Boarding Booklet
Boarding Booklet
This is a very warm welcome to boarding at Trinity School, your new home during your stay!
Your new houseparents are Miss. Connelly, Mr. Leveridge, Mr. Ernouf, and Ms. Fischer, and we cannot wait to meet you. Our lives revolve around boarding because, like all residential boarding staff, we live here: Miss Connelly and Mr. Ernouf at the ends of the girls’ corridors and Mr. Leveridge and Ms. Fischer at the ends of the boys’ corridors. Together, we have one main aim: to ensure that you are happy, safe, and achieving your best.
There will be a lot for you to get used to as you settle into the routine of boarding and school life. This booklet is intended to answer some of your initial questions. However, boarding life is not only ruled by booklets; we are here to answer questions, have a chat about how your day went, or talk about any concerns you may have. You will always find either a member of staff or an experienced boarder to talk to.
This is how we see ourselves: a family who sticks together, shares ups and downs, and cares for each other. You will often hear us using the words ‘we’ and ‘us,’ and, yes, we strongly believe in the importance of community. Therefore, we invite you to become a member of our family too, and we hope that your time with us will be unforgettable.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
We are one big boarding family with two boarding houses:
Prep School to Year 11
Houseparents:
Ms Fisher and Mr Ernouf
Sixth Form/ A-Level: Year 12 and Year 13
Houseparents: Miss Connelly and Mr Leveridge
This means that most boarders who are under the age of 16 will be in Chapel House, and many of those will be here to take GCSE examinations.
Miss Wimsett also lives on site and supports both houses.
Teignmouth, located in the picturesque county of Devon, is the charming seaside town that hosts our school Known for its stunning coastal scenery, Teignmouth offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and vibrant community life.
Nestled between the River Teign and the open sea, Teignmouth boasts beautiful sandy beaches, a historic pier, and a bustling harbor. The town’s scenic promenades, lush parks, and charming Georgian architecture provide a delightful backdrop for both relaxation and adventure.
Teignmouth’s welcoming atmosphere and friendly locals make it a lovely place to live The town is rich in cultural events, from lively music festivals to art exhibitions, and offers a variety of outdoor activities such as sailing, hiking, and cycling Its proximity to the South Devon countryside and the Dartmoor National Park adds to the appeal, providing endless opportunities for exploration and enjoyment.
Many boarders visit the town centre at the weekend On Saturdays, our older boarders also like to take the train to Exeter. This train journey costs between £2 and £4 and takes around 30 minutes. Exeter is beautiful and has everything you could wish for: two multi-screen cinemas, many large and small shops, a cathedral, a river to sit next to and chill, bike hire etc
With its combination of natural beauty, recreational activities, and a warm community spirit, Teignmouth is not just a wonderful place to visit but an idyllic place to call home during your time at Trinity School

Feeling homesick? Talk to us or the other boarders; you are not alone!

Chapel House is thoughtfully divided into two corridors: one for girls and one for boys Typically, rooms accommodate two boarders each, but if there are vacancies, you may have the privilege of a single room. To foster interaction between different nationalities and enhance English language skills, we ensure that roommates do not share the same mother tongue Each room is equipped with its own washbasin, while each corridor features showers, toilets, and a common room complete with a kettle, microwave, fridge, sink, sofas, and a smart TV. Mugs, plates, and cutlery are all provided for your convenience
In the evenings, boarders study in classrooms with computer access, though many choose to use their own laptops Additionally, there are mixed common rooms available for all boarders, offering further opportunities for socialising Boarders also enjoy access to extensive school grounds, as the campus is essentially our 'garden.' Amenities include a heated 25-meter swimming pool, a tennis court, a football pitch, and a brand-new strength and conditioning gym.

During boarding hours, we will often open the Gym (basketball, badminton, dodge ball) or our heated swimming pool (open all year round). Boarders can use our beautiful grounds to play football, rounders, rugby or do the fitness trail. We have a varied weekend programme in boarding: in the past some of the boarders have taken part in surf lessons, coasteering, skiing, walking on Dartmoor, kayaking, kite-flying, boat trips, trips to theme parks, paintballing, gokart racing, riding, canoeing and climbing as well as discos, quiz evenings, pottery, BBQs, campfires and sports, plus many more. The range of activities depends on the season, staff availability and costs. We also organise social events every Saturday evening, some of smaller scale, some bigger ones – participation is compulsory. Please note all trips and workshops will incur extra charges.
Our boarders are also encouraged to make links within the local community. Many are members of local clubs and sports teams; there is a variety of offers for sports in our community, e.g. sailing, Surf Life Saving, diving, rugby club, football team, fitness centres.
we see this as a time for you to socialise. The school kitchen provides a balanced diet with plenty of healthy choices. At the weekends, snacks and fruit are also being provided in the boarding houses. Our caterer is ‘Holroyd Howe’ (for more info visit: www.holroydhowe.co.uk).
There is always a vegetation option and there are ALWAYS salads on offer. Boarders can help themselves to seasonal fruit at all times.
Our boarders love the food provided, and our chefs regularly receive complements. Most thank the chefs after the meal.
If boarders are not happy with what’s on offer, they are most welcome to seek to speak to our chefs who will do anything to help.
In order to safeguard students and others who may be allergic to nuts, please note that the school’s caterer operates a nut-free policy in the Refectory and Baguette Bar. Students must not, therefore, bring food containing nuts (for example breakfast cereals or Nutella) into the Refectory at any time. We expect that all communal areas within boarding houses are treated similarly to protect boarders who have may be allergic to nuts. Thank you for your support.
Boarders are allowed to order a take-away on Friday and Saturday evenings at their own cost.
Following Public Health advice, we do not want our boarders to consume energy drinks in boarding; these are not allowed at all for under 16s. If you are over 16, we do not wish them to be on display/seen in general boarding areas
starts (see term dates on website).
Make sure you send complete flight information to school well in advance. In addition to this, we must receive a copy of the booking or flight ticket.
We are happy to assist with booking of train tickets or taxis; however, requirements need to be communicated to school two weeks before travel at the latest; this includes the arrangements for the return journey. It is unlikely that you will be able to contact staff during the holidays.
It is most convenient nowadays to book train tickets using TRAINLINE app which allows parents to book train tickets for the child quickly and at any time, and for the child to have the ticket on the phone.
In recognition of the difficulty of arranging flights, students may leave school up to 24 hours before the official end of term. This exception will only be made at the end of the term and refers to the time the student actually leaves the school site, not the time of the flight.
If you need to leave school more than 24hrs before the end of the term, you must seek written permission from the Head of Key Stage.
We ask you to bear in mind that we do not allow departures or arrivals during the night hours as it disrupts our boarding community: you should not arrive here after 10pm.
Equally, we do not support departures from school before 7am. If your flight home departs early or arrives late, we can help you find a host family or guardian for the night. If you want to stay with a host family, family member of guardian, the nominated person must be over the age of 25.
Important: please let us know if a flight has been delayed as we would otherwise worry about your child’s whereabouts or safety. See boarding contact details on the last page.
Y9, Y10 and Y11 boarders should not leave the school site on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. They must sign out when leaving the school grounds and sign back in on return (this is a legal requirement). They must have a working phone, with credit, to get in touch and to be contactable, or be with someone with a working phone and mobile data.
On Friday after school, on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon Y9, Y10 and Y11 boarders can go to Teignmouth town. Y10 and Y11 boarders are allowed to go to Exeter on Saturdays and Sundays. Boarders always have to be back in boarding by 6.30pm. Nobody is allowed off site in the evenings. Please accept that these rules serve the child’s safety. Should something happen, we are responsible - parents are quite possibly far away and unable to help if something happens!
If you would like to stay away overnight, e.g. for a sleepover with friends, we require parental permission and an invitation from the host a couple of days before the planned stay.
A five-minute walk from school, on Ashleigh Way, there is a corner shop with a post office.
On Friday and Saturdays, you are allowed to go on a sleepovers at day pupil’s house; we need to receive an invitation from the host parents and the OK from your parents by the preceding Thursday, please.

Please accept that these rules serve your safety. We are responsible for you - your parents are far away and unable to help you! You have to accept these rules even if you are 18.
If you wear glasses, please bring a spare pair of glasses, and some to wear for sports. Y7-Y9 pupils attend Foot Tech (F.T.) lessons and have to buy their own ingredients for what they will cook or bake. We will support, of course, e.g. what to purchase and where, but we will not pay for the ingredients.
Letters and parcels are being delivered to Reception where boarding staff will pick them up for everybody. Please ensure all mail shows the boarder’s full name and the correct address (see p.27). No postal deliveries are made on Saturdays and Sundays.
All homework will be set via a website called EPRAISE; parents will also receive log-in details in order to see what homework has been set.
The school now expects parents to fill in on-line forms for attendance of school trips; this only takes a minute or two. The cost will appear as a payment request on an app called SCHOOLMONEY. The cost for school or boarding trips or any other charges cannot be taken off your deposit.
Our boarders come from England but also from a huge variety of countries: Spain, Russia, China, France, Russia, Ukraine, South Africa, Germany, Egypt, Myanmar, Thailand and many more. Use your time here to widen your horizon and learn about other cultures! Be open-minded and tolerant!
Boarders are encouraged to voice their opinions in order to improve our provision, see page 16. Parents, if you have concerns, please approach any of us, reception staff of teachers directly, rather than remain unhappy or worried. Everybody will always try to help.
Please remember to notify the school of any changes of address or contact numbers or any change in circumstances at the earliest possible opportunity. Check your spam folders for any school emails which might have landed there.
Guests, parents or guardians are only allowed in school with permission. Pictures and posters can be put up using BlueTac. No sellotape, please!
All boarders and boarding staff will attend an Induction Day on the second Sunday of the academic year.
Parents, if you are unable to bring your child to Trinity School and to meet boarding staff, you may at some stage receive an invitation to a Microsoft Teams meeting or Whatsapp call (one-term+ boarders only). This is an opportunity to meet your child’s houseparent and put a face to the name. You are under no obligation to accept this invitation. It would be great if, during that meeting, we can also see you on camera.
Trinity School. It is vital that we have knowledge of any medical conditions, medication required and allergies, so that you can be looked after. This also includes information that might affect your child’s mental well-being. We cannot look after your child properly unless we are aware of his/her needs and problems.
Boarders who are aged 18 and over, or who are exempt from NHS funding, will be required to pay for any medical expenses such as prescriptions, dental work, and glasses by their own funds (credit/debit card).
Within your first days at school, you will be registered with the local doctors’ surgery.
Do not bring any medicines to school unless prescribed for you by a doctor; please bring a letter from your doctor to support this. (translated into English.)
All medicines, including dietary supplements, are stored in the Medical Centre and administered from there as appropriate. Medicines, including vitamins, must not be kept in bedrooms. You might receive permission for self- administration by staff, in which case medication needs be kept in a locked box/drawer.
All parents and guardians are warmly invited to join our WhatsApp Community for parents of boarders who will be in Chapel House and MD Halls. This community will allow our houseparents to send photos of trips and activities to you. It is not a group in which everybody can comment or ask questions, and only houseparents can post messages and photos. All parents so far love seeing updates of what their children are up to, what we offer and what is going on in boarding.
If you would like to receive photos and messages of the kind mentioned above, please send our duty phone a Whatsapp message with your name and your relationship to the boarder (mum, dad or guardian) and we will be delighted to add you to the group.
Trinity School regularly publishes the SENIOR VOICE which can be accessed on the school website. In this publication, you will find lots of information about events and activities our pupils are involved in. www.trinityschool.co.uk/senior-senior-voice
Updates are also regularly onto our school social media accounts.

Refrigerators, kettles, heaters and rice cookers are not allowed in your room. Cooking of any kind is not permitted in bedrooms
You will have some access to the common area of MD Halls where there is a hob you can use. In our common room, there is a toaster and a sandwich maker We will confiscate it if boarders do not use it safely or don’t turn it off after use
We ask everybody to maintain a respectful relationship with friends and refrain from holding hands, hugging, kissing and touching inappropriate areas of others’ bodies We also strongly believe both alcohol and tobacco in any form are harmful for your health. These are therefore forbidden, as are vaporizers The full school policies are on display on the Square and on the school website – please familiarise yourself with all policies displayed there In short, no boarder is allowed to buy or consume alcohol or cigarettes – on and off site, even if you are 18. If you choose to do so, you will be reprimanded in accordance with our sanctions policy. Please note that no dangerous items may be brought into school including knives of any sort Energy drinks are not allowed for under 16s and not to be consumed in general boarding areas.

Most boarders bring cash cards/debit cards to be able to withdraw money or pay in the shops
Boarders need pocket money to purchase bare necessities like toiletries, stationary, batteries, and go to the barber They also should have some pocket money available to buy snacks, take the train to Exeter, treat themselves to an ice cream or occasionally go to the cinema.
We are unable to cash any money parents might transfer to the school’s bank account
The school cannot be held responsible for valuables which are left in rooms, e.g. phones, electronic games and equipment, or money Doors to boarding rooms cannot be locked We would encourage to have a small lockbox or a padlock It’s a good idea to have private insurance in case of accidental damage to your phone, ipad, laptop etc.
Boarders usually are not able to leave possessions in their rooms during the school holidays Everything needs to be packed up and stored in a designated room. Should you not return after the holiday, you must take everything with you; belongings of leavers will not be kept on site.
At the end of term and at half terms, it is important that you start clearing your room - notices will tell you what you need to do and when.
There will be some holidays when you are required to empty your rooms entirely Boarding Staff will let you know if this is necessary. On these occasions, items left behind will be collected and disposed of or given to charity, so remember to check that all your drawers and wardrobe spaces are clear
At all other times, you will be expected to clear every worktop and shelf so the cleaners are able to give your bedroom a thorough clean
Please remember to strip your bedding and put it in the laundry on the day you leave.
There is a small area available to store the belongings of returning boarders and items are signed in and out by each boarder with a member of staff.
