From boardrooms to business launches, this edition is all about women making waves, breaking barriers, and redefining success.

When I was younger, I often looked around and enviously admired those with talent, wondering why they were the lucky ones gifted with natural flair and an aptitude for a particular skill. I would feel despondent, inept, and not good enough. My dreams of a career in journalism, a life as a writer, seemed far-fetched and out of reach. As a result, I spent many years feeling lost.

Until, of course, I was found.

A moment of realisation came quite recently as I sat on my veranda, looking out to sea and reflecting on my life. Has my talent as a writer grown? Yes, but only as a result of writing for eight hours a day and completing a novel. It wasn’t gifted—it was earned. It was earned in the nights I kept writing, even though my eyes burned with exhaustion. It was earned on the days I showed up, chased stories, and pursued my dreams—diligently and consistently.

dogged determination, and the sheer grit it takes to succeed, then you will. Even with average talent. That, I realised, is what got me to where I am today—a place where I feel successful and proud of what I have achieved.

On that evening on the veranda, as I watched the children play in the nearby park and listened to the birds chatter excitedly about the approaching sunset, I felt a sense of clarity about my life. You can have all the talent in the world and let it go to waste. But if you have the right work ethic, the

Reading the inspiring stories of the local businesswomen we feature in this edition, I noticed that this sentiment is a common theme among many of them. Showing up every day, being driven, never giving up—these are the reasons they attribute to their success. Interestingly, talent is scarcely mentioned. So, if you’re reading this and thinking that perhaps you’re not talented enough, let go of that hesitation. Instead, focus on something you can control: your willpower, your desire to achieve your dreams, and your determination to live your best life—no matter what.

“Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work” (Stephen King)

Four Women Dance To Change The Future Of Domestic Violence DANCING FOR DESTINY

When Coral Sea Marina CEO, Kate Purdie, was first approached to donate a prize for the Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ) ‘Jet Raffle’ back in 2021, she sat down to watch a video about the organisation’s work and cried.

“While I’ve been fortunate enough to never experience domestic or family violence myself, I could relate to the woman in the video,” she said. “I know what it is like to be in a situation where you have no control over what is happening to you and your family; to feel utterly terrified; to put on a brave face and pretend everything is okay when nothing is; to lose everything you have worked so hard for, including your family, and have to start all over again.”

Fast-forward to 2024 and accepting an invitation to become one of WLSQ’s flagship fundraising ‘Dancing CEOs’ was an easy decision to make because “If, by doing this, I can help even just one mum from ever feeling the way I did, I will. I hope that through ‘Dancing CEOs’, together we can make an even bigger difference than that.”

The catalyst for both the invitation to dance and that fateful initial donation request was Katelyn Aslett-Collins, a former ‘Dancing CEO’. “It had

become my dream to somehow bring ‘Dancing CEOs’ from Brisbane to the Whitsundays and ultimately to create a local team, since what WLSQ provides is a statewide service and the need in our community is as great here as it is anywhere else,” she explained.

Whitsunday Transit’s Candice Crossley was the first piece of the puzzle in the formation of that inaugural Whitsundays team, having attended a function at which Ms Aslett-Collins was a guest speaker.

“As soon as I heard Katelyn speak, I realised that here was a woman who could help me fulfil a desire to ‘give back’ – particularly to women and children, with whom as a former school teacher, and part of a company which transports 2,000 children to school each day, I have a deep affinity – made even more poignant by knowing that of all the women experiencing domestic violence, 75 per cent have children in their care,” she said.

Tasked with finding the rest of her team, Ms Crossley turned to her friendship group, selecting not just Ms Purdie, but also SeaLink Whitsundays Business Development Manager, Red Cat Adventures co-founder and Chair of Tourism Whitsundays, Julie Telford, for whom the concept

of women helping women struck a particular chord.

“I share WLSQ’s core values of care, respect, inclusivity, accountability and collaboration, and I want us to create a safer future for women and children, where everyone can live free from violence and discrimination and where a woman can tell her story without judgement or fear,” she said.

Completing the quartet, Whitsunday Family Dental co-owner, Dr Alice Harriott, was honoured to join saying: “I am a mother of four daughters, and I pray they may never need such a service, so I am dancing to raise awareness and funds, so that one day, no-one else has to,” Dr Harriott said. These Whitsunday Women have come together to dance all the way to Brisbane City Hall this May in their quest to break the cycle of domestic violence in our communities. Despite the seriousness of their fundraising campaign, the five women behind ‘Team Whitsundays’ are determined to carry a spirit of optimism and hope throughout this journey. Equipped with their dancing shoes, strong moral compass and steadfast companionship, the world awaits to see what ‘Team Whitsundays’ has to offer.

Alison Pighills’ rural property near Mount Jukes hums with the sounds of life— wallabies bounding through enclosures, possums scurrying into their pens, and the occasional chirp of birds in recovery. For almost a decade, Alison has dedicated her time to rehabilitating native wildlife, giving hundreds of animals a second chance at life in the wild.

“I’ve released over 100 wallabies back into the wild, and what’s amazing is that many of them come back to visit. They’re still wild, but they sometimes hang around near the property for a while,” Alison said.

Alison’s work as the treasurer and koala coordinator for Fauna Rescue Whitsundays (FRW) started with a love for possums. In 2016, she began caring for the marsupials, and her passion soon grew to include wallabies and, eventually, koalas.

She has taken on her most ambitious project yet—a koala rehabilitation centre. Funded primarily by a gambling community benefit grant, the sanctuary features a medical treatment room, an isolation area for sick or

ALISON’S FIGHT TO GIVE KOALAS A FUTURE

infectious koalas, and an outdoor space where the animals can practice foraging on native trees.

However, the centre is only part of the vision. Alison is working to enclose a 40-metre by 40-metre area of native bushland with a specialised koala perimeter fence, allowing injured and orphaned koalas to fully rehabilitate before being released. The area will contain ironbark and Queensland blue gum trees, which koalas love to graze on.

“It’s a critical step in their recovery,” she said.

“Koalas need to relearn how to climb and graze before they can survive in the wild.”

Alison’s property is not just a sanctuary; it’s a lifeline for countless animals.

Her work with koalas has become particularly urgent, with more injured animals coming from areas like the Peak Downs Highway. Alison said the rise in drive-in, drive-out mining traffic has significantly impacted the local koala population.

“A lot of koalas come in with injuries from vehicle strikes,” she said.

“Right now, mums are carrying their joeys on their backs, so if you see a dead female koala, it’s crucial to check her pouch. The joey might still be alive, or it could be nearby.”

But the costs of running such a sanctuary are immense.

“I keep milk supplies for all ages of wallabies, possums, and koalas,” she explained.

“My household food bill is higher for animals than it is for humans,” Alison laughed.

Fauna Rescue Whitsundays plays a vital role in the region.

Since its establishment in 2001, it has provided care for sick, injured, and orphaned native animals across a massive catchment area, from St Lawrence to Clermont and north to Bowen. The organisation operates a 24-hour wildlife hotline, providing immediate assistance to animals in distress.

To report injured or orphaned wildlife or to learn how you can help, call Fauna Rescue Whitsundays’ 24-hour hotline at 4947 3389 or visit the website at www.frw.org.au.

A TASTE OF TRADITION

Elisabeth Ribeiro’s journey from Brazil to Australia at the age of 20 is one of resilience, ambition, and a desire to create something truly special for the people around her. Arriving in a new country with little knowledge of the English language, Elisabeth poured her time into her children for thirteen years before discovering her destiny as a business owner. Fast forward to today, she is the proud owner of Deja-Vu, a delightful gift shop café in Mackay that offers so much more than just a place to enjoy tea and coffee.

Deja-Vu is like stepping into another world. With its authentic mix of antiques, gifts, and charming furniture, the shop radiates a homely, welcoming vibe that creates opportunities for people to connect.

“I wanted to give people a nice place, to come sit and have a drink, whether it’s coffee, tea, or to just spend some time relaxing,” says Elisabeth.

“Once you’re here, you feel like you’re in another country.”

And she’s certainly succeeded in creating that atmosphere. In fact, much of her success can be attributed to the support she’s received from the previous owner, Kerri Ross, who ran the business for 21 years.

“She’s been lovely, and I can’t thank her enough for all the help she’s offered to me,” Elisabeth says.

Beyond regular café offerings, Elisabeth has a passion for bringing people together. That’s why she hosts beautiful high teas, which she believes are perfect for celebrating life’s special moments. Whether it’s a baby shower, birthday party, or just a moment of indulgence, high tea at Deja-Vu is a celebration of life and community.

“People are always celebrating something, and I love that,” she shares.

Outside of Deja-Vu, Elisabeth is a master of multitasking. She manages her own Airbnb’s while continuing to support her husband’s landscaping business – a venture she’s been involved in for over two decades.

Her passion for music runs deep and shines through her children, who excel in drums, piano, and orchestral performances. The Ribeiro family also enjoys camping and exploring new restaurants, fuelling Elisabeth’s love for food and culture.

Elisabeth’s story is one of purpose, joy, and the belief that you can achieve anything with hard work and faith.

“You can do anything…God will give you the strength to do it,” she says, and her journey serves as an inspiring reminder that anything is possible when you follow your passion and stay true to your values.

Whether you’re popping in for a coffee, indulging in high tea with friends, or searching for a unique gift, Deja-Vu serves up more than just a cup of nostalgia. It’s a place where every sip feels familiar, yet delightfully new!

What’s a beauty product you can’t live without?

“I don’t wear makeup, but I always have red lipstick. It’s my only makeup,” she laughs.

What’s one word you would use to describe yourself?

“Happy… my friends always say I’m happy!”

What’s your favourite place to visit?

“The Sydney Opera House – It’s just beautiful there.”

THRIVING AT EVERY AGE

Achampion of empowerment through professional development, Jo Sainsbury, Founder of ‘Kickass Women,’ believes in embracing challenging and transformative pathways while collaborating with others to successfully reinvent oneself.

“I consider myself as an on-going project and work in progress albeit heading towards my late 50’s and I’m allowed to be both a work in progress and help others grow at the same time,” shared Jo.

“I’m one of those people who still has a healthy appetite for continual self and professional development – for me it’s about what makes you feel the most alive and then creating it.”

Jo sees her current stage in life as an opportunity to flourish and she reflects fondly on all she has achieved in the past both professionally and personally, noting she now plans to prioritise ensuring the rest of her life is the best of her life.

“Most women believe they’re now likely to try new things since they turned 50,” explained Jo.

“This includes a vast number of them starting their own businesses, stepping up to take that promotion or into that leadership role, going to music festivals, becoming the exciting adventurers looking after their fitness and health, going solo travelling, and more so feeling younger than ever today!”

Professional development plays a key role in Jo’s measurement of her personal growth. She believes that no matter how vast one’s skillset or knowledge base may be, there’s always room to flourish.

As part of her career, Jo recently completed an 18-month leadership program, which further secured her position within the Site Leadership Team as a Coal Mining Supervisor and equipped her with invaluable tools to create lasting personal and professional changes.

“What I’ve learnt and developed puts a greater emphasis on emotional intelligence and the ability to tap into the experiences of your employees,” Jo noted.

“Heart-centered leadership is more inclusive and compassionate and responsive rather than reactive – in business, heart-centered leadership helps build teams that are more intuitive and emotionally intelligent – and that’s what women leaders are famous for.”

Jo notes there are many examples of women leading in collaboration all around us, benefiting communities, ecosystems, families and loved ones simultaneously.

“When you put your potential, skill and enthusiasm together, possibilities open their doors for you automatically,” added Jo.

“The investment you make in your professional development is a strong investment you make in yourself.”

“So ladies, you may have to lose who you were to find out who you are – chase those dreams, fulfill those goals, and love your age, as you are old enough to know there’s better, young enough not to care, and experienced enough to do it right now.”

What exciting challenge do you have coming up?

“Later this year, I’ll be taking on the Three Capes Trek in Tasmania, an incredible multi-day hike through some of Australia’s most breathtaking coastal landscapes. It’s a personal challenge, but more importantly, it’s an opportunity to raise funds for CQ Rescue. BREAKING THE MOULD

A key figure in the Whitsunday community, Katelyn Collins (Aslett) is a renowned philanthropist and business woman who smashes through barriers, innovates and catapults ideas into a new stratosphere. Completely redefining the way people transit through Whitsunday Coast Airport, Kate introduced a high-tech food offering at Taste Whitsundays and the results have been a game-changer. Meanwhile, her fundraising endeavours have seen her spearhead initiatives and drive campaigns where all she touches turns to magic.

Originally from Townsville, Kate moved to Airlie Beach after meeting her husband, local Kev Collins. Her career shifted when she successfully tendered for the airport cafe, where she has made a lasting impact.

“We’ve contributed to it becoming one of the prize-winning regional airports in the country over the last couple of years, we are very focused on trying to include as much local produce, with our gift shop and the cafe, we try to use as much local food and products and put a local spin on it,” Kate emphasised.

In Kate’s other ventures, she recently received the emerging Queensland Philanthropist of the Year award, which she said was humbling but amazing.

“The main reason I won that award is for several years I’ve had a not-forprofit business that I started called My Giving Table,” Kate explained.

My Giving Table turns gatherings into fundraisers. Whether it’s a birthday, cocktail party, or dinner, hosts can register their event on the platform, set a theme, and send invitations. Instead of gifts, guests donate t charity or purchase tickets, with all proceeds going directly to the cause.

Between My Giving Table and the Whitsunday Luxe raffle that Kate has put together for the last seven years for Women’s Legal Service, she has raised over half a million dollars for charities and is currently supporting our local Team Whitsundays Dancing CEOs to raise funds for their campaign.

Kate explained how she is now at a stage where she looks to give back to others in the community.

“If you are successful in life, then the way to be more successful is to work out how you can give back to others, because you hit a point that your success and your focus on yourself is only filling so much of the story.”

Alongside this achievement, Kate has also found success with her business, Taste Whitsunday, where they have made remarkable advancements in technology. Their innovations have been so impactful that they have influenced major global companies, including Emirates.

When asked what challenges Kate has faced as a female entrepreneur, she stated that she never puts that hat on, and that she is a business person who doesn’t define herself by her femininity but says that it has actually helped her in many areas of business.

Do you have any female role models in your life?

“Growing up my mother was, because she was in a small business, so I spent my childhood watching my mum, working all kinds of hours and juggling and whilst my mum and dad were in a business together, my mum was really the brains behind it.”

What advice would you offer to other women looking to start their own business or take on leadership roles?

“Be kind to yourself and be fearless and take risks.”

A JOURNEY OF ‘YES’

If you ask Dr Ritu Rana how she ended up in Mackay, she’ll tell you it started with a search for sunshine. What she found was more than just warm weather—she found a thriving career, a supportive community, and a life where medicine and motherhood go hand in hand. Today, she’s not just one of Queensland’s leading fertility specialists; she’s also a business powerhouse, balancing family life and a medical empire with grace, determination, and a knack for making the impossible seem effortless.

Dr Rana’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Born and trained in India, she met her husband in medical school before moving to the UK for further training. She spent over a decade in England, where she sharpened her expertise in obstetrics and gynaecology, specialising in high-risk pregnancies, advanced laparoscopic surgery, and infertility treatment. Her time at the Leeds Centre of Reproductive Medicine saw her working at the forefront of IVF, helping thousands of couples on their journey to parenthood.

But it wasn’t just her career that shaped her move to Australia. Her middle child suffered from severe eczema, requiring immunosuppressant medication. The family needed a change, and with the UK’s grey skies doing little to help, they set their sights on somewhere warmer. After considering Dubai and India, fate led them to Mackay—thanks to a friend who was relocating there at the same time. It was a leap of faith that paid off, with Mackay quickly feeling like home.

Dr Rana’s path to business ownership wasn’t planned. She initially joined renowned fertility specialist Dr Lance Herron’s practice in 2018, seeking the flexibility of private practice while raising three young children. She took on a part-time role, easing into the business while still focusing on family.

Then, in 2020, everything changed. Dr Herron fell ill, and overnight, she was faced with a decision: close the practice or step up. Without hesitation, she chose the latter, taking over his patients and ensuring continuity of care. It was a baptism by fire, but one she handled with the same precision and care she brings to her medical practice.

Running a business was new territory.

“Medical school teaches you how to save lives, not how to manage staff, finances, or a growing practice,” Dr Rana said.

But with the support of mentors—particularly Bill and Julie Boyd, who helped her navigate the complexities of Medicare and private health funds— Dr Rana quickly mastered the business side of medicine.

Fast forward to today, and her clinic boasts one of the highest IVF success rates in Queensland, a testament to her skill, dedication, and the deep trust her patients place in her. Dr Rana is the first to acknowledge that her success isn’t just her own. She firmly believes that the team around her plays an instrumental role in everything she has achieved. From the compassionate midwives who provide unwavering support to the administration team who, as she puts it, “almost literally organise my life,” she knows she couldn’t do it without them.

“Without my team, I would be lost,” she says.

“Their care, dedication, and ability to keep everything running smoothly allow me to focus on what I do best—helping my patients on their fertility journey.”

Success in business is one thing. Success while juggling a medical career and three children is another. For Dr Rana, balance comes down to two things: planning and support. She meticulously schedules her year, aligning work commitments with school holidays to ensure quality family time. A

strong support system—including a cleaner, a home helper, and a nanny— allows her to focus on her patients during the day and be fully present for her children in the evenings.

She also credits her husband, a psychiatrist, as her rock. Both with demanding careers, they share responsibilities and carve out time for themselves—whether it’s a Netflix night or a well-deserved family holiday.

Dr Rana is passionate about encouraging young women to chase their dreams, especially in medicine. Her advice?

“Be clear about your goals and work relentlessly towards them.

“Medicine is demanding, but it doesn’t have to come at the expense of fun and balance.”

She also believes in seizing opportunities.

“Life presents chances for growth, and success comes from saying ‘yes’ to challenges—even when they seem daunting.”

If she had hesitated when Dr Herron fell ill, she might never have discovered her talent for business.

For women navigating careers and families, she emphasises the importance of structure and support.

“You can have it all—just not all at once.

“Prioritisation, delegation, and a little self-care go a long way.”

When she’s not transforming lives in the clinic, Dr Rana is an avid traveller. With 35 countries under her belt, she finds joy in exploring nature, history, and different cultures. She also loves cooking, ensuring her family eats nutritious, balanced meals despite their hectic schedules.

Her story is proof that success isn’t about having an easy path—it’s about making the most of the journey.

From doctor to businesswoman, from England to Mackay, and from parttime practitioner to leading one of Queensland’s most successful fertility clinics, Dr Ritu Rana embodies resilience, ambition, and the power of saying ‘yes’ to new opportunities.

She may have come to Mackay in search of sunshine, but in the process, she brought her own light, warming the lives of those she helps and guides.

Items Always in My Handbag

You’ll always find a Christian Dior lip balm and Lancôme La Vie Est Belle perfume in my handbag. I’ve used them for at least eight years—I dislike dry lips and always want to smell good! I have a passion for fashion and makeup. I love dressing up for social occasions and experimenting with different styles. My 16-year-old daughter is actually better at makeup than I am, and I love learning from her!

BREAKING BARRIERS CLOSING DEALS

With Kelisha Day, Sales and Leasing Executive from Explore Property Commercial

At just 23, Kelisha Day is proving that age and gender are no barriers to success in the high-stakes world of commercial real estate. As a Sales and Leasing Executive with Explore Property Commercial, she’s not just finding the perfect spaces for businesses—she’s carving out her own place in an industry traditionally dominated by men.

Kelisha’s story is one of grit, persistence, and a genuine love for helping people. Her journey began in 2019, not with a glamorous job offer, but as a determined young woman handing in her resume—and then following up until she got her foot in the door. From her first role as a personal assistant to director Jordan Miller, she soaked up every aspect of the business, moving to Brisbane to manage a property portfolio before returning to Mackay to take on sales and leasing. Since then, it’s been non-stop growth, both for Kelisha and the clients who trust her expertise.

“In commercial real estate, I’m here to make a difference,” Kelisha says.

“Yes, it’s a male-dominated industry, and that comes with its challenges. But I love proving myself, getting deals done, and earning that repeat business.”

Kelisha’s approach sets her apart. In an industry where transactions can feel impersonal, she makes it her mission to guide clients through the entire journey.

“It’s not just about a contract on paper—it’s about building relationships, ensuring clients understand the process, and helping businesses find the perfect space to thrive.”

Her expertise is backed by an impressive track record of successful deals. One standout achievement was her involvement in the sale of 135-137 Nebo Road. When the property first hit the market, it was only 60 per cent occupied. Determined to add value, Kelisha took the lead in sourcing tenants, crafting detailed layout plans to match their needs, and working closely with builders to bring the fit-outs to life. Her hands-on approach resulted in full occupancy and a 15 per cent uplift on the final sale price.

Beyond sales, Kelisha has been instrumental in securing some of the largest commercial leasing deals in Mackay’s CBD in recent years. Many of these spaces started as cold shells, but with her strategic planning, she transformed them into high-quality tenancies with competitive rental rates—delivering exceptional outcomes for both landlords and the broader Mackay business community.

When asked who inspires her, Kelisha doesn’t cite high-profile moguls or real estate tycoons.

“My mum,” she says without hesitation.

“She’s a go-getter, she taught me that hard work brings results, and nothing comes to you by doing nothing.”

It’s a philosophy Kelisha embodies daily—pushing forward, making her mark, and proving that passion and persistence are the ultimate gamechangers in business.

If the past five years are any indication, this young go-getter is only just getting started.

MASTERING THE BALANCING ACT

With Bec Gardner from The 'Cite' Group of Companies

Bec Gardner has a lot of titles, but none sum her up better than “Jack of all Trades.” As the co-founder and Administration and Finance Manager of the ‘Cite’ Group of Companies—which encompasses CiteCon, CiteWorx, CiteHire, and CiteSpec—Rebecca’s day is a whirlwind of numbers, strategy, marketing, HR, and business development.

“My husband jokingly calls me the ‘bean counter,’ but really, I’m across everything,” she says.

“I handle finances, compliance, HR, recruitment, marketing, and client relations—plus, I somehow fit in being a mum and wife.”

Bec thrives on keeping the wheels turning in a high-pressure industry, ensuring operations run smoothly while fostering a company culture that prioritises both efficiency and people.

“I love problem-solving and finding ways to improve processes,” she says.

“Every day is different, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The ‘Cite’ Group of Companies stands out in the construction, civil, and equipment hire sectors by offering a holistic, tailored approach.

“We’re a one-stop shop,” Rebecca explains.

“We listen, we adapt, and we deliver solutions that work for our clients. Safety, compliance, and technology integration are key, but above all, it’s our reputation for reliability and service that sets us apart.”

Her leadership is shaped by a lifetime of strong female role models, from historical figures to the inspiring women in her own family.

“My mother, daughter, and aunties have been incredible examples of resilience,” she says.

“They’ve shown me that strength and grace can coexist, and that even in male-dominated industries, we can make a lasting impact.”

Bec’s daughter Paige is following in her footsteps, working as a contract administrator in the family business. It’s a shift she’s proud to witness, particularly as the industry continues to evolve.

“Construction has traditionally been a boys’ club, but the tide is turning,” she says.

“Women are proving themselves in every aspect, from technical roles to leadership. The key is to back yourself, keep learning, and know your worth.”

Despite juggling multiple businesses, Bec has found the perfect counterbalance—one with a fluffy face and a penchant for mischief. As a dedicated Valais Blacknose sheep breeder, her farm is more than just a retreat; it’s a passion project.

“Spending afternoons on the farm with our cows, sheep, chickens, and ducks is my escape. It keeps me grounded and reminds me of what truly matters.”

Breeding these rare and sought-after sheep is a labour of love, adding yet another unique skill to her already impressive repertoire.

Bec’s passion for her work is undeniable, but her drive extends beyond business. She’s committed to mentoring the next generation of women in construction and leadership, paving the way for a future where opportunity isn’t defined by gender.

“The road hasn’t always been easy, but the progress we’ve made is exciting,” she says.

“If I can inspire even one young woman to step into this industry with confidence, then I’ve done my job.”

DRIVING GROWTH WITH GRIT AND GEAR

With Mel Cook from CiteHire

Behind every piece of machinery at CiteHire, there’s a story of connection, expertise, and growth—and Mel Cook is the person making it all happen. As the Business Development Manager at the Mackay-based equipment hire company, Mel is a driving force behind the company’s growth, blending technical know-how with a passion for building lasting relationships. But while she’s just as comfortable behind a desk, the gear and the people she works with are what truly fuel her drive.

“I’m not just pushing paper; I’m making sure people get the right tools to get the job done,” says Mel, who brings 14 years of experience in the hire industry to her role.

“I thrive on understanding the equipment and how it fits into a wider solution for businesses. It’s about offering more than just a rental—it’s about being a partner to our customers.”

CiteHire’s success in the industry is testament to Mel’s unique skill set, which combines a deep understanding of operational logistics with a knack for forging meaningful customer connections.

Whether it’s helping a local contractor find the perfect tool or coordinating the logistics of large civil machinery, Mel’s approach has always been customer-centric.

“We’re not just in it for the transaction,” she says.

“We genuinely care about the people we work with and the businesses we support. That’s what excites me every day.”

In an industry historically dominated by men, Mel has found her place and earned the respect of her peers, thanks to her hard-earned expertise and no-nonsense approach.

“It hasn’t always been easy,” she admits. “But I’ve always approached my role with knowledge and confidence. Once people realise I understand the machinery inside and out, they see me as a valuable part of the conversation.”

For Mel, a key part of her success has been finding the right work-life balance, a challenge she approaches with the same focus she brings to her career.

“It’s about setting boundaries and knowing when to switch off,” she explains.

“That personal time—whether it’s on the water or with family—is crucial for me to recharge.”

When she’s not busy securing new business opportunities or navigating the complex logistics of the hire industry, Mel enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and their French Bulldog, Memphis.

“Boating, fishing, exploring the islands around Mackay—that’s my way to unwind.

“It’s amazing how much the region has to offer, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy quality time together.”

LEADING WITH PURPOSE AND PASSION

For Amanda Camm, leadership isn’t just about holding office—it’s about driving change, amplifying voices, and rolling up her sleeves to get things done.

As the newly appointed Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services, and Minister for Child Safety and Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, she has stepped into a role that is both deeply challenging and profoundly impactful. And yet, despite the weight of responsibility, she remains grounded in the community that shaped her.

“It’s humbling to be given the opportunity to take on an incredibly important and complex portfolio,” Amanda shares.

“We are embarking on massive reforms in domestic and family violence prevention and child protection, and I’m committed to making a meaningful difference.”

Her appointment marks a historic moment for the region, building on a family legacy of public service. Her great-uncle, Ron Camm, was the longest-serving Member for Whitsunday, with ministerial roles spanning mining, energy, police, and northern development.

“He always fought for our community, and we are humbled by his reputation,” she says.

“The bridge connecting North Mackay over the Pioneer River is named in his honour, and

MP AMANDA CAMM

the issues he was fighting for—Bruce Highway funding and affordable energy—are still the issues today.”

Juggling ministerial duties with local representation is no easy feat, but Amanda is determined to ensure Whitsunday remains front and centre.

“My priority is to serve the people of Whitsunday, and I always enjoy being out and about in our community,” she says.

“My schedule is always full, but I wouldn’t have it any other way—I’m not going to waste a minute!”

As a woman in leadership, Amanda is passionate about encouraging the next generation to step up and carve out their own paths.

“Don’t be afraid to stand up for what you believe in, take risks, and don’t shy away from challenges,” she advises.

“The road to where you want to go might be the one less travelled, particularly if you come from a regional area, but anything is possible if you work hard enough and believe in yourself.”

Beyond politics, Amanda is always pushing herself to learn, grow, and stay grounded.

“I love yoga!

“I completed my teacher training when I was 40 and try to practise or meditate most days,” she

reveals.

“And last year, at 45, I completed my Master of Business Administration. It took me five years while working and it nearly wore me down, but I finally got there!”

Throughout her journey, Amanda has drawn inspiration from incredible women who dedicated their lives to service.

“Recently, our community lost two amazing women, Dorne Wallace and Bridgeen Doherty.

“I’ve been blessed to meet so many smart, generous women who have given so much to others. Their legacy lives on.”

From the halls of parliament to the heart of her electorate, Amanda Camm is proving that leadership isn’t just about policy—it’s about people.

The Rise of Stephanie McWhirter: A Beacon Of Excellence In Real Estate

Climbing the property ladder is no easy feat, especially in an industry long dominated by men. Yet, Stephanie McWhirter, Principal of Belle Property Whitsundays, has not only navigated these challenges but firmly established herself as a leader in the field.

Stephanie’s journey into real estate began with a simple yet powerful motivation: a passion for helping people find their dream homes. Growing up in a family that valued community and connection, she understood early on the importance of creating spaces that reflect not only personal style but also foster relationships.

After completing her education and gaining experience in the industry, Stephanie opened  Belle Property Whitsundays, a renowned name known for its premium service and innovative approach to real estate.

“I opened my own real estate company to fulfil a vision of creating the best service in the Whitsundays!

Additionally, I wanted to build a team that shares this commitment, cultivating a culture of integrity and excellence!”

What sets Stephanie apart is her unwavering dedication to her clients. She believes that real estate is not just about transactions; it’s about building relationships. Her approach is personalised, taking the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances and aspirations. Whether working with first-time buyers, seasoned investors, or families looking to upgrade, Stephanie’s commitment to providing tailored solutions has earned her a loyal clientele.

Loving her job and finding the real estate realm truly captivating, Stephanie acknowledged that while the industry is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.

“You’ve got to put in a lot of work, a lot of dedication; but to me it’s all about service and being consistent. It’s about saying what you’re going to do and then doing it.

“If you’re willing to put in the effort, there’s really no limit to what you can achieve,” Stephanie explained.

Stephanie’s drive was evident from the outset. By her second year in the industry, she earned multiple accolades, including the Rising Star award. Her success

continued with the Chairman’s Elite award, ranking her among Australia’s top 1% of agents. Most recently, she was named a top 10 agent on realestate.com.au and the sole qualifier for the Whitsunday region, solidifying her industry reputation.

Stephanie reflects on the best business advice she’s ever received: “You can’t do it all.” She emphasises that this often means enlisting the help of a personal assistant or mentor, but above all, it’s about surrounding yourself with the right people. Currently working in a close-knit team of three to four individuals, she notes, “There’s a tremendous amount of work behind every single sale that people don’t see. A strong team ensures nothing gets overlooked, leading to a better experience for both buyers and sellers. It also enables us to serve more clients, more often.”

Stephanie underscores the importance of continuous learning and personal growth:

“Be Coachable! I remember when I hired my first coach, she asked me if I was going to be a know it all or a learn it all. It’s something I’ve never forgotten.”

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Stephanie is deeply committed to giving back to the community. She actively participates in local charities and events, believing that a strong community fosters a thriving real estate market. Her philanthropic efforts reflect her values and desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her:

“It all comes down to empathy—genuinely caring about people and always doing the right thing by the person in front of you, especially in a small town.”

As Stephanie McWhirter continues to thrive at Belle Property, she remains focused on expanding her reach while preserving her personal touch. Adaptable to real estate’s evolving landscape, she continues to deliver top-tier service.

For other women striving to succeed in their careers, Stephanie offers this advice: “Don’t base your value on anyone else’s opinion of you. If you have a dream, don’t just think about it—work relentlessly toward it and let your results speak for themselves.”

“It’s about being there to celebrate their wins, support them through challenges, and be the trusted voice they turn to at every stage.”

Nicole’s own career is proof that financial success isn’t just about where you start, but where you’re willing to go. Beginning as a receptionist in Gardian’s real estate department, she soon transitioned into financial planning, climbing the ranks from adviser’s assistant to paraplanner before becoming a fully qualified financial adviser. Born in Sydney to Italian immigrant parents, Anita’s upbringing was humble, but her family’s emphasis on generosity has stayed with her throughout her life. “My dad’s saying was, ‘Always give to others in need, always.’ This is where my care, passion, and empathy for others began,” Anita explains with a smile.

Being Italian nurtured a caring nature in Anita, which has shaped both her personal life and career. She thrives on helping others, a trait that has contributed to her success in real estate. Over the years, her ability to connect with people and her genuine love for her community have allowed her to rise to Elite status within Ray White, ranking among the top 3 percent of agents in the company.

Anita’s professional journey began on Hamilton Island in 2000, when she first entered the real estate industry with PRD before moving to Ray White in 2011. She’s built a niche in the region, particularly on Hamilton Island, where she’s established strong connections over the years.

“It’s a small community, and I know everyone. I have a lot of connections here,” she says. “I know the island like the back of my hand, and I love helping clients find their dream homes in such a stunning place.”

Anita’s intimate knowledge of Hamilton Island is one of the key reasons she’s become known as the go-to agent in the Whitsundays for House Hunters International. In 2011, she was first approached to feature on the iconic reality TV show, but her busy schedule meant it would take another decade before she could commit. By 2022, she was ready, and since then, she’s filmed three episodes, with another set to air at the end of the year. Her experience and expert insight into the market have made her the show’s trusted agent for the Whitsundays.

“Being a part of House Hunters International has been an amazing experience. It’s a way to show the world how beautiful this region is and to help people make one of the most significant decisions of their lives,” Anita says.

As a woman in a previously male-dominated industry, Anita has always embraced challenges, seeing opportunities where others might hesitate. She believes in the power of empathy and understanding, qualities she says are essential in the real estate world. “I always felt that there was a space for a woman’s touch in real estate—

someone who is empathetic, fierce when needed, and always protective of their clients’ best interests,” she adds.

Anita is quick to acknowledge that her success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of her mentors. “Mark and Belinda Beale have been instrumental in helping, guiding, and growing my business. I also admire Mother Teresa. She was kind, loving, and always focused on helping others—those are qualities I try to live by.”

Anita’s story is a testament to the power of dedication, community, and a genuine passion for helping others. Whether you’re looking for your dream home in the Whitsundays or simply want to connect with a trusted local, Anita Edgar is the agent you can count on. Here’s to the ray of light that is Anita Edgar.

BOUTIQUE SERVICE, BIG RESULTS

Barb Blackhall knows that in real estate, it’s not about being the biggest—it’s about being the best. As the owner and licensee of White Picket Real Estate, she has built a boutique agency where clients receive a level of care and attention they won’t find elsewhere.

“Buying and selling houses is something I do every day, but for my clients, it’s a huge life event. It can be stressful and emotional, and they need someone who is going to guide them through it with empathy,” Barb explains.

With decades of experience in the industry, she’s seen firsthand how large agencies can leave clients feeling like just another number. That’s why she set out to create a business that prioritises communication, consistency, and trust.

“At White Picket Real Estate, you deal with the same person every time. We keep our clients informed every step of the way, because when they understand the process, they feel more confident in their decisions,” she says.

Since launching in 2022 with a focus on sales and expanding to rentals in 2023, Barb has been dedicated to growing her business while maintaining its core values of personalised service.

She entered the real estate world at age 17, starting as a receptionist before working her way through sales, rentals, and management. That hands-on experience across every facet of the industry has shaped her approach and given her a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed.

Her advice to young women looking to follow in her footsteps is simple: work hard, stay curious, and invest time in understanding every part of the business.

“Be prepared to start at the bottom and work your way up. Learn from those around you. No matter how long you’ve been in this industry, you never stop learning,” she says.

Balancing the demands of running a business and maintaining a personal life is no easy feat, but Barb has a clear strategy—stay focused and work smart.

“I don’t procrastinate. I find the busier I am, the more productive I am. It’s about making the most of your working hours so you can enjoy life outside of them,” she says.

Through her boutique agency, Barb has carved out a space where professionalism meets genuine care, proving that success in real estate isn’t about how many properties you list, but how well you look after the people behind them.

A NEW PASSION, A NEW PATH

Lisa Collins’ journey into real estate began with a tactful shift from a dispassionate law degree to a dynamic career where her strengths shine. Explore Property Whitsunday has provided the perfect environment for her skills and ambition to thrive.

“Real estate has always sparked my interest. While I was deep into a law degree, I found myself lacking passion for it, so I made the bold decision to leave university and enrol in the REIQ real estate license course.”

With her background in legal administration and conveyancing, Lisa knew her process-driven nature and people skills would allow her to thrive in the industry. A connection with Steve Marks, the principal of Explore Property Whitsunday, further solidified her decision.

“Not long after we relocated to the Whitsundays from the NSW Central

Coast, my son became friends with Steve Marks’ son. I mentioned I was finishing my real estate license, and everything seemed to fall into place.”

Lisa believes building meaningful relationships and values the unique lifestyle and close-knit nature of the Whitsundays.

“It’s important to approach every relationship with kindness and respect,” Lisa says, “The Whitsunday community is unique—everyone seems interconnected in a way that’s special to small coastal towns.”

“If you have a genuine interest for anything in life, go for it. I’ve realised that if something doesn’t inspire you, it’s worth rethinking your path” says Lisa, “When I finally followed my passion, everything just clicked.”

A PASSION FOR ALL THINGS FINANCE & REAL ESTATE

with Kara Collins of Yellow Brick Road Home Loans,

– Mortgage Broking

Ten years is a long time to be in business, but in March that’s exactly what Kara Collins of Yellow Brick Road Home Loans in Mackay has achieved.

For someone who had a child at 18 and could have easily used that as an excuse, she used it to spur her on and achieve.

“With having a baby so young, I was responsible for the future of myself.

“Having my son Ashton was a challenge but it was also the reason I pushed myself constantly to always do better.

“I am so proud of the amazing young man he is today, and also of myself for being strong enough to always have his back and do the best I could for him,” Kara explains.

Kara, who never leaves her black cherry lip balm behind, has a real estate licence and manages the operations of short-term rentals. She is also a buyer’s agent assisting other investors and really enjoys real estate.

“I love real estate and always have.

“I fit it around mortgage broking, finding they work really well together. I’ve been actively investing in property and growing a portfolio for the last nine years and love nothing more than helping others do the same,” she says.

Outside of business, Kara enjoys a Friday afternoon cocktail but more often than not, she’s spending time with her family and friends.

“We love to go to the beach or the parks around the region or having snacks by our pool. There is nothing better than spending time with loved ones. I also can’t help myself with projects around our home or renovating a property here and there when I get the time to.”

Like most women, Kara juggles business and family, finding it challenging at times, but finds great support in her parents, especially her mum who is also a big part of her businesses.

“It’s always a challenge with children and running businesses to juggle everything. However, having a business also brings a lot of flexibility that I wouldn’t have if I had a full-time job, so I am so grateful to be able to do everything I am.”

“My mother has always shown me from a young age that you can be a strong woman and achieve your career goals while having a family. You really can have it all,” she adds.

Q: What are your words of wisdom?

A: “Most people love to tell me how lucky I am or how wonderful it must be, but the truth is it’s a lot of long hours, stress, and self-reflection. On the other hand, it allows you to change and adapt to your life, your goals, and your family. You have to back yourself, stick to your vision and don’t give up.”

Where Property Dreams Come True

With Tammy Laval

From Mackay City Property

Tammy Laval has cemented her place in the real estate industry, with integrity, humility and heart during her 17 years working behind the scenes with a highly prominent team.

As the heart of Mackay City Property, she manages the essential and support tasks that often go unnoticed, working ‘under the radar’ to drive the team’s success. Notably, the team recently secured the Rate My Agent awards for No.1 Property Management Team and Top 5 Property Sales Team for Mackay 2025.

Tammy believes this success stems from three key pillars: people, passion, and purpose.

“I love our team, and the people within it,” she says with a smile.

“We’re like a family, within a family.”

In 2007, Tammy and her husband, Chris, made the bold decision to split from a business partnership and relaunch as a familyrun agency. In 2021, they transitioned from a franchise group to an independent business, giving them the freedom to create something unique of their own.

Interestingly, Tammy’s entry into real estate wasn’t exactly planned. Following her family’s sudden heartbreaking loss of her mother to cancer, she stepped up and into the business to assist with its operational and administrative setup.

“I had no experience in real estate – I just winged it,” she laughs. But her background in hospitality, event management, marketing, and small business operations later laid the foundation for success.

“Currently, the scope of my work centres around an operational role, collaborating with bookkeepers, accountants, advertisers, computer technicians, and other like professionals to ensure the effective delivery of our team’s services.

“The diversity makes each day slightly different, and I love that,” she says.

“When things go wrong, it keeps me on my toes and it helps me to stay creative in solving problems.”

Whether it’s watching her children thrive, or celebrating milestones with her team, Tammy believes challenges ultimately pave the way for greatness.

“Every challenge comes with a reward,” she says.

“They circle each other, and that’s how I see it.”

Above all, Tammy loves working within her community. In fact, recently, she had the honour of helping revive Mackay’s art trail with The Bee Mindful Mural, and even led the Chinatown project with Mky City Heart Collective as project leader.

“It was lovely to bring back some of Mackay’s history that many weren’t aware of,” she says.

“The project had so much heart and soul.”

It’s no surprise her name was nominated for the Just Saying Project’s Magic Muse Awards 2025, set to take place in March.

Tammy sees life as a beautiful cycle of growth, giving back, and discovering new adventures.

“I think you go through stages – finding yourself, building your career, then focusing on family – and eventually, you reach a point where you can give back.

“When you give to the community, you feel that love return, and to me, that’s interchangeable… that’s where you’ll see the shine in me.”

Among the highlights of her career is witnessing the joy of first-time homebuyers.

“I love seeing the excitement on the buyers’ faces, especially first-home buyers, when they move into their home.”

Angela also values the community-cantered approach of working within a family-owned business.

“Being a family-owned business encourages a community mindset, where our clients are members of our community, and we want to do the best we can to help them achieve their real estate goals,” Angela explained.

Recognising the demands of today’s market, Angela knows that honesty is essential.

“I believe in honesty and integrity – not telling people what they want to hear,” she said.

As a reputable agent at Mackay City Property, Angela knows the importance of balance.

Whether it’s enjoying her oceanfront views, strolling along the beach, or cooking a homemade meal, she ensures she’s refreshed and ready to bring a fresh perspective to serve both buyers and sellers in the region like no other.

“Always go with your inner voice.”

“I want success for them, and it’s wonderful to watch the journey.”

Uncovering the perfect work life balance has led Sandra to enjoy plenty of quality time with loved ones as well as an active lifestyle where she’s often exploring the great outdoors, meeting new people, trail running, and cycling.

“I always make sure I have something to look forward to, being a marathon, trail run event, or family holiday as it gives me the drive to do well at work so I can reap the rewards of hard work in the office.”

Consistency and resilience are values Sandra intertwines into her professional duties and describes her position with Mackay City Property as dynamic, challenging and rewarding.

“We all genuinely enjoy what we do and it’s rewarding to receive consistent feedback that our clients are happy,” added Sandra. “Consistency is key, and honesty is invaluable.”

“It’s extremely rewarding helping people find their dream homes as well as achieving great results for sellers and beating their expectations,” shared Toni.

Toni’s interests in architecture and design shines through in her commendable abilities to present client’s homes for sale and she never fails to offer her honest advice on how clients can achieve the best possible outcomes across the selling process.

“You need to have fantastic communication

and people skills and to be able to read people and deliver personalised service for different individuals – confidence and keeping up to date with local market trends are a must!”

Over the course of her career, Toni reflects on one experience in particular with an elderly client who felt as though the sale of his home would not cover the expenses of moving into an aged care facility.

“I reassured him I was going to sell his home for more than enough to cover his concerns, and to be able to bring him some peace in his later years and see him happily set up and being looked after was extremely lovely to see,” Toni explained.

“There is no place for negativity in real estate, and with a positive mindset and knowledge, business will come your way.

“I’ve always said you should leave a little sparkle wherever you go”

Eleni Karambasis’ passion and professionalism as Mackay City Property’s Licenced Agent draws from decades of experience in neighbouring positions in housing design, building, and project management.

SOLVING PROBLEMS AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Vanessa Allan sees herself as a trouble shooter, time management expert and mediator within her position as Portfolio Officer with Mackay City Property.

Although managing and maintaining a plethora of residential rental properties comes with a vast range of responsibilities, Vanessa works tirelessly to ensure her tenants secure a place to call home and explains she couldn’t do it without the support of her colleagues.

“The team I work with play a massive role in keeping my positive mindset, and if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to do it – we are like no other,” explained Vanessa.

“Being a part of a team that works so well together, and being able to assist both tenants and landlords through the process is what I love the most about my job.”

Vanessa intertwines both resilience and conflict resolution into her day-to-day duties to navigate instances where she

may need to deliver difficult information to clients in the areas of repairs, maintenance or in the most unfortunate circumstances, advising tenants to vacate a property.

However, in leaning on her colleagues, family and friends, Vanessa practices patience to continue working towards a successful outcome for each and every tenant.

When the workday concludes, Vanessa often sets aside plenty of time to make memories with her loved ones and particularly favours mini adventures as her go to activities.

Vanessa’s career continues to reward her in new and exciting ways each day, and one moment she reflects on fondly was when she gratefully received her first online review, a feeling she hopes to continue replicating.

“Trust the process.”

“Equally important is setting personal goals, celebrating small and large wins equally, continuing to learn and surround myself with supportive colleagues all of which keeps me inspired and energised.”

“By maintaining a positive mindset, I focus on the fulfilling aspects of my work, engage with each client’s unique needs, and strive to help them achieve their goals. My aim is to consistently deliver excellent customer service and value,” added Eleni.

One of Eleni’s most memorable experiences was when selling a Stately Queenslander brimming with charm, grandeur and timeless elegance. The family who owned the property wanted to find a buyer who would truly appreciate and treasure its charm and history.

It was an incredibly special time when matched with a beautiful couple who shared a deep connection to the property’s history and character and felt the same deep connection to the property, ensuring the home’s legacy would continue to be cherished.

PANEL WORK WITH PURPOSE

From growing up with minimal knowledge of cars to now driving success behind the scenes of the workshop floor, Andrea McCarthy is hammering stereotypes and repairing trust at McCarthy Panel Works.

“I knew very little about cars, the repair industry or insurance…but I had to be determined and I learned fast.”

It wasn’t until after welcoming her firstborn with husband Craig McCarthy that she entered the family business. Since then, her fascination for the automotive repair industry has kindled a passion for innovation and change.

“So many repair shops do things ‘the way they always have’ without asking why.

“I have developed into a very outspoken industry representative who will challenge a preconceived normal…if there is no logical reason for it.”

For Andrea, a regular day at the panel shop involves consulting clients, liaising with assessors and insurance companies, attending online industry meetings, and managing the business’s finances.

“Like most business owners, I wear a variety of hats!”

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt in business is that people do not always say what they mean, nor do they mean what they say.”

“Yet I still find the industry fascinating.”

Knocking down stereotypes and delivering quality service is the main focus for Andrea and the team.

Andrea understands the loss, grief, and financial pressure that often looms long after the accident, that’s why McCarthy Panel Works is dedicated to providing quality service with care.

“Having an accident is never planned.”

“It comes with a sense of loss or grief and financial pressure, so guiding clients through options and explaining what to do is what I love most about my job.”

As a woman in the trade, Andrea has faced her own challenges but values the different strengths men and women bring to the industry.

“I still get the odd few people that make assumptions based on gender, but it says more

about them than me.”

“Men and women think differently; sometimes it’s the different approach that reshapes outcomes.

“A cross-section of industry leaders is important to achieve a more balanced approach.”

With Andrea fuelling innovation at McCarthy Panel Works, the automotive repair industry is being reshaped, refined, and steered toward a new future.

BURNING UP THE FURNITURE INDUSTRY

With Issy Burnup From Burnups Furniture Court

Step into the world of Burnups Furniture Court, where seven decades of family tradition seamlessly blend with the ever-evolving landscape of style. From cutting-edge modern designs to timeless classics that never go out of fashion, Burnups has become the ultimate destination for furniture in the Whitsundays. With an unwavering passion for quality and an intuitive understanding of what every home needs, Burnups truly offers something for everyone.

Founded in 1950, the family-run business has been passed down through the generations. Today, current owner Clive Burnup proudly welcomes daughter Issy into the fold to continue the Burnups legacy.

Issy has taken the reins of Burnups’ commercial operations, working closely with clients on Hamilton Island and several local resorts. Under her leadership, this aspect of the business has evolved into Burnups’ Design Division, a name she not only created but also paired with a website she personally developed.

As Issy reflects on her journey, she’s grateful for the opportunity to inject a more contemporary edge into the furniture selections she curates for her clients. At the same time, she maintains a deep appreciation for the timeless appeal of classic, old-school pieces, such as the iconic recliners from Lazyboy. Burnups continues to proudly serve as an exclusive Lazyboy gallery, honouring those enduring favourites.

For Issy, a key piece of advice has shaped her success: “Remain level-headed, think things through before acting or speaking, and avoid knee-jerk reactions.”

With a background in both music and interior design, Issy’s diverse skill set complements her entrepreneurial spirit. Having once toured with rock bands around Brisbane, she has always found inspiration in powerful female rockers like Alanis Morissette.

However, for Issy, her ultimate role model has always been her mother, who has worked in the business for 25 years. Unfortunately, due to a cancer diagnosis, Jen has stepped back and Issy has stepped up to take over her mother’s role. Another role model for Issy has been her father, Clive, who is a wealth of knowledge, and has run the business for over 50 years and continues to do so. Issy and Clive have worked together closely as a team to continue growing the family business.

Amid her busy schedule, Issy is committed to carving out time for herself. “I work six days a week, so it’s a lot, but I always make sure to take time off when I can. It’s important to step away, get out, and do things that recharge you,” she shares.

Issy explained how the most important thing for this line of business is being able to get on with all walks of life:

“In the industry, you’ve got a variety of ages, genders, and just mindsets, its being able to get along with anyone.”

“As we are a family business, we go out of our way to make sure that every customer is happy.”

Q: What advice would you give to another woman looking to start or grow their own business?

A: “I think a common thing people think is that you’ve got to lose your feminine touch. What they mistake that for is being tough. Of course, you’ve got to be tough, but you don’t have to lose your femininity.”

Q: What’s an item that’s always in your handbag?

A: “Funnily enough, a Stanley knife, we have them here to cut open all the bags furniture comes in, whenever I go to the airport, I have to remember to take it out!”

Q: What’s something about yourself that not many people know?

A: “Even though I write and play music, I am partially deaf.” furniturecourt.com.au

LEADING WITH PURPOSE

Running a resort isn’t just about luxury; it’s about the people who make it unforgettable.

At Coral Sea Resort, General Manager Dawn Romanella creates a thriving workplace culture and drives sustainable initiatives, ensuring both staff and guests have exceptional experiences.

In an industry known for high turnover, Dawn focuses on employee satisfaction, knowing that a happy team leads to outstanding guest experiences.

“People are the heart of this business. If our team isn’t happy, that energy filters through to the guest experience. We’ve put a real focus on making Coral Sea Resort a great place to work.”

Having worked her way up through various hospitality roles, Dawn’s hands-on experience has shaped her leadership style.

“I’ve been in their shoes! I know what it’s like to be on the floor during a packed-out service or to manage behind the scenes. That experience helps me connect with the team and understand what they need to succeed. Leadership isn’t about just calling the shots—it’s about lifting people up and helping them grow.”

Sustainability is a core value at Coral Sea Resort, with the team constantly seeking ways to reduce their environmental impact. From minimising waste and using eco-friendly products to implementing energy-efficient practices, they are

committed to responsible operations.

“We introduced a pool towel token system to cut down on unnecessary washing, and we’re sourcing more local ingredients for our restaurant. Little things add up, and we want to make sure guests can enjoy their stay knowing we’re doing our part.”

While focusing on sustainability, the resort still maintains luxury.

“Sustainability and luxury can absolutely go hand in hand. People don’t want to sacrifice comfort, but they do appreciate thoughtful choices—like using locally made, high-quality products rather than mass-produced ones. We focus on making smart changes that feel natural, not forced.”

Dawn says what sets Coral Sea Resort apart is the guest experience, stunning views and fantastic staff members.

“It’s the warm, personal service that keeps people coming back. We don’t want guests to just ‘stay’ here—we want them to feel connected, relaxed, and genuinely taken care of.”

Q: What’s one item that’s always in your handbag?

A: Lipstick, always! It’s surprisingly versatile— great for a quick touch-up, a pop of colour, or in desperate times, even a makeshift blush.

Q: Do you follow any inspirational women online?

A: “I listen to a mix of podcasts—some insightful, some purely for entertainment. I love Chelsea Handler and Alex Cooper for their boldness and humour, and when I need something more thought-provoking, Mel Robbins always has great advice on resilience and mindset.”

Q: Have you had any wonderful women role models in your life, like a mentor, who helped you achieve success?

A: “I’ve been lucky to have strong women around me at every stage of life. There has always been someone I could lean on—whether it was a mentor who challenged me, a colleague who had my back, or my family, who have been my greatest source of strength (and unsolicited advice). Their influence has shaped how I lead, problem-solve, and navigate challenges. I truly believe success isn’t just about personal achievements but about the people who support, challenge, and inspire you along the way.”

WOMEN IN

LEADING THE WAY FOR 30 FABULOUS YEARS

With Linda Berry, from Berry Excavations

Owner and managing director of Berry Excavations, Linda Berry, has seen it all.

In a male-dominated industry, she’s stood shoulder to shoulder alongside her male peers and not only survived but thrived.

Servicing the Whitsundays for 30 years in civil construction, Linda has a team of widely experienced long-term local employees who specialise in developments, land subdivisions, roadbuilding, general earthworks and more, across Government, commercial and domestic sectors.

For a former clothing designer, it could be daunting to supervise 20 males when you’re in your twenties and starting out in construction, but not Linda. In fact, she relished the challenge.

“Sometimes you have to open the doors and forge your own path forward. While I would have loved to have a female mentor in my life, I ended up just finding my own way,” she says proudly.

But it’s not all about running a successful business and being in charge of several men for Linda, either. She loves seeing family and

catching live music, too.

“I love catching up with family and friends and because I come from a family of musicians, I really enjoy music festivals, and live artists, or just listening to music.

While she didn’t have any female mentors, she is inspired by women who dare to challenge the status quo and break down barriers, as she explains.

“There are many inspirational women and men throughout history, but one standout for me is Amelia Earhart, who was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. I am so inspired by her breaking down barriers in the aviation industry and encouraging women to pursue careers in male-dominated industries.”

Q: For someone whose next adventure is in the Canadian Rockies and Wyoming on horseback, what advice would she give to a teenager wanting a similar career?

A: “Create clear and achievable goals and take action to get there. Back yourself and believe in your ability. Get support and good advice.

Learn and educate yourself with books, podcasts, courses, and people working in your chosen industry.

“Most of all, own it! There will be challenges, so use those to learn and create change. But also remember to be kind to yourself as breaking barriers is sometimes uncomfortable.

Q: What would you have done differently?

A: “I never look back, only forward. I’m always looking for better ways of doing things, but if I were to have done some things differently, then it wouldn’t have brought me to who I am today,” she states.

“Life is meant to be enjoyed. Surround yourself with people who support you and who bring you joy and be that person for them as well.”

DIVING INTO WORLD-CLASS PHOTOGRAPHY

Brooke Miles the owner and curator of the Above and Below Gallery at Port Of Airlie, is going beyond the cliches of women in photography by turning her captivating photographic artwork into a thriving business. Since working in a camera shop at sixteen and falling in love with her high school’s dark room, Brooke has grown into a powerhouse professional photographer.

“I have always loved photography, when I was younger, it was become a photographer, a marine biologist or a drummer! So, I went with photography!”

Brooke is very proud of how far she has come, as a small business and gallery owner, in keeping a strong head when challenges arise and always acting on good advice.

“I’m actually really proud that I’m still going and have survived all the ups and downs the last 20 years has thrown at me!” shared Brooke. “I’m also proud of the fact I get to employ a small team, providing a great work environment and putting food on their tables!”

Brooke is always looking to improve upon her skills and growing her gallery business through

strong connections here in the Whitsundays and abroad. Handpicked selections of her masterful photography adorn the walls of her intimate gallery in the Port of Airlie marina precinct, where guests can browse works from both local sites of natural beauty, and those from around the world. Sink into the quiet depths of the Eungella rainforest, swim along with a turtle as it glides through the reef or go sky-high with stunning aerial shots that show the true majesty of nature. Fall in love with one of Brooke’s images and you can take it home with you. Framed to perfection, packed as a print, or perhaps even a set of coasters, Above and Below offers artwork to suit almost any budget.

Partnering with her own father, Mark Miles Design, and also local artist Kate Schuler to bring jewellery and ceramics to her gallery, along with an extensive gift and souvenir line of her own, Brooke adds depth and style to the retail experience.

“I love it when I start to think up a new idea or shift in the business, and then all of a sudden, the phone rings, or I receive an email to that very subject... it’s crazy but it’s happened often enough to notice!”

When Brooke is not leaning out the door of a helicopter doing aerial shots of the islands, or snorkelling with turtles to photograph their calm majesty, she loves to travel and visit new places, capturing more of their wonderful scenes. As such, she is constantly taking new photographs and updating her website and hanging stock with new prints, so each time you step through her gallery doors you will see something new from her latest adventure.

“I’m pretty good at taking time off but I’m also very lucky that my work is my passion.”

Brooke is constantly motivated by her passion for photography, saying it’s a thrilling work-life balance of exhilarating adventure and relaxing natural beauty. She’s always moving forward, proud to be the go-to gallery for nature art in North Queensland, both instore and also online at www.aboveandbelowgallery.com.au

BEAUTY, BUSINESS & BOLD MOVES WITH NADINE

BECKER FROM ELLA BACHÉ

Some women make an entrance, but Nadine Becker makes an impact.

As the owner of Ella Baché Mackay, she’s not just redefining skincare—she’s elevating the entire beauty experience. Approaching seven years of business ownership and instigating a gamechanging move to a larger, more tranquil space in Wood Street, Nadine is proving that when passion meets expertise, the results are nothing short of radiant.

“The space is so peaceful and private—it’s a sanctuary,” she says.

This expansion hasn’t just been about square footage—it’s about what’s possible. The larger premises means tailored couples’ experiences are now a reality, where ‘his and her’ treatments can be perfectly matched.

“It’s all about designing the perfect experience for them both,” Nadine explains.

It’s this belief that beauty isn’t one-size-fits-all that sets Ella Baché apart.

“No two skins are alike. ‘Bespoke’ gets thrown around a lot, but that’s how we’ve always worked.

“Every treatment is tailored to the individual.”

One of the latest advancements on offer is the Japanese head spa, where a halo of water delivers a hypnotic, stress-melting massage experience.

“It’s next level relaxation,” she says.

From traditional beauty to cutting-edge aesthetics, Nadine and her team of five diploma-qualified therapists deliver expertise across all aspects of skincare and body care. Microneedling has become one of the clinic’s most in-demand treatments, working beneath the surface to activate collagen, smooth fine lines, and rejuvenate tired skin.

And while innovation is key, so is legacy. Nadine is passionate about mentoring the next generation of beauty therapists, employing three school-based trainees who offer reduced-cost treatments under the guidance of her senior team.

“It’s about giving them hands-on experience in a real salon setting. Plus, clients can get an amazing $50 spa pedicure or a $30 massage while supporting the next wave of talent,” she says.

For anyone wanting to break into the industry, her advice is simple: never stop learning.

“You can’t get complacent in this business. Trends change, techniques evolve—if you don’t keep up, you get left behind,” she says.

It’s this relentless pursuit of growth that keeps Nadine at the top of her game, and it’s a mindset reinforced by her fiancé, Frank, who has been both her biggest cheerleader and business mentor.

“He’s the one who always tells me to back myself. Take the plunge. Take the risks,” she says.

As the couple prepares for their destination wedding in Maleny this August, Nadine is embracing the crisp hinterland air as the perfect backdrop for their big day.

And while she may be all about beauty, there’s a toughness beneath the polish.

She’s a touch rugby and netball player, raised by a woman who could out-fish any bloke.

“My mum was fearless, and had the biggest heart,” she says.

“She took in other kids even when we didn’t have much to give.”

That spirit of resilience, generosity, and drive is woven into everything Nadine does.

Because at the end of the day, beauty isn’t just about glowing skin—it’s about strength, confidence, and the courage to take on the world.

What’s your go-to cooking crowd-pleaser?

“I recently taught myself how to make a chicken and mushroom risotto because Frank loves it. I also make a mean green Thai chicken curry.”

DEPTH OF VIEW

Photography has been a lifelong passion for Robyn Bonner, one that is fuelled by a love of art and creativity that runs deep in her family. With 16 years of experience in the Whitsundays, Robyn has built a thriving business, R Jean Photography.

“Photography kind of found me. Growing up a country kid, art and creativity were always a part of my life—my grandmother was an artist, and my mum always had a camera in hand.”

Robyn started her career capturing moments aboard the Fantasy ship Ammari. After the ship’s closure, she transitioned into a PA role at a local real estate agency, where she began photographing properties. In 2014, Robyn partnered with another photographer to refine her skills in portrait, family, and wedding photography, and four years later launched her own business.

“I decided to launch R Jean Photography in 2018. In the beginning, I worked part-time, balancing my business while expanding my skills through self-learning. Over time, I built a loyal client base and gradually grew my business.”

Robyn is particularly proud of the ‘Driveway Project,’ which she brought to the Whitsundays

during the 2020 lockdown. This initiative, started by Francesca Fuga Photography, aimed to uplift the community during the challenging time.

“It was like creating a family portrait of the Whitsundays, offering a chance for everyone to connect, share moments, and find a little joy during such a tough period.”

Despite the challenges of running a business full-time as a single parent, Robyn has remained committed to her work, juggling long hours and family responsibilities. Her dedication to providing for her family while growing her business demonstrates her resilience.

“It takes an incredible amount of self-belief and determination. Balancing my business, family, and home without support requires constant sacrifice and hard work, but it’s something I’m deeply committed to.”

For Robyn, “As a photographer, creating a positive and professional experience while connecting with clients on a personal level is essential for building trust and creating a comfortable environment. This not only results in beautiful photos but also fosters long-term relationships and repeat business.” She says. Robyn cherishes every moment spent with her

children, as these moments allow her to recharge and return to work with renewed energy.

“I maintain a balance of work and my personal life by carefully managing my schedule around my children’s school and activities, ensuring I can be present for them. Family getaways, particularly camping trips, allow us to disconnect from the daily hustle and reconnect with nature.”

“Trust in your abilities and pursue your passion with confidence,” says Robyn, reflecting on her business journey. “Starting your own business takes hard work, but it’s important to stay true to your vision and not be afraid to adapt along the way.”

What’s your afternoon pick-me-up?

“An afternoon walk along the beach or boardwalk. That or a power nap!”

Favourite place you’ve visited and why?

“The Bungle Bungles in the Purnululu National Park WA. Camping under the stars and exploring the beauty of the area was something unforgettable.”

GROWN FROM THE HOME Airlie Health Hub

In a world filled with pesticides, harsh chemicals, and mass-produced food, Airlie Health Hub takes you back to basics, offering a refreshing alternative with real wholesome foods, a vibrant community, and fresh garden produce that will transform the way you live.

At the helm of this soul-enriching vessel is Hayley Moran, whose personal journey through the world of health has led her to cultivate a warm and mindful community, one that shops with intention and values the quality of what they put into their bodies.

Hayley’s journey is one of self-discovery and perseverance. Growing up on the Sunshine Coast, Hayley was fortunate to grow up around primary producers and was immersed in a conscious community, “We got honey from the honey lady, the milkmen lived down the end of my road, there were lots of small community businesses.”

After arriving in Airlie Beach at just 19 years old, Hayley was shocked to find that the wholesome culture she had known on the Sunshine Coast did not exist locally. As she tried to adapt to the lifestyle of the Whitsundays, she faced her own health challenges, an experience that ultimately inspired her to create change in both her own life and within the community.

Having met her husband and now business partner, Paul, while working in the tourism industry, the couple opened Airlie Health Hub and love nothing more than advising and helping the community on all things health and organic produce. Not only are her customers valued and treated like family, the couple take pride in the friendships they have formed with local suppliers. They often head out onto the land for some hands-on interaction with the produce they sell, harvesting produce and fully understanding the process. That way, they can appreciate the food’s journey into their store and onto their shelves.

Hoping to drive away the stigma behind pricing and organic food, Hayley and Paul aim to make organic food accessible to all while educating the community on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. With their fresh and vibrant shop as clean as their produce, the pair stock it with competitively priced organic lamb and beef mince, vibrant and fresh local fruits and vegetables, and organic dry goods, household items and more. Many items are carefully placed in recycled clear glass jars lovingly brought in by customers.

Hayley has used her healthy childhood to formulate a nutritious and wholesome Whitsunday community and wants women looking to enact change and begin their own ventures in the community to never let fear hold them back.

“Never let fear stop you from achieving your goals and surround yourself with people that hold the same interests” she explained, having battled with fear herself for four years prior to opening Airlie Health Hub.

Paul and Hayley cultivate a welcoming and positive atmosphere at Airlie Health Hub, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to educate and grow a larger community of consciously healthy individuals.

What’s an item you always have in your handbag that you can’t go a day without?

“Sea moss, oregano oil, clearing spray.”

“These are also all available to buy in my shop.” facebook.com/airliehealthhub

With Lani Hilder from Glow Getter Therapy

Walking as a beam of joy, Lani Hilder has turned her darkness into light, and now she’s on a mission to help others do the same. A centred woman of courage and elegance, Lani is the Embodied Well-Being Consultant of Glow Getter Therapy.

What is an embodied well-being consultant you may ask? A specialist who helps individuals and businesses cultivate emotional resilience, nervous system regulation, and sustainable well-being practices.

This is made possible through a combination of trauma-informed education, processing, and strategic workplace interventions, to foster environments where people feel safe, supported, and empowered. By addressing underlying stressors and promoting holistic health, an Embodied Well-Being Consultant enhances both personal fulfillment and professional success.

Her work is a combination of science and soul!

“I help people feel… be… and have more of what they want and less of what they don’t,” she says simply.

Lani’s journey started in the Bowen Basin mining industry, as a director of WEL Industries for many years, before stepping into her true calling.

She has faced extreme life circumstances—experiencing major crisis and pain. She was her own first case study, searching for something more and discovering the very techniques she now uses to help others.

Drawing from her lived experience and professional training in holistic counselling, somatic therapy, and nervous system regulation, Lani helps people shed the layers of exhaustion, pain, frustration, guilt, and self-doubt that so often come with the challenges of life.

She even developed a program called MindGuard Pro, which trains people in crisis response and crisis after care. This helps businesses facing mental health challenges support employees and first responders during crises or after traumatic events.

Lani understands that burnout and secondary trauma often forms in the aftermath of high-stress situations without proper processes and support, and that’s why she’s passionate about ensuring people have the tools to process their experiences in a healthy way. The flow-on effects? Increased results, higher profits, and greater safety.

She believes that people are a company’s greatest asset—and when they feel heard, seen, and appreciated, businesses thrive.

Through her services, clients report feeling lighter, more in control, and deeply connected to themselves in ways they never thought possible.

“One of my clients felt a heavy weight on her shoulders and heart, but after our session, her life began to drastically change in many ways,” Lani shared.

“She said it was like putting on magic glasses – seeing and feeling everything differently,”

Through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and her growing online presence, Lani is proving that balance isn’t a myth, healing is possible, and success doesn’t have to come at the cost of everything else.

With a mission to leave a legacy of joy, Lani aims to be the light for those who feel lost in the dark.

“I show you and your people that you don’t have to dim your light to make space for everything else.

“You can glow—fully, unapologetically, and on your own terms.” glowgettertherapy.com

WOMEN IN

CONFIDENCE AND CONNECTION

WITH CORISSA IVORY

Corissa Ivory’s love for makeup began with her grandmother’s beauty wisdom, transforming simple tips into a lifelong passion. What started as a young girl playfully picking up a brush soon became the spark for a thriving career.

Now, as the proud owner of Funk It Up, she’s turning confidence into an art form, helping others look and feel their best every day.

“When I started doing my own makeup, my Nanna made sure I knew how to apply my makeup appropriately for work. She purchased me all the products…and I’ve loved the transformation makeup can create ever since.”

Corissa finds great fulfilment in enhancing her clients’ beauty and building connections along the way.

“Every woman has their own sense of challenge or struggle that they’re facing, and if you can relate or offer support, it builds an honest connection. It’s so important that women don’t lose that.”

Corissa believes that every woman has something valuable to teach, and instead of just one role model, she draws inspiration from each woman she meets.

“Whether it’s business owners, mums or teenagers –everyone’s got a cool story that’s inspiring, and it’s

amazing what you can discover in 45 minutes doing someone’s makeup.”

She even jokes that her eyebrow appointments are full of great conversations, with meaningful chats unfolding in just 20 minutes.

“It’s really all about that connection. Every female I come into contact with inspires me in some way.”

Corissa says that true success in the beauty industry comes from focusing on the clients, not the industry itself. She encourages others to prioritise meeting clients’ needs and making them feel welcome, comfortable, and beautiful, rather than just being driven by products or trends.

“You just need to have a passion for making people feel good.”

Corissa’s pride and joy is her son, Logan, who inspires her every day with his ambition and impressive achievements, including his involvement with the Mackay Youth Council and the Young Mayors Program.

“He’s kicking goals I couldn’t even imagine at his age,” Corissa says with a proud mum smile. When she’s not in the salon, Corissa enjoys unwinding with a good book or exploring nature with Logan, always finding balance and joy in both her personal and professional life.

A beauty product you can’t live without?

“My Harlotte Eyebrow Threesome or Modelrock Brow powder…and an angle brush.”

“I love going for day trips to Finch Hatton Gorge for a peaceful bushwalk with my son.”

A STORY OF STRENGTH, RESILIENCE, EMPOWERMENT

With Trish O’Sing and Kenley Collett from Luxe Whitsundays

In 2015, Trish O’Sing founded Luxe with a clear vision – to empower women. Through her innovative 12-month self-development and modelling program, she helped women of all ages build self-love and confidence.

“I suffered from Interstitial Cystitis, which impacted my confidence and created a rollercoaster of anxiety and depression. I wanted to teach others how to push through difficulties and embrace discomfort because that’s where the magic happens.”

One of the many women uplifted by Luxe was Kenley Collett, who joined the program in 2018 after the birth of her second child while battling post-natal depression.

“I was born with congenital hip dysplasia and have severe scarring from surgeries throughout my life. After having my children, I longed to love and be proud of the woman I saw in the mirror. Trish was an inspiration—her determination and confidence were infectious. I wanted to learn everything I could to feel the same way.”

In 2019, Trish made the decision to close Luxe to focus on family, welcoming her daughter, Kensley. “Her name was a tribute to Kenley—the incredible woman I watched fight to rebuild herself.”

Then in 2024 both women faced new battles that tested their resilience. Kenley underwent a full hip replacement, embarking on a journey to regain her independence. Out of this challenge, she launched Kenley Collective Lifestyle Boutique. “I wanted to create an income to support my family and be a role model for my children, showing them that determination wins.”

The same year Trish endured a family breakdown and six months later, was diagnosed with aggressive ovarian and uterine tumours. A full hysterectomy was required. “It was the scariest and hardest time of my life—a time that forced deep reflection and self-discovery.”

Trish reopened Luxe and the women reconnected deciding to collaborate under Luxe Whitsundays, a sanctuary where women can escape daily stresses and reset their lives.

Kenley manages daily operations and serves as the friendly face that welcomes customers to Luxe. With Trish overseeing the Luxe Wellness Retreat, guiding clients through detox and cellular re-energising treatments while managing business operations.

“Kenley truly is the Yin to my Yang,” Trish shares. “Her vibrant personality keeps me grounded and reminds me of the beauty in every moment.”

Together, Trish and Kenley have turned their personal struggles into a mission to empower and uplift other women. Luxe Whitsundays stands as a testament to resilience, strength, and the unwavering belief that even through life’s toughest moments, transformation and success are always within reach.

IMPROVING LYMPHATIC FLOW AND OVERALL WELL-BEING

Through a combination of hands-on treatments, workshops, and wellness programs, Bowen Lymphatic Health & Wellness owner, Mardi Mandersloot’s focus is on ensuring her clients get the relief and support they need.

“I help people understand how their lymphatic and other body systems work together by focusing on improving lymphatic flow and overall well-being. My goal is to not only provide relief and support in the clinic but give clients the tools and knowledge they need to maintain their health and vitality,” Mardi expresses.

Mardi understands the importance of health, carrying the BRCA 2 gene mutation, which is her drive behind education on holistic health to support western medicine.

“This gene mutation is why I am so passionate about preventative health. After a mastectomy at 33 years of age and completely losing touch of who I am and what I stand for, I hit rock bottom,” she explains.

“It was a journey to get where I am today. It’s taught me that our circumstances do not define us.”

When she’s not assisting clients, Mardi’s known to love a good adventure. She once lived on the

BUILDING COMMUNITIES THROUGH MUSIC AND MOVEMENT WOMEN IN

Imagine a space where the rhythm of music meets the joy of sensory play, and families can unwind, connect, and grow together.

This is the world Tina Ramsland has crafted with Maggie Moo Music, a place where children light up to their favourite songs while parents can relax and enjoy the moment. But Tina is taking things a step further—she’s recently introduced The Little Party Place within her business, offering a vibrant venue where families can celebrate life’s special moments.

By combining music, movement, and now a dedicated party space, Tina is redefining how parents in Mackay experience both fun and community, creating a dynamic hub where learning, connection, and unforgettable memories are made.

With 25 years of experience in early childhood education, Tina’s journey has been shaped by a deep passion for helping children grow through sensory-rich music sessions. Through a combination of singing, dancing, and playing with props like puppets and scarves, Tina encourages self-expression and social

connection, while also allowing mums and dads a much-needed break.

She’s acutely aware of the challenges that local mothers face, balancing careers and family life, as she’s been there herself.

“I understand how hard it is to juggle everything, especially when you have a partner working away in the mines,” she shares.

The Little Party Place within the Gasworks, has quickly become a lively addition to Mackay’s family scene. This vibrant space offers more than just a place for celebrations—it’s an extension of the Maggie Moo Music philosophy, bringing rhythm, fun, and community into a new setting.

Tina’s journey is an inspiration to all women looking to start their own business. Her advice? Take it slow, trust your instincts, and enjoy the process.

“You have your whole life to perfect your business model,” she says, offering a reminder that growth, both personal and professional, is a lifelong journey.

Q: What is a mantra / quote you live by?

A: “An oldie but a goodie- “This too shall pass” because in today’s ever changing world it holds very true - everything is fleeting - both the good and the bad so there is no need to focus on either.”

Q: Do you have a beauty tip or product you can’t live without?

A: “Moisturiser and sunscreen! Growing up, I was told moisturiser clogged pores and sunscreen wasn’t necessary (how wrong I was!). Now, both are essential for keeping skin youthful, healthy, and wrinkle-free. It’s never too early to start!”

Q: What’s an item that’s always in your handbag?

A: “Baby wipes! My youngest is 6, but I still buy them in bulk. They’re perfect for everything from stain removal to cleaning sunglasses and even a quick car clean at the traffic lights—total life-saver!”

Originally from Germany, Josephine Carter's holiday to Australia turned into a whole new life. Within a month, she made the daring decision to stay in the land down under, knowing no one but ready to build something special. That leap of faith led to the thriving business she runs today.

With a camera in hand and an eye for the extraordinary, she has built a career capturing raw emotion, unfiltered joy, and those fleeting, magical moments that turn into lifelong memories.

Whether she’s shooting a dreamy Whitsundays wedding or helping a brand come to life with striking visuals, her approach is simple. “I’m all about capturing the real stuff,” she said.

STRONG GROWTH, INVESTMENT

INVESTMENT & OPPORTUNITY

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Ry Collins believes the region is entering an exciting new era of growth, opportunity, and prosperity.

“With record population growth, a booming tourism sector, and thriving industries in mining and agriculture, the Whitsundays is well-positioned to unlock its full economic potential,” Mayor Collins said.

As one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions, more people are choosing to live, work, and invest in the Whitsundays, drawn by its stunning landscapes, vibrant lifestyle, and expanding job opportunities.

“But with growth comes responsibility. This surge in population is increasing demand for housing, infrastructure, and essential services, making strategic planning more important than ever.

“That’s why Council is refining the Economic Development Strategy 2025–2030—a plan designed to build a stronger, more resilient, and diverse local economy,” Mayor Collins said.

This strategy will position the wider Whitsunday region as a hub for innovation and future-focused industries while continuing to strengthen its traditional economic pillars— agriculture, mining, and tourism.

To drive this vision forward, Council is excited to welcome Paul Hanlon as the new Manager of Investment Attraction and Growth.

“Paul brings extensive experience and a strong focus on attracting investment, building

strategic partnerships, and advocating for regional priorities at all levels of government. His expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the Whitsundays remains a competitive and attractive destination for business and industry,” Mayor Collins said.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Paul Hanlon sees huge potential in the Whitsundays and is eager to play a role in shaping its economic future.

“The Whitsundays is a region of opportunity, growth, and innovation. By working together— Council, businesses, and government—we can unlock investment, create jobs, and build a strong future,” Mr Hanlon said.

“Securing the right investments in infrastructure, industry diversification, and innovation will ensure the Whitsundays remains a leading destination for business, tourism, and sustainable development.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for our region, and I encourage everyone to get involved in the consultation process for the Economic Development Strategy 2025–2035. Your voice matters.

“By working together, we can create a stronger, more vibrant Whitsundays—a place where businesses flourish, industries thrive, and our community continues to grow and prosper,” Mr Hanlon said.

Now is the time to be part of this journey—have your say, get involved, and help shape the future of our region!

TURNING MASTERPLANS INTO REALITY

Mayor Collins stresses that now is the time to move from planning to action, ensuring vital infrastructure is delivered to support the Whitsunday region’s growing population.

"Council is actively advancing key masterplans, including the Airlie Beach Precinct, Bowen Foreshore, Cannonvale Community Hub, Whitsunday Regional Sports Precinct, and Whitsunday Coast Airport.

These projects are part of a broader initiative to plan 20-30 years ahead, ensuring our Whitsunday region is well-equipped to meet future demands.

"The $14.5 million Collinsville Community Hub is a game-changer for our remote rural community, providing vital infrastructure to support locals now and into the future.

"To support the Whitsundays’ continued growth as a thriving regional hub, we must deliver the key infrastructure and facilities our community needs.

"Ensuring accessible housing, adapting our tourism industry to emerging market trends, and positioning our region to capitalize on opportunities from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are all essential,” Mayor Collins said.

“Now is the time to invest in the future, strengthen our economy, and build a region that meets the needs of both residents and visitors for years to come."

Some women make headlines. Others make history in quieter ways—showing up, pushing through, and changing lives without fanfare. The JSP Women’s Awards were made for them.

As The Just Saying Project (JSP) marks 10 years of amplifying women’s voices, the 2025 awards will once again cast a spotlight on those who rarely seek it. With the International Women’s Day theme Accelerate Action setting the pace, this year’s celebration isn’t just about recognition—it’s about momentum. Because progress isn’t always loud, but it’s always worth celebrating.

JSP founder Fallon Drewett knows firsthand the power of storytelling in shaping a community.

“Every woman has a story worth telling,” she said.

“These awards aren’t just about the big wins—they’re about the small, everyday victories that create real change.”

For the past decade, JSP has been creating spaces where women can be heard, seen, and supported. From community projects to sold-out events, its impact has rippled far beyond Mackay. And as the awards enter their fourth year, the movement is only growing stronger.

The seven award categories highlight a diverse range of achievements, from the Resilient Rebel, honouring those who have turned adversity into strength, to the Magic Muse, celebrating women shaping the arts and media. A new category, The Woman Who Breaks the Mould, will be awarded to a nominee who embodies multiple qualities, someone whose influence defies a single definition.

“These awards are for the women who keep showing up—not for applause, but because it’s who they are,” Fallon said.

“It’s about recognising their magic, their resilience, and their quiet but powerful impact.”

And it’s not just about women. The Equaliser category acknowledges men who actively support, uplift, and advocate for the women in their lives. Because real progress happens when everyone is part of the conversation.

Last year, over 135 nominations poured in, proving how many remarkable women are making a difference behind the scenes. This year’s event, set for March 29 at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, promises to be more than a ceremony—it’s a statement. A night of connection, recognition, and celebration.

Fallon extended her gratitude to sponsors, including Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and BMA, whose support helps turn this vision into reality.

“Great things don’t just happen in big cities,” she said.

“They happen in communities like ours, where people lift each other up.”

The JSP Women’s Awards remind us that recognition isn’t just about who wins—it’s about making sure every woman’s story has a place to be heard.

LOST TOUCH WITH YOUR SUPER?

Did someone set you up some super and insurance years ago and you’ve lost touch with them?

You are probably paying way too much for something you need a lot less of. If your accounting firm or financial planner down South set you up with a super product and some life and income protection insurance, it should be reviewed at least every 5 years.

In simple terms personal insurances are designed to provide money in the event of Death, Disability or Medical Trauma having a major impact on you and your financial journey through life. When we’re younger we often have big mortgages and lots of mouths to feed and very little real wealth built up in super or other investments. This is when we need high levels of insurance. As we get older the kids grow up, the debts come down and we accumulate more wealth in super and investments. So, it follows we need less insurance.

Insurance premiums rise dramatically as you get older and get crazy when you enter your 50’s and 60’s. If you’re not reducing the sums insured the premiums go through the roof.

Financial Planners have formulas for working out the right levels of insurance for you and your current personal situation. Generally, the right amount of cover decreases as you advance through life, so we can assist with reducing your cover and premiums. This means you have more to go towards your major goals like paying off debt and increasing your super and investments for retirement.

Financial Planners have an obligation to review their client’s situation and reassess their cover as they go through life, but many don’t follow this through. They just keep raking in the commission. If you’ve moved North and have lost touch with your advisers, you need to sort something out. Often the premiums on your insurance are coming out of your super and you

don’t realise. People are often devastated when they look at their super before retirement and realise how much lower their balance is than it should be as huge amounts have been going out in insurance premiums every year.

If you have Life Insurance, Income Protection or a super plan set up years ago and your advisers haven’t taken the time to review them, give us a call. We’ll talk you through the process and make sure you’re not paying one cent more than you need to and everything is on track for your financial future.

Don’t try and DIY it, come in and talk it over with some locals.

If you think you could benefit from a discussion with a Financial Planner, give us a call on 49467359 of visit www.eclipsefp.com.au There’s no obligation, the first meeting is free and all fees are spelled out clearly in advance.

FTURNING AWARENESS INTO ACTION

MACKAY ROTARY CLUBS TAKE A STAND AGAINST DV

It Starts with RESPECT. Say NO to Domestic and Family Violence

or some, purple is just a colour, but to others, it symbolises courage, peace and survival.

Domestic and family violence knows no barriers, often hidden within the walls of a place called “home” – yet to many it strips all sense of safety, leaving lasting trauma to linger along with the scars that often go unseen and untold.

Thankfully, organisations like the Rotary Clubs of Mackay and Resource Industry Network are working to make Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) no longer a “taboo” subject but rather a conversation about prevention and empowerment.

Rotary Clubs around the Mackay district have made it their mission to educate the region, particularly young men in schools, through the Betterment Project, which fosters early intervention and positive change.

DVF Project Manager Michal Buckeridge from the Rotary Club of Mackay said the organisation was deeply concerned about the number of women losing their lives.

“We connected with the CQU Domestic and Family Violence Research Unit, and they pointed out that while many programs focus on picking

up the pieces, no one was running a communitydriven preventative program,” Mr Buckeridge said.

“This is where we step in - our goal is to create awareness and prevent future violence, but we need local businesses like Resource Industry Network to jump on board to help spread this message.”

With support from an advertising grant from Mackay Regional Council, the Rotary Clubs of Mackay have partnered with Resource Industry Network to extend their outreach where it’s needed most.

“Resource Industry Network is helping us reach high school students where they spend most of their time - on their phones,” Mr Buckeridge added.

“We’re encouraging businesses to get involved by purchasing shirts and displaying banners.

“It’s all about visibility and conversation, and getting the community to step up and be part of the change.”

Dean Kirkwood, General Manager at Resource Industry Network, emphasised the importance of their involvement.

“Domestic and family violence has a huge impact on the community - not just from a welfare and health perspective, but across many different areas. It’s still a taboo topic, but we need to bring it into the open and start these conversations,” Mr Kirkwood said.

“It’s about ensuring that young people see the businesses they look up to - whether it’s their future employers, sponsors of their sporting team, or local role models - seeing those organisations take a stand helps the message get through.”

Every Friday in May, Rotary Club members, sponsor businesses and Resource Industry Network staff will wear their purple shirts with pride to show support to those impacted by domestic and family violence and encourage future generations to take a stand.

“Our mission is to help businesses create internal conversations and a culture that doesn’t tolerate abuse,” Mr Kirkwood added.

“We need to equip businesses with tools to start conversations and raise awareness about prevention by wearing Rotary purple t-shirts in the community.

“After a long haul, I’m enjoying handing the day-to-day running of the park over to other volunteers and the day-to-day running of the Club over to paid professionals. I’m looking forward to getting back to my family, business, and personal sport.

“A lot of people have put in countless volunteer hours over the years to get to this point, as they could see what a massive change this club will bring to the community.

“In time, it will take a huge load off the volunteers of all the sports, as they no longer need to spend hours providing food and drinks for players and

spectators. Instead, they can focus their time on attracting more players, coaching teams, and managing the growth of their sports.

“Consistency in field maintenance, such as herbicides, fertilising, top dressing, and line marking, will lead to some of the best playing surfaces in the area. Improved lighting, additional shade, and more seating will also support the growth of sports in the region.”

Sports tourism is increasingly becoming a major contributor to Airlie Beach’s thriving visitor market. From local teams travelling from Mackay for home matches to large-scale events like the Sea Eagles AFL preseason and the Touch Footy Whitsunday Cup, sporting events are filling local accommodations and boosting the hospitality sector.

Airlie Beach has also attracted high-profile events, such as Qld regional NFL Gridiron and Rugby League, thanks to recent upgrades to its facilities.

Previously hosting the NRL Kangaroos training camp and Cowboys Young Guns and with upcoming events like the Firebirds netball match, the region is poised to continue attracting top-tier sporting events, further driving tourism growth. Club Whitsunday look forward to AFL, Football and Rugby Union enticing their top-tier teams for exhibition matches and so on. Club Whitsunday will undoubtedly serve as a vibrant hub for these events.

PRECINCT STRUCTURE

Each sporting code at the Sportspark is an incorporated body run by a volunteer committee.

Local sports, from Touch Footy with Monday night competitions and annual carnivals to Football with multiple men’s and women’s teams playing weekly, are all run by volunteers. These volunteers coach, manage, and develop players, dedicating countless hours to their sports. Participation is surging post-COVID and as the population grows.

The sporting fields and courts are on land leased from the council, zoned for recreation, and managed by Whitsunday Sportspark Operations Inc. A volunteer committee oversees maintenance, including insurance, mowing, spraying, and lighting, as well as coordinating events, seasonal activities, carnivals, and special bookings.

The land immediately around Club Whitsunday is freehold and is owned by a public company that owns and operates Club Whitsunday.

The voting shareholders in this company are the 5 foundation sports of AFL, Football (Soccer), Netball, Rugby Union and Touch Footy and they have one vote each on any major events.

There is a Board of Directors elected by the sports whose volunteer role is to oversee the management and running of Club Whitsunday for the benefit of the shareholders and public.

Being such a significant hospitality offering the day-to-day management of the Club is by professional paid staff.

Club Whitsunday have a high-end General Manager from NSW overseeing all facets of the Club including future growth, an operations Manager running the bars and gaming, an Executive Chef running the kitchen along with a Sous Chef and several Duty Managers to cover the 100 odd hours the facility is open per week.

Club Whitsunday is a major local employer, with staff across the bar, kitchen, gaming, cleaning, and administration sectors.

It is a professional operation, not run by sportspeople, but by hospitality experts under the oversight of unpaid, volunteer Directors. These Directors must have significant hospitality experience and bear responsibility for the facility, staff, and shareholders.

The Club is seeking new Directors as those who helped establish it step down, looking for individuals with experience in managing or owning hospitality venues. If you're interested, approach senior staff or current Directors, who can connect you with the sports and guide you through the nomination process for the AGM in March.

The PCYC and Bowls Clubs are independent entities with their own land, separate from Club Whitsunday, though they share the Sportspark precinct and collaborate closely.

A HISTORY OF THE CLUB GROUNDS

After initially lobbying the council in 1982, Whitsunday Sportspark Inc. was established in 1988, and the first field was reclaimed from an old tidal dump site and laid down in 1991. Local residents, led by David Moore and John Bell, recognised the need for sporting fields in the growing town.

In the 1990s, the top oval was established, and the first three netball courts were constructed. At its peak, the park hosted over 12 different sports, including Rugby Union, AFL, Football, Netball, Touch Football, Cricket, Softball, Rugby League, and Athletics.

A group of volunteers, led by Peter Chengody, Fiona Helman, and Bevan Conroy, constructed fencing, car parks, and the first permanent changeroom and shared clubhouse in the late 1990s.

In the 2000s, Rugby Union and Touch Football combined to replace the caravan and donga-based food and admin facilities with a new timber canteen and clubhouse beside the PCYC and skate bowl. Notable contributors during this period included Jack Lumby, Steve Tween, Barb Adamson, Kon Flaherty and Justin Butler.

In the mid-2010s, the committee, led by President Justin Butler, lobbied the Whitsunday Regional Council, securing $750,000 in 2015, which was leveraged for a $1,500,000 Queensland Sport and Recreation Grant to develop an additional bottom field with lighting, and two sets of changerooms.

Plans for expanded infrastructure continued with a 2016 federal LNP election commitment of $1,900,000 and a 2017 Queensland Labor election commitment of $2,100,000.

Cyclone Debbie in 2017 delayed planning as efforts focused on getting the park and local sport back on track. However, the setback allowed additional lobbying, ultimately securing a $2,100,000 federal government Building Better Regions Grant in 2019. This brought total funding to over $8,000,000, and construction was able to begin.

Initially, a two-storey design with changerooms beneath was planned, but the unstable site made this impractical. A revised, single-storey design was developed, featuring one set of changerooms to service the bottom fields and hardcourts, and a second separate set for the top oval.

Construction began with the repurposing of the old timber canteen from the bottom field, which was relocated to service the top oval alongside the new changerooms. Hutchinson Builders were selected to construct the new changeroom complexes and hospitality club, with the project completed in 2022. The local sporting codes were compensated for construction disruptions with upgraded changerooms and clubhouses and new lighting and an extra bottom field.

For two years, delays with land freeholding and liquor and gaming licensing proved frustrating, and ongoing costs quickly depleted the project's cash reserves. By the time approvals were granted, the project faced cost overruns of $1,500,000 and an additional $3,500,000 needed for fit-out and working capital. This, coupled with rising interest rates and tightening bank lending, created significant financial strain.

In mid-2024, specialist hospitality financiers stepped in, and with a further $750,000 contribution from the Whitsunday Regional Council, the deal was sealed and the newly named Club Whitsunday was in the home straight to opening. The successful completion of the redevelopment was driven by the efforts of Chairman Justin Butler, Directors Craig Spence and Tim Langford, and retirees Bob Corskie and Brian Doyle, who played a key role in maintaining the fields and grounds.

JOSH PROWSE

Tracy O’Shea brings over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry, primarily with community clubs. Her most recent role was Club Manager at Benowa Bowls Club on the Gold Coast, before she relocated back to Far North Queensland in December last year.

As part of the team behind Club Whitsunday, Tracy is excited to have contributed to the opening of this new venue. She’s particularly eager to see the membership grow, especially with the support of the various sporting clubs in the local precinct.

“I am very excited to be a part of the daily operations of running the club with both General Manager Joshua and continued working relationship with the Executive Committee,

Growing up in Beechworth, Victoria, sport was a central part of life. Whether competing at the state level or cheering on his teams, Josh always had a fierce rivalry with New South Wales. When he moved to Moruya Golf Club on the NSW South Coast as CEO in 2019, he carried his Victorian roots with him, including a love for Queensland in the State of Origin, Melbourne Storm in the NRL, and AFL as his number one sport.

Now, Josh is bringing his expertise to Club Whitsunday, where he’s excited to help launch the new venue. With 18 years of experience in club management, Josh explained how the opportunity to build up Club Whitsunday and make it the prime venue in Airlie Beach was too exciting to pass up.

“I’m excited to lead Club Whitsunday and strengthen its ties with the local community,”

Josh said. “It’s an opportunity to provide a much-needed hub for entertainment, food, and community events, and to support local sporting groups from juniors to seniors.”

Josh believes in the power of sport to improve both physical and mental health. He plans to make the club a key player in fostering local talent and community engagement.

“Once the club is open it would be great to meet the locals,”

“People will see me around the club most days and I would welcome everyone to introduce themselves.

“Who knows I might be able to get some of the secret fishing spots off someone,” he added.

who have worked tirelessly on preparing for the opening,” Tracy explained.

“It’s exciting to be working with our Chef Zibby, who is producing some amazing meals, and looking forward to meeting the new members over the coming years,” she added.

Tracy is looking forward to introducing membership promotions in the coming months, seeing local entertainers perform at the club, and working with the team to help the club grow and support the local community.

Outside of work, Tracy loves looking out from her balcony at the “absolutely magical ocean” that Airlie Beach has to offer, and she can’t wait to go out and explore the islands.

With over 10 years of experience in the Whitsundays, Zibby Deca has built a diverse and extensive career in the local food industry. He has collaborated with a wide range of businesses, from assisting with the launch of new restaurants to managing catering departments and preparing food for large community events and music festivals.

Zibby has also worked as a private chef for highend clients, offering his culinary expertise aboard luxury yachts and in exclusive holiday homes. About a year ago, he joined a well-known local Italian restaurant, where he had the opportunity to work alongside talented chefs, further deepening his understanding of the regional food scene. These varied experiences, Zibby believes, have equipped him with a broad skillset and a unique insight into both local flavors and the diverse needs of his clientele.

Now, Zibby is excited to be part of the opening of Club Whitsunday:

TRACY O’SHEA Operations Manager

“I’m thrilled to be part of opening the Club. With plenty of space and affordable pricing, I’m sure it will become a go-to spot for locals.”

He adds, “Every new venue is unique. The unpredictability is what excites me—the moment people walk in, experience the atmosphere, and decide if they like it. It’s rewarding to see something new come to life and watch people enjoy it.”

Zibby hopes the community will embrace the Club with enthusiasm and positivity.

In his downtime, he enjoys watching his children play the piano while relaxing on the couch. As the head of his home’s gardening department, he also spends spare moments trimming hedges and mowing the lawn.

“With full support from management, the sky’s the limit.”

“Watch this space for a feast featuring great steaks, local seafood, and churros.”

SEE, TREAT, ASSESS AND DIAGNOSE

Barefoot And Brilliant Nurse Practitioners

Barefoot Medicine Whitsundays is known for its unique blend of a relaxed atmosphere and top-tier professionalism in healthcare. A key factor in the success of this well-established medical institution is its dedicated nurse practitioners, who expertly assess, diagnose, and treat patients with skill and care. These individuals who work diligently behind the scenes, play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care.

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced Registered Nurse with specialised skills and the authority to diagnose and treat various health conditions. Holding a master’s degree, NPs have high clinical independence and are endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. With around 3,000 NPs in the country, they provide patient-centered care, contribute to research and education, and offer services like Medicare rebates, prescriptions, referrals, and diagnostic tests, working closely with other healthcare professionals.

Barefoot Medicine Whitsundays is fortunate to have two of these exceptional healthcare professionals, Brett Johnson and Rachel Jakeman, who each bring their own unique brilliance to the team.

Brett Johnson

Brett’s nursing journey began in 1979 when he switched from university science to hospitalbased training in Albury, NSW. After 18 months in Rockhampton, he completed a general ICU certificate at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, followed by work in general, pediatric, and neonatal ICUs in Perth for two years. He then returned to Northeast Victoria, managing the

Critical Care and Dialysis Units at Northeast Health Wangaratta for 23 years. In the early 2000s, he pursued a Master's of Clinical Nursing – Nurse Practitioner and completed a 5-year internship.

Endorsed in March 2011, Brett worked at Albury Wodonga Health, then moved to Portland Hospital in 2019, where he completed his Nurse Practitioner training. He took on various roles, including coordinating geriatrician clinics, managing nursing home rounds, consulting on critically ill patients, running respiratory clinics and exercise stress tests, drawing on his critical care expertise.

Brett explains that this partly prepared him for general clinical practice in Cannonvale which since 2022 he has found both challenging and rewarding.

“I have been fortunate enough to work with a great team and have received valued support from Colleagues GPs at Barefoot Medicine.

“While nurse practitioners don't enjoy the same clinical scope of practice as general practitioners, we can prescribe most drugs under the PBS, we can order x-rays and ultrasounds and refer to medical specialists.”

Brett explains how, over time, the nurse practitioner's scope has broadened and continues to evolve in conjunction with the collegial GPs.

“I believe we can offer a valuable service in these times of scarcity of GP appointments.”

Rachel Jakeman

Rachel began her nurse practitioner journey in

the UK in 2013, leading a communitybased team focused on managing chronic conditions, optimising care plans, and preventing hospital admissions. She developed advanced clinical skills in diagnosing and treating various conditions and completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, enhancing her evidence-based care, leadership, and patient advocacy.

Rachel also specialised in women’s and sexual health, with expertise in contraception, menopause management, and preventive screening, and advanced pediatric assessment training to provide high-quality care to children. After moving to the Whitsundays from Brisbane, she embraced regional healthcare challenges, building strong community relationships and ensuring accessible, quality services.

“My role continues to encompass clinical decision-making, health promotion, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient outcomes.

“While it is a new role, and people aren’t used to seeing nurse practitioners, individuals don’t always know what we can do or our skillset.

"As nurses, we tend to assess people a bit differently, taking a more holistic approach and looking at the full picture. That unique nursing perspective, combined with our skill set, can be a real asset.”

Due to the ongoing GP shortage in Australia, Nurse Practitioners are becoming a key alternative. Barefoot Medicine Whitsundays is actively seeking more Nurse Practitioners, if you think you'd be a great fit, get in touch!
