MISTER MOONEY MEETING
New Head of School details career, vision for Wyoming Seminary

With the exception of rainy days, I enjoy a walk around campus with a friend every day after eating lunch in the dining hall. It’s a nice way to get fresh air, step away from work for a bit and chat with fellow walking coworkers.
As of May 15, there’s been a new constant on our walk –a sweet, rambunctious Labrador retriever named Sam.
Sam sits comfortably perched on couch cushions with his head resting on his paws, staring out the big front window of the Head of School home on North Maple Avenue.
Sam looks content, happy and has claimed Sem as his new home. In many ways, this adorable dog has become the mascot of a new era for the Wyoming Seminary community. His owners – Marty Mooney, Head of School, and his wife, Dani – are also settled in and enjoying a new beginning in the Wyoming Valley.
The Mooneys have embraced the Sem community as their new extended family and just as important, they are opening themselves up to all that our local area has to offer. From supporting local businesses and restaurants to attending events like the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival, the Mooneys are all in when it comes to making this their home.

Mr. Mooney is rebuilding Sem’s foundation of academic excellence and restoring stability among the entire Sem community, while the additions of Barb Bolich, Director of Athletics; Cheryl Connolly, Director of Advancement; and Keith Fischer, Director of Enrollment Management; provide exceptional balance of leadership in administrative roles.
Under Mr. Mooney’s guidance, a fresh and exciting chapter has begun at Wyoming Seminary for students, faculty, staff, alumni and families.
May this be the year of solid beginnings and positive change for all of us. May we grow as individuals, classmates, colleagues, teammates, castmates and friends.
As for Sam, may his position on the couch remain comfy and may he continue to provide a little bit of happiness for anyone who passes through Sem’s Back Campus for many years to come.

Changing the game: Athletic training receives major upgrades
By Matt Bufano
Having worked at Wyoming Seminary for 25 years, including the last 19 as a full-time employee, Lisa Mozeleski has been on staff during one of Sem’s most transformative periods ever for athletics.
“We have added a lot of teams and a lot of athletes,” said Mozeleski, Director of Athletic Training Services.
The addition of high-level, contact sports, such as lacrosse, girls wrestling and for a time girls ice hockey, as well as boys wrestling evolving into a national powerhouse, changed the athletic program.
Those elements and the addition of concussion management, along with the passing of time, also changed Sem’s athletic training needs.
The athletic training working space and offices were relocated, renovated and opened in a span of a few months at the Carpenter Athletic Center.
Square footage has doubled.
A private office was created to serve as a hub for necessary documentation work. A new hydrotherapy area was installed to elevate rehabilitation services.

Student-athletes will benefit the most from these and other upgrades, as will the gracious team of Mozeleski and athletic trainer Katie Strohl.
“Sem always embraced and supported athletic training,” said Mozeleski, mother of EVELYN ‘20 and ANNA MOZELESKI ‘22. “The school has always valued the safety of the student-athletes.”

Led by JANET MURRAY ‘76, Physical Plant Manager, and her dedicated staff, facilities at both divisions received renovations this past summer.
The renovations varied from major projects to simple upkeep to help freshen up spaces before welcoming back our students, faculty and staff for the 2023-2024 school year.
“The Summer of 2023 presented a lot of challenges for the maintenance teams both at the Upper and Lower Schools,” Murray said. “With juggling their time in support of the Summer programs as well as taking on multiple summer renovations, the maintenance teams worked diligently to meet tight deadlines so that faculty housing, school buildings, athletic facilities and grounds were ready for the start of the new school year.”
The Athletic Training room in the Carpenter Athletic Center got a major makeover, while across the street at Nesbitt Hall, new windows were installed as well as new flooring on the first-floor hallways. Behind Carpenter Athletic Center, the Chuck Lull Tennis Courts were repaired ahead of the girls fall season. A new roof was also installed on the entrance of Carpenter Athletic Center.
Swetland Hall dormitory received new flooring in the
first-floor hallways and the third floor, as well as painting and updated furniture on the third floor.
Many dorm faculty moved into fresh, bright and modern homes and apartments across the campus.
The Lower School first-floor hallways were noticeably brighter on the first day of classes on August 28 thanks to an upgraded lighting system. Many offices and classrooms were also painted and upgrades were completed on the Fire Protection Panels.
“A goal this summer was to make the buildings shine and address the overall appearances of our dormitory rooms and hallways, classrooms, faculty housing and update them with new flooring, bathrooms fixtures, lighting and painting,” Murray added. “Because of the warm and rainy weather, the grounds crew were constantly cutting grass, weeding flower beds and pruning bushes to keep the campus looking beautiful. I’m extremely proud of my entire team for their perseverance and teamwork as they addressed so many projects this summer in a short amount of time.”

KINDNESS IS WHAT TURNS A COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT CULTURES, DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD, INTO A COMMUNITY
Head of School Martin Mooney, with his wife, Dani, and dog, Sam.
TRADITION O Reimagined
Mooney seeks to unite Sem’s past, present
By Matt Bufano
Like any institution, Wyoming Seminary has rules. The 2023-24 Wyoming Seminary Upper School Handbook contains 33 pages of guidelines, policies and expectations critical to ensuring the school functions as it should.
Among them, Martin J. “Marty” Mooney chose to focus on one universally applicable rule in his first schoolwide address of the new academic year.
“Kindness,” he said, “is my No. 1 rule.”
Installed in May as Wyoming Seminary Head of School, Mooney shared his message of kindness on Aug. 28 in front of a standingroom-only crowd at convocation. In addition to the hundreds of students and adults seated at the Kirby Center for Creative Arts, the assembly was streamed by many more on YouTube.
“Kindness is what turns a collection of different people from different cultures, different parts of the world, into a community,” Mooney said. “When you are an adolescent, unfortunately, kindness is sometimes mistaken for weakness. Also, unfortunately, too many people never grow out of that mistaken notion.”
Mooney is doing his part to reverse that notion by setting an example at Sem, where he holds a position that’s had only 14 predecessors in 180 years.
While some may view Wyoming Seminary’s 19th-century roots as ancient history, Mooney embraces them and believes Sem’s past has a great influence on its present.
“For Wyoming Seminary’s founders, education was meaningless if not applied to the betterment of the community, of the country,” Mooney said. “I believe this sensibility is still very much in the DNA of Wyoming Seminary. Much has changed since the school was founded, but the value of what we do here still resides in our belief, our practices, our teaching and our ability to turn out stu-
dents eager and prepared to solve the problems not of 1844, but of 2044 and beyond.”
A graduate of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and Middlebury College in Vermont, Mooney began his career in the Keystone State in 1992 at The Hill School in Pottstown.
“That was my first job in education,” Mooney said. “My wife, Dani, and I lived there after we got married and our first two children were born in Pottstown Hospital.”
The next 30 years saw the Mooneys’ career in education take off. Most notably, Marty spent 20 years in New Jersey at the Peddie School, where he and Dani held various positions.
Dani eventually changed careers and worked at the American Red Cross and also obtained a master’s degree in public health from Rutgers University.
Dani soon found herself working with patients at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs whose complex health and social needs, especially in preventative care, helped her not only do important work but build a unique skill set that came in handy at the family’s next stop.
In 2017, Marty was appointed Head of School at Bridgton Academy in Maine, “an amazing community with a unique mission,” he said, as its student body is exclusively postgraduate males. Marty’s leadership and Dani’s expertise proved key in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I was called on to combine my school and public health experience during the pandemic as the Director of Pandemic Response at Bridgton Academy,” Dani said. “Having extensive knowledge of school life in addition to familiarity with public health concepts put me in position to navigate the challenges of keeping a school open while creating safe environments for staf f and students.”
As the urgency of the pandemic began to recede in spring 2022, the Mooneys discussed leaving Bridgton Academy, but only for the perfect fit.

The Mooneys discovered their hearts were at Sem and that if Marty were offered Head of School, they would accept.
“I’ll never forget going through the interview process here at Sem, during which two things became abundantly clear,” Marty said. “No. 1, people were honest and forthright about both the strengths of the school, as well as the work that needed to be done. There was not a lot of sugarcoating. Dani and I really liked the candor. No. 2, there was a passionate dedication to the school that ran through every single conversation we had.”
Now, the work has begun.
Priorities in year one include a self-study for Sem’s Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools accreditation and creating a long-range strategic plan.
Marty is also getting to know the community and has already made key hires of men and women who now lead the advancement, athletic and enrollment departments.
“What I value in members of the faculty and staff is

obviously expertise in their field, work ethic, teamwork, integrity, commitment to the mission and values of the school,” Marty said. “One piece that I also value in colleagues is one that I try to model: I take the work seriously and I take representing the school seriously, but I try not to take myself too seriously.”
As far as what comes next, Marty again reflected on Sem’s founding principles and the task of preparing students for the active duties of life.
“Our world is facing existential challenges,” Marty said. “My vision is to prepare our students — even better than we do now — to become problem solvers and to approach significant challenges with the tools not only of math, science, communication and research, but through a more hands-on experience with emergent technologies, engineering, business and finance, cross-cultural proficiency, and maybe most importantly, their imagination.
“We can no longer educate our students solely within the traditional model of academic departments. And this is not just ‘my vision’ — this mindset has been part of Wyoming Seminary since its opening days.” n
Q&A
WITH MARTY MOONEY
Q: Since your arrival to the Wyoming Valley in May, what restaurants and stores have become a favorite for you and Dani?
We’ve been to Rikasa a couple of times, Kevin’s, the Canning House and Julie’s Cozy Cafe across the river. Going out for breakfast on the weekends is one of my favorite things in life. There’s also a Wegmans in Wilkes-Barre and that’s a store you don’t have way up north. We’ve been there a few times for sure.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
I have a few. During the lockdown, I started to paint watercolors and it has become an incredible outlet for me. I also like to ski and bike, camping, fishing and backpacking. We have a lot of gear in the garage.
Q: What are your favorite sports teams?
Not going to be popular in the Valley, but I’ve always been a New York Giants and Mets fan, as well as following the Islanders in hockey.
Q: What’s it like moving from the quietness of Maine to a busier area of the Wyoming Valley?
Dani and I are getting used to how quickly we can get places. There were a lot of car rides for us that took an hour, where, here, it’s only a few minutes to Target.
Q: What’s your favorite streaming series?
Hard to pick a favorite. For a while, I watched so many detective or crime dramas from the UK, like “Luther,” “Wallander” and “The Fall.” Dani is a big fan of “Ted Lasso” and we are both always in on “The Mandalorian” and many of the other Disney/Marvel shows.
Q: Tell us about your kids!
Oldest is Katherine, 28, and Megan is 27. They both live across the river from Boston in Somerville and Watertown. Kath graduated from Wheaton College (Massachusetts) and is a broadcast engineer for TV25 in Boston. Megan is a chef. She graduated from Tufts in 2018 and just got married this summer in Maine, about three weeks after we moved down here to Sem. It was a fairly busy May and June. Our youngest, Harry, graduated from Skidmore in 2021 and has been living and working in Brooklyn, New York. He is the drummer for a jam band called Bloom.
Q: How about your dog, Sam? He claimed his spot right in your front window. How is he adjusting to “city life?”
Kathy Hanlon would describe Sam as “spirited.” We got him from the Maine Lab Rescue in 2018, so he absolutely loves the snow and the cold weather. Nothing made this dog happier than to settle himself into a snowpile in single-digit temperatures. Recently we learned that he is more German Shepherd than Lab, which explains why he’s got so much energy. Living in a rural area, at a smaller school, he has had a few adjustments to make, but he is getting used to it. Both he and the Mooneys are very happy in the Valley.
Blue Knights: The next generation
Former standout student-athletes rejoin Sem as coaches
By Matt Bufano

MARINA BARNAK ‘15 coaches her Wyoming Seminary junior high field hockey team.
Field hockey is among the most difficult sports for beginners. The game moves fast. The rules are complex. And the development of skills, such as dribbling, passing, shooting and defending, takes a lifetime to master.
“I had a lot of questions about the sport,” said INESSA TURAYEV ‘28
Turayev and RACHEL SNYDER ‘28 were among the first-year players on Wyoming Seminary’s junior high field hockey team in 2022.
“I came in last year, not really being sure that I wanted to play field hockey,” Snyder recalled.
Then, they met the coach, MARINA BARNAK ‘15, and the rest is history.
the home turf really well as a player and coach.”
Barnak played on Sem’s 2013 PIAA Class 2A state champion team, coached by the legendary and recently retired Karen Klassner.
“ I love the community. I think we’ve built great camaraderie and a great culture around the sports teams here“
Barnak is one of several recent Sem graduates who have returned to the familiar sidelines where they once played. Now, as coaches, they share their passion and knowledge with the next generation of Blue Knights.
“She basically made me fall in love with the sport,” Snyder said of Barnak. “I’m really grateful to have her as a coach. It’s cool to know that I’m being coached by a state champion … who knows
JULIA GABRIEL '18
Barnak had never thought of herself as a coach, but upon hearing in summer 2022 that the team needed one, she stepped up and almost immediately received congratulations and advice from Klassner.
“We had a great mix of girls who’d been playing since they were old enough to hold a stick in their hand, as well as girls who had never picked up a stick in their life,” Barnak said. “We made
great progress on all levels throughout the year.”
The Blue Knights won four games in 2022, defeating Delaware Valley, Dallas, Lackawanna Trail and Wilkes-Barre Area.
By the time Turayev and Snyder reported for the 2023 preseason, Barnak said, the two “looked like pros.”
“She found her rhythm and I found mine,” Turayev said. “I feel like as I progressed as a player, she grew as a coach.”
While Barnak makes her mark at the Lower School, others, like LUKE JOHNS ‘21, roam the Upper School.
A former all-conference soccer standout who originally planned to continue his career at King’s College, Johns suffered a career-ending medial collateral ligament (MCL) tear in September 2022.
He joined the Sem boys soccer staff in 2023 as a varsity assistant and junior varsity head coach.
“I’m happy with the decision I made. I actually like coaching more than playing,” Johns said. “I just feel like over the past 15 years I’ve been playing soccer, I picked up a bunch of stuff from all the coaches I’ve had over the years. The fact I’m giving what I’ve learned to these younger kids — to help them succeed on and off the field — makes me happy.”
Johns and the JV Blue Knights earned their first win in a 3-2 victory over Valley View.
“It was great because all the kids were so happy,” Johns said. “They cheered like they won the World Cup. It was a very exciting moment.”
The 2023-24 school year is JULIA GABRIEL’S ‘18 second as an assistant coach for girls soccer and girls basketball.
“I love the community,” Gabriel said. “I think we’ve built great camaraderie and a great culture around the sports teams here, so it was great to jump back into the swing of things and help foster the environment we have.”
Gabriel was also elevated for the upcoming season to head coach of varsity girls lacrosse. She was an assistant coach last season.
After a few seasons falling short of the District 2 championship, Gabriel is tasked with returning Sem girls lacrosse to the top of the league.
She won four district titles at Sem before playing at Lebanon Valley College.

“It’s so exciting, I think, being at the helm and also having Catie Kersey, Rachel Bartron and Randy Granger back as our assistant coaches,” Gabriel said. “They were my coaches when I was here. They’re going to bring a lot of knowledge and make sure we’re working hard to try and get back to the district championship and win it all.”
While Gabriel enjoyed a long playing career at Sem, JULIA BAUR ‘16 and STAN ZANESKI ‘17 — transfers from Lake-Lehman and Wyoming Valley West, respectively — attended Sem for only one year.
But that year, and their transformative success in the swimming pool, changed their lives.
Baur and Zaneski are assistant varsity swimming coaches on PHIL MERCATILI’S ‘03 staff.
“I love Phil,” Zaneski said. “He’s been the building block of my entire career as a swimmer.”
Zaneski’s focus in the pool while at Sem shifted entirely to sprinting events, rather than distance, helping him break records and win four District 2 gold medals and three PIAA state medals.
Baur was part of a 400-yard freestyle relay team that broke a 22-year pool record at the Ray Wills Invitational and won gold at districts.
Zaneski and Baur count Mercatili as a main inspiration in their coaching career, saying his hunger for more information and success is infectious.
“Phil knows what he’s talking about,” Baur said. “He’s very informative. He just knows his stuff.”
The 2023-24 season will be Zaneski’s second and Baur’s fourth as an assistant coach.
“I’ve been watching videos at night, doing research, going through video programs that Phil sent us, I’m reading up every night,” Zaneski said. “I’m just trying to give (the student-athletes) the best possible experience I can.”

ALUMNI PROFILE
Messersmith '99 traces personal success back to Sem
By Jill Snowdon
MIKE MESSERSMITH ‘99 traveled across the world and lived throughout the country, building an incredible career that has stretched from an elementary school classroom to the United States Navy, to an entrepreneurial business opportunity that started with three people and now has more than 100 employees.
THE SEM EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST I’VE HAD IN MY CAREER “ “

Messersmith’s academic and career journey is no doubt a successful one and includes earning a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, a master’s from Old Dominion University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
It’s a trip home to Northeastern Pennsylvania, however, that always serves as a reminder to Messersmith that he is indeed making an impact in business and in the health and wellness of people.
He is also making a difference to the planet with his company, Oatly, North America.
“You know you are actually creating impact when coffee shops in Luzerne are carrying oat milk — and that’s where my ambition is,” Messersmith said. “I know that we are making incredible progress when the grocery stores my parents shop at are carrying oat milk products. The first coffee shops we were bringing the product to were in Manhattan and Brooklyn. But the most important part about products like this — and if you are really seeking to change things — it’s not just for one group who happen to live in a cool part of Brooklyn.”
Messersmith has been the president of Oatly, North America, since 2017. Oatly makes vegan, plant-based food and beverage products made of oats. The company was originally founded in Sweden and Messersmith took a chance to introduce the products in the United States.
“I was working with companies, more entrepreneurial companies, and I got connected with Oatly, which had experienced some success and growth in Sweden but was looking to bring the business and the idea of oat milk to the United States,” Messersmith said. “For me, I certainly saw the business opportunity and I thought the product was excellent, but I like that it connected to a larger idea and this was satisfied by engineering and very scientific-based facts that we have to change the way we are eating and drinking. There just isn’t enough water in the land for us to keep doing it the way we are 30 years from now. The planet won’t support it.”
After graduating from Sem in 1999, Messersmith went to Duke University on a Navy ROTC scholarship. He was a history and elementary education major at Duke and served as a student teacher for third grade during his senior year. Teaching was a role he credits for helping him when he worked in the Navy as an officer and nuclear engineering management on aircraft carriers.
“I feel I used so many aspects of the classroom management and learning style adaptation in the Navy when I was on these big warships, doing really intense, technical jobs, but it’s still just people and it’s how you communicate, learn, and organize,” Messersmith said.
Messersmith currently lives in Manhattan with his wife, but he frequently visits his parents who live in Dallas, Pennsylvania. On a trip to the area last spring, he made a visit to Wyoming Seminary where he spoke at a student assembly. He talked about his academic opportunities, his career path and the growth of Oatly. Messersmith was impressed with the progression of academics and course offerings that are available, including the Academic Concentrations. And, he was quick to point out that Sem helped him prepare for all the academic and career challenges and achievements he experienced throughout the years.
“The Sem experience is the best I’ve had in my entire career,” Messersmith said. “Sem does a great job of giving you this foundation, and you don’t even realize it sometimes when you are in it. It was, in many ways, one of the most representative environments, diverse environments that I have ever been a part of.”
Even with all his success, Messersmith remains grounded, humble and easygoing. He laughs when he recalls telling his parents he was getting a job at Oatly and they thought he was going to work for an oatmeal company.

Left: Messersmith today and in 1999 during his time at Sem. Below: KATE SORETH '26 fills her cup with Oatly ice cream in the Sem dining hall.
Messersmith is excited when he visits home and sees a carton of Oatly in his parents’ refrigerator. He is equally excited that oat milk itself has come a long way since 2017.
“I always felt in the beginning it was a peer-to-peer, wordof-mouth kind of thing. It is really gratifying when I hear people tell me about having oat milk for the first time in a coffee shop in Chicago five years ago and I’m like ‘Yeah, I know that shop,’” Messersmith said. “That was the idea. We tried to do it like that. And now when I stand in a line at Starbucks and I hear people in line ordering an oat milk pumpkin spiced latte, I think, ‘Wow, we have really come a long way in five years.’”

RETIRED FACULTY
JEANNETTE HALLl GARBER, 95, of Kalamazoo, Mich., passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
Born Feb. 17, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., Jeannette was the daughter of the late Dr. Albert and Reba Hall. She earned her bachelor's degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., majoring in English. Her first job out of college was working for the Good Teeth Council for Children as a puppeteer, traveling around the country giving puppet shows to children about dental hygiene. She then moved to New York City, where she met and married Herbert Garber, who was a classical musician. Jeannette and Herbert settled in Wilkes-Barre in 1965 when Herbert joined the music faculty of Wilkes University, then Wilkes College. Jeannette taught part-time at Wilkes College and at Misericordia College in elementary education before joining the faculty of Wyoming Seminary Day School in Kingston, where she taught the third Grade for 20 years.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon, Kalamazoo, Mich.; and Laura, Collingswood, N.J.; granddaughters, Shelby and Darci; and nieces and nephews.

REBEKAH MALKEMES ‘48 died peacefully at home in Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, two weeks shy of her 92nd birthday. Her daughter, Janet Malkemes ‘73 and her son Robert Malkemes ‘76, reside in the Charlotte area where Rebekah spent her last two and a half years.
Rebekah graduated from Wyoming Seminary, Vassar College and Scranton University. She taught mathematics at Wyoming Seminary from the mid-sixties until the mid-eighties where her colleagues and students became good friends.
Rebekah was an active member of the Wyoming Valley community, serving on many boards including the West Pittston Cemetery Board and as Senior Warden of Trinity Episcopal Church. She loved being a life-long resident of West Pittston, with breaks to study, raise her family and travel extensively.

SUSAN TRYNOSKI passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family. Born in Presque Isle, Me., she was the daughter of the late Fred Derosier and Cecile Martin Derosier.
A 1964 graduate of Presque Isle High School, Susan was also a 1968 graduate of the University of Maine, Orono, with a B.S. degree in education. She received her master's of education degree from Bloomsburg University in 1981, as a reading specialist. Susan began her teaching career in Presque Isle, then in Rome, N.Y., West Nanticoke, Mocanaqua, and Berwick. In 1986 she began teaching at Wyoming Seminary Lower School, where she taught for the next 25 years. While there she was awarded the prestigious Frances and Louis Maslow Award for excellence in teaching.
She was an avid reader and shared her love of books with her students, family and friends alike. She was also a long-time bridge player and, in her retirement, loved to travel.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Sally Derosier. She is survived by her son, Jonathan Trynoski, Kempton, Pa.; daughter, Amy, Trynoski, Sebastopol, Calif.; and her beloved fiancé, Jay H. May, Dallas, and his family. She also is survived by siblings: Patricia Svitenko, Elizabeth (Robert) Palitto, Margie (James) Smart, Jim Derosier, Mary Derosier; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

MESSAGE
FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Grateful for donor support of Sem's mission A

In March of 1944, a young woman named Barbara Matz from Lewisburg, who was graduating that year from Wyoming Seminary, reflected on her time at the school in the pages of the Opinator. With a sense of hope and pride as the school celebrated its centennial, balanced against the shadow the War had cast during her time as a student, she ended her piece with this passage:
“Wyoming Seminary is not its buildings, its presidents, its faculty, its students, its standards, and yet it is all of these. I look back upon the tradition of its life, and feel that it is good. The very buildings speak. You have but to tune your ear to these old walls to hear a tale of human courage and integrity which will thrill you and make you proud of your right to become a part of it.”
The “tale of human courage and integrity” continues to resonate here in Kingston. As we reflect on the past few years, we are reminded of the challenges our school community has faced and the incredible resilience we have witnessed. Despite the challenges of Covid and transitions of leadership, Wyoming Seminary has remained steadfast in its commitment to providing an exceptional education to our students and inspiring them to strive for the true, the beautiful, and the good.
The support of our donors, especially during these uncertain times, has allowed us to achieve our mission and to provide a healthy, stable, and nurturing environment for our students. Your investment in our facilities, our programs, and our people makes a difference in this community, and we are grateful.
On behalf of everyone at Wyoming Seminary, I want to thank you for your unwavering support. I invite you to read our annual report, which provides more details on the partnership between Sem and all of our supporters. Together, we will ensure that our students receive the education they deserve and a Sem experience that has been life-changing for the generations that have come before. I share in the appreciation expressed by the Opinator writer above, and like her I too, am “proud to become part of it.”
Martin J. Mooney Head of School

The Westlake Society
1942
The Westlake Society recognizes those alumni and friends of Wyoming Seminary who have indicated that they have made provisions for a gift to the School in their estate plans, or through membership in The Living Endowment Society. This recognition society was previously known as The Planned Giving Honor Roll, but was renamed in memory of Emory H. Westlake Class of 1896 in recognition of and with appreciation of his generous bequest to the School in 1996 at the time of the 150th Anniversary Campaign. Mr. Westlake creatively planned his estate in order to maximize his giving to those charities most important to him. Within a few months of the 100th anniversary of his graduation, Mr. Westlake’s bequest created the Westlake Scholarship Endowment Fund at Wyoming Seminary. The School feels his wise use of charitable and estate gift planning is an example for others to emulate.
In addition to the names that follow, there are others who have included Wyoming Seminary in their estate plans, but at their request, their names are not listed.
