Winter 2014

Spice is the UK’s leading adventure, social and leisure group. Enjoy a jam-packed social life with over 100 events every month to choose from. All events are arranged for you, all you have to do is book and turn up. Spice membership is equivalent to a glass of wine or a ‘designer’ coffee a week.

Be part of it and join today to make friends, meet people, have fun

welcome! Hello and welcome to our Winter newsletter, and now the Christmas madness is behind us, we can concentrate on making sure 2014 gets off to a great start, and helping you with those New Year resolutions to be more healthy, get fitter, meet more people, and have more fun! We always have a huge intake of new members joining us at the start of the year, so a big friendly WELCOME from all of us in Spice, take a deep breath and get on that first event, and prepare for the most exciting year of your life! It’s also Ski season, and with over 19 Ski Trips running, we wish all skiers a snowtastic time. Many of our trips are full but cancellations come in and we still have some spaces on our March trips, the snow’s looking its best for 15 years, so if you want to join a group of happy Spice Skiers this season, better get your skis on! Our Easter Programme is also featured, four days of fab fun – our weekend breaks usually sell out so again, don’t snooze and lose! Presented within is another huge batch of wonderful opportunities to experience more fun with a ready-made bunch of people who by their decision to belong to Spice, want to share in life’s rich and varied experiences. If you’re new to Spice, the front and back coloured sections relate to the wider world of the Spice network of Groups, while the middle section from Page 7 onwards, relate to your local Branch of Spice. Bear in mind this printed word is so very quickly out of date, as our rolling programme of events is added to on a daily basis, some with short notice, so do use this newsletter in conjunction with the website, so you don’t miss anything. We also like to keep you updated with our weekly email featuring next week’s events.

Facebook is also a great way of staying in touch with us, particularly for photo-sharing. Our National Facebook Page is at www.fb.com/spiceuk, and there are links from there to all the local Spice groups pages. If you are big on Twitter, follow us at Spice_UK, and use the hashtag #spiceuk on your tweets, to make sure we don’t miss anything! And we are always very grateful for all your social networking support by liking, comments, sharing, retweeting, subscribing, thumbs up, google plus-ing, pinning and whatever else you can do to spread the Spice word! Across the page you will see we feature some of the members from around the groups, and we like to cover a broad spectrum of people, from newbies to oldies, the social types and the adrenaline junkies, singles and couples, as it helps show the world the type of people who join our happy band and what they get out of it. I have often said the answer to the Question – ‘What is Spice all about’ has 10,000 different answers, as it means something different and personal to each and every member. We are always looking for volunteers for this section, so if you are up for it, please drop me a note (dave@spiceuk.com) and I can send you the list of questions. So enjoy the Winter months, and look forward to seeing you on an event soon!

We are excited to put the spotlight on our greatest asset, the members and will be featuring two or three Member Profiles each edition.

Naomi Austin Group: Manchester Member for: 13 years

Rachel Reeve Group: West Midlands Member for: 7 years

Why did you join Spice I’d just moved to Manchester for a job and although I find it easy to make friends I wanted to do something a bit different with new people. A lot of my friends were settling down and I still wanted to do crazy stuff like throw myself out of a plane or breathe some fire... as you do!

What has been your favourite event? Gorge walking was my favourite event, until indoor surfing which I did for my birthday, with some of my best friends :)

What has been your favourite event? Spicefest 1 and 2 were my absolute favourite events! The newer members won’t have a clue what I’m going on about, but it was basically when the whole of Spice took over Pontins for 2 weekends in 2002 and 2003. Spicefest saw the one and only performance of the ‘Spicefest’ Girls with me as Sporty Spice! Memories that I think are burnt into many peoples brains... hopefully for the right reasons! Now I just love Center Parcs Penrith. What has been your most challenging event? The most challenging for me was the Spice panto in Bolton in 2003. Although I’m quite an outgoing person, trying to remember the lines for the part of Prince Valentino and singing in front of 100’s of people on stage was terrifying!!!! But what an achievement! I loved every minute of it! What is your funniest memory in Spice? The moment that stood out for me was being caught by Center Parcs Penrith security on CCTV after a party on foot heading for the M6 dressed as an angel. I was certain that the bright lights ahead of me (the motorway lights!) were the lights of my lodge! The security guys thought they were dreaming when they saw this ghostly apparition swaying across a field full of bemused sheep. What would be your advice for a new member? Just to throw yourself in the deep end and do anything and everything that you can (afford!) - everyone in Spice is tremendously friendly and I really have got friends for life through becoming a member! We literally go through the bad times and mainly the good times together. What is your life philosophy in one sentence. You get out of life what you put into it! Four people you’d invite to your dream dinner party? I’d love to invite Michael Jackson and just find out about the real person behind the mask. Eva Peron was such an inspirational figure thrown into politics by chance and I think a number of current politicians could learn a lot from her . I love Piers Morgan. He’s got a wicked sense of humour and regularly takes the pi$$ out of himself! He also once tweeted me back on Twitter! And I’d have to invite my mum as she’s the best cook and dinner party hostess I know! Most treasured belonging? Well, it has to be my beautiful rescue cats Crystal and Lily!

What would be your advice for a new member? Book every event that appeals, challenge yourself, talk to strangers and come say hello! Have you been on a Spice UK Holiday? You bet! Grand Canyon rafting is one of the greatest life experiences there is! Have you an embarrassing Spice moment? Embarrassing yet also funny... Was during the shootout at the kiddies playcentre where I fell down the ramp backwards. Shouted ‘I’m ok’ and actually drew attention to the fact I had fallen. What is your life philosophy in one sentence? You only get one shot, make it count. Your favourite movie? Robin Hood: Prince of thieves

Mark Biagioni Group: Scotland Member for: Around 13 years Why did you join Spice ? To meet new people, to visit new places, to enjoy new experiences - all of which I have done What has been your favourite event? My Mark’s meanders which I research and lead myself What has been your most challenging event? My first time as Volunteer Coordinator . It was in Edinburgh - a meal and firework show to mark the end of the Edinburgh festival - about 40 people were booked !!! What is your funniest memory in Spice? The first weekend I went to Pitlochry - those who were on it will know why. Everyone else will have to wait for my autobiography ! What would be your advice for a new member? Meet people half way. Everyone’s worst fear is that they will be ignored by the rest of the group at their first event. It doesn’t happen Spicers are a friendly bunch. They want to get to know you Have you been on a Spice UK Holiday? I have done loads of weekends but not a full length holiday as yet. Have you an embarrassing Spice moment? I was Volunteer Coordinator at an event and approached a couple of girls who looked like they were trying to find someone. They turned out to be French and their boyfriend appeared a second later and said something which I suspect was quite rude in French to me !!! What is your life philosophy in one sentence. The Chinese have a saying strangers are friends we have yet to meet. Four people (alive or dead) you’d invite to your dream dinner party? Mother Theresa, Winston Churchill, JRR Tolkien and JK Rowling Your favourite movie? I loved all the Lord of the Rings films as well as the back to the future series and all the Harry Potters Most treasured belonging? A silver chain my late parents gave me - every time I wear it it brings back so many happy memories.

easter events

Here is a small selection of our Easter Breaks – 3 very different weekends, but there are many more so do check your local website.

Sailing Easter Weekend Poole, Jurassic Coast and Weymouth WHEN: Thu 17 Apr 2014 - Mon 21 Apr 2014 WHERE: Poole Quay, Town Quay, Poole BH15 1BT COST: £354 Member, £374 Guest

On this cruise we take advantage of the four day break to head out of the Solent westwards past the famous Needles to Poole Harbour and scenic Studland Bay and then sail along the spectacular “Jurassic Coast” that stretches to the attractive seaside town of Weymouth. Poole Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in Europe and includes Brownsea Island (home of the original Scout camp and red squirrels). South of Poole Harbour is a coast of rolling chalk downland that extends a few miles to Durlston Head, punctuated midway by the famous “Old Harry” chalk stack. From Durlston Head the coast turns west. This is the start of the “Jurassic Coast”, which has a number of beautiful coves and bays such as Worbarrow and Lulworth. En route you also get to sail close to the majestic St Alban’s Head and see Portland Bill from a safe distance as we approach Weymouth. Weymouth is a traditional harbour where yachts moor on the quay in the heart of town. It is a favourite amongst sailors for its great shelter and pleasant nautical ambience. There is also the atmosphere of a holiday seaside town and ready access to many pubs and restaurants. The plan for this cruise is to sail during the day and be safely tucked up in port at night because early in the season nights are still long and can be cold. Lunchtime meals are taken underway and are normally of the type that can be eaten al fresco – hot pasties or pizza for example. Throughout the sailing day chocolate, snacks and biscuits are made available. Hot and cold drinks are provided as suits the conditions. We are able to cater for special diets. Your yacht is “Kelana”, a Dehler 39CWS. She is a fast cruising yacht designed to be rewarding to sail and comfortable to be aboard. We ensure that you have the opportunity to helm, adjust the sails and take part in the many tasks that make up a day under sail. You are encouraged to take part in the pilotage and navigation of the boat if you so wish. The extent to which you wish to be hands-on or relax is up to you. We want you to enjoy your weekend. Your skipper is an experienced Yachtmaster and Spice skipper who is used to ensuring that you get the experience you are looking for and who will take your wishes into account. We start and finish at Haslar Marina, Gosport. Car parking is available at the marina. On the Thursday evening we get to know each other over a meal either on the “Mary Mouse” ex-lightship in the marina or at a local restaurant ashore. Detailed joining instructions and clothing recommendations etc. are supplied shortly before the trip. Full weekend details are found on your local website.

Walking Weekend Easter in the Lakes WHEN: Fri 18 Apr 2014 - Mon 21 Apr 2014 WHERE: Glaramara, the Lake District CA12 5XQ COST From £249 Single

Includes 3 nights accommodation, 3 evening meals, 3 picnic lunches, 3 breakfasts, 3 guided walks Overview: Set in the heart of the Lake District, Glaramara is surrounded by some of the finest mountain and lakes in the country. Understandably this is one of our most popular locations, occupying a picture perfect setting which is the envy of every walker!! From the front door of the centre, there is a massive range of walking to choose from and the food is great too! There are the towering heights of Great Gable and Scafell Pike, Castle Crag, the beautiful Derwentwater, the superb cafes throughout Borrowdale and some traditional Lakeland hostelries! And it’s Springtime too which is arguably the finest of the seasons to visit! WalkWise Walking Programme: Quite simply this centre is one of the finest walking locations anywhere in the country, truly immersed in the deep Lakeland valleys and surrounded by majestic mountains and inviting Lakeland fells. By contrast, there are delightful river valleys with tranquil lakes, dancing waterfalls and peaceful woodland, providing enchanting scenery for all levels of walkers. For the hard walkers there are some truly wonderful high level options. England’s highest mountain Scafell Pike lies within a day’s walk of the centre, as does the beautiful Great Gable, and there are the other temptations of Glaramara, Allen Crags, Eagle Crag, Hindscarth and Robinson which are all accessible walks from the front door of the centre. As if that’s not enough it’s only a short hop over Honister Pass to a range of walks in the beautiful Buttermere valley. The final choice of walks and routes will be selected closer to the time when the weather and everyone’s ability and previous experiences of Borrowdale have been established. Meanwhile for the gentler walkers there are some beautiful lower fells that can be reached without too much effort: Castle Crag, Kings How and Bessy Boot are all wonderful viewpoints providing excellent value for your efforts. Styhead Pass and Sprinkling Tarn lie at the very heart of the most spectacular mountains in England, and there is also the dramatic scenery of Dale Head Tarn and the Newlands valley. But we must not forget the beautiful Langstrath and Buttermere valleys, and the hidden tea shops in the hamlets of Watendlath, Seathwaite and Rosthwaite, all of which add to the delights of the lower walks. To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, WalkWise UK will provide a minimum of two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On both days there will be a harder walk of 10-12 miles with 2500+ft of ascent, and a gentler walk of 6-9 miles with less ascent. However, this event is usually a sell out, particularly at Easter and should this occur we will happily put on a third grade of walk to help ensure you all go home happy walkers. Accommodation: Glaramara, is a purpose built walking centre at the foot of the Borrowdale Valley in the heart of the beautiful Lake District National Park. The centre offers a mixture of single with shared single sex bathrooms and twin-bedded / double en-suite rooms. Some of the bedrooms have lovely views of the surrounding valleys and hills and all have complimentary tea/ coffee facilities. There is a well-stocked bar and comfortable lounges, so you can relax in the evenings. Their catering has an excellent reputation amongst walkers for good wholesome food, the portions are plentiful and the packed lunches satisfying! Then, should you have any excess energy, there is a cosy bar, or three excellent country pubs within walking distance for an evening drink! Having been a Spice member for 25+ years, coordinator of Spice Manchester for 6 years and meeting so many lovely people along the way on so many fun events, it is brilliant to be able to be involved with Spice Yorkshire. I am so looking forward to getting out on events and meeting lots of you, although I have met quite a few already over the course of my years on National Events and Holidays. Of course the fabulous Jonathan is still ably assisting the smooth running of Spice Yorkshire capably backed up by Jill and although we have taken on some of the admin at Manchester, this is to free Jonathan & Jill up to source some fab new events in the coming months. Credit Notes: As part of the transfer of ownership it would really assist if you were able to use any credit notes issued in the last year before 5th February 2014, however regardless we will guarantee to honour “all credit notes” issued for the full 12 months from the original date of issue. Please Note: As part of the changes, if you post in bookings rather than phone or book online, can you please direct all posted mail to Spice Yorks Ltd, C/o The Stables, 11 Poplar Road, Stretford, Manchester, M32 9AN – this way the mail actually gets to us faster than when you were sending it via the P.O. box & we can get you booked on earlier! New Members Evenings in Leeds and Sheffield… This is your chance to learn all about us, our history, what we do, how we do it and why Spice can provide you with lots of new friends and an exciting new door to your social life as well as new interests you never knew existed. We will cover the basic nuts and bolts of Spice including our membership fees, structure and what we do in Spice. How we do it and how being a member allows you to be a part of and partake in a vast selection of local, area, national, and even international activities which are on offer at all times. After the short overview and presentation, there will be a chance to ask as many questions as you like as well as taking a look at some of the activities our members get up to. There will be a special joining offer and/or probably some kind of promotion which you will be eligible for should you decide to join on the night, which varies from month to month. However there is absolutely no obligation to join on the night because this is simply your chance to meet a few of us and learn what we are all about. (You can join at any time online 24/7). After the presentation and offer, we'll mix and mingle a little with everyone and then at around 9pm we will expect a few more members to arrive when we have the second part of our evening. This is aimed at new members who have recently joined. We'll explain what are the ideal up and coming events as a new member, how to get involved and what other events to look out for. What are the best events when starting from scratch and how to really get involved with us. How to go about attending those events and of course all the other many useful things you should know as a spice member. This part of the evening will be dedicated to helping you get the most out of your Spice membership. It includes how to make use our web site, newsletters and all the other Spice websites and of course the all-important booking processes for events.

Bridge Abseil and Ladder Climb ..it'll scare you to death - but you'll love it!!

Another of Mark's brilliant events that are aimed at those who really want to conquer a challenging outdoor pursuit, but feel the need for some extra 'loving care' and patience to help them meet their ambition. This day is an ideal introduction in an interesting cave system, but one where you have the peace of mind of knowing that you could quickly be brought to the surface if the experience proves too much! So if you've always been a bit wary of taking your first trip underground then this is the event for you. Grade: Easy Directions will be sent out before the day. Medical Note: If you have any medical conditions that could prevent you taking part in this adventure activity, please contact your doctor in advance to check. If you are unsure, please contact the instructor, Mark Fenton directly on 07798 790766 or your Spice office.

Fire Eating Workshop

Ever fancied the idea of a freefall abseil (like the SAS do out of a helicopter!) from a precipitous 80' viaduct to the river bank below…and then climbing back up using a metal caving ladder which swings and sways! (saves having to walk all the way back to the top anyway). We thought you might, so we arranged a great day for you. Once you've plucked up the courage to do it once, there will be no stopping you. It's a great confidence booster and gives a real sense of achievement. This day is run by Mark Fenton (who many have written in praising and requesting more of) so you can be sure that there will be lots of fun, a relaxed atmosphere where absolute beginners will find lots of nurturing and encouragement and a totally commitment to your safety at all stages.

Sadly Bob died in 2012 but his legacy remains in the happy faces of those members who have conquered this unique and dramatic skill. In memory of Bob we have created a new Fire Eating workshop with Blair, a performer who we believe to be the only remaining person teaching the same techniques as Bob. Fire Eating & Breathing: This has got to be one of the Spice Classic Events. Go on, it must be on your list of "Got to do's". If you are not sure about doing it then ask around and find out what a great day it is! Over 2000 Spice members have faced the challenge and swallowed fire - and the feedback forms tell us it's crazy - thrilling - adrenaline pumping and more - fire eating is one of our Classic Events that sets Spice and its members far above the mundane and gives you the chance to leave mediocrity behind and become extra-ordinary. The morning session comprises a thorough programme of games and exercises done as a group, designed to boost confidence and team spirit, and to prepare members for the challenge of safely learning this dangerous and esoteric skill. The day culminates in the incredible sight of all the team swallowing firebrands and for the grand finale - a team photo of everyone flame throwing! Are we mad - not when you know how!

The Sheepdog Experience TLC - Thinking Like Canines!!

Date: Place: Meet: Cost: Host:

Sunday 16th March from 11am to 1:30pm Mainline Collies, Baildon # (BD16 3AU) Golcar Farm, Spring Lane £69 Member, £75 Guest Vicki Sykes

A sheepdog is an intelligent thinking animal and is capable of making its own decisions when the line of duty calls for instant reaction to certain situations. Training a dog to work sheep requires not only skill and patience but also knowledge of the dog’s mind and of its basic instincts. Working a trained sheepdog requires a similar knowledge of the dog’s mind, for to work a pack dog the handler must first learn to think like a pack dog, TLC Think Like Canines. The Sheepdog Experience is not about rushing into a field and trying to move sheep from one area to another with a dog you hardly know and with no skill or feeling involved. It is about the skills involved, the history of the breed, the basic instincts, understanding the working mind of the collie and of learning to harmonise with it. The Sheepdog Experience gives you the opportunity to learn as much as possible about farming, sheep, Sheepdogs and trialling. You will also be surprised at how much you learn about communication and confidence and if you have a dog of your own you will pick up tips on training.

Sunday 13th April Tissington Derbyshire # Morning meet £145 Member, £149 Guest Spice West Midlands

This is one of those experiences of a lifetime! You'll never have an experience like ballooning. You arrive at the launch site...nothing is happening. A van arrives, towing a large 'shopping' basket. People gather in groups, look skywards muttering about clouds and met reports. Then suddenly it’s all action with people running everywhere as our balloonists decide we're going for it! Final checks are made, you hop in and are away, rising majestically, taking an eagles view of the fields and hills spread in a tapestry below. In experienced hands you'll enjoy a memorable flight, lasting 30-60 minutes before they bring you gently earthward. Please note: flights are weather dependent, so dates cannot be guaranteed. If you’re unable to fly on the date chosen, our supplier Wickers World will offer another date that is mutually convenient. Their special terms & conditions will be sent

Zip World - Ultimate Zipline Experience .. fly for 1 mile at nearly 100mph & 500 feet up!

Date: Sunday 13th April at 11:30am Place: Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda # (LL57 4YG) Cost: £49 Member, £55 Guest (Deposit £10) Includes: 2 x Zipwire trips (little zipper & big zipper), flying suit, goggles, quarry tour by truck This is an unbelievable new event! You may have seen it on The One Show, BBC News or Blue Peter (if not click the links at www.zipworld.co.uk to watch them via YouTube!) So why should you travel to Wales for this one? Well, Zip World has the longest zip line in Europe and is claimed to be “the nearest thing to flying like Superman”. The Zip World site contains two specially constructed and spectacular zip lines, the first will take you down to the bottom of the quarry where you will pick up your specialised vehicle for a magnificent quarry tour, before zip lining back (one mile!) to the start. You will be going at speeds of around 100mph and you will be travelling 500ft above the mountain lake so be ready for a ride of a lifetime! How does our afternoon work: We will meet up for briefing and for kitting up with flying suits, helmets and goggles. We then get to experience “Little Zipper”, a mere 500 meters of fun that will whet our appetites for what is to come. At the base of “Little Zipper” we join our trucks (15 per truck) that take us on a guided tour of the quarry, ending at the very top. This is an exciting trip, using vertiginous quarry tracks from the days when hundreds of men worked quarried slate at Penrhyn. The views are dramatic. We eventually reach the summit and the mighty “Big Zipper”. This we descend one after another at approx. 2 minute intervals. Be prepared to be terrified, invigorated and awed... all at the same time! These are the kind of events that many of us joined Spice to do. Come along and try something new!

Xplore Cosmic Golf! Mystery & fantasy combine to create the UK's first Glow-inthe-Dark Mini Golf courses. Xplore presents two heavily themed, UV lit courses (don’t forget no white underwear under dark clothes girls!!) suitable for Spicers of all ages and we’ll have a go at both of them! A great mid week fun cheap event. We can then Xplore (!!) the bars in Xscape no doubt afterwards to discuss our scores! Course 1 - Search for Atlantis Legend has it that the sea god Poseidon himself protects the ancient underwater city. Explore the depths of the Ocean and encounter "The Kraken", sharks and ancient shipwrecks. Finally face the fury of Poseidon inside the lost city of Atlantis. Course 2 - The Mummy's Curse After awakening the spirit of the Pharaoh you must journey through the ancient tomb, treasure rooms and Egyptian hallways to find the Fountain of Egypt. Only here can you lift the terrible Mummy's Curse. Directions: Follow the brown tourist signs from junction 32 of the M62 to Xscape where there are 1,400 free parking spaces. There's a dedicated rail station at Xscape called Glasshoughton station. On entering Xscape go up the escalator in front of you and turn left at the top to find Xplore.

Refreshments of tea and coffee are provided free of charge. The session includes tuition, equipment hire and insurance. The session is fun and easy-going. Most importantly we will get you shooting safely and (relatively!) accurately by the end of the session. We will introduce you to some expressions used in archery and teach you how to score and we will host a mini-competition. On occasion we have been known to shoot at balloons during these sessions! The session will last for around two hours depending on the group size.

Hal has also been nominated for a Chortle Award and a Perrier Award. Please bear in mind that comedians often use strong language. Please don't book this if you are easily offended.

Anyone who has been out walking on the hills will appreciate the problems that may arise if you are not prepared and this weekend is designed to make sure you're aware of what can happen and what to do about it. The majority of the weekend is practical so you will be out walking in the breathtaking scenery of the Welsh Hills. The countryside in which we’ll be walking, as well as being of outstanding beauty, is ideally suited to developing navigation skills as it is not always easy to follow the paths and rights of way. The emphasis for the weekend is on enjoying the walks and the instruction will be given on the hoof with each person having the opportunity to develop their own level of confidence. Both day's walks are quite extensive but the pace is leisurely so you don't need to be superfit to take part.

Through the use of healing touch, energy therapies, chakra work, sound, dowsing, movement and meditation you will discover and explore hidden elements of yourself. Learning to connect with your hidden self can help promote greater self-confidence which can lead to a more balanced and harmonious lifestyle. Participation will be the keyword during this weekend. Your guide and instructor on this gentle break is Suzanne, holistic therapist working in many different fields. As well as being trained in several massage techniques, Suzanne is also a Reiki Master, Seichim Master, Reflexologist, and Meditation Teacher. She will introduce you to Chakras, grounding, simple energy work, looking at the balance of body and spirit, meditation and pathworking. Your skipper is an experienced Yachtmaster who is used to ensuring that you get the experience you are looking for. If you are new to sailing you will be amazed at how quickly you are able to ‘learn the ropes’. If you are a more experienced sailor you will find that your skills are acknowledged and then opportunities are created for you to step into tasks that extend you slightly where you need stretching (if that is what you want). We usually manage to cover the whole Solent during the course of the weekend, and there are excellent eating places at all the overnight stops. Cruises start from and return to Gosport. Whatever the weather – whether the winds have been strong or light; whether it has been foggy or clear; warm or cold; previous crews have had highly enjoyable weekends, with many people returning time and again. The boat is a Dehler 39. She is a cruiser/racer – comfortable, forgiving, and fast. The above is the first of over twenty sailing weekends that we have organised in 2014 both in the UK and abroad. One of them has already sold out so don’t snooze and lose - take a look at the event list on our website now at www.spiceyorks.com/events!

Highlighted Holidays SKI MERIBEL

ROME MINI BREAK

Skiing in Meribel offers something for everyone. With an unrivalled amount of skiing and boarding, the Trois Vallées is a magnificent ski area. Intermediates especially will thrive on the 600kms of well-kept pistes; you can ski all week and still leave plenty of runs untouched. In the two villages and higher up, beginners can cut their teeth on a wealth of uncrowded nursery slopes. Experts can tackle the infamous Courchevel couloirs and the Chanrossa bumps.

Get away from it all and treat yourself to a weekend break in Rome. The culture and beauty of Rome leave a deep impression on all who see the city for the first time, so rich in history and so alive. It is no surprise that Rome is known as the Eternal City. None has a past so colourful and few have shaped western civilisation in such a way. Rome is as much a feast for lovers of art, as for lovers of good food.
