Agroup of local students have made a big difference in the lives of hundreds of young Fijian children who this week received specially created school packs containing books, pens and other educational resources they would not normally have access to.
Year 12 student and School Captain Hazel Farrell visited Fiji in person and hand-delivered the packages which had been compiled by her school friends at St Catherine’s Catholic College and partnering school, St Mary’s Catholic School in Bowen through the Catherine McAuley Society.
Hand-delivering the lovingly created school packs to hundreds of Fijian school children was a big moment for Whitsunday local, Hazel Farrell, who had been working with her school friends on a sustainability project that was set to provide a meaningful impact to the whole community.
Visiting the remote Fijian school during one
of her regular trips having been visiting the region since she was a young child, Hazel had the honour of delivering these school packs on behalf of her fellow students who she had been working on the project with. Part of a Catherine McAuley Society initiative, the students had elected to compile the handy school packs as part of the sustainability project lead by Elenore Balldock and initiated by much-loved teacher Ms Shantae Ryle.
The intention of the packs was to provide young Fijian school children with resources their families would not usually be able to afford. This in-turn would ease the financial stresses of living within the communities and enable people to lead more sustainable lives. Without needing to follow such practices as over-fishing the reef just so they could afford ‘luxuries’ such as school books.
Over 140 primary school age children were the
lucky recipients of the lovingly compiled school packs and Hazel said the response she received when handing them over made her heart melt.
“It was absolutely unreal!” she expressed.
“They were so excited and couldn’t wait to see what was in the bags! They all wanted to hold my hand and we spent time reading some of the books with them, it was a truly magical experience and one I will remember my whole life.”
The project began back in Proserpine and Bowen with a team of dedicated students selling the little packs to school friends from $5 - $15. Each student was then encouraged to write a little note to go inside their pack to connect with a fellow Fijian school student who would then receive, not only the pack, but also a new pen pal. Hazel and her friends raised over $1000 for the project and purchased excess luggage to transport the
precious parcels to Fiji.
Located in the Yasawa Island Group off the Western coast off Viti Levu in Fiji, The Naviti District School is on Naviti Island, and the children come from four surrounding island villages – Muaria, Kese, Marou and Malevu –often travelling up to one and a half hours to get to school each day. They have a very basic standard of living with frequent power outages and are often at the mercy to weather systems such as cyclones, flooding and drought. Families rely heavily on the reef which can often become over-fished, and they have to manage sewerage in the communities to prevent harmful run-off reaching the reef systems.
For the past 20 years, Airlie Beach based company Reef Safari Diving, has been been working in the Yasawa area in association with two tourist resorts; Barefoot Kuata
and Barefoot Manta. The businesses have a strong commitment to reef conservation and community welfare, always looking for opportunities to help and give back.
Rob MacFarlane is the Head Marine Biologist at Reef Safari and has resided in Fiji for the past seven years. During this time, he has been collaborating regularly with the local school, each week he offers free swimming lessons to the students, teaches them about coral planting and orchestrates beach clean-ups. These initiatives offer the school children practical skills and education about conserving their precious natural environment for generations to come.
Rob delivered the school packs with Hazel and said he was blown-away by the incredible efforts the Whitsunday students had gone to.
“What Hazel and the rest of the students have done is absolutely amazing!” he said.
“It was a huge effort, and it was incredibly exciting to see how well it was received. We look forward to this being part of a much bigger partnership and want to continue on this trajectory.”
Hazel is also eager to continue this connection and looks forward to bringing more supplies back to the communities again in September. She encourages anyone in the community to get involved by donating items or money to assist with the project. All donations will go directly to benefit the Fijian communities in the form of stationary, exercise books and ‘readers’. The Whitsunday students are also currently raising money for a microscope and slides.
If you would like to get involved please email Julia Farrell from Reef Safari on info@reefsafari.com
When local mum, Shell Wardrope, took a stumble on her wet driveway in May this year she didn’t think the innocent fall would change the trajectory of her life forever. The rain had been pouring for some time and she raced outside to call her son in for dinner, tripping forward and landing straight on her knee. Within seconds she could see a large gash form and after examining the wound, her and her husband Ben decided to go to the local hospital where they received stitches for the injury and returned home later that evening.
Heading to sleep that night, the couple thought Shell had a simple injury that would heal gradually over time. This was until the early hours of the morning when she woke up with a throbbing pain in her leg. After inspecting her leg again they could see it was extremely swollen so they drove to the hospital to have it checked out.
This fast thinking could have saved her life.
Within minutes of arriving at the hospital, Shell’s health deteriorated quickly and before long she lost consciousness. Panicked and distraught, Ben was by her side when he was told that she had contracted a soil-borne bacterial infection and only had a 2% chance of survival.
Ben and Shell believe the soil-borne infection was caused by a common algae that can be found almost anywhere. Unfortunately for Shell, the gash on her knee allowed this usually harmless algae to enter her bloodstream. The algae then reacted with the white blood cells and created a flesh-eating bacteria which spread rapidly up her leg.
The medical team at Proserpine Hospital did everything they could to stop the spread of the infection which was progressing further up her leg by the minute. Shell was quickly transferred to Mackay Base Hospital where they determined they would need to remove her limb. This was done in sections, each time they hoped to stop the infection and save as much of her leg as possible.
Eventually the infection did stop spreading, but by this stage Shell’s leg had been amputated from below the hip.
But she still was alive.
For the next four days, her prognosis remained at 2% and Ben prayed she would pull though, determined that she would continue the life they had created together.
Several days later, when he was at his most desperate Ben took to social media and shared their plight with the community, pleading with everyone to help bring her back.
“I put that text up to the community and it blew up!”
he explained.
“Through everyone’s prayer over that night, she dramatically changed.”
Shell had been in a coma for 13 days and had no idea her right leg was no longer there when she woke.
During her time on life support she remembers being plagued by nightmares which included being plunged into a shark tank where her leg was bitten off. Waking up and seeing Ben and their son Ollie was all she could have dreamed of and, despite the adjustment, Shell said she is incredibly grateful.
“They tried to save as much of my leg as they could, but it kept getting higher,” explained Shell.
“They did an amazing job and what they did saved my life, for which I am eternally grateful.”
“It’s weird because I can’t counterbalance, I can’t just sit up and I often get phantom leg pain, that’s one of
the hardest things which is strange because my leg is not even there,” she shared.
Ben said Shell is a “remarkable healer”.
“She’s on pretty much no pain medication whatsoever,” he explained.
“We’re pretty spiritual people and believe in holistic medicine and eating lots of natural foods which has been a big part of her healing, and she is feeling unbelievably well.”
Shell left hospital after just seven weeks. The same injury would take another patient an average of three months. This speedy recovery, however, has not worked in her favour. Her swift departure meant that adequate after-care has not yet been organised and they are waiting on NDIS to provide practical assistance. It’s a long road ahead for the family and they are having to consider what shape this new life will take.
At this stage Shell is navigating life on a wheelchair
they are leasing but she is hoping to get a prosthetic leg one day, this however, costs over $100K.
The family has launched a GoFundMe page where the community can help towards aftercare necessities and support for the family while Ben is unable to work due to taking care of Shell.
In a few months’ time, they are looking forward to hosting a gathering where they want to meet with the community to say thank you for all the support. In the meantime, they wish to thank everyone who has supported them so far, every gesture has meant so much to them.

The 2024 program for the Cruise Whitsundays Great Barrier Reef Festival has been launched and people across the region are getting excited about the Above and Below theme that is set to highlight our beautiful region once again.
Earlier this year, Cruise Whitsundays again confirmed their naming rights sponsorship for the event once again, their involvement bringing some exciting environmentally focused boat tours which will become one of the feature events during the festival.
Renowned for being one of the most family-friendly community events of the year, the award-winning Great Barrier Reef Festival has been a cornerstone of the annual events calendar for almost 25 years.
Highlights include the Coral Sea Marina Lantern Parade which sees the boardwalk come alive with beautifully decorated lanterns and the Airlie Beach Rotary Club Street Parade where businesses and community groups decorate their own floats.
There is also the Recyclable Regatta, Magic Mile, Family Fun Day and a crowd favourite – the Sebel Whitsundays Fireworks on the Foreshore where thousands of people gather on the beach to watch the night sky fill with colour.
As the evenings unfold, the main stage heats up with live music and DJs, with Conrad Sewell headlining Friday night and festival favourites Matty Rogers Band and Perry Street Park on Saturday.
The beach-side pop-up bar is always buzzing, and
families can enjoy the Side Show Alley and Carnival Rides throughout the evenings.
This year, the environmental theme runs throughout, both within events that incorporate recycled materials, but also through different educational opportunities that inspire and inform.
As part of the initiative, attendees have the opportunity to enjoy a Reef Experience with Cruise Whitsunday’s Master Reef Guides, an immersive day on the Great Barrier Reef learning from the undisputed masters of the Reef.
The Immerse Art Installation will be a focal point of the festival heart, with stunning hand-crafted reef inspired artworks illuminating Fairy Tree Park. In addition, the Above and Below Art Exhibition hosted by the Whitsunday Sailing Club will be on show throughout the festival.
This year there will be some new additions to the festival line-up, these include a special ‘Taste of Treason’ event at the Whitsunday Sailing Club Point and the Whitsunday Life Newspaper Window Dressing Competition where main street business stand to win $1000 worth of advertising for the best dressed shop front.

Americana blues-rock favourite Matty Rogers, is set to return to Airlie, for the Airlie Beach Festival of Music and Great Barrier Reef Festival with his band this year.
While Matty hasn’t performed at the Great Barrier Reef Festival yet, this will mark his fifth appearance at the Airlie Beach Festival of Music, an event he thoroughly enjoys due to his love for the festival crew, crowd and picturesque surroundings.
Matty grew up around musicians, with his father himself being a musician. Matty’s dad is his biggest inspiration. Despite never pushing music on him and letting the singer songwriter find his own groove in writing music, one day Matty woke up and realised he wanted to learn music too, started writing his own songs, and has been playing ever since.
Matty’s band is scheduled to perform an all-original set at the festivals, featuring compositions solely written by him. As a four-piece ensemble, they specialise in music that deeply resonates with their audience, invoking emotions across diverse age groups. Storytelling is central to Matty’s musical ethos, spanning from poignant ballads that stir tears to infectious beats that ignite the dance floor.
While Matty doesn’t particularly take inspiration from any musician or music, a lot of his musical inspiration is drawn from his life experiences, witnessing humanity and the people around him more so than the music he listens to.
Matty Rogers emphasises that he is super “pumped,” to be bringing the band up with him to Airlie again this year, and says he loves coming and playing in Airlie and feels so honoured to return year after year and playing for the amazing people and be so embraced by the community.
Matty is also looking forward to his upcoming tour that will be announced soon and the Passport to Airlie competition which he is hosting and encourages all musicians to jump aboard the competition.
What is your favourite song ever? If I had to pick one song (which is near impossible) it would have to be Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.
What is your favourite song to play? Walk to the Water.
What was the last thing you listened to? Chris Stapleton, Scarecrow in the Garden.

It was a typical Wednesday evening in May of 1964 and a group of locals, primarily cane farmers, were gathered at the Metropole Hotel in Proserpine, enjoying some cold drinks.
Among the group gathered were Aldo Cantamessa, Terry Hinschen, Gordon Barr, Fred Baxter, Fred Tetley and Kevin Tetley. Amidst the friendly banter, there was talk about the growing issue of potential accidents at sea and the increasing risks of losing friends and visitors while fishing or exploring the Whitsunday waters. Recognising the need for a more organised response to maritime emergencies, they took it upon themselves to address this concern.
Little did they realise, the events of that evening back in 1964 marked an historic moment in the narrative of marine rescue in the Whitsundays. They were the founding members of what we now know as Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) Whitsunday.
This forward-thinking group laid the foundation for a new era of marine safety for boaties. They devised a communication process and a roster, each man pledging his own vessel to stand ready for any call of distress. Initially, the group used three main boats privately owned by Gordon Barr, Aldo Cantamessa and Fred Baxter. Other boats used in the early days were those of Jack Hickmott, John Watts, Fred Tetley, Brian McDermott, Terry Hinschen and Wally Rogan. On one search, up to 24 private boats were involved!
The Squad could not charge for their services and relied on donations from assisted boaties – and this was more often than not a “thank you” in kind. After rescuing a family of three who had chartered a sailing boat owned by a baker from Mackay, members were surprised when, a few weeks later, they received thanks from the owner in the form of a huge carton. It was full of bread!
Proserpine Sea Rescue became an official entity in January 1967 after a steering committee was formed to draw up a constitution and rules, thus formalising what first began three years earlier. By July, the name had been changed to Whitsunday Air Sea Rescue (WASR). The year 1994 marked another milestone in the history of marine rescue when the new Whitsunday Marine Club officially opened thanks to a collaborative
approach from WASR, the Game Fish Club and the Power Boat Club. In 1995, Coast Guard (QF18) which had formed back in 1977 and Whitsunday Air Sea Rescue (VMR442) merged to officially become known as VMR Whitsunday.
Thanks to the unwavering commitment of volunteers, the next three decades bore witness to many remarkable developments. VMR Whitsunday now bears little resemblance to the fledgling organisation initiated by a small group of local men in a Proserpine hotel sixty years ago. From little things, big things grow
The transformation from its humble beginnings in 1964 to what we now know as VMR Whitsunday has been nothing short of remarkable.
VMR Whitsunday has evolved from an informal body of six dedicated volunteers to an organisation with an active crew of over 80 members.
In the formative years, marine radios were a luxury and mobile phones were a distant dream. Communications relied on landline phones, word of mouth and a basic blackboard system. Not so today! VMR Whitsunday is now equipped with mobile phones, advanced radios, AIS and other modern technology, to provide 24/7/365 emergency marine support.
Initially, operations had no centralised facilities, relying on the homes of dedicated volunteers, with meetings taking place at venues in Proserpine such as the Metropole Hotel, the RSL Club and the CWA Hall. It was over twenty years before the organisation acquired an official base – a demountable purchased for $80! Fast forward to 2024 and VMR Whitsunday boasts an impressive dedicated facility featuring a stateof-the-art training/meeting room.
The legacy born on that seemingly ordinary night at the Metropole Hotel when a small group of locals met to share some camaraderie and a few drinks has become a highly professional organisation that continues to save lives at sea, not just locally but statewide.

Have you ever stopped to think what would happen if your family’s income stopped due to someone dying, getting sick or having an accident?
The loss of wages might be manageable for retirees or people later in their working lives who have brought up their kids, paid down their debts and built up their super and passive assets. For families with younger kids, bigger debts and lower super balances it may well be disastrous. Centrelink benefits don’t cover home loan payments and hungry mouths to feed, let alone building for eventual retirement. You may have some basic cover in your super, but have you ever sat down and worked out if it is enough or even too much?
There are solutions to the problem in Personal Insurances. These are separate to Health Insurance which covers medical costs, these provide money to the family to keep going. There are two main types of Personal
Insurances, Lump Sum Cover and Income Protection.
Lump sum Cover provides a large lump sum of money to sort out your finances in the event of something major happening. You can insure for a payout in the event of Death, Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) and Major Medical Trauma, things like cancer, heart attack and stroke. You need to work out how much is required to keep a roof over the family’s head and provide for ongoing income to get through in the event of each of these things happening to either partner. The amount required is always different as it is based on your personal situation regards debts and existing super balances and family situation. You need to consider covering not just the working parent but also any nonworking parents as if something major happens, the worker may need to come home or change their job.
Income Protection provides an ongoing monthly
income in the event of being off work due to sickness or accident. The variables are how much you will be paid per month, how long you have to be off work to start getting paid and how long you will be paid for if off work for an extended period. Considerations are how much sick leave and cash reserves you have and if you have TPD cover.
The key with personal insurances is to know where you stand. What cover do you have now, and do you need to top it up or reduce to save premium and know how things will pan out. Like all insurance you hope you’ll never need to claim but you sleep better knowing you have some cover in place, especially at that stage of life where you have lots of financial commitments.

Solution Based Equipment
Safety/Productivity/Wellbeing
Revolutionising the experience of working, training, learning and living in remote locations is at the forefront of business development for M&P Services QLD. This solutions based transportable building manufacturing company brought their signature ‘Mobile Crib Rooms’ into the market 18 years ago and the company recently secured a contract for the 275th Mobile Unit.
The product is the clear market leader in off-road fully self-sufficient Mobile Units. Increased employee safety, comfort and productivity are all direct benefits of implementing the right mobile solution on your site.
Fitted with everything from safety equipment to ice machines, toilet facilities, kitchenettes and modern office spaces, the ‘Mobile Crib Rooms’ provide a completely transportable self-sufficient headquarters for almost any location for mining, civil, construction and agricultural sites.
They have a purpose-built transport fleet designed to be able to deliver and unload the product almost anywhere in Australia. The whole design and manufacture is done onsite at their Diesel drive factory, including the manufacture of the heavy duty off road mobile base.
“In most cases with the correct implementation and activation the asset purchase is cost neutral,” shared Max Jr from M&P Services.
The mobile product has in recent times been adapted to large cattle stations, mobile construction camps and emergency disaster zone rapid deployment base stations and triage rooms.
M&P Services began its life as M&P Autos in 1986, has always been a locally owned and operated business which has since adapted and evolved in line with changing market conditions brought on by the ebb and flow of the economy and sector requirements.
Along with standard modular and transportable buildings for both hire and sales, the company has a unique range that is designed to be superior within the marketplace.
Mobile Crib Rooms, full solar mobile toilets, self-weighted (engineered) buildings, Combo tm units, off grid options, tie-down solutions and many more.
“These designs allow the client to experience some real cost savings over the life of the project. As soon as they understand the benefits of using our products within their site they generally become repeat customers,” explained Max Jr.
“Our products are used all over Australia mainly in Qld, WA, NT and NSW along with Lihir Island (PNG) and New Caledonia.”
“We have implemented a continuous improvement process so we can remain leading the market in innovative premanufactured, modular and transportable solutions.”
The company plans to move into the Class 1a (residential) late this year early next, a move that will be underpinned by the existing and foreseeable housing crisis.
“We have some really exciting product features coming up in our LQ (living quarters) Range”.
M&P Services has a large range of static and mobile equipment within the Hire Fleet including Mine Site Compliance units, fast and efficient engineered tie down solutions. Site office, crib rooms, training rooms, class rooms, pre start areas, covered decks, toilet and shower blocks, canteens etc.
“We have over the last 12 months simplified our designs allowing for increased stock holding allowing us to control lead times,” stated Max.
“For example, an open plan office 12m x 3m has a current lead time of three weeks with the average lead siting at eight weeks.
“Shorter lead times, location and competitive pricing is driving our current growth”
“This year we celebrate over 10 years in our Diesel Drive, Mackay factory. We are now the largest manufacturer of transportable buildings in central and northern Queensland. We have an amazing team of dedicated long term management and operations staff committed to delivering the best possible product to the market.”
“We have such a dedicated team at Diesel Drive and we all share the common goal of customer focus. My job is so much easier thanks to the commitment of long term employees we have fostered.”
The future is looking buoyant at M&P Services, four years removed from the sale of their transport business assets, their growth within the manufacturing and portable building industry has exceeded expectations year on year since.

then, but I loved it because it really personalises your branding,” he explains.
“I’ve always liked doing things a little differently and I think that not choosing the franchise model, doing it independently, is what has allowed us to do things our way.”
“We’ve been able to create our own brand and we make sure we maintain integrity to that brand in the way we believe a business should be run and how people should be treated.”
This customer-focused approach has resonated with clients who enjoy the connection with each individual in the dynamic team, whether it be through leasing with the Property Management Department or buying and selling with the sales agents. Every element of the business is united and streamlined so everyone receives a ‘Taylored’ approach to property.

In the heart of Mackay’s flourishing real estate market, where tropical allure meets urban convenience, Robyn Faa Real Estate takes centre stage with unmatched proficiency. As the property market reaches new heights, this boutique agency, led by the seasoned and dedicated Robyn Faa, stands ready to guide buyers and sellers through the exhilarating process of property transactions.
Robyn’s insights highlight the urgency for buyers to act swiftly.
“The current market is moving very fast, and it is very much a seller’s market,” Robyn explained.
“For buyers to be successful, they need to be very prepared and organised by having their finances pre-approved and ready to go! They also need to be very decisive and when they find their ideal home, jump on it.
“I urge buyers not to be intimidated by multiple offers, you’ve got to be in it to win it, so place an offer where you see value and then be prepared to walk away.”
In Mackay’s hot market, being prepared is more than half the battle; it’s the key to unlocking your dream home.
“For first home buyers or for parents guiding their adult children, the best advice I can offer is to make an appointment with a bank or broker about 12 months prior to purchasing.”
Sellers, on the other hand, are basking in the
glow of high demand, and Robyn explains how minimal effort can net higher returns.
“A neat, clean, tidy home can reward them with a much higher sale price, compared to a messy or dirty property. A coat of paint is relatively inexpensive; pruning and weeding costs your time; a few weekend working bees can soothe a buyer’s tendency to start ‘looking for problems.’”
At Robyn Faa Real Estate, the personalised touch is paramount.
“Clients are not a number, but valued patrons, who are treated with personalised service as they talk directly to me and are not fobbed off to another department or assistant.”
This bespoke approach ensures every client receives tailored advice and support from initial consultation to final settlement.
“My marketing campaign is as inexpensive as I can make it, I make zero profit on these so I’m not ‘ripping them off’ with flashy bells and whistles that are largely unnecessary. I customize every campaign to what the seller wants, and I do not force sellers into staging their properties.”
Robyn’s deep local knowledge is a treasure trove for her clients.
“Mackay is beautiful in every suburb and different locations speak to different buyers.
“Our Northern Beaches are very popular with interstate buyers; investors want close to CBD and middle socio-economic bracket; whereas families are looking for safe neighbourhoods within their desired school catchment areas.”
This nuanced understanding of Mackay’s diverse appeal helps clients find the perfect match for their needs.
Balancing professional success with personal resilience, Robyn has continued to thrive even after the loss of her husband in 2019. Raising her four children while running her business, she has become a paragon of strength and dedication. Her boutique agency isn’t just a real estate office; it’s a family, offering a level of care and commitment that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Robyn’s extensive experience, client-focused approach, and deep local knowledge make her the ideal choice for anyone looking to buy or sell in Mackay.
In a market that’s always shifting, Robyn Faa Real Estate remains the steadfast compass guiding clients to their dream homes. Robyn isn’t just navigating Mackay’s vibrant property market; she’s steering it towards success.

With Kath Barker From Compass Realty
Sometimes less really is more, and this is the case with Kath Barker from Compass Realty Whitsundays, an independent one-woman agency that believes in taking on less clients to deliver an even more personalised service. Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest and most personally significant decisions you will ever make in your life and Kath understands the value of providing a meaningful experience to all her clients.
A returning resident of the Whitsundays, Kath spent her youth in the region with her father who brought a sailing yacht from New Zealand to Australia in the early 1980’s. As a teenager, she spent many happy years living with her dad on the boat, offering sailing tours and hosting visitors for adventures around the islands.
Eager to travel and pursue a more corporate career Kath eventually moved to Sydney where she had her two children, before moving to the Gold Coast to be closer to family. It is here that she embarked on her career in the housing industry, only initially it was in the construction sector where she operated a construction business alongside her husband for the past 20 years. During this time, the pair oversaw countless commercial projects including Jupiter’s Casino and the Gold Coast Light Rail. They employed a workforce of 40 and Kath’s role was largely in Business Development.
With her own experience in buying, selling, developing and investing, Kath knows how stressful the process can be, and supports her clients every step of the way.
“Having 20 years in building and construction comes in very handy in real estate,” commented Kath.
“Particularly when buyers are doing their Building and Pest Inspections and I can assure them not to panic, I also have an in-depth understanding of the building process which is a great foundation.”
With all this industry experience coupled with a vibrant, warm and engaging personality, friends often commented that she would be a natural real estate agent, but it took several years for Kath to follow this path. One friend in particular offered her a job and when Kath arrived in the office one day and informed her that she now had her real estate licence and was ready to start, “she nearly fell off her chair!”.
That was five years ago, and Kath has never looked back, as passionate about her career as when she first started, only these days she is doing it with the flexibility and freedom of working in her own business. Eternally grateful for the mentorship of her friend when she first started in real estate and the experience a larger agency gave her, Kath is now proud to have her own business, Compass Realty, which works within the @realty umbrella and provides all the backend services such as compliance and legislation.
This transition to independence came hand in hand with a bigger move, one that saw Kath and her husband return to the Whitsundays. The couple visited the region to celebrate a milestone birthday, and quickly realised they were destined to leave the fast-paced, highpressure environment of the Gold Coast behind to pursue a sea change which took them back to a place where Kath has always felt at home.
These two decisions allowed Kath to finally become the person and the real estate agent she has always wanted to be.
“My focus now is to take on a lot less clients and deliver a high-end customer experience - I love supporting people through the property process whether they are buying or selling,” expressed Kath.
“I love seeing the joy on people’s faces when they’ve got that sale price or are holding the keys to the first, or even their 10th house, in their hands.”
When she steps away from the desk, Kath can be found out on the water sailing with her husband or, more recently, exploring the country in their new caravan.

We often read about other landlords/tenants’ comments of property managers but fortunate for us, you would have to be the best property manager that we have had the privilege to deal with. Your professionalism and ability to work with us on finding suitable tenants, rectifying issues after inspections or organising repair contractors was always done efficiently. With over a decade of expertise, Fiona’s primary focus includes ocean view and beachfront properties in the exquisite Hideaway Bay, high-end and coastal view properties in Shute Harbour, Airlie Beach, and Cannonvale, as well as more rural properties.

With a love for working with people and helping them turn their dreams into reality, Fiona emphasises how buying a house is “one of the biggest transactions most people make in their lives”.

Currently, her passion project is renovating an old building in the Pioneer Valley. Once complete, it will be a blend of residential and commercial, with a nod to its heritage.
“Abandoned buildings intrigue me,” Robyn admits.
“It’s such a shame to see them empty and deteriorating at a time when we have a housing crisis.
“It’s interesting to discover the construction styles of decades ago, and I’m excited to see the building completed and already looking out for my next project.”
Robyn’s efficiency and expertise make her a standout in the real estate industry. Her ability to see the potential in any property ensures that her clients receive the best possible advice.
“The best time to sell is when you are ready!” she says.
“At the moment there is an increase in buyers’ agents and investor interest in our region.
“Integrity matters massively in everything I do, and I’m not one to compromise that for anything or anyone.”
Having raised her family in the Pioneer Valley, Robyn’s expertise in this area is unparalleled, and the region holds a special place in her heart.
“The view is spectacular as you head up the range, the temperature drops and the hills of Eungella remind me of our family farm in New Zealand.”
Robyn’s connection to the community is evident in her Gratuity Referral Program, which she launched this year.
“I donate $1000 of my earnings from every property sale to a local school or charity,” she says.
“If the vendors have a charity close to their heart, I am happy to be guided by them.
“Otherwise, the donation goes to a school near the property that was sold, the Australian Street Aid Project, Royal Flying Doctor Service, or Life Impact Church, who are generous supporters of our community.”

The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Sandy Coast enhance the shopping experience, offering assistance in finding the perfect piece or sourcing it if it’s not in stock. This personalised service, coupled with the absence of hefty delivery fees, makes shopping at Sandy Coast not only enjoyable but also practical.
“We are that place that people love to go for those ‘hard-to-shop-for’ people. We have such diversity for gifts from flameless candles to some select pieces of coastal fashion as well as jewellery,” Sandy explained.
“We also offer complementary gift-wrapping so you can call in on the way to an event and walk out with your gift sorted!”
Sandy’s dedication to her business and her community is evident in every aspect of the shop.
“I have about 100 different suppliers, many items are one-off pieces, and we have some unique items
made locally,” she shares. The store is always filled with exciting finds, from handcrafted purses to local photography by Adam Lloyd Jones.
“It’s a destination for many people, the opportunity to take a relaxing drive to the Northern Beaches, grab a coffee and stroll our showroom to see what’s new.”
With her five children now grown, Sandy has the time to dedicate to her business which has been a dream of hers for years, however, family is still at the heart of all she does.
“We have five children; one in Cairns, two in Brisbane, and two here,” she says with a smile.
“I’m so proud of all of them, following their passions and living their lives as wonderful, kind people.”
The family took a memorable trip to Vietnam and Cambodia with two other local families years ago when the youngest were 8-year-olds.
“Vietnam was very go-go-go because we had a full itinerary across many destinations with wonderful experiences, but Cambodia gave us that relaxing time where we visited temples and enjoyed relaxing family time.”
Whether you’re looking for a statement piece or the perfect gift, Sandy Coast is the place to find something new to love.

Specialising in kitchens, bathrooms, and all custom cabinetry needs, Creative Edge Cabinetry caters to both the residential and commercial sectors, bringing creativity, precision, and passion to every project.
This family kitchen was a relic of a bygone era, a space defined by faded and dated decor that clashed with its true potential. The mismatched colours of the cabinetry and countertops created visual chaos. The lack of practical space for food preparation made cooking a challenge and the breakfast bar was an anti-social eyesore that further fragmented the kitchen.
The once outdated and cluttered space has been transformed into a modern haven, characterised by clean white lines and elegant simplicity. The new kitchen boasts ample bench space, perfect for everyday meals and elaborate culinary creations, plus an open inviting area that encourages family gatherings and social interaction.
One of the standout features of the new design is the clever integration of
storage solutions. The team at Creative Edge Cabinetry ensured that every inch of space was utilised efficiently, incorporating custom cabinetry to keep clutter at bay. The result is a kitchen that feels much larger and more open than its predecessor.

Whitsunday Pool Service, nestled in the heart of Airlie Beach has been a cornerstone of community trust and reliability since its inception.
Established during the era of Airlie Beach’s dirt roads, the business was previously owned by Dale Mackrill for 17 years before being passed on to its current owners, Ben Holliday and his partner Christine Cullen.
Since the passionate couple took ownership, the business has continued to thrive and their entry into the pool service industry has been both an unexpected yet successful journey.
Ben, originally a plumber from the UK, found himself immersed in the world of pools when he joined Whitsunday Pool Service 13 years ago. His passion for the trade grew steadily, eventually leading him to open up his own business alongside Christine four years ago, under the banner of Holliday Pools.
Despite initially operating solely as a mobile service, the demand for their expertise quickly outgrew their capacity, prompting the acquisition of the business from Dale upon his retirement, with the unexpected support of a cooperative bank.
Ben and Christine take pride in building relationships with their customers, extending their care not only to the pools they service but also to the people (and pets) they encounter along the way. For Ben, the highlight often lies in the furry companions he meets during his visits.
The core values of Whitsunday Pool Service reflect its roots as a family-run establishment deeply embedded in the local fabric.
The emphasis on honesty, reliability, and a return to communitycentric service distinguishes them from larger corporate entities.
Their service offerings span a comprehensive range, including free pool water analysis in store, maintenance, warranty repairs and equipment sales. They also provide hands-on training for customers keen on managing their pool care independently, reinforcing their commitment to a unique approach when it comes to providing the best experience and service for their customers.
With the help of GWADA Murals, the shop recently received a modernised make-over in a display of their ever-growing success.
What sets Whitsunday Pool Service apart is not only its longstanding presence but also its adaptability and vision for the future. While rooted in tradition, Ben, Christine and their team are forward-thinkers, aiming to modernise operations from outdated paper systems to efficient digital processes.
This transition reflects their dedication to both customer convenience and environmental responsibility which is a major core value for Ben and Christine. They are vigilant in sourcing pool chemicals that have minimal impact on their beloved local environment and are aware of the delicate balance needed to preserve the natural beauty of the area, including the nearby Great Barrier Reef.
Whitsunday Pool Service holds a firm foundation of environmental stewardship, community and a legacy of trust. Through their dedication to unique, personalised services, ethical practices and revolutionary initiatives, Ben, Christine and their team are not only preserving a piece of local history but are also shaping a sustainable future for their community and beyond.
As they navigate the dynamic landscape of Whitsunday Pool Service, their passion for excellence and customer care continues to be the driving force behind their success.
“We love getting to know our customers – our main values are ensuring we remain a family-run business, that is local and we are also very environmentally conscious, ensuring the chemicals we source and supply have minimal impact on the wonderful area we live in,” said Christine.

Tiffany Clark, Director of Coastal Blinds Mackay did not always have a career in homeware and decorating, she originally worked as a legal secretary but quickly found her passion in interior design when she worked for a local floorcovering company. It was there that she fell in love with helping people with their houses and inspiring them with practical ways to turn a house into a home.
“After marrying a local builder and having three beautiful children, dreams of becoming the next Metricon Homes took a reality check,” says Tiffany with a laugh.
“We soon realised we wanted to find a job that was challenging and interesting, yet still flexible enough to work around family life.”
Tiffany and her husband started to work together and when they did, they worked alongside a mentor who had run a successful window coverings business interstate. Their mentor provided them with the ins and outs of the industry and Tiffany and her husband became hooked and knew it was the profession for them.
Tiffany said her and her husband make a great team. “Leigh measures, meets our wonderful customers and installs. Apart from the odd times extra assistance is required with colour selections, I do most of the behind-thescenes jobs – quoting, invoicing, stock control etc. We often joke that he is the looks of the organisation and I am the brains,” said Tiffany.
When Tiffany is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family on the beach.

Originally from Victoria, Kerri McIntyre has enjoyed a dynamic and colouful career across a diverse range of sectors, before finding her passion in real estate almost two decades ago.
She started out as a hairdresser and, at the age of 20, owned her own business. At 21 Kerri bought her first home and her career as a hairdresser resulted in 17 years in the profession. She then gathered further experience at a Solicitors office working alongside legal professionals which she found interesting.
Another goal of Kerri’s is to help other people achieve theirs, and she found she was able to do this best by becoming a real estate agent, a career change she absolutely loves!
“I love communicating with people, I have now been a Real Estate Agent for 16 years and absolutely love it,” said Kerri.
“Connecting and building relationships with people is a fantastic aspect of Real Estate and those relationships sometimes turn into lifelong friendships. Thank you’ to all past and future clients for entrusting me with your greatest asset; I am grateful.”
Life has not always been easy for Kerri who tragically lost her husband to cancer, forever changing the life of her family. Having gone through such pain, she reflects that she can always connect with people on a deeper level and is always touched when others share their stories, offering support to those in need.
“This is something that touches my heart dearly when I hear of these all-toofamiliar stories from other families, going through tough times. I like to be a support for them and help out any way I can.”
FOOD SCRAPS
Kitchen scraps, grass clippings, plant prunings BROWN MATTER
Branches, leaves, shredded paper
Don’t drown, just moisten
Poultry, manure, blood + bone
Turn over regularly
Ready to add to soil in just 3 months
Rich in nutrients encouraging microorganisms ready to produce food
Whitpro and Prickly Pineapple proudly celebrate 10 tonne of food scraps from juicing and food prep, kept out of landfill and nurtured into compost, mixed into garden soils and feeding your plants organically.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
The food scraps you put in your bin go to landfill. These scraps are trapped in an anaerobic enviroment which means no oxygen. Without oxygen, insects and microorganisms needed to break down your scraps cannot survive. Food that breaks down in this government produces methane. That’s a nasty “green house gas” that produces 20 times more heat than carbon dioxide, that leaks from the tip out into the atmosphere.
If you don’t have time or space to compost, collect your scraps and place them in the bins at Whitpro’s entrance gate. For your efforts, pick a packet of seeds for free. Honesty system: small actions x many people = big results. It takes a community to raise a healthy environment!
Around 60% of or human bodies are made up of water. You’ll be lucky to survive 5 days without it. If you want to live longer drink 1-2 litres of water a day!
1/3 of our planet is covered by water. But not clean fresh water. More than 1 billion people live without enough water.
If a plant holds enough water, it’s cells are swollen and the plant stands upright. If they lack water the cells deflate and the plant wilts. It needs more water.

Ever dreamt of nailing that royal look without spending a fortune? Well, you’re in luck! The regal ladies of the royal family have mastered the art of looking effortlessly chic, and guess what? You can too! With a few clever tricks and some royal insight from the beauty pros at Fresha, you’ll be strutting around like royalty in no time.
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have wowed us with their stunning yet subtle eye makeup. Their secret? Neutral tones! Searches for ‘neutral eyeshadow’ have skyrocketed by 123% recently. It’s all about those soft browns and rosy pinks. A gentle smoky eye, blended into the crease, gives a bold yet understated look. Take a page from Princess Diana’s book—she was known for her soft eye makeup paired with a simple liner. Her hack? Blending eyeliner with a cotton bud for a soft finish. Cheap, easy, and oh-so-effective!
Bright nail polish is a no-go for the royals. The secret to their elegant hands? Nude nail polish. Queen Elizabeth has been a fan of this classic look since the ’80s, and the trend is still going strong. It’s versatile, sophisticated, and matches any outfit. No wonder searches for ‘nude nail polish’ have increased by 28% recently. Keep it classy and timeless with nude nails.
Good skincare is the foundation of any great beauty routine. Kate Middleton swears by rosehip oil to keep her skin youthful and prevent dark circles. She got this tip from her mum, Carole, who also uses it. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle is a fan of glycolic acid for that glowing, supple skin. Not suitable for you? No worries! Face oils are packed with nutrients that keep your skin healthy and radiant. With a 26% increase in searches for ‘rosehip oil’ recently, it’s clear that people are catching on to these royal secrets.
Princess Diana was the queen of the rosy cheek. She swore by cream blush to add a fresh, youthful glow. Despite her rosacea, she managed to keep her skin looking fabulous with rose oils and avocado masks. Nowadays, Meghan Markle rocks the rosy cheek look with a classic powder blush. It’s all about looking fresh and natural. Fun fact: searches for ‘rosy cheeks’ have shot up by 180% earlier this year. Time to get blushing, ladies!
Meghan Markle’s secret weapon? A lash curler. She never skips this step, and it makes her eyes look lively and bright without needing heavy mascara. Diana had a trick too—she applied mascara right at the roots to make her lashes look longer and her blue eyes even more striking. Simple, but effective!
Your diet plays a huge role in how your skin looks. The royals know this well. Princess Diana avoided sugar, gluten, and dairy, sticking to boiled potatoes and chicken for flawless skin. Meghan Markle loves almonds for their Vitamin E and Zinc, keeping her skin clear and nourished. Kate Middleton’s diet is rich in lean proteins, fruits, and veggies, and she’s a fan of raw foods like sushi.
So there you have it, folks! Achieving that royal look is easier (and cheaper) than you thought. With these tips, you’ll be feeling like a duchess in no time. Now, go out there and shine!
