CQ Rescue winched a se riously ill foreign sailor off a bulk carrier anchored at Hay Point last Saturday, battling blustery conditions.
The rescue chopper was tasked by Queensland Health about 10.30am and, with a doctor and Critical Care Paramedic on board, arrived on scene within 10 min utes of take-off from the Mackay airport.

After further discussion with the crew and several orbits of the carrier, a rescue crewman and paramedic both completed a ‘hover exit’ of the aircraft; they exited the chopper as it hovered less than a metre above the ship’s helideck.
“Council continues to work with ALDI and is providing them with support in re lation to their operational works applica tions for this site,” she said.
The rescue helicopter medical team took about 10 minutes to assess and secure the patient into a harness. After more radio contact between the team and the air craft, the ill sailor was accompanied by the paramedic as he was winched up from the ship’s deck into the aircraft hovering about 20 metres above.

The Port of Mackay now boasts a new multi-million dollar pur pose-built tug berth facility, with Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey saying the $8.5 million investment shows how well positioned Mackay is for imports and exports.
“The Port of Mackay has smashed out a re cord year of trade, proving just how strong Queensland’s export market is,” Mr Bailey

Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Fertin said North Queensland-based Pacific Marine Group Pty Ltd (PMG) had recently com pleted the new facility, supporting local jobs along the way.
“Our team did a brilliant job considering there were a number of challenges along the way including a period of COVID

The dedicated tug berth facil ity is located inside the secure port area and will cater for the existing tug fleet and provides flexibility for future growth. John married Margaret and the couple had 11 children. The Youngest, Alan, took over the management of Saltbush before acquir ing the aggregation. Alan and his wife Irene had three children, their son Alan Jnr took over Saltbush in 1946. Ian Shannon took over the management in 1955 when Alan took over ‘Cardowan’ and he eventually purchased the property from the family. Ian and his wife Margaret have four children, their second son Stuart and his wife Leigh took over ownership of Saltbush Park.
“It’s a multidisciplinary exhibition that features photography, sound, drawing and installation and offers a window into what she sees as fractured landscapes, focusing on the different growth stages of trees,” she said.

To celebrate the centenary of John Shannon taking over Saltbush in 1872, the family ar ranged some significant activities around the weekend on 26th August 1972. The most significant event was a five event Pic nic Race Meeting, which was staged to in vite the local community to join the family to celebrate the survival and prospering of the family through the first 100 years.

John Shannon’s living depended on horse teams. He had draught horses and over the years Saltbush Park’s horses achieved a great reputation amongst the cane farmers, which encouraged John to run a herd of 40 brood mares.
Last weekend saw two days of celebrations in Nebo and on the property, with more than 230 friends and family registering for the celebrations, some coming from as far away as Perth.
This year marks the 150th year of the Shannon Family and Saltbush Park with the unveiling of a bronze Plinth in Cen tennial Park along with other celebrations held in Nebo and surrounding districts.

All exhibitions run until November 20, 2022.
The locals would sometimes travel for days in their sulkies and buggies and set up elab orate camps for the race period. There were even formal balls in the evenings, and the ladies reveled in dressing for the occasion: Ruby Shannon composed several pieces for the balls, and one, the Normanby Waltz, proved very popular for many years.

Comerford chalked up 51 ap pearances during his six-season playing stint with the Cutters but missed the club’s 2013 pre miership triumph after tearing his ACL in the early rounds.
Comerford began his league career with Souths Sharks in U/13s as a promising centre before bursting into A Grade in 2006.
Comerford has mentored the U/21s and Brothers A Grade last season and proved a valu able voice as Senior Assistant Coach to the departing Elliott during the Cutters’ 2022 cam paign.
