As part of our Work.Wear&Care strategy, we are consistently striving for more responsible solutions when developing and selecting our materials.

Items with responsible materials are marked with “Responsible Choice.” All items with this label contain materials that are a better alternative to conventional ones. In our Responsible Choice category, you will find items containing materials such as TENCEL™ Lyocell, TENCEL™ Lyocell x REFIBRA™ Technology, REPREVE® recycled polyester, cotton sourced as Better Cotton, or fabrics with recycled cotton and/or polyester.

It has always been crucial for us to create workwear with a long lifespan. Therefore, the fabrics we use in our production must meet high standards. We ensure this by conducting various wash and wear tests, guaranteeing that our items are laundry-proof. Moreover, the high quality of our articles contributes to limiting resource waste. Whether our items are labeled Responsible Choice or not, you can always expect garments with high durability and longevity. Our passion for progress means that we continuously explore the

BETTER COTTON

Kentaur is a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative. With our membership, we have committed ourselves to improving global cotton cultivation. Better Cotton operates as a mass-balance system. Hence, purchasing a product with the Better Cotton logo is not a guarantee that the product itself contains cotton from Better Cotton-certified farming. However, by buying a product with sourced Better Cotton, you contribute to our investment in Better Cottons mission.

All the cotton used in our products labeled "Responsible Choice" comes from Better Cotton. SOCIAL CHEMICAL ENVIRONMENT MATERIAL

MATERIAL WITH RECYCLED TEXTILES

Our materials with recycled textiles contain recycled textile fibers from pre- and/or post-consumer textiles. Pre-consumer textiles are textile waste from production, while post-consumer textiles are textiles that have been worn out in their current form.

The material quality is developed for industrial laundries, ensuring good durability and colorfastness. The percentage of recycled material in the fabrics can vary from style to style. If you want to know the precise percentage of recycled material, you can always find this information on the individual product.

REPREVE® RECYCLED POLYESTER (rPES)

The product meets the requirements of Textile Service and can, therefore, be handled according to the ISO 15797 standard.

HACCP

The Kentaur HACCP collection is DIN 10524 certified in all three hygiene risk classes, complying with the legal requirements for food safety.

INCHES - OPTIMAL FIT

The product is supplied in inch sizes, which provides a widened range of sizes.

VAT DYED

Used to dye cellulose fibers like cotton and lyocell, these materials get the best attainable color fastness. Vat dyes withstand bleaches better than other dye types.

R&D DYED

Products are colored with reactive and dispersed dyes. Clear shades can be obtained with R&D. They do not tolerate bleaching.

BREATHE & STRETCH

The product contains materials that allow greater breathability, and mobility.

COMFORT STRETCH

The back of the product is cut on the bias, and the diagonal direction allows better elasticity and freedom of movement for the wearer.

In our efforts to increase the use of responsible materials in our collections, our range of products with TENCEL™ Lyocell is also expanding. TENCEL™ Lyocell is not only a responsible choice because of the fibers and their resource-saving production. The material is also beneficial for laundries as products made of TENCEL™ Lyocell have a long lifetime due to their enduring color fastness and durability. Furthermore, they have a short drying time, ensuring energy savings in the washing process.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are produced from the natural raw material wood in a closed-loop process, where 99.8% of the solvent is recovered. The comfortable, soft material is well-suited for workwear, as it possesses many excellent properties. The structure of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers allows the absorption and release of moisture. These effective moisture-controlling properties support a drier microclimate on the skin, increasing the wearer’s thermal comfort. This makes TENCEL™ Lyocell ideal to use in workwear worn for extended periods.

For individuals working in warm environments, the fabrics made of TENCEL™ Lyocell have additional benefits. The moisture-regulating properties also provide an unfavorable environment for odor-causing bacterium types. TENCEL™ Lyocell is, therefore, the perfect material for workwear used in the food industry.

AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARDS CIRCULARITY

At Kentaur, we have an ambitious sustainability strategy, where our focus lies on a circular economy, including the production of products with recycled fibers. Through our partners, Lenzing AG and Klopman International, we have succeeded in creating products that contain recycled cotton.

To produce TENCEL™ Lyocell with REFRIBA™ technology, wood and cotton textile waste are used as raw materials. The fibers contain 30% recycled material sourced from pre-and post-consumer waste. The fabric used in our new chef jackets consists of 50% TENCEL™ Lyocell with REFIBRA™ technology and 50% recycled polyester.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with REFIBRA™ technology offer the same benefits as virgin TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, including excellent moisture absorption, temperature regulation, and naturally reduced development of odor. This fabric is the ideal choice for workwear in the gastronomy industry. It is comfortable and soft on the skin and tested to meet the quality requirements of Textile Service. To emphasize this, we organized a photo shoot with our own colleagues, where everyone wore the same pants (16410). Despite widely different shapes and sizes, we have pants that

fit everyone. For us, it is never a problem to find workwear that fits a larger team. Because workwear is much more than just clothing.

The development of our products happens in close collaboration with focus groups consisting of people from relevant jobs and functions.

This collaboration provides us with valuable insights into their

TENCEL™ LYOCELL X REFIBRA™ TECHNOLOGY

To produce TENCEL™ Lyocell with REFRIBA™ Technology, wood and cotton textile waste is used as raw materials. The fibers contain a minimum of 30% recycled materials. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with REFRIBA™ Technology offer the same benefits as standard TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers. Like TENCEL™, REFIBRA™ is also a trademark of Lenzing AG.

COTTON (CO)

Cotton is a soft natural fiber, and absorbs moisture well, giving it a high comfort level. In addition, cotton is very hard wearing, only superseded by synthetic fibers, and thus it is ideal in blends with polyester when a durable, hard-wearing material is required.

POLYESTER (PES)

Polyester is the most widely used synthetic fiber. When it is blended with cotton, the optimal mix is 65% PES / 35% CO regarding durability and suitability for washing. Polyester enhances the PES/CO blend with qualities such as strength, minimal shrinkage, crease resistance and short drying time. This makes PES/CO blends highly suitable for workwear.

ELASTANE/EOL/EME/MECHANICAL STRETCH

Many of our qualities are stretch fabrics, as elasticity increases comfort. It is important to ensure high recovery, so that elasticity and comfort are maintained throughout the product’s lifetime. As a rule, Kentaur uses stretch fabrics in which elasticity is achieved

through firmly spun yarns and the weaving technique (mechanical stretch/natural stretch) or elastic fibers which can withstand washing in industrial laundries without losing elasticity.

TWILL

Twill is a weave characterized by the distinctive slanting stripes, known from the denim fabric used for jeans. The twill construction produces a structured surface and a supple fabric. Many of Kentaur’s fabrics are twill, because this fabric is good for pants, upper parts, and aprons.

PLAIN /PANAMA

Plain weave is the simplest weave. It is the same on the right side and the reverse side, firm and stable, and produces a strong fabric. Plain weave is normally used for the lighter products such as shirts and functional shirts. Panama is derived from the plain weave, but there are fewer binding points, which produces a softer and more supple fabric. Panama is normally woven in thicker yarns, which combines with the weave to produce a smart structured surface. Panama is used for aprons in Kentaur’s collection.

PIQUE

Pique is a knitted construction that is known from polo shirts. At Kentaur pique is used in garments in our HoReCa & Retail and Healthcare & Service segments. Knitted fabrics generally increase the comfort for the wearer since they have greater elasticity and allow greater freedom of movement than woven fabrics. We collaborate with different producers to ensure that pique fabrics can be washed in accordance with ISO 15797 and meet requirements for stability of shape and color fastness.

DYEING

For Textile Service, good color fastness is important, and the greater part of Kentaur’s collection is therefore vat dyed. MATERIALS WITH RECYCLED TEXTILES

Our materials with recycled textiles contain recycled textile fibers from pre- and/or post-consumer textiles. Pre-consumer textiles are textile waste from production, while post-consumer textiles are textiles that have been worn out in their current form. The material quality is developed for industrial laundries, ensuring good durability and colorfastness. The percentage of recycled material in the fabrics can vary from style to style.
