Alegend of Brothers’ Rugby League Club, the ultimate prankster, one of Mackay’s most successful businessmen, a salty plum and pickled onion lover. A husband, dad, brother, son and friend to many. There are many layers to remembering the legacy of Peter Phillips.

Approaching the one-year mark since Peter Phillips’ life was tragically cut short, his wife Denise and daughters Ashleigh and Ella reminisce about a man who was not just a husband and father, but a mischievous prankster and someone who wanted to see other people happy. While Peter's absence left a huge void, his loved ones find comfort in remembering the countless memories he left behind. Though they can't move on from his loss, they're determined to move forward, guided by the warmth of his spirit and the legacy of laughter and love he shared with them.

Peter grew up immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of the town's hospitality scene, with his parents owning and operating establishments such as the legendary Leichhardt Hotel.

It was his frequent visits to Byrne's Pie Factory, just next door to the family hotel, that ignited his lifelong passion for food and cooking. Under the watchful eye of owner Snowy Byrnes, Peter would eagerly lend a hand, shaping biscuits and gingerbread men with a cookie cutter.

His sporting prowess was evident from his early years, with rugby league serving as his playground of choice. From mini-footy with St. Joey's to donning the butcher's stripes for Brothers, Peter's talent shone brightly. Representing North Queensland and clinching junior premierships with Brothers in the 1980s, he quickly made a name for himself as a formidable force on the field.

A pivotal moment in Peter's life came when he crossed codes to attend Nudgee College in Brisbane, where he joined the ranks of the First 15 rugby team. It was during his time at Nudgee that Peter rekindled a romance with Denise Young, a Mackay girl, a relationship that blossomed into the cornerstone of his life. He signed a professional contract with the Gold Coast Seagulls at 18, which furthered his love story with Denise.

“There were many speedy trips to and from Brisbane and the GC in Pete’s Mazda and my Edgar Escort,” Denise remembered.

“Our parents were clearly mortified but powerless to stop us – our love and need to be together was too strong for both of us and we’d just drive!”

After moving back to Mackay, he was a force on the field for Brothers under the tutelage of his mentor, Mick Aprile, playing a pivotal role in the club's premiership victories in 1995 and 1997.

The couple kicked off their first business, a

Mortgage Choice franchise, in 2000. As if life wasn’t busy enough, they welcomed their first daughter, Ashleigh.

“Never could there have been a prouder dad than Pete,” Denise said.

“Completely hands-on – never wanting to miss a single thing.”

Six years later, Pete’s heart was once again stolen by their second daughter, Ella.

The girls fondly remember their dad for being a prankster, but also for being the dad who was always there for them.

“It’s one thing to be a father, it’s another to be a dad, and mine was a dad you just couldn’t beat. A winner of winners,” Ella said.

“Something that I really admired about my dad was his motivation and drive.

“I remember him telling me that when he was a little boy, he promised himself that he would take his children all over the world, and that he did, and I will forever be grateful and cherish those moments we shared together.”

Ashleigh said that their dad was their soulmate, best friend and world.

“He made the impossible, possible,” she said.

“People saw him in so many different beautiful ways. He was everyone’s rock in a hard place, someone you could count on to be there no matter what or when.

“He would drop everything.”

Peter and Denise grew their business into what is known today as Gardian, one of Mackay’s biggest private-sector employers.

Despite his self-made success and passion for providing a family-oriented workplace for the Gardian team, Denise said that Peter’s generosity and caring nature are his greatest legacy.

“He was a fantastic father, a great businessman and a talented sportsman, but what I and many people love Pete for the most was his willingness to do anything for anyone.

“He would give you the shirt off his back.

“He was the first person to pick up the tab with a round of drinks and he just wanted others around him to also be happy and successful.

“That’s just the person he was.”

A couple of weeks after ANZAC Day in 2023, through some underlying medical issues, Denise said her husband’s body just went into a shutdown mode.

“I think he knew he wasn’t well that weekend.

“He was meant to go with us to Brisbane to get Ella’s graduation dress, but he stayed home.

“Pete’s mum dropped him off at the hospital and they just couldn’t get his pain to a level where it was ok, so they placed him in a medically induced coma to allow his body to heal, but he never came out of it.

10 | www.corelife.com.au

“We flew home to be with him and they did everything they could, but he never came out of that coma.”

Denise said that Pete struggled with anxiety and depression and his pride was such that he didn’t bother others.

“Giving back was just his way – it made him feel good. He had no judgement of others and was always saying ‘What’s normal anyway?’”

Denise said that Peter was such a giver that he rarely left much for himself. Looking back, she realises that Peter, who had been unwell following the removal of his gallbladder, had started

pulling away from people and work.

“It’s a reminder to tap people on the shoulder and ask them if they are ok, and to realise they may be pushing you away if they are hurting inside.

“Don’t give up on them.

“Because Pete didn’t give up on people, he was the first person to give someone a go, no matter who or where they came from.

“He was the least judgmental person I know and he thought very often and very deeply about so many things.”

Ry Collins Mayor Of Whitsunday Regional Council

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Ry Collins has hardly had time to put his feet under his desk, but the new Mayor has a clear strategic vision for our region.

In Mayor Ry’s words, “The road ahead will be marked by challenges, but with a united council, a strong collaborative vision, and an engaged community there is no limit to what we can achieve together.”

I am originally from South-East Queensland and have a post-graduate qualification in Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland and am also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Along with my wife Melanie and daughters Lola and Sophie, we moved to the Whitsundays in 2018 after many years of being returning tourists, drawn to the region’s enviable lifestyle, natural environment, and strong sense of community.

We currently live in Cannonvale and the family are invested members of local schools, sporting, and other groups.

I was previously the CEO of Bowen Gumlu Growers Association leading the Whitsunday’s $1billion agricultural sector while also volunteering on several key regional boards.

Throughout my career I have always prioritised supporting economic development and advocating for local businesses, fostering strong partnerships, and promoting innovation.

Key Priorities: My key priorities initially are engaging with all levels of government to advocate for a firm plan in addressing the road flooding issues at Hamilton Plains and Goorganga Plains which cause chaos for residents, visitors and our mining, agriculture, and tourism sectors.

My aim is to increase investment in regional economic development funded by Council’s commercial

activities and improved performances measures which will ensure we attract new investments that will create jobs for locals.

Developing an Advocacy Plan to maximise funding avenues from the Federal and State Governments is another priority in my first 100 days.

I am focused on driving positive change, addressing community needs, and creating opportunities for growth and prosperity across the Whitsunday region.

I commit to working closely with our key industries to diversify, creating new business opportunities and more local jobs, and promote innovation in energy, waste, and water management to enhance our region’s sustainability.

Community Engagement: I enjoy engaging with our diverse community and am passionate about making the Whitsunday region a great place to live, work and play.

During the election campaign I visited every corner of our region and heard from community leaders, local business owners, homeowners, the young and the elderly and those new to the Whitsundays who have fallen in love with our region and now call it home.

I also met with developers and investors ready with an appetite to seek out opportunities and transform spaces, seeking support, clarity and consistency in our decisions to ensure their ventures can thrive responsibly within our community.

The message was clear that there is a universal desire for local jobs, growth opportunities, safe and liveable communities, and a sustainable environment for future generations.

This diverse feedback has reinforced my belief that inclusive governance, one that is grounded in the community’s voices, respects and considers all perspectives, leads to the most thoughtful and effective decisions.

As your Mayor, I commit to continuing this dialogue, to listen to all points of view to deepen my understanding of every facet of our community’s needs and aspirations.

Vision for the Future: My vision as Mayor is one of sustainable growth, prosperity, and resilience for the Whitsunday region. I pledge to be the leading advocate for our community unlocking new opportunities and ensuring collective progress and growth for all.

As we look to this future, our vision, guided by the collective wisdom and aspirations of our community, should be to lead a council united in purpose. Together, we will represent and advocate for the interests of all residents across the region, championing a future where economic and social growth drives us toward a prosperous future for all.

Developing strong plans for future infrastructure development that will enhance the daily lives of our residents is key while sustainability remains at the core of our actions, protecting the natural beauty that defines the Whitsundays.

I will support a culture of accountability and innovation, prioritizing actions that deliver quality of life gains, making council operations transparent and community focused.

Importantly I will work closely with all levels of government to address affordable housing, enhancing healthcare, and supporting educational opportunities, ensuring every resident can thrive.

I am thankful for being entrusted with this honour as your Mayor and look forward to our journey together to ensure a positive and sustainable future for the Whitsunday region for many generations to come.

I am dedicated to working collaboratively to turn this vision into reality.

On 20 September 1921 Collinsville was officially renamed after Mayor Ry’s great great grandfather Charles Collins who was the Labor Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Bowen from 1915 to 1936. Charles Collins was first generation on my father’s side migrating from Warwickshire, England.

He was a coal miner and union representative before being elected as member for Bowen.

Bella And Broken Ballerina SWING AND SING FOR DV

Introducing Bella Mackenzie, an emerging Mackay local singer-songwriter, who is set to grace the stage at the upcoming Broken Ballerina Charity Golf Day on Friday, August 2nd.

Attendees will gather for a day filled with golf, camaraderie, and most importantly, support for Broken Ballerina Inc., a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to aiding survivors of domestic violence in the region.

Behind Broken Ballerina Inc., stands its founder, Jules Thompson, a woman of courage and dedication. Alongside her husband Pete, Jules works tirelessly, seven days a week, to assist individuals and families throughout Mackay and surrounding areas.

Bella’s highly anticipated performance at the event adds a layer of depth and entertainment, enhancing the day’s atmosphere with her heartfelt music and a primary focus on raising crucial funds to assist those in need within the community.

Bella’s song “She Don’t Walk Like That Anymore,” co-written with Steve Boom when she was just 16 years old resonates deeply with the hidden struggles of individuals and households affected by domestic violence.

Her musical journey began with mastering the guitar at 12 years of age, captivating audiences in local pubs and shocking those around her with her ability to reflect on causes close to her heart, including the fight against domestic violence.

In an exclusive interview, we spoke with Bella to uncover her point of view, in light of her involvement at the upcoming Broken Ballerina Inc. charity golf day event.

“I feel super strongly about the cause and it’s definitely one I’d like to support,” she said.

“As a young kid I was taught that everybody has their own struggles and you never know what’s going on in someone’s life.

“That topic came to mind when I wrote the song and it ties in with

domestic violence because you just never know what people are going through at home.”

As Bella graces the stage, her voice will become a vessel for the stories of survivors, echoing their resilience and determination to break free from the cycle of violence. The event offers attendees not only a day of golfing fun, but also an opportunity to contribute to a cause that Jules Thompson and a rally of community locals are so passionate about.

Bella emphasises that “you just never know what’s going on in someone’s world and they can have

the biggest smile on their face and be hurting the most they’ve ever hurt in their life so just be kind to everyone.”

Bella has new music coming out very soon and you can listen in on all digital streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple music and Google music etc.

If you would like to donate or find out more about the upcoming Broken Ballerina Charity Golf Day event, please visit Broken Ballerina Inc online or via Facebook.

Community & Entertainment
19-year-old Bella Mackenzie will play live at the Mackay Golf Club in honour of Broken Ballerina – a charitable organisation raising funds for survivors of domestic violence.

Country soul queen and revered Indigenous singer songwriter Emma Donovan has released her highly anticipated new album ‘Til My Song is Done’ and is celebrating with a national Australian tour.

‘Til My Song is Done’ is seen as a return home for Emma, getting back to the sounds of country and her creative and performing roots, conveying a musical journey from singing those big country numbers as a kid, to joining her family performing church songs at community funerals, to the kitbag of skills picked up her over later collaborations in funk, soul, and R&B.

Our Journalist Chelsea Ravizza got the opportunity to ask Emma a few questions about the new album and her upcoming tour.

What does having your new music recorded in Gumbaynggirr and Noongar languages mean to you as both an artist and an Indigenous woman yourself?

My newest solo album features a song sung in Gumbaynggirr. I translated ‘In The Sweet By &

By’ with the help of members of my Nambucca community. I try to translate a lot of tunes this way in language, it helps me learn it more myself.

I never grew up speaking the language, neither did my mother and her parents. It was my great grandparents that were fluent. It’s very empowering for my family to share our language and to share it with the wider Gumbaynggirr community as well. It’s my contribution to continue sharing language.

How did you begin your music career and find your passion for sharing traditional languages through your work?

I grew up in a very musical family thanks to my grandparents, my Mum and my uncles who all played music. I’m very lucky and grateful for my family who raised us knowing music is a key to our life.

I began listening to artists like Angélique Kidjo and Salif Keita when I was very young. I enjoyed listening to songs in languages that I didn’t understand. Later on, I listened to First Nations singer songwriters such as Frank Yamma and Christine

Anu. Yothu Yindi was also a huge inspiration for me to include language in my music. All these artists opened the doors for sharing Indigenous languages in music.

What do you hope for your audiences to take away from your upcoming shows?

Just joy, and for audiences to have a connection to my stories. I believe my songs have meaning and messages for all.

What are your future plans for your musical career and your passion for sharing traditional languages?

Sharing more, especially engaging in children’s songs & language. I didn’t have language growing up so I ensured that my own kids have the opportunity to hear and connect to my songs and story lines that share places and specific country that they have a connection to.

THE FOREFRONT OF BUSINESS BRANDING

EShirtFront Solutions Celebrates 15 Years

mblazoned on the colourful team shirts proudly worn by our local sporting teams, fashioned for striking work uniforms across multiple business sectors and adorning our adorable children as they head to school each day, you will have seen countless ShirtFront Solutions’ creations over the years, each of them playing a central part in the fabric of our community.

At the beating heart of business branding, every aspect of ShirtFront Solutions’ diverse services and product range is conducted from their friendly shopfront in Cannonvale. Whether it be an item of branded clothing or a piece of merchandise, the team can coordinate seamless and cohesive branding solutions that will make your small business, community club or even personal endeavour, pop!

Operated by well-known local couple, Kev Fancke and Kylie Allen, ShirtFront Solutions first began as a small screen-printing business 15 years ago. With 20 years of screen-printing background behind him prior to this, Kev knew he could devote this expertise to his own business. Meanwhile Kylie, a talented graphic designer, brought her creative passions to the table. Adept at business branding, she could provide stunning designs for her clients which were then printed by Kev and the Team on a multitude of fabrics and merchandise.

A perfect partnership soon unfolded.

Over the years the team has both expanded and evolved. They now employ five dedicated team members and are constantly investing in the future of the business, both by expanding their stock range and purchasing new equipment. Incorporating a dedicated embroiderer to the team marked a significant moment and, with high-tech in-house multi-head embroidery machines, ShirtFront Solutions can offer a quick, efficient and highquality local service for both garment creations and alterations.

And while the art of ‘old-school’ screen-printing is still very much relevant and utilised for specific jobs to this day, the methods by which ShirtFront Solutions can brand clothing has diversified over the years. Always staying abreast of the trends and eager to offer our regional community the most modern, high-tech services, Kev and Kylie are constantly reinvesting in the most up to date machinery.

Digital printing and transfers have become a popular offering, and the team are excited to soon welcome a new direct to film printing machine which will elevate their services to the next level. Previously, they had been outsourcing this to another Australiabased supplier, but with the ability to do this in-

house, they anticipate it will be a highly sought-after service.

At ShirtFront Solutions they offer so much more than many people realise – from branded pens to stubby holders, sunglass straps, and business cards to stickers – almost all your branding needs can be solved right here in the Whitsundays!

In addition, with every product comes over 30 years of experience in the industry. This means their personalised service includes a ton of free experience which can often save you money, hassle and time. Talk to one of their friendly team members and hear about the different options that could make your branding experience much more streamlined, engaging and ultimately more effective. Not only that, but you are supporting a local business who is actively giving back to the community with the sponsorship of several local sports clubs.

If you haven’t called into ShirtFront Solutions yet, then make sure you take a browse - the business is located at 17/3 Commerce Close, Cannonvale next to Tackleworld. Whether you are looking for new work uniforms, hi-vis PPE gear, team sport kits, kids school clothes or want to have a more in-depth chat about overall business branding or merchandise –they will have the perfect solution for you!

EMBROIDERY EXPERTISE

With Embroiderer Jennifer Horsford

Bringing with her over 60 years of sewing experience, Jenny started learning how to sew at a very young age from her mother who was a skilled tailoress. She can remember sitting under her mother’s feet for hours as a child, watching her sew and absorbing knowledge which she still uses to this day.

For many years, sewing was a much-loved hobby for Jenny, and one that led her to receive significant acclaim. An international prize winner, Jenny’s talent for quilt making has seen her receive worldwide appreciation.

It was just four years ago, however, that Jenny turned her hobby into a profession. Prior to this she worked within the schooling system, having risen in the ranks from teacher’s assistant to school registrar. After purchasing a domestic embroidery machine, however, she discovered a new and exciting avenue to explore. Harnessing her computer savvy knowledge from years in administration, Jenny became proficient in machine operation, and

GET YOUR TAX & SUPER SORTED

Last edition we talked about what having your finances organised looks like for different age groups. Where you should be at and what you should be thinking about and understanding across the different generations. This edition it’s about how to get your super sorted and why it is the queen on your wealth and tax chess board.

Did you know you can claim a tax deduction for putting up to $27,500 into your super this financial year? That means if you put say $10,000 into your super, you could get a refund in your personal tax return of up to $4,700 if you earn over $180,000 per annum. If you earn between $120,000 and $180,000 the tax refund could be $3,900. If you earn less than $250,000 the money is taxed at 15% on the way into your super fund so on $10,000 that’s $1,500. If you weigh it up, it’s like the government giving you an immediate return on that $10,000 investment of $3,200 or $2,400. That’s an immediate 32% or 24% and is on top of any actual interest it earns after that in the super fund. Even the interest it then earns in the super fund as it grows is only taxed at 15%. Effectively, you’ve got a big up front tax deduction to put some money into a low tax rate investment vehicle to fund a good

retirement lifestyle after age 60, that’s smart.

As always, the devil is in the detail so get some advice. The $27,500 is the current annual cap on tax deductible contributions but remember these include the compulsory super your boss pays in. From 1st July that annual cap goes to $30,000 for the new financial year. If you super balance is under $500,000, you may also have the option to make ‘Catch Up Contributions’. This allows you to make up for the last 5 years unused contribution cap. I.e. if you’ve only had $10,000 go in per year the extra, unused $17,500 carries forward and you could make a huge contribution in one year. Your accountant can run a simple ATO report showing what you’ve got available in catch up contributions or you can get it from your MyGov if you have the ATO linked. The catch-up rules only go back 5 years, so as of 1st July 2024, any unused cap from the 2018 Financial Year drops off. You should at least consider catching that up before 30th June, or it’s gone.

Working the tax benefits of super is especially important for self-employed people who often neglect their super as it’s not compulsory for them. This can come back to haunt them in retirement when they compare their wealth with

their mates who’ve been employee at retirement. One has regular contributions going into their super and growing for decades and the other often misses deadlines and neglects their super because they’re too busy running their business.

The key to making big financial decisions, just like making a big purchase, is doing your homework. You wouldn’t buy a car, boat or caravan without some research. How much is your boss paying in? What about Salary Sacrifice? What is your unused carried forward allowance? Are you confident your existing super fund is good value and is getting a good return? These are the sort of things that financial planners will work out, often with the assistance of your accountant. They should also provide some guidance around the right investment choice within your existing super or recommend a better type of super fund if required. Broadly there are Industry Supers, Retail Supers and Self-Managed Supers and different types suit different balances and investment objectives.

Start the conversation now so you have time to make a good decision before 30th June. Plenty of people get caught each year by leaving it too late.

For a free consultation with local people who understand the complexities of these or any other financial matter, contact Eclipse Financial Planning at Cannonvale on 49467359 today or visit www.eclipsefp.com

Tell Us Something Most People Don’t Know About You: I’m a mum of three

A country girl at heart, Stephanie Marie was born in Dysart and grew-up in mining towns before moving to Mackay 20 years ago.

During her extensive career, Stephanie worked in several high-end salons in the Sunshine Coast, where she developed a passion for quality workmanship and service.

This experience led Stephanie to start her own salon in Mackay, uniting the skills and natural talent she’s harnessed over the years. The business’ goal is for every client to experience indulgent services in a luxury environment.

Dedicated to pampering hard-working mums and busy women that need a break, Stephanie has created a blissful sanctuary, a place to escape and regenerate. She understands that a woman’s biggest challenge can be finding balance in life, often experiencing it herself as she juggles being creative director, mum, wife, and female business owner.

Through her hair salon, Stephanie endeavours to support other women, giving them a calm and invigorating space where they can connect with themselves again.

Stephanie is a master in colouring and has specialised in lived-in colours and colour transformations, intuitively understanding the tone, tint and style that her clients are seeking.

As busy at home as she is at work, Stephanie often finds herself being a taxi for her three children on the weekend. Where possible she also loves taking the opportunity to get away on trips with her family. Her husband is English, and they regularly take family trips to England to see his family. When not with her family she loves having nights out with her girls.

The JoyMaker Experience

Step into a realm where joy is the guiding light, where connections flourish, and empowerment thrives. With the JoyMaker Experience just around the corner, get ready for a transformative journey towards renewed joy, connection, cohesion, and empowerment.

Meet Christine Denny, affectionately known as The Joy Maker. For her, spreading happiness, support, collaboration, and pride in workplaces and communities is not just a passion but a calling. Recognising the pervasive sense of burnout and stress in today’s corporate sector, Christine is determined to inject workplaces with a fresh dose of positivity and connection.

“I’ve seen too many workplaces struggling with burnout and disconnection,” Christine explains.

“I believe that culture and connection are key to unlocking the full potential of any team.”

As a former resident of Mackay, Christine holds a special connection to the area and is thrilled to bring The Joy Maker Experience back to her hometown. Having made a name for herself as a tap dance specialist and the creator of the national Tap Dance Curriculum, Tapatak Oz, Christine is no stranger to choreographing a captivating show. However, with a growing concern for the rising rates of depression, anxiety, burnout, and overwhelm across Australia, Christine has shifted her focus to her latest passion project, The Joy Maker Experience. Returning to Mackay with this transformative initiative, Christine is determined to spread happiness, support, and empowerment throughout her community and beyond.

Through the JoyMaker Experience, Christine offers a unique blend of creativity and empowerment, providing teams with the rest, realignment, and rejuvenation they need to thrive.

“Your staff need a little rest, realignment, and rejuvenation to optimise their creativity,” she emphasises.

“And

connectivity, imagination, and creativity are paramount for your employees and managers to get the lift they need to refill their tanks and perform.”

Drawing from her thirty-five years of experience mentoring teachers and students in the arts, Christine brings her expertise to a broader audience, spreading the positive power of joymaking far and wide, with these intimate one-day retreats, open to all!

Recent testimonials attest to the effectiveness of Christine’s approach. Peter Ferreira, a professional facilitator, praises Christine’s energy, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with her audience.

“All I can say is that Christine and her Joy Maker Experience exceeded all my expectations,” he said. “Her energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and ability to connect with the audience was outstanding.”

Participants at the Cecchetti Ballet Conference share their experiences of emotional release and pride in their work after engaging with the JoyMaker Experience.

“An interesting roller-coaster of emotions,” reflects Rebecca. “I didn’t realise I was holding onto so much.”

Shona also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reflect and feel proud of her achievements. “The Joy Maker Experience was so refreshing. It gave me time to reflect and feel proud of what I do.”

In this empowering one-day seminar, attendees will embark on a life-changing journey, guided by experiential activities designed to unlock their full potential and foster personal growth. From uncovering their unique set of values and guiding principles to learning how to align their lives with these core beliefs, participants will gain invaluable insights into living a purpose-driven life.

If you can’t make it to the Mackay presentation, Christine can bring the JoyMaker Experience to your organisation, aiming to make a tangible difference in cohesion, creativity, culture, and overall joy.

“As The Joy Maker, I’m dedicated to spreading happiness and empowerment wherever I go,” Christine affirms.

“Let’s make joy our reality!”

distribution of essential supplies to remote island communities in the South Pacific. From sporting goods to medical supplies, these donations provide much-needed support and solidarity, bridging the gap between communities and fostering a sense of global responsibility.

Coral Sea Marina's commitment to education and engagement is exemplified by the Coral Sea Academy, an innovative platform designed to connect people with the wonders of the Whitsundays. Through digital expansion, the Academy offers enriching experiences, from virtual tours to educational resources, ensuring that visitors can immerse themselves in the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage.

But perhaps the true magic of Coral Sea Marina lies in its atmosphere—a vibrant tapestry of sights, sounds, and sensations that captivates the senses and ignites the spirit. From the moment you set foot in the marina, you're enveloped in a sense of wonder and possibility. The waterfront pathways, shaded meeting areas, and lush marina gardens beckon you to pause and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.

For boat owners, Coral Sea Marina offers a premium range of shore-based facilities and services, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience. From world-class berthing facilities to attentive

guest services, every aspect of the marina is designed to exceed expectations and provide a home away from home.

For visitors, Coral Sea Marina is a gateway to adventure and discovery. Whether you're embarking on a day tour to explore the Whitsunday Islands or chartering your own vessel for a week-long odyssey, the possibilities are endless. Thrill-seekers can indulge in jet ski rides or scenic helicopter flights, while those seeking relaxation can simply watch the boats go by with a drink in hand.

And let's not forget the culinary delights that await at Coral Sea Marina's array of cafes, restaurants, and bistros. From waterfront dining to sunset cocktails, each venue offers a tantalising array of flavours and experiences to savour. Live music and vibrant ambience add to the allure, creating the perfect setting for unforgettable moments with loved ones.

This is where you discover that Coral Sea Marina is more than a marina.

It’s a sanctuary of serenity and a hub for excitement where dreams are realised and memories are made.

With so many award-winning businesses calling Coral Sea Marina home, it really has become the tourism mecca of Airlie Beach, and the ultimate base from which to explore the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef.

It’s time to celebrate sunsets, sea views and decadent dining with two of the best local Whitsundays’ restaurants both marking five years in business this year. The iconic Italian inspired eatery, Sorrento’s, and the enchanting Garden Bar, both located at Coral Sea Marina, and both owned by the same family, are popular with locals and tourists alike.

In April, Sorrento Restaurant and Bar reached its five-year milestone and it was time for owners, husband and wife Iyas and Mandy, and sister Penny to reflect back on how far the business had come. The renovation of the Ocean Deck was a highlight, enabling Sorrento’s to welcome guests for an à la carte dining experience with ultimate uninterrupted 180-degree waterfront views of the Coral Sea. This newly upgraded space also opened opportunities to offer a function space which has become popular for

everything from weddings to events. Over the years, awards have also been won including 2nd place at the Australian Wedding Industry Awards (1st in The Whitsundays/Mackay) this year and 5 Star Certificates of Excellence four years running, Best of Qld Experience Program and Best Italian Restaurant.

While the upstairs Ocean Deck is a refined dining experience, the downstairs bar area offers a more casual atmosphere where stunning views of the Whitsundays are accompanied by live acoustic music daily.

The Garden Bar, located just a short stroll from Sorrento’s overlooking the Marina’s super yachts, offers a similar high standard of delicious cuisine, stunning sunsets, marina views and vibrant atmosphere, but with its own

unique twist. This venue, which was featured on Jetstar, celebrates five years in November. Since the family took over they have completely transformed the menu, provided casual, intimate dining and also expanded to offer function spaces, specialising in group bookings and now offering Weddings in The Garden.

A contemporary cocktail bar set right on the waterfront, Garden Bar offers fresh, signature cocktails and a simple yet superb menu infused with influences from across the globe. Blending comfortable seating and stylish design, lush tropical greenery and incredible marina views, Garden Bar is simply a special venue.

Iyas, Mandy and Penny would like to thank the Coral Sea Marina for their constant support, as well as the venues long term Managers, Chefs and Staff; it’s a team effort.

Observed on 18 May every year, International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) International Day for Women in Maritime celebrates and recognises women in maritime, with this year's theme "Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety".

As a multi award-winning, high standard marine operator, Ocean Rafting has been showcasing the Whitsundays for 27 years, always with women at the helm, so to speak, in some shape or form.

International Day for Women in Maritime celebrates women in the industry and is intended to promote the recruitment, retention and sustained employment of women in the maritime sector, raise the profile of women in maritime, strengthen IMO's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime.

Owned by long-term locals, Peter and Jan Claxton, not only is Ocean Rafting 50% female owned, but the ratio of female staff to male staff stands at 58% to 42% respectively.

From Skippers, Eco Hosts and Master Reef Guides to Front Office, Accounts, Sales and Marketing, Groups, Catering, HR and Maintenance, females are peppered throughout Ocean Rafting’s core structure.

“Our ratios are very complimentary, which creates a dynamic and gender equal workplace, where support and encouragement for growth and development is strongly supported at all levels of employment,” said Jan.

“We promote internally and truly believe it is based on the individual’s personality, performance, passion and desire for growth. This mindset has allowed us to support the personal development of our female staff, who work with us in both shore-based and sea-going posts.

“Our structure and values reflect a strong culture of gender equality, and we are proud to support women with their unique capabilities. It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of all our staff,” said Jan.

Once upon a time, in the bustling realm of business in Mackay, there existed a tale as old as time – the story of a beauty and a beast of industry. In this enchanting fairytale, two proprietors, Nadine Becker and Frank Attard, each reign over their own kingdoms of commerce.

Nadine, the enchantress of elegance, presides over Ella Bache, a salon renowned for its indulgent offerings and meticulous attention to detail. From the ethereal glow of laser treatments to the delicate skill of designer brows and lashes, Nadine’s realm is a haven of relaxation and refinement. Nadine herself is preparing to study the fine art of brow tattooing adding to the magical menagerie of beauty treatments available.

Meanwhile, across the enchanted lands of Paget, Frank stands as the formidable guardian of Key Solutions Group. A titan in the field of innovation and ingenuity, Key Solutions reigns supreme as the cornerstone of engineering excellence. With its mighty facilities in Mackay boasting colossal crane capacities and sprawling laydown areas to test major equipment, Key Solutions stands ready to conquer any challenge that crosses its path.

Evolving over the years to meet the needs of its clients, KSG acquired Ralph Builders last year to form KSG Civil & Construction to complement the business’ existing engineering, structural and mechanical capabilities. KSG has also merged recently with Mackay Electrical to form KSG Electrical. In parallel, the emergence of augmented reality, AI and robotics has seen KSG implement a number of cutting-edge processes. The arrival of welding robots will increase productivity and give the KSG team advanced skills.

So, how did it come to be that a beast of industry and a Queen of beauty fell in love?

We sat down with the couple to find out!

How did you meet?

“I used to work in the car industry,” Nadine said.

“He took me for a coffee and a walk we chatted for what felt like minutes but was in fact hours.”

With your businesses being in very different industries, what commonalities do you talk about?

“All of our organisations are driven by solid relationships and community involvement,” Frank said.

“We also will talk about ideas to innovate whether it be in Beauty or Industry.”

We hear you are getting married soon, any hints on location? Nadine laughed, “Sorry family and friends, no spoiler alerts!

“We are looking forward to having a beautiful relaxed day with our children, family and close friends.

“Marrying my best friend will truly be beautiful no matter where or how.”

Outside of business talk, what other passions do you share?

“Our children,” Frank said, “We both love supporting them, being around them and their interests.

“We also love to get to the beach and reef and do some fishing with the family. Nadine and I also go to the gym together daily.”

Tell us a bit about your family?

Frank is the oldest of 7, I myself am the youngest of 7 - and in our family, we have 7 children,” Nadine said.

“We are a very close family we have been so lucky to have such beautiful kind and hard-working kids. We really are so blessed.

The Deli Nook

Highschool sweethearts and power couple, Patrice and Simon ventured into their entrepreneurial journey together in 2016 when they introduced grazing table and platter boxes to the Mackay region with the inception of Plattered Up.

Specialising in all thing’s platter, Plattered Up quickly gained popularity, with customers often enquiring about the local availability of the items featured in their creations.

Recognising an opportunity to broaden their horizons, the couple embraced the challenge and launched The Deli Nook in 2019. Building on their expertise in crafting delicious cheese platters, meats and accompaniments, they infused their passion into every aspect of the deli’s offerings. Their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction shaped The Deli Nook’s evolution, as they listened attentively to feedback and fine-tuned their selections to cater to diverse tastes.

Uniquely, they also have ready-made platter boxes in store, to take home or to a friend’s place for drinks.

Beyond platters, The Deli Nook serves as what they like to call a ‘foodie haven’, offering gourmet hampers with specialty deli items, the best cheeses and deli items from Australia and around the world, platter boards, cheese knives, cookbooks and more. Corporate gifting is also a significant aspect of their business, with customised hampers tailored to suit clients’ requirements.

The couple describe their establishment as quirky, fun and above all, a community hub.

The Deli Nook invites you to not only stop by for coffee, but engage in conversations, share stories and build connections with an enveloped sense of belonging.

BREWING SUCCESS

Jaymee and Chris Anderson Jamaica Blue, Caneland Central

Coffee enthusiasts and food connoisseurs, rejoice!

The highly anticipated return of Jamaica Blue to Caneland Central Shopping Centre is just around the corner, with the grand re-opening set for June 7th, 2024. Situated in its familiar spot downstairs from Snap Fitness, the cafe promises to deliver a fresh wave of flavours and experiences to those who love to sip and savour.

The dynamic duo bringing Jamaica Blue back to Canelands is Chris and Jaymee Anderson, the caffeinated crusaders with a passion for quality coffee as rich as their love story.

Chris and Jaymee’s story began with a chance meeting orchestrated by mutual friends in 2011. Since then, their bond has only grown stronger. Now, celebrating six years of marriage with two adorable children in tow, they’re not just partners in life but also in business, ready to brew success with Jamaica Blue’s grand re-opening.

Growing up in Moranbah and working in mining and health, the couple had been searching for an opportunity for a fresh start where they could turn a passion into a career.

“Owning a cafe was something we always wanted to do,” Jaymee said.

“We’ve always loved the Jamaica Blue brand, the coffee and food and the Caneland cafe was our favourite spot.

“We had already decided to purchase a Jamaica Blue at another location when the Caneland cafe became available, and everything just fell into place.”

Amidst the buzz of the re-opening, there’s plenty to look forward to.

From a delicious Hot N’ Spicy menu running this quarter to an enticing loyalty program, Jamaica Blue is pulling out all the stops to make this occasion memorable. When you register online, with every $30 spent customers can enjoy a complimentary coffee and, wait for it, a slice of cake during their birthday month!

But it’s not just about the treats;

the revamped cafe boasts a modern contemporary aesthetic, blending clean lines, bold prints, and calming colours to create an inviting ambience. The outdoor seating area also provides an additional haven for patrons, ensuring there’s always room available to unwind and relish their favourite brew.

Outside of their shared love for coffee, Chris, with his background as an ex-QRL Referee, has made a lasting impact on the field, dedicating years from high school until 2018 to the sport. In 2018, his contributions were honoured with The Chris Anderson Award for Junior Referee of the Year, in recognition of his dedication.

Jaymee is all about spreading awareness for Spina Bifida and throwing awesome small parties.

Plus, she’s a total bookworm, finding joy in getting lost in a good read. And when footy season rolls around, she’s lucky her whole family backs the Broncos too, so there’s no clashing over teams!

As the grand re-opening of Jamaica Blue draws near, Chris and Jaymee are not just serving coffee; they’re crafting an experience, one that resonates with their shared values of community, quality, and warmth.

So mark your calendars and prepare your palates, because the return of Jamaica Blue is set to be a brew-tiful affair that’s not to be missed!

PURE FOOD, RICH HEART

With Hayley And Paul From Airlie Health Hub

The purity of nature, the goodness of the garden and the simplicity of supplying fresh, healthy organic produce. The natural cycle of our precious planet seems to work best with the authentic flow of ethically sourced produce, and this growing trend captures a spirit of consumerism that humbles its origins and connects with the land.

Two individuals who are bringing us ‘back to scratch’ and re-setting the way we shop are Hayley and Paul Moran. This inspiring local couple have, for the past two and a half years, been steadily nurturing a community of people who like to shop with meaning and show care in the way they consume everyday items. Airlie Health Hub has encouraged people to ask where products come from, consider how they are sourced and learn how they impact the world around them. By doing so, they have created both a vibrant health food shop and a growing movement of deeply caring consumers.

Hayley recalls growing up in the Sunshine Coast where she was fortunate to live in an area of primary producers, “the milkman lived down the road, when we wanted honey, we went to the honey lady and it was never about supermarkets, it was all about supporting the small businesses and going to Farmer’s Markets.”

When she arrived in Airlie Beach 16 years ago, she

was amazed to see this culture did not exist here in the Whitsundays. Determined to enact change within her own community she waited patiently until the time was right to create the dream of bringing fresh organic produce to the community.

Meeting Paul 11 years ago while they both worked in tourism, the couple have been married for five years and now love nothing more than running the business together. They take pride in forming friendships with local suppliers and they frequently head out to local farms where they enjoy interacting with the animals and helping to pull beautiful fresh produce out of the ground. These incredible local supplies are then brought straight to Airlie Health Hub where they are placed directly onto the shelves.

“Most of our customers who buy the food also know the farmers, as we always say ‘know your farmer, know your food’ – everyone can see where it comes from and who grows it,” explains Paul.

Excited to be welcoming in a new season of fresh produce such as local melons, pumpkins, capsicums and mushrooms, Paul and Hayley are humbled to help educate as well as change the way people choose to purchase their food and general household items. Inside their Cannonvale store, customers are welcomed into a fresh, bright and invigorating setting where every item has been

carefully displayed to look both appealing and easy to browse. Organic pastas, grains, rice, flours and other dry goods are stored in clear class jars and customers are encouraged to bring their own jars or paper bag to fill up their own supplies.

At the heart of the store is the abundant fresh organic produce, a colourful centrepiece with the season’s ripest and most flavoursome fruit and veggies. To the back of the stores lies the pantry items and chemical free cleaning products. And to the side, you will find the popular Coffee Bar which serves organic coffee and locally sourced milk.

Embodying the culture of their business, Paul and Hayley are passionate advocates who love nothing more than to chat with customers and inspire a conscious community of healthy individuals who are all drawn to their central hub.

How do you work best as a couple: We work as a team doing it Hayley’s way!

Dedicated to people ‘who don’t like gyms’, EvoPrime offers a private and personalised service that allows for discretion, promotes self-belief and makes incredible transformations come true. By following a custom-designed fitness plan just three times a week, major life changes have occurred – injuries are healed and movement is restored.

Husband and wife team, Matt and Ash Lade, are the driving force behind this ground-breaking local fitness offering. They both bring their individual experiences to the genesis of this program which started back at the business’ inception in 2014. A keen rugby league player, Matt broke his ankle just two weeks before a grand final and was told he may never play again. The founder of EvoPrime, Jan Hutnan, asked him to follow a specific plan and by doing so, Matt was able to make a full recovery in time for the start of the next season.

Meanwhile, Ash has her own story to share. A self-confessed gymjunkie, she was heading to the gym seven days a week, but never getting the results she craved. Upon meeting Jan, Ash followed his program and when she reduced her workout to three times a week, the results were incredible. In fact, they compelled Ash to follow her own dreams of becoming a Personal Trainer and pursuing a career in fitness. She joined forces with Jan and has been operating the business for the past nine years. In 2019, Matt and Ash decided to officially purchase EvoPrime, and have not looked back since.

“It’s not just about performance, it’s about longevity,” said Matt. “We meet people who have been everywhere – to doctors and physios – and they’re not getting the relief or the results. By teaching them the tools to do it themselves, we give them accountability and growth.”

“That’s our big thing – we teach people to work smarter not harder,” added Ash. “We teach our clients everything they need to know so they can do it at home, they can keep progressing and use what they’ve learnt as maintenance, so they build daily habits.”

“We meet people who can’t reach down and tie their own shoelaces or haven’t been able to jump up a step for years – they are amazed how quickly they can re-learn these skills – the only reason people can’t do these things is because they’ve stopped doing them!”

Matt and Ash teach with a holistic approach, they train the connective tissue, the nervous system, the brain function – the whole framework to create space in the body where mobility, strength and dynamic performance thrive.

Offering intimate group classes with a maximum of 10 participants, EvoPrime provide three tiers of club memberships, each with their own level of assistance. Choose between a Personalised Trainer and dedicated progress plan or go for the slightly less structured lifestyle classes. There is something for everyone at EvoPrime. They also offer life coaching and are proud suppliers of DoTerra.

Operating from their brand-new dedicated training studio at 1064 Shute Harbour Road at Mt Marlow, Matt and Ash’s dream of transcending the way we do fitness has come true, and they invite you to join them in this journey.

Best thing about working together?

We are so different, Ash is more about education and I am more about the practical side.

Worst thing about working together? Also, that we are so different!

EMPOWERING YOU

With Zenny Godden From Athletica

Lift like a queen, shine like a goddess and feel empowerment with every rep.

That’s the veracious vibe you’ll find at Athletica, Mackay’s femme fitness phenomenon.

With her 7-month-old daughter Sylvie in tow, Athletica founder Zenny Godden isn’t just a gym owner; she’s a powerhouse of inspiration, seamlessly blending motherhood with entrepreneurial prowess.

Athletica isn’t your average gym; it’s a testament to Zenny’s powerful passion for women’s wellness, one punch or press-up at a time. Drawing on her legacy with Zenergy and Femnasium, Zenny re-branded Femnasium into Athletica in 2020 into a vibrant fitness hub where women of all walks of life gather to sweat, support, and thrive.

It’s a place where you’ll feel the energy pulsating—a symphony of determination, camaraderie, and empowerment. Here, every kettlebell swing, every yoga pose, and every high-intensity interval echoes Zenny’s mission: to sculpt not just bodies, but minds and spirits too.

She loves a laugh and will be the first to admit that she can be awkwardly goofy, but with the way she commands a class you’d never know she suffers from social anxiety.

With a firm belief that there’s a gym for everyone, Zenny envisioned Athletica as more than just a place to work out, but also a community where women of all backgrounds and fitness levels can feel comfortable and empowered.

“I want people to know they can feel comfortable walking into Athletica,” she said.

“We all started somewhere and if I can help the next woman that walks through my door leave feeling great about herself, then that’s what we’re about.”

The all-women environment fosters a sense of companionship and support, making it less intimidating for women to kickstart their fitness journey without fear of judgment.

Zenny’s personal journey as a new mother, fuels her passion for supporting other women through every stage of life. Through her own experiences, she recognised the lack of resources and support for new mums in the fitness realm, which is why Zenny is committed to breaking down outdated beliefs surrounding pregnancy and postpartum fitness. Through Athletica’s mums and bubs classes and nutritional guidance, Zenny empowers women both during and after pregnancy.

“I feel like there is a lot missing in this space and it’s one reason why I’m so passionate about our mums and bubs classes and helping women continue to train throughout their pregnancy,” Zenny said.

Its popular mums and bubs class is where mothers can exercise freely with their little ones. Offering a creche service and the option to bring babies into the gym, Athletica supports mothers in prioritising their health and well-being without sacrificing time with their children.

“I believe we are the example we set for our children,” Zenny added.

Offering round-the-clock access, Athletica caters to your busy schedules, providing the flexibility needed to prioritise fitness amidst life’s demands. With over 40 classes per week, including weights, HIIT, yoga and Pilates, Athletica has something for all levels of fitness enthusiasts.

Intertwined with her personal fitness endeavours, Zenny is also a qualified nutritionist and owner of Healthy Ambition. With this knowledge up her sleeve, it allows her to integrate nutrition education seamlessly into Athletica’s offerings, providing women with a comprehensive approach to health and wellness all in one place.

Beyond her role as a fitness entrepreneur, Zenny is a devoted mother to her daughter, Sylvie, and a proud “goat mum” to her mini farm.

Athletica embodies empowerment and inclusivity, where women can come together to nourish not just their body, but mind and spirit also.

BRINGING THE SCIENCE INTO NATURAL MEDICINE With Rowena Kissun From Kissun Clinics

Rowena Kissun, owner of Kissun Clinics has been offering her expertise in both Medical Science and Naturopathy for over 16 years in the Whitsundays. Her clinic services have expanded to Mackay, Sydney and Adelaide, with fully accessible services and testing now available over Telehealth and in laboratories throughout Australia.

Born and raised in country, NSW, Rowena studied Medical Sciences in Sydney (University of Western Sydney) and Herbal Medicine (Naturopathy) in Armidale (University of New England), followed by further study overseas. Integrating the science of the human body with functional pathology testing is Rowena’s forte. She has a keen interest in finding solutions that are natural, potent, scientifically verified and readily available, especially to her regional clients.

Kissun Clinics employs two Naturopaths, an Acupuncturist, two Health Consultants and a Registered IV Nurse. The clinic also liaises with two GP’s in both Brisbane and Adelaide.

Rowena’s ultimate goal is to investigate and understand the root cause of a person’s health concern. To do this involves thorough conversation, followed by pathology testing then a practical plan for the patient to follow.

Rowena, tell us about growing up, and how you got into Natural Medicine?

Growing up in a tiny town watching my mum and dad run medical centres and pharmacies in rural areas around Rylstone and Mudgee NSW had me immersed in healthcare since I was a baby. Intellectual curiosity about the human body led me to choosing a career in health care, but with a twist. I have a huge respect for health care practitioners from all modalities. Everything has its place. We need pharmaceuticals just as much as we need a healthy diet and access to good quality natural medicine. Healthcare can be very expensive, and it is wonderful to see clients aim to prevent illness by adopting healthy practices before illness occurs.

We would love to hear about your journey with Kissun Clinics and how it has evolved?

Having Kissun Clinics for over 16 years, I have watched natural medicine change so much. My education and experience allows me to wear numerous hats when I am listening to my patient’s story. My interest lay in learning more about oncology, hormone balance, chronic fatigue and the effect of the microbiome on a person’s health.

What’s the best health advice you have ever been given?

My parents are constantly giving me health advice, and it always centres around whole food eating, growing your own veggies and staying away from packaged food. I completely agree with them. I don’t believe in diets. When clients ask me how to eat healthy, we always go back to the basics that my parents follow to this day. By focusing on unprocessed, nourishing foods, you’re giving your body the building blocks for optimal health and providing a shield against illness. Whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants vital for cellular function and disease protection.

What is the most effective health product?

This might sound strange, but even though I work with prescriptive vitamins and IV nutrients which are both incredible, I would have to say the one thing I notice time and time again which benefits our health the most is our mindset. Achieving health goals is simply easier and more attainable when we start with a positive mindset. If you have the frame of mind that you are a victim of life’s circumstances, I believe this really makes things hard. I spend a lot of time in my office coaching my clients into believing that their body has an inherent ability to heal. The connection between mental and physical well-being is undeniable, and it is certainly something we should all think about, if we have a health issue we are trying to resolve.

Wellness isn’t just a buzzword - the vibrant pulse fuels the practice.

Raised on a sugar cane farm just outside of Mackay, Dr Kippen’s interest in health and fitness grew from an early age. Inspired by personally witnessing the transformative power of chiropractic treatments herself, she embarked on a path to move to Perth to study Chiropractic.

Now, with over 14 years of experience maximising movement & prioritising health & well-being for her patients in Mackay, Dr. Kippen is the owner of Move It Chiropractic, bringing a new era of compassionate chiropractic care to Mackay. She has transformed the practice at 19 Gordon Street (corner of Carlyle) with a blend of traditional wisdom and modern innovation. She has been at this same location for 14 years while the building itself has been a chiropractic centre for more than 30 years.

“The rebranding to ‘Move It Chiropractic’ embodies our philosophy perfectly— it’s about more than just adjustments; it’s about empowering our patients to move freely and live life to the fullest,” Dr. Kippen said.

From the tiniest newborns to the wisest of seniors, Move It Chiropractic welcomes & encourages patients of all ages and abilities. Dr Kippen utilises a variety of techniques to suit each patient regardless of their age or circumstance, she finds the right technique that fits the person. Whether it’s infants to promote the healthy development of the nervous system, help with pregnancy wellness, care for women after the strain of childbirth, specialised rehabilitation treatment for athletes seeking peak performance or for those more senior that want to move more freely and without pain. Every individual receives a tailored care plan specific to their diagnosis and goals.

“Women often prioritise the well-being of their families over their own, but neglecting their health can have long-term consequences,” Dr. Kippen added.

“From lower back discomfort post-birth to persistent headaches and digestive issues, women often dismiss these symptoms as part of daily life. However, they can be indicators of underlying issues that need attention.”

Dr. Kippen’s journey as a chiropractor and mother is a testament to the delicate dance of life balance. With two children, her days are a whirlwind of school and day-care prep, gymnastics, swimming & soccer, balanced with her own fitness goals and business responsibilities.

Behind the scenes of her bustling clinic, Dr. Kippen’s husband plays a pivotal role, sharing the responsibilities of parenthood with equal fervour.

“Teamwork makes the dream work,” she said, allowing Dr. Kippen the ability to have a work/ life balance.

“His contribution has been immeasurable, juggling his aspirations to ensure our children and my practice thrive. I couldn’t do it without him,” she said.

In a world where “surviving” often takes precedence over thriving, Dr. Kippen and the team at Move It Chiropractic are on a mission to change the narrative.

By providing compassionate care, fostering meaningful connections, and empowering & educating individuals to embrace their full potential, they’re not just helping people move better— they’re helping them live better, one adjustment at a time.

A YOUTHFUL GLOW

With Kristen From Glo Aesthetics & Co

Harnessing a youthful glow, no matter your age, can be challenging when navigating a busy and stressful life where fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation gradually appear over time. Fortunately, the facial aesthetic treatments at Glo Aesthetics in Airlie Beach, are known to create incredible natural results where your skin goals become a reality and the fresh spark you hold inside, transcends to a full body bloom.

After giving birth to her first child, Kristen Mackenzie noticed how sleep deprivation was affecting her skin texture and how small lines were starting to form on her face. Eager to get ahead of the ageing process, she decided to explore the beauty

options available and was excited by the range of treatments she could see on offer. Gone are the days of fake looking fixes, Kristen’s mind was opened to natural looking aesthetic solutions where skin health is front of mind.

A Registered Nurse, who grew up on a cattle property in Kuttabul, Kristen had been working at the Proserpine Hospital General Ward and Emergency Department for several years, when she felt a calling to enter into the inspiring world of aesthetics. She could see how her skills and talents could be used to help positively impact both men and women’s lives with simple, subtle and affordable procedures. Kristen went on to undertake further specialty training in facial aesthetics, where she gained the knowledge she needed to progress in the industry, leading her to open Glo Aesthetics in November last year.

This discreet and welcoming clinic, nestled among other beauty services in Airlie Beach, invites women and men of all ages to come in and explore the options available to them. Here, Kristen offers personalised aesthetic treatments targeting anti-

ageing and skin rejuvenation. Each product has been sourced for its high quality and natural look, to give the assurance that your beauty desires will be delivered.

Customers are invited to come in for a complimentary consultation where Kristen can offer advice and share her knowledge about treatments that suit your needs best.

“I saw the need for affordable aesthetic treatments in the Whitsundays which were high quality and natural looking,” she explains. “My client’s outcome is as important to them as it is to me, I really respect their investment and will always deliver the highest quality.”

Your journey with Glo will begin with a thorough medical consultation; including full facial analysis, a discussion highlighting your individual concerns and finally a treatment plan will be devised to help you best reach your skin goals. You are invited to relax in the soft and comfortable treatment room where you can unwind on the luxurious chair and receive your aesthetic treatment. Within a short amount of time you will be back out into the world feeling fresher, livelier and more youthful.

“It’s so natural that people won’t even know you’ve had it,” shares Kristen. “People just get complements that they are looking more youthful and glowing!”

While Glo Aesthetics specialises in medical aesthetics, the broader clinic space is expanding to incorporate more beauty services. Jess Templeman owner of KOKO Brow + Skin, offers high quality beauty treatments with the space focusing on cosmetic tattooing and a variety of other beauty services. With a range of growing treatments available, Glo Aesthetics is leading the way in the local beauty offering, providing a collaborative, holistic and natural range of treatments to discerning clients.

For you, For them, For home

With Romina From Saloon SMP HAIR FOR GOOD

Bringing both the sass and the style of Melbourne to the region, Romina is quietly revolutionising a niche area of the beauty industry here in the Whitsundays by using the art of Scalp Micropigmentation. Giving renewed confidence and freedom to her clients, this ground-breaking procedure provides practical and affordable solutions for people living with patterned baldness, thinning or alopecia. One of the only fully qualified SMP Practitioners in the wider region, clients are flocking to Romina for this exciting new way to mimic hair re-growth.

Simple, relatively pain-free and completely effective Saloon SMP works by using a similar technique to tattooing to replicate the hair follicles on your scalp. Romina will exactly colour-match the pigment with your hair colour and skin tone and tattoo life-like looking hair follicles on your scalp reducing the contrast between visible scalp and missing hair follicles. It is also an effective unisex hair loss solution for those who are thinning and wanting thicker looking hair.

“It non-surgical, non-invasive, and it has guaranteed results,” explained Romina.

“SMP uses organic pigments designed specifically for this treatment making it safe for the scalp. The treatment will give instant results after your first treatment and can last up to 10 years.”

Noticing a gap in the market for this service while managing a group of barber shops and running a barbering academy in Melbourne, Romina met a lot of men and women who had experienced distressing failed attempts at finding solutions for their receding hairlines and thinning hair.

“I met many people who had failed and expensive hair transplants and Platelet-Rich Plasma treatments, some left with obvious scars, or found the procedures painful and invasive. This is why I love SMP so much and strongly endorse people to learn more about it as a hair loss solution – it’s affordable, pain-free, instant, and low maintenance. Because, truth is, hair takes a long time to grow!”

Romina can guide you through the whole process to make sure SMP is the right solution for you. She also has the technology to create a visual example of what you would like with the SMP hair procedure so you can view a real-life example before committing. Dedicated to helping people through her business, she loves witnessing first-hand how SMP can completely change someone’s life - restoring confidence, igniting vigour and generating a new spark. Romina moved to the Whitsundays with her partner last year, looking for a new and warmer place to call home. The pair had been looking to escape the city and move to a beautiful coastal town for some time, so they started their search and by chance, came across Airlie Beach, and as they say, the rest is history.

Since then, the couple have been installing a relaxing home clinic for Romina’s business and even accommodation for her interstate clients who might like to stay while getting an SMP treatment. In her own time, Romina loves heading down and participating in the Twilight Sailing Races each Wednesday at the Whitsunday Sailing Club.

Fun to be around, passionate about her trade and an experienced practitioner, Romina is welcoming to all and happy to offer solutions for any of your hair re-growth needs.

1. I honour the privilege of being part of a child’s team and supporting progress towards their potential and beyond. What I really love about my work is establishing a person’s strengths and enabling these to make positive changes. I also love to play!

MR SEBASTIAN FOTI ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANT (TAEKWONDO)

2. For fun and rejuvenation, I love to ride my horses. I am stimulated by a challenge, whether it be physical such as getting myself and horse successfully around a jump course, cracking a fun yoga pose, bushwalking in remote locations; or creative challenges such as sewing and gardening. Other fundamentals to my self-care are a regular yoga practice, my Faith and being with family and friends.

1. What I love most about working with OTW is the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives by helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals through teaching taekwondo. There are synergies between the principles of Taekwondo and OT, both emphasise the importance of persistence, self-awareness, and continuous improvement. Through my practice as a Black Belt (3rd Dan), I can draw upon Taekwondo to inspire my clients and support them in overcoming obstacles on their journey towards health and well-being.

2. So, whether I’m kicking it up in Taekwondo class, getting lost in a good book, listening to my favourite tunes, breaking a sweat at the gym, or nurturing my green thumb in the garden, my selfcare routine is all about balance and nourishing both body and soul with the things that are important to me. After all, taking care of yourself is a necessity for living your best life.

JADE KNIGHT SPECIALIST TEACHER

1. After over a decade teaching and completing a Masters in Inclusive Education I transitioned into a role at Occupational Therapy Whitsundays fulfilling my desire to work directly with children with disabilities and developmental delays and their families. This work brings a sense of fulfillment unlike any other previous job. I’m passionate about supporting and coordinating with families and educators during pivotal transition periods such as daycare, kindergarten, and the school years.

2. I enjoy being out in nature, staying active, swimming, and going to the gym. Other self-care activities I practice are good sleep hygiene, taking time out for myself, being social and having quality family time with my partner and daughter.

A WHOLE LIFESTYLE CHANGE

With Nutritionist Rebecca Tarver

“People don’t know how good they can feel, just by eating well!”

Food is the fuel by which we function, it is our energy, our vitality, our lifeblood. What we choose to ingest influences every part of our human existence. From our mood and mental health to our skin tone, the sparkle in our eyes, clarity of thought and our ability to live a fulfilling life. This is something that Nutritionist Bec Tarver understands intimately, having studied the modality and gained formal qualifications which are actively transforming lives all across the region. From weight loss to mobility, hormonal balancing to better quality sleep and reduced anxiety; she has been able to resolve countless conditions by simply prescribing meal plans and nutritional supplements.

Growing up on a farm in Kaikoura on the South Island of New Zealand, Bec always had a deep to connection to the land and, in her adult years, developed a firm understanding of food as medicine. She recalls eating from the vegetable

garden as a child, but despite this connection to the land, her family did not have the education at the time to always eat healthily. Her dad became a fisherman, and they consumed fish most nights, but it was often deep fried and big portions.

Moving to Australia in her twenties, Bec worked on charter boats here in the Whitsundays, which is where she met her husband. The couple soon returned to New Zealand where they had their first daughter, but returned to Australia to live just before their second daughter was born. It wasn’t until the children were in school, however, that Bec decided to pursue a passion for nutrition.

Studying her Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine took a few years, and she has been practising locally now since 2018. In addition to this, Bec works remotely part-time, via telehealth for a large clinic in Melbourne. With over 40 other practitioners, this larger network of Naturopaths and Nutritionists provides a wonderful foundation of support and knowledge to develop skills and

techniques in the field.

Bec runs her own business from a dedicated consultation room at Intuitive Massage in Cannonvale.

“I love learning new things, it’s fascinating! All our body systems tie in together and impact each other. Your gut health connects to your brain, impacts your hormones and immune system - everything links together.”

A firm believer in preventative medicine Bec is dedicated to breaking the cycle and replacing it with a positive symbiotic approach where every aspect complements the other. With nutritional tools of diet and lifestyle advice, and high-quality supplements, she can create a personalised plan of what each individual needs to thrive.

It’s time to say good-bye to that bloated, exhausted feeling and welcome a new vitality that can transcend even your wildest expectations.

The Metabolic Balance® Program

Take The 12-Week Transformation Challenge

Stripping back your food consumption to its bare bones and rebooting your system can completely transform your life. From this new foundation, it is possible to rebuild and reset metabolic health to create long-term results conducive to maximising your wellbeing. Bec experienced this transformation firsthand by putting herself through the challenge after completing the formal training with Metabolic Balance® losing ten kilos but gaining much more in overall comfort and vitality. Since then, she has spread the word of the program’s success and transformed the lives of countless others in the community.

People are reporting improved sleep quality, others with chronic pain have witnessed it disappear and many have lost a significant amount

This 12-week metabolic program works by resetting your metabolism and reducing inflammation. It all begins with an initial consultation which examines the issues you want to resolve, your goals and a baseline for Bec to work from. Body measurements are taken and you are then sent for a blood test where 36 markers are taken by a pathologist. Finally, results are entered into the Metabolic Balance ®

Metabolic Balance is a 30-year-old program initially developed by a Doctor, a Nutritionist and Naturopath in Germany.

“It has a strong scientific backing but also a holistic approach,” explains Bec. “From your blood test results and measurement data, specific foods and a meal plan is formulated just for you. It is very individualised for that person to help correct nutritional deficiencies, downgrade inflammation and support the structure and function of

Most of the “magic” occurs in the first month, where the client sticks strictly to the foods and meal plan provided. After this, more flexibility is gradually introduced with food choices.

“It’s important to know, this program is designed to show people what foods help them feel good, how to prepare it, and when to eat,” added Bec. “It is a healthy lifestyle change for longevity, not a short term diet, only to return to old habits. You need to be prepared to eat whole food and to cook from scratch, clients need to be prepared for change.”

The entire program is completely supported by Bec, and participants receive six consultations where their meal plan can be tweaked or updated. In addition, their goals and progress will be monitored and

“It’s the complete re-set,” shared Bec. “And it will change your life.”

The biggest reason I decided to do the program was for weight loss, but it ended up being so much more than that. The mental clarity, the energy and just feeling good about nurturing myself – it all felt amazing. The first part of the journey and adjusting to the strict eating windows was hard at first but once I got started and I could see the results, it made me want to stick to the plan even more! I loved this experience, and I would recommend it to anyone!

Skin Transformations by Allison A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE TO

INJECTABLES AND COSMETIC SURGERY!

At the heart of Skin Transformations lies Allison’s unwavering passion for skin health. Her journey into advanced corrective treatments, such as Plasma Fibroblasting and CoolJet Pro Cold Plasma, ignited a renewed devotion for her career.

Avoid costly and risky cosmetic surgeries and consider Plasma Fibroblast Treatments, a new revolutionary non-surgical skin tightening treatment which is highly effective and a remarkable healthy alternative to surgery. At Skin Transformations they only use the best technologies on the market. Plasma Pen and CoolJet Plasma by Louise Walsh are crafted in Germany and are both FDA registered and TGA approved.

As we age, the dermal layer of the skin starts getting thinner, elasticity lessens and collagen levels decrease, leading to wrinkles, lines and sagging skin. The Plasma Pen is a soft surgical procedure that is capable of treating a wide range of skin conditions that are usually treated with surgery or cosmetic injections.

“Since starting plasma treatments almost four years ago, I found my passion again. I love the medical side of beauty which delves beyond the cosmetic quick fixes and focuses on real rejuvenation. Eye lid tightening and mole removal would be my favourites. I love being able to help people’s self-confidence.” Allison said.

The Plasma Pen produces a tiny plasma spark that evaporates small superficial dots of skin (reduces 25% of loose skin per treatment) and stimulates fibroblast cells, creating collagen and elastin. The final remodelling of the new cells takes 12 weeks to see the full transformation. These new fibroblast cells keep producing collagen for up to 3 years. This treatment can be used all over the body to tighten skin, reduce scar tissue and to also remove unwanted lumps (moles require doctors’ approval). Vagina skin tightening and remodelling available next year.

The Cool Jet Pro Plasma is a gentler option – Imagine painless invisible skin needling that creates micro channels for 70% increase in product absorption. Other benefits are • enhanced collagen production • healthy skin regeneration • accelerated wound healing • hair stimulation and sterilises the skin to improve acne, Rosacea, Dermatitis, Eczema + more.

“Our approach is centred around the significance of thorough skin preparation and personalised

care. Strengthening your skin from the inside with the right prescribed inner skincare supplements (Advanced Nutrition Program) as well as the outside with topical cosmeceutical skincare (Medik8, Mesoestetic + ProCell) and to enhance results with advanced corrective clinic treatments, will ensure your skin reaches its maximum potential and visibly transforms into the skin you’ve always dreamt of.” Allison said.

In fact, Allison is one of the top Plasmologists in Australia, endorsed by the International Plasma Pen Trainer while demonstrating treatments at the Sydney beauty expo in 2022.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Allison’s life is a testament to balance and adventure. From playing and coaching softball to camping trips with her family and beloved border collie, Merlot. She is a Mackay local through and through, with roots firmly planted in community and connection.

As Allison continues to expand her skill set, currently studying, diploma of nursing and explores new avenues for growth, one thing remains constant: her unwavering dedication to helping others look and feel their best. Her commitment to natural, transformative skincare is a breath of fresh air, a reminder that radiant beauty begins with healthy skin. Best health or beauty tip you’ve ever been given?

Apply sunscreen daily!

Protecting your skin from the sun is crucial, as it’s responsible for 80% of premature aging, and given that Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, it’s an essential habit.

Most effective health or beauty product you’ve ever used?

Plasma Fibroblasting treatments have been incredibly effective for me.

For at-home use, Medik8 Sleep Glycolic is my favourite. It’s an encapsulated glycolic acid peel that smoothes and brightens the complexion overnight.

They came to see us looking for a solution prior to going on an extended trip around Australia in their caravan and say our help and services were a ‘marriage saver’.

“Some people have not slept well for years and when they have experienced consistent restorative sleep following our services, we feel that our mission has been accomplished.”

A Haven Of Holistic Wellness

Discover Flourish: Women’s Health & Family Therapies, a haven of support and empowerment in the heart of the Whitsundays. Founded by Margaux, an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for holistic wellness, Flourish offers a diverse range of services both online and in person, tailored to women, mothers, and children.

With over 23 years of expertise, Margaux brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her practice. Margaux noticed that women of all ages were drawn to mind-body practices like yoga for self-care and through their stories also recognised the unmet needs of women in the region regarding primary healthcare, thus Flourish was established in 2024, filling a crucial gap in allied health services.

Flourish provides consultancy and therapeutic OT services, addressing a variety of issues such as pelvic health, post-natal depression, and parental stress. Through an Occupational Therapy lens, Margaux guides women through all of life’s challenges, supporting them in every stage of their journey.

Complementing her OT services, Margaux offers yoga therapy and classes in Cannonvale, promoting mind-body wellness. From prenatal yoga courses to therapeutic workshops, Flourish is dedicated to enhancing women’s overall health and well-being.

Additionally, Margaux extends her expertise to include family support services, catering to the unique needs of children and youth. Whether it’s mental health support, puberty guidance, or digestive health, Flourish provides comprehensive care for the whole family!

Margaux’s vision is simple yet profound: to empower women, mothers, and children to flourish and live their best lives. With Flourish, you’ll find a supportive community and expert guidance to help you thrive.
