As you know we have been working hard on the feasibility study for our exciting plans to redevelop and reinvigorate the Wyeside. Our core staff team have been working with business consultants, design specialists and architects to develop plans for this unique and exciting redevelopment. These plans will not only ensure our arts centre’s sustainability and growth but also extend and deepen the activity for you, our valued supporters.

We have identified innovative ways to improve our facilities, including the development of two smaller cinema spaces from the Castle Cinema, the expansion of our public spaces, the introduction of better access throughout the building, the development of our catering and bar facilities, and the provision for a new and efficient heating system. In addition to this the plans have identified ways to improve Wyeside’s external access, including increasing customer safety by moving the main entrance to the centre of the building. This is an ambitious plan that will not only benefit Wyeside and Builth, but all of Mid Wales!

The feasibility study is being funded by LEADER through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. The project is also being funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

Design: De Matos Ryan Architects

The first step of this journey is almost over as we move forward towards gaining support to enable us to develop detailed designs and secure planning permission. If you would like to know any further information about how you can support us, please do get in touch.

We would love to invite you to Wyeside on Monday January 14 at 7pm, where we will reveal our final feasibility plans to the public.

Smart, witty, a talented lyricist and an electrifying live performer, it’s no surprise she’s toured in support of Billy Bragg, worked for ten years as a self-sustaining DIY artist with virtually no mainstream media coverage and yet when she announced a Kickstarter campaign to record her first full studio album ‘Queer As Folk’ she reached the £10,000 target in twenty-four hours! She has quietly become one of the most respected songwriters working in the UK today. She is a frequent guest on BBC Radio 4’s the Now Show, has appeared on Channel 4’s Random Acts and has been featured in The Guardian, Diva Magazine and The Independent On Sunday’s 2013 Pink List of influential LGBT figures.

LA TRAVIATA by Giuseppe Verdi Opera in three acts Sung in Italian (with Subtitles) LIVE Wed 30 January: 6.45pm £17 Full (£15 Concession) Richard Eyre’s beautiful production provides the perfect setting for Verdi’s opera about a courtesan who sacrifices all for love. From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heartbreaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas. Alfredo falls in love with the courtesan Violetta, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s wealth of melodies includes the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing. Richard Eyre’s production brings out all the emotional colour, from the giddy discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

ACCESS Wyeside offers lift access to all areas, as well as an accessible toilet. Reserved disabled parking is available on our forecourt, and wheelchair spaces are available in both auditoriums. All disabled seating is allocated on a first-come first-serve basis as these facilities are limited due to the restricted nature of our Grade 2 listed building. To guarantee admittance we strongly recommend booking in advance via our Box Office on 01982 552555. Unfortunately wheelchair spaces are not bookable online at this time. Guide dogs are welcome.

REFUNDS & EXCHANGES If you’ve bought tickets for a Wyeside event but find you can’t make it, we can exchange them for an alternative date or refund the value (less a £2 admin fee) of the ticket via a credit note – but only if contacted at least 5 days before the event.

HOW TO FIND US Wyeside stands prominently on the end of Builth Wells’ famous Wye river bridge, opposite the Llewellyn mural. The centre is only 100 metres walk from the Groe public car park, which is free from 6pm. When you leave the car park, turn left, walk past the Builth bull statue and Wyeside is facing you at the top of the rise.
