July 2012

June - July 2012- Summer Edition Dear Family and Friends, You may be surprised to know that for every Bible translator Wycliffe places, it takes 2 - 3 additional support personnel to keep them doing their job. This includes such necessary work like teaching missionary children, processing financial transactions and flying mission airplanes. However, one of the greatest needs we have is for qualified managers. Currently Wycliffe has hundreds of open manager positions around the world. Managers are needed for our construction and finance departments, IT and HR sections and in the supervision of facilities and other operational areas. One large need we have is for certified Project Managers. Another large need is for managers to help facilitate Bible translation cluster projects. To meet this need, Chuck has worked with a small team of programmers to produce a new Wycliffe manager recruitment micro web site called, “Managers For Missions”.

www.managersformissions.com Please send this web site to people you know who may be interested in possibly serving with us as a manager. There is a special tab in this site called “Share Your Skills”, where they can fill out a survey about their management skills

and passions. Chuck will then receive a copy of this survey and begin to work with them. So far in 10 months, Chuck has been able to help over 20 people begin their application with Wycliffe. However, you can understand that many more managers are needed. The work of Bible translation is being slowed down because of a lack of managers. In some cases, Bible translators are being called out of their translation work to take on management responsibilities, which has stopped their translation projects. Please pray that more people will inquire about the possibilities of serving as a manager with Wycliffe. Pray that many who do inquire will actually join and serve with us.

CHALLENGES AHEAD One topic that we never really enjoy talking about is our financial needs because we have had so many faithful supporters over the 27 years that we have served with Wycliffe. Many who started supporting us years ago have stood with us faithfully for 27 years. New supporters have also come on our team and others have increased their giving. However, even though we have had new people support us, we also have had people who have had to discontinue or decrease their support. Therefore, we feel the need to let you know our support has dropped to a level that concerns us. While we have tightened our belts on expenses, costs have gone up and so we are at the point where we need to let you know that we need to raise an additional $ 500 in monthly support. Therefore, we are asking that you pray that our needs will be met. If you would like to support us or know of a church who might, information about how to do so is included on the next page.

BARB’S CONTINUED WORK WITH GET GLOBAL Barb has worked this spring on coordinating the GET Global trips to Guatemala and Papua New Guinea. These are trips to help students consider becoming Bible translators and to know what steps are necessary to do so. Barb’s work involves not only helping plan the trip, but she also handles the applications for the participants, interviews them and their references and then coordinates their travel arrangements and issues related to health insurance. She also coordinates all of this with the trip leaders. Here are some of the GET Global trip participants you can pray for: Papua New Guinea (Total team of 7 – only 6 shown here due to space limitation)

You may wonder where all the guys are and we wonder too. Will you pray that the Lord will send us more young men who are interested in Bible translation work? FAMILY COMING TO THE USA We are happy that our daughter Maria and husband Josh Mishler and their three children (Ryan, Kody and Maya), who serve with Wycliffe overseas, will be coming on furlough this summer and plan to spend the year in Orlando! We are equally happy that our son Isaac and his wife Suzanne, who also serve with Wycliffe overseas, plan to furlough for a year in the USA. They plan to live in Texas near Suzanne’s parents and Isaac will be starting a Master’s Degree program.
