MAYOR’S MESSAGE There are lots of great things happening in Wyndham over the next month. Now that Summer is well and truly upon us, Wyndham City has started upgrades on 45 local parks throughout our municipality. You’ll start to see a lot of changes at your local parks, including more trees and seating as part of the $1.3 million project. You can read more about these important upgrades and other ways Council is investing in our local infrastructure on pages 6 and 7 of Wyndham News. This month we will also have a very exciting visitor to Wyndham. The Queen’s Baton Relay will pass through our magnificent City, in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Local residents have been selected to carry the baton through Wyndham, so make sure you come along to witness this unique and exciting event on 13 February, 2018. This month will also mark the arrival of the Chinese Year of the Dog. The Point Cook Lunar New Year Festival will return and is a great opportunity to mark this time of year that is so important to many Wyndham residents. Check out more info on page 10. THE future OF HOUSING
More than 250 residents have had their say on a strategy that will guide the future of housing development in Wyndham. The Wyndham Housing and Neighbourhood Character Strategy, which creates new zones for housing development and provides a 20-year plan to manage growth, will now be updated to reflect the views of the community. The Strategy proposes the introduction of three new residential zones as a way of managing growth and to ensure that development occurs in appropriate locations and provides guidance on keeping housing density at a suitable level. These zones also outline where development should not occur. Wyndham residents made more than 250 submissions on the Strategy, which will now be updated to reflect this feedback. A new version of the strategy will be prepared and presented to a Council meeting in mid-2018. www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/housing

The Pop Up Drive Thru Recycling Day is making a comeback, with residents able to drop off a range of items that are collecting dust around the home. Clothing, shoes, fashion accessories, towels, sheets, any electronic items with a cord, whitegoods, bicycles, furniture and homewares are among the items that can be dropped off.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is coming to Wyndham! The NDIS is a new way of providing community inclusion and individualised support for people with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers. This support is available for people who are aged under 65 years.
Asbestos, chemicals, biological waste, sharps, fluorescent tubes, and smoke detectors are not accepted.
It is important to understand how you can access support from the NDIS. NDIS Information Sessions, forums and events will be available in Wyndham and across the Western metropolitan region.
A maximum of 15 items per household will be collected. This is a free event for Wyndham residents.
TWO INFORMATION SESSIONS WILL BE HELD IN WYNDHAM IN THE COMING WEEKS, ON 20 FEBRUARY AND 1 MARCH AT THE WERRIBEE RACING CLUB.

BUILDING A BETTER Wyndham TRUGANINA INTEGRATED FAMILY LEARNING CENTRE A brand new centre will be built at Mainview Boulevard in Truganina. With two new kinder rooms, consulting rooms and a community room, there is no doubt this community hub will be welcomed by the growing community in Truganina. The new centre will also feature maternal and child health services. Expected date of completion: September 2018
SOLDIERS RESERVE PAVILION Fresh new changerooms will soon be a feature at Soldiers Reserve in Werribee. Two new changerooms will bring the pavilion into the 21st century, servicing both men and women at the club. Expected date of completion: March 2018.

These two streets in Little River have been given a new lease on life. Rothwell Street has been reconstructed, while Flinders Street has been refreshed with an upgrade. Works are now complete.

Improved entry, gardens, picnic amenities, more trees and seating, pathways and fences are just some of the features of this $1.3 million project. TALLIVER TERRACE PARK The construction of the $3.5 million Talliver Terrace Park is now complete! The 1.3 hectare park in Truganina is decked out with shelter, barbeque amenities, a netball space and basketball courts. It also features an exciting playground for the little ones. A 90 metre bridge over Skeleton Creek also connects people on the opposite side of the creek to the park.

Chaffey Ward’s Cr Walter Villagonzalo focuses on diversifying and growing Wyndham’s economy.
Through this portfolio Cr Shaw aims to make Wyndham a better place for all residents, regardless of their age, gender, cultural background or socio-economic status.
This portfolio places a spotlight on employment, industry attraction and business development, including the enabling of business start-ups.
Cr Shaw said it had been a busy 12 months for her portfolio.
“More and more Wyndham is becoming an attractive place for businesses to call home,” Cr Villagonzalo said.
“One of the main projects we’ve been working on is the development of the Wyndham Family Friendly Charter – a first of its kind for Local Government,” Cr Shaw said. “This document is being developed in consultation with members of our community, outlining our vision for what being a Family Friendly City actually means.” Recently Cr Shaw helped launch Wyndham’s I Love Kinder campaign, urging the Federal Government to commit to funding their fair share of funding to kindergarten beyond 2018.

I speak two languages, as well as Pidgin English. I remember I once had a client who was agitated and restless due to unsettling baby and feeding issues. I could use my Pidgin English to communicate with her and calm her down. She went home happy, feeling that I understood her problem.
A community-led pop up park will be popping up in Point Cook this month. The brainchild of two Point Cook residents in 2017, wanting to bring people together while boosting the local economy, the dream is coming to fruition. Now, with support from local volunteers, businesses and other stakeholders, the pop up park is becoming a reality.

The regional level skate park will officially open with a bunch of fun competitions. Keen skaters can participate in four different competitions (12 and under, 16 and under, and male and female opens). Those who are a bit handy on a BMX can put their skills to the test in either the 14 and under or 15 and over competitions. If the scooter is your choice of wheels, the 14 and under or 15 and under comp is the place you need to be. The park also features playgrounds, exercise zones, grass, gardens, trees, and sheltered and barbecue areas.

CELEBRATE ALL THINGS MULTICULTURAL AND CELEBRATE
THE YEAR OF THE DOG 24 FEBRUARY, 2018 FROM NOON UNTIL 9.30PM.
Held at the Point Cook Town Centre, there will be all day live performances from more than 35 different groups, including Tai Chi, Taekwondo, hip-hop and Bollywood. Traditional dances from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines will also be headline acts, along with a cultural fashion parade. Other highlights include the decorative costume display, face painting, jumping castles, lantern making, Chinese calligraphy and more.
Werribee City Centre was transformed into a festive wonderland in December, with a Christmas Tree at Station Place at the heart of the City’s community celebrations. Santa and his little helpers also dropped by every Saturday so the kids could deliver their wish list in person.
