In 2011 Whistler had over 1,100 listings but only 458 total sales for the full calendar year of 2010. There were many factors which contributed to this excess

inventory and lack of sales. Partly due to everyone’s expectation that after a huge international event like the 2010 Winter Olympics buyers would start flooding in. But combine the build-up of sellers with the ever growing global financial crisis to create a tough sales environment. While most parts of the world struggled, there seemed to be a larger perception that Whistler was a market without buyers! The negative chatter was hard to overcome; it was almost as if people forgot why Whistler is so great. After 4 years of a declining market, 2013 was the year that finally pushed back and Whistler saw sales catch up and then pass inventory. The driving force was peoples’ perception that Whistler now

represented great value. It began in spring of 2013 and hit a fever pitch by the fall. 2013 saw 650 sales and currently our inventory is now 511 listings. A complete transformation from a couple of years ago. Here we are a first class mountain resort with visitors from all over the world and Vancouver, a growing city of 2.5 million people at our doorstep. We only need a few hundred sales per year to see a drastic shift. Why was there ever a doubt that this market would bounce back quickly?
