Inside WYDOT’s Strategic Plan
By Strategic Planning Strategic Planning is thrilled to announce that the WYDOT 2025-2027 Strategic Plan is officially live! This is more than just an annual document, it is our road map for the next three years, a collective blueprint for achieving our Vision of “Excellence in transportation” across Wyoming. If you would like to see the detailed goals that our agency will be pursuing, simply navigate to our public-facing website: Home > Administration > WYDOT Strategic Plan.
What is Strategic Planning, really?
The word “strategic” gets thrown around a lot these days, but at its heart, it’s about being intentional when you set out to achieve a goal. Think about your daily commute to work. The goal is getting to work on time, right? But taking the same route every single day doesn’t always accomplish that goal. Sometimes traffic gets in the way. Sometimes it’s weather, and sometimes you realize you’re almost out of gas and have to make a pit stop. If you’re the kind of person who checks the weather, looks at an app for traffic updates, or always makes sure your car has a full tank of gas, then congratulations, you are strategically plan-
ning every single day. You are proactively maneuvering around or busting through barriers. This level of intentional thinking is exactly what we need for our agency’s future.
Our direction: the agency focus
Our Mission is to “Provide a safe and effective transportation system”, and our Vision is “Excellence in transportation.” With such an important mission comes many roadblocks, such as staffing shortages and funding needs. That’s why our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan was created with three intentional parts. Agency Focuses, Strategic Objectives and Division Strategies Think of the WYDOT Strategic Plan as a representation of the WYDOT triangle (see graphic above). Our Agency Focuses are the pinnacle, Strategic Objectives are the body and the Division Strategies to achieve these two are the solid foundation. Agency Focuses: The overall impacts we want to achieve • Recognize, retain, recruit (building a resilient workforce) • Secure additional funding (ensuring the resources we need) Strategic Planning continued on page 3
