Then, only fifteen years later, in 1996, Proserpine Co-op erative Sugar Mill crushed two million tonnes – an Australian record for a sugar mill with one set of crushing mills.

Just like food nourishes the body and brain, so does movement! And, intellectually, we can list the benefits:

• Improved circulation

When we do move our body, energy flows through it, our bodily systems are activated,

There are numerous mental health benefits related to movement, and that’s not even just exercise. We all know, intellectually, that exercise is good for us, and it’s time to turn intellectual into action. The truth is that whatever your lifestyle: there is always an opportunity to move.

We’ve disconnected from our bodies to the extent that, often, we only notice them when they go wrong. We’re detaching from a pivotal process and doing more of the things that are harmful for our brains.

which makes us function well, and our brain generates various happy hormones (transmitters) that make us feel good.

From two-year-old ‘Little Gems’ to 18-yearolds considering a professional career, Edge Dance can teach any level and any style – from jazz to tap, hip hop to acro, modern and musical theatre.

Celebrating their first year in business, the dance students will be holding their inaugural concerts this November and have been practising all year to fine tune their routines.

“It’s been an amazing year. We have children who have been dancing for many years and those who never stepped foot on a dance floor,” said Emma.

Bowen classes take place Monday and EdgeTuesday.Dance offer ‘Little Gems’ casual classes for 2–3-year-olds in Proserpine which are open for enrolments all year round.

Emma Whybird, Director of Edge Dance Studio Whitsunday, understands the devotion and passion it takes to transform dance into performance and imparts this knowledge to her young students every day.

• Improved mood

The purest form of uninhibited movement is dance - free flowing, expressive and dynam ic. Learning to move your body to the music is an artform and a sport.

Sit at work, come home and sit, go to bed late, wake up, drive to work – seated – and sit again. Eat, sleep, sit, repeat. It’s easy. But the connection between your brain and your body is a “two-way street.” Working your legs can work your grey matter; if you’re feeling down, it might behove you to move.

Jobs keep us stuck at a desk all day long, machines do our heavy lifting, and phones and other gadgets mean we can do almost anything, all without moving.

DANCE ON THE EDGE

Proserpine dance classes are held at the old St Catherine’s School building in a newly refurbished dance studio from Monday to Thursday every week.

• Improved clarity

In the last few generations, we have become radically sedentary.

Endeavour to take a morning or afternoon walk, cycle to work, hop up from your desk and go for a little cruise around the office. Getting started is the hardest part.

• Improved resilience

“For me, it’s all about building confidence. I love watching how the younger students look up to the older students. We have a great family atmosphere here.”

It’s hard to find a more iconic Australian fish than the mighty barramundi and while there is often an ongoing debate as to whether the saltwater or freshwater/ impoundment fish rule (personally I love targeting both equally!) as we inch closer to the saltwater barra closure on October 31st, it is time for the impoundments to shine. And Peter Faust Dam is definite ly one of the best options in the country, bringing its fair share of visitors to the re Alreadygion.

Next year, Damien has his work cut out for him to best this one. He might not invite Paul back again though!

And boy did Faust deliver with Paul notch ing up one our catches of the year, and cer tainly fish of a lifetime for Paul with this whopper measuring 117 centrimetre on the second day, one of two meteries for Paul for the trip (the other being 106!).

Dom Friend was the first to make it to a preliminary final by defeating Jamie Woods 9/5. Dom’s finishing was the key to this one, with the match ultimately decid ed on the outer ring.

While many of our charter an glers throughout the year are travelling to the Whitsundays for pleasure and will fit in a trip on the dam while they are here, at this time of year, we start to see the regulars who are travel ling to the region for the specific purpose of barra fishing. These are the true barra addicts who book months in advance and fish multiple days for that bucket list fish, specifically the ‘meteries’ (fish over 1 me tre in length).

Andy Peel hit a nice 101 checkout on his way to victory over Aaron Paull in the first of two Elimination Finals by 9 legs to 3. Andy will now meet Jamie Woods in next week’s semi-finals thanks to that win over SeumasAaron.
