WHERE WERE YOU BORN & WHERE DO YOU CALL HOME?

I was born in Innisfail grew up there until I finished high school then have called Weipa home for the past 9 years

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME / HOBBIES?

I m a single mum of 2 boys under 4 so we're usually out camping or doing something so they’re not tearing the house apart, I am a social butterfly so you can usually find me sinking a schooner at the pub with some mates or breaking it down on the D floor

WHAT IS SOMETHING NEW THAT YOU HAVE LEARNT ABOUT NAPRANUM SINCE STARTING AT NASC?

I have learnt a lot about the history of how Napranum came to be and how diverse but close netted the community is as a whole

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

There are a lot of things I enjoy about my role from helping our employees with any issues they have at work to recruiting people within the community that have a passion for Napranum and want to inspire the younger generation or help out their family by being successful with their career I also like the nerdy side of my position such as paperwork, contracts and what rights we have as employees and educating others on what they can do to better themselves professionally

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?

My greatest accomplishment would definitely be my two beautiful boys and being a role model for them for when they grow up to live life to the fullest and never apologise for being yourself

In my position I come in contact with community as well as our current employees so I can resonate with all of them for different reasons such as;

Local Participation- recruiting within community

Mutual Trust and Respect- respecting that everyone is different and handles things different and respecting that

Professionalism- Being professional sets a standards especially to our new employees on how we should act and behave at work

Pride- Taking pride in what I do at work

Listening to Community- hearing about what or where recruiting needs improving on

Accountable- We're all human we make mistakes so being held accountable for things we do wrong and even things we do right

Finance continue to operate and fulfil all Council’s finance needs and ensure everyone is paid on time.

June is a busy month for all Corporate departments with the end of FinancialyearandpreparingforauditwhichwillhappeninAugust Financecontinuestobebusyaseverorganisingandensuringstaffand creditors are paid on time and ensuring data is entered for the end of financialyear

Human resources continues to remain very busy with recruitment, generalHumanresourcemattersandqueries.Wecurrentlyhave8jobs vacant with a large amount of these new positions being added to Councils portfolio with the adoption of the budget. Work Health and Safety has been pushing on continuing to make positivechangestosafetyinourworkplaceandcommunity.Youwillsee more of Ben around community addressing safety needs and ensuring allcommunitymembersaswellasCouncilstaffandcontractorsremain safe

We are also looking at the new psychosocial hazards in the workplace andensuringwearecompliantandacrossalltheseareasaswell. We continue to run our safety circle meetings and striving to our motto togeteveryonehomesafeeveryday

Welcoming all our NECC Kindy families back from the school holidays. We have a busy month ahead focusing on NAIDOC Week. The center was lucky enough to have a visit from Northern Pride footy team, this was a highlight to the children.

Decking works are in progress. Underground electrical works (live connection) to the van has been undertaken

The grease trap for the waste has also been installed underground

The shade sail location has also been established and marked out.

FORESHORE & COMMUNTY HALL UNISEX DISABLE PUBLIC ABLUTION BLOCK

New public toilets are underway and almost ready for people to use, these toilets are located at the Foreshore and the Community Hall.

A Message from the Director

The team has been very busy throughout the last few months We currently have some of our team members working with Amrric completing the animal census within the community. We are also in the process of rolling out a new system for our Parks & Gardens team & our Environmental Health Worker- Billy Daniel, this will focus on cleaning the community streets.

We are also in the progress of organising massive beach clean up at Pennefather- keep an eye out for our notice boards & social media platforms for more information.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Council is proud to announce that Billy Daniel & Michael Fatnowna have successfully completed their Pest Management Certificate The team will soon be licensed which will allow the team to complete any pest control required within the community. Keep up the good work!

Animal Pound

Council are in the progress of opening a new animal pound in the community. This will allow for a better process handling the animals in the community. Stay tuned for more details regarding the opening

NAPRANUM SCHOOL BUS

Students to be respectful to bus driver and bus monitors. Please DO NOT swear, put your hands out the window, throw rubbish, jump around, play music or be loud and rowdy.

NO food or drinks are allowed on the bus. All children must be seated with seat belts on when on the bus. If your child is misbehaving, they will not be allowed on the bus.

IMPROVING OUR STANDARDS

In preparation of Foundation Day, Council teams joined together to clean up the Foreshore. It was a great outcome and a big thank you to those who helped. We encourage everyone to help keep the community clean by picking up your rubbish so we can all enjoy a clean and safe environment.

NADS welcomed the Western Cape College students for story time, the students have been learning about media picture and presented their assignments to our clients. Thank you to all the students and teachers that helped to make this day possible.

This years NAIDOC theme is "FOR OUR ELDERS"

If you would like to join us on any of these days please contact the centre on 07 4090 5600 between 8:00am-3:30pm M-F to secure a spot or to speak to one of our staff members

Pick-up for these trips start from 9:30am and Returns will be around 12:30pm– 2:00pm, depending on the activity for that day. This service is for all Napranum Aged and Disability Services clients
