Editor’s Note

Hi Everyone,

Do you think Airlie Beach has a nice beach?

Despite the word ‘beach’ being in our local town’s name, many people have expressed their disappointment with the lack of ‘beach’ in Airlie Beach.

I remember when I first arrived as a 23-year-old backpacker almost 20 years ago on the Greyhound bus from Fraser Island.

After a long, sleepless night crammed into the single bus seat with nothing to view but black sky and the occasional servo, I was mesmerised by a sunrise that sprinkled over the new and exciting landscape that lay before us.

By the time we came into a very un-built-up Cannonvale I was alert and excited about arriving in Airlie and, as we rounded the hill I was captivated by the breathtaking view and turquoise ocean.

“This is a place I could live!” I remember thinking.

I hopped off the bus and decided to walk through the town to explore.

I passed a few party revellers left over from the night before and went to Airlie Point where I stared out to sea for some time.

I have to admit, that at no point did I wonder where the beach was.

It was the natural beauty that I fell in love with.

Flash forward 20 years and the modern world has changed our town, but it feels like our little lonely beach has been left behind.

The Foreshore has pert green grass, manicured garden beds and precise pavements.

The beach’s naturally rugged beauty acts as a stark contrast to this picture perfect scene. Like a rundown house in a street of pristine new builds – does our local beach need a reno?

If so, what does this look like?

Our story on page 4 explores this, and we would love to hear your feedback too – do we leave it natural or enhance its beauty?

ART FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Raising awareness and talking about your own experiences in order to break a stigma close to your heart can be one of the bravest and most powerful of good deeds.

Talented local artist, Donna Lawrence, is doing just this by using her art exhibition at the Whitsunday Sailing Club next week, to open the door to conversations and a broader understanding of mental health.

Diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar, Donna uses her art to help manage her mental health issues which have involved stints in hospital wards over the years.

She continues to use art for therapy and has found solace in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

“I am very open about my mental health despite experiencing both embarrassment and shame concerning current and past mental health experiences and a fear for the future,” shared Donna.

“I believe only through education and knowledge can we fight the stigma and prejudice for those learning in our community to accept and further understand diversity.”

Donna’s unique and impressive artworks are drawn in ink and pencil and incorporate three colours – red for passion and blood, and black and white to represent the light and the dark.

Heading down to Canberra later this year, Donna will be showcasing her collection of works entitled Light and Shade at a special Mental Health Month national exhibition.

Locals can get a sneak peak of this exciting exhibition at the Whitsunday Sailing Club on Friday 26th April where a gold coin donation will give you entry to browse the impressive display.

All proceeds will be given to Proserpine Youth Space.

Airlie Beach ‘Beach’ A Visual Eyesore Or Natural Treasure

When tourists come over the hill and see Airlie Beach for the first time, they are mesmerised by the turquoise ocean and excited to reach the coastline so they can walk on the golden sands.

When they arrive in town, however, there can be a little confusion, with a common question arising - exactly where is the ‘beach’ in Airlie Beach?

The Airlie Foreshore beach has large tidal patterns which reveal its muddy and rocky bay at low tide.

When the tide is high, the overall look of the bay improves but the beach itself is dull in colour and often littered with natural creek and ocean debris.

A common sight is also cigarette butts and protruding weeds, with Council saying the beach is maintained on an “as required” basis.

Over the years, the subject of improving its visual appeal has been a hot topic of local conversation, with community leaders and various groups taking the baton and determined to turn it from a perceived eyesore into a highlight.

Councillor Jan Clifford recalls that back in the early 2000s, she was part of a fundraising campaign called Loot for the Lagoon where a large community group was hoping to turn the beach into a man-made

sea water lagoon from the point at Whitsunday Sailing Club to the mouth of Airlie Creek.

This grand plan, however, was soon quashed in favour of the more manageable Airlie Beach Lagoon.

And while the lagoon is undoubtedly an asset, it does still leave Airlie Beach without the ‘wow factor’ feature beach it deserves.

Its naturally muddy and rocky state has a remote beach feel, but as tourism has continued to grow in the region, with the industry providing 1 in 3 jobs, does more effort need to be placed on finding solutions to improve its aesthetics?

“It’s pointless re-sanding the beach during storm season because it just washes away,” said Cr Clifford.

“I think we need community consultation - it’s everyone’s beach - some like it natural while others would prefer it enhanced.

“Personally, I want what was originally planned – the beach should have been one of the highlights of Airlie, but unfortunately it’s not.”

Local business owner, Brittany Panapa from La Tabella says it’s sad that no-one really uses the local beach.

“If I want to go to the beach I go to Bowen or Cape Gloucester,” she explained.

“I feel like if there was better sand it would be more utilised which would be so great to see.”

Gary Murphy, Whitsunday Regional Council Director Infrastructure Services, said that Council’s Parks and Gardens team conduct beach clearing on an ‘as required’ basis.

“Parks and Gardens monitor the condition of these beaches in the Southern region, especially after storms or the wet season as northerly winds usually bring in the debris of leaf matter and driftwood,” he

explained.

“Council’s Parks and Gardens teams also mow all the Airlie Precinct weekly and maintain the many garden beds undertaking hedging, adding additional plants and mulching.”

He added that “Front Beach on Airlie Foreshore is a naturally a rocky beach, and it is important that it is maintained in this state”.

“There are no plans to regularly import sand or drive tractors on the beach multiple times each day which would impact the natural environment.

“High tides wash more debris onto the beach at varying hours of the day, so a daily beach clean after each tide is not a viable option for staffing and financial reasons.”

Allan Milostic from Whitsunday Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that, he understands it would be an additional cost, but that improving the beach would benefit the whole town.

“It’s an expectation that people have of Airlie Beach and right now we are not meeting that expectation,” he said.

“When people sit down there watching the sunset - it needs to be more presentable.

“Our beach could be improved, I know it would be an expense, but it would benefit our reputation a lot.”

When asked how he thinks this could be achieved, Mr Milostic said perhaps Council could change their workflow and raise the standard of what “as required” means.

“I think the beach needs to be treated as part of Parks and Gardens and maintained to a suitable standard.”

Rick Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Whitsundays, adds that when they market the Whitsundays with images of Whitehaven, Airlie Beach’s beach can look very different to what people expect.

“When you have comments coming back from people seeing the beach it can be very disappointing and it does affect our brand.”

While it is evident that the lawns and garden beds are well-maintained across the region, it is still in question whether more regular clearing and environmentally appropriate measures need to be undertaken to make Airlie Beach ‘beach’ the feature destination the community can be proud of.

Student Lead Production A Huge Success

It’s been a fantastic opportunity for the students of Proserpine State High School to gain experience in running every element of their own play.

This is the first time a school production has been entirely student run and Co-Creator Mia Vloedmans expressed how this allowed them to have greater flexibility.

“Being student run it pretty much just gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted with it,” said Mia.

“We had a student point of view for it, so

that was really good as well.”

Executive Producer Jacob Williams explained that the production is run by the student led Seagrass Theatre and Music Company and he hopes juniors will continue it when himself and other seniors leave the school.

Before the opening night, choir member Maddie Davies said “I’m probably most excited for the actual play, because we’ll be able to perform it and I think it’s turning out really good so far.”

“I’m just excited for everyone to see it!” she exclaimed.

The Seagrass Theatre Company has raised a budget of close to $50,000, through sponsorships and parent donations. This has allowed the students to produce a production of high quality and industry standard.

The production has also enabled the students to gain experience behind-thescenes, playing in the orchestra, working in lighting or on the high industry stan-

dard sound boards.

Head of Promotions and Producer, Allegra Bradley said there are still tickets available and she would love you to see what they’ve been working on. Don’t miss it!

Three Car Collision Shute Harbour Road

Traffic was diverted on Sunday morning following a three-car collision on Shute Harbour Road near Mount Julian at 10.40am.

Five people were transported to hospital in stable conditions and the road was re-opened shortly after lunch.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said it is likely that the heavy vehicle behind the two cars ran into the back of one which then ran into the first.

Four of the patients that were transported by QAS were from the same vehicle.

A female in her 30s had chest pains and a cut on her head.

There were also two pre-teen females from the same car, one with a head injury and the other with a back injury.

A fourth passenger, a primary school age child had some facial injuries.

One female in her 20s from the second vehicle was also transported to the hospital with facial injuries.

All were minor.

Queensland Police Service said investigations are ongoing and there are no charges at present.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service said they attended the scene but their services were not required.

A Dozen Dead Cows

Local resident Henry Petersen got the shock of his life on Friday morning when he past “a dozen dead cows” on the side of the road between Gumlu and Guthalungra in the early hours of the morning.

The mango market-stall holder says it was only just getting light when his vehicle was halted on a remote section of the Bruce Highway and he witnessed a row of cattle deceased on the roadside.

“All the cattle had been knocked down like dominos, dead on the side of the road, there were more than a dozen of them!” he said.

“There were two semi-trailers with nothing attached, stopped on the side of the road – I guess they wouldn’t have had time to stop.”

Queensland Police confirmed they attended the scene of the accident which occurred at 3am that morning.

The highway was closed until 6.45am and no drivers were physically injured as a result of the incident.

The Whitsunday Regional Council are upgrading 1,065 metres of footpath on Renwick Road, Proserpine, to create a three-metre wide ‘shared path standard’.

The work will commence in several 200 metre stages to help minimise impacts and nuisances.

Each stage will take approximately two to four weeks to complete, with timing subject to weather and extent of drain re-modelling required at each section.

Stages may be completed out of order prescribed in the fact sheet, subject to weather constraints.

Stage 1 will commence from the St Catherine’s Catholic College end of Renwick Road this month.

Temporary single lane closures of Ren-

wick Road may occur, however, delays are expected to be minimal and not impact heavy vehicles utilising the road.

The new shared path will mostly be constructed above an existing open drain. The installation of new culverts will improve amenity of the streetscape and reduce flooding on Renwick Road.

Works will commence from 22 April – end September, subject to weather.

Please view the fact sheet and project page on the Whitsunday Regional Council site for more information.

Please help share this information to your family, friends, and networks.

Keep up to date on the project or subscribe for updates via the Yoursay Whitsunday project page on the council website.

Changes Ahead

At Kelsey Creek Landfill

Whitsunday Regional Council are developing a new cell at the Kelsey Creek Landfill in Proserpine.

The new cell will provide over five additional years of capacity for our waste system, servicing general waste for settlements in the south of the region.

Whilst construction is under way the following changes will take place:

• Non-recyclable commercial and industrial waste over 8T (GVM) or more than 2 axles will only be received by the Bowen landfill

• Commercial vehicles greater than 8t GVM and more than 2 axles will be redirected to Bowen landfill.

• Asbestos to be accepted in limited quantities only as per current acceptance processes.

Self-hauled domestic waste, recyclable

commercial and industrial waste will still be accepted at Kelsey Creek landfill as per normal operations.

Residents will experience no changes to waste pick-up or drop off at landfills or satellite facilities.

Commercial / Industrial and Commercial / Demolition materials transported in light rigid 2 axle vehicles up to 8t GVM will also continue to be accepted at Kelsey Creek landfill.

Some may notice an increase in skip bins travelling to Bowen, carrying domestic waste from rubbish trucks to help create the first soft layer of rubbish within the new Bowen landfill cell.

Construction will run from 1 May - 31 October 2024 (subject to weather).

Keep up to date on the project or subscribe for updates via the Yoursay Whitsunday project page on the council website.

Cub Scouts Awarded

Four inspiring Proserpine Cub Scouts have completed a range of bushwalking, bushcraft and camping activities and have now achieved the prestigious Grey Wolf Peak Award Badge.

During these endeavours they learnt compass work, first aid knowledge, how to read different maps, cook a meal on a campfire and camped a minimum five nights with the Scouts.

They also completed six different special interest projects and individually organised an adventurous activity.

Ryan Penhallurick walked 32 kilometres over nine bushwalks, camped 20 nights with Scouts over 11 camps and has been with Proserpine Scout Group for three years.

Savi Griffith has walked 23 kilometres over six bushwalks, camped 15 nights over eight camps and has been with Proserpine Scout Group for 2.5 years.

Benji Spann has walked 28 kilometres over eight bushwalks. Camped 10

nights over six camps and has been with Proserpine Scout Group for 2.5 years.

Jaxon Lyon has walked 33 kilometres over nine bushwalks. Camped 19 nights over 10 camps and has been with Proserpine Scout Group for three years.

To celebrate the occasion, the Proserpine Cub Scouts held a camp at Discovery Holiday Park, Airlie Beach, where they gave an award ceremony, friends and family of the youth were invited to attend and be a part of this special award ceremony.

Ryan, Savi, Benji and Jaxon have been working hard over the past 2-3 years in the Cub Scout Section to get this prestigious award. They all loved receiving their certificate, trophy and woggle for their scarf.

CANDLE LIGHTING VIGIL To Remember Those Lost

Two poignant ceremonies will be held in the region over the coming weeks, one candle lighting vigil will be held in Bowen and a second in Airlie Beach, both held in honour of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence over the past 12 months.

May is Australian Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, a time for the community to reflect, ignite change and show compassion for those impacted.

In Australia, at least one person is killed every week by an intimate partner and children are also victims in these homicides.

Sadly, many people are affected by domestic violence in the community. Everyone is welcome to attend these two special events, whether they would like to remember a family member or friend, or simply wish to show support and solidarity.

The Bowen vigil takes place on Friday 3rd May at 12pm in the Town Square which is next to the Bowen Library.

There will be a free sausage sizzle and informative guest speakers who will give an insight into domestic violence prevention.

The Airlie Beach candle lighting vigil will take place on Wednesday 1st May at the Whitsunday Marine Club (VMR) at 3.30pm.

There will be light drinks and refreshments available.

Both events are facilitated by Whitsunday Counselling and Support and you can confirm your attendance by calling 4946 2999.

Chamber Chat

and education to businesses, and to raise awareness of regional issues.

With Queensland kids and families going back to school and work, the NSW school holiday period is about to begin. Although many operators report softer than expected trade, the extended period of school holidays partially explains this and the overall result will be strong.

The Chamber’s recent business insurance event was lively and informative where attendees had direct access to leaders from the Insurance Council of Australia, Australian Financial Complaints Authority, and the Office of Queensland Small Business Commissioner.

Hot topics of conversation were business insurance pain points, key influences impacting the cost of insurance premiums, Cyclone Reinsurance Pool, underinsurance, relationships and access to quality insurance brokers, and practical tips on what to do now to protect your business from future natural disaster. The forum provided a chance for us to provide feedback on what the visiting organisations can do to improve their communication

Although it was a good turnout, I must express disappointment that the room was not packed full. Insurance is a massive problem for every business in the region. Charter boats operators, tour operators, trades and retail operators all have a lot to complain about and insurance is a genuine financial burden and impost.

Rarely do peak state and national bodies visit regional Australia, so when they do visit the Whitsundays, we shouldn’t miss these great opportunities to meet and exchange information that directly impacts your business performance and growth.

Speaking of, registrations are now open for our revised Whitsunday Business Conference program to be held 1:00pm-4:30pm Thursday 16 May at Mantra Club Croc.

Engage in conversation with our confirmed speakers Amanda Anderson (Bendigo Community Bank Cannonvale-Proserpine), Kristian Mullholland (Tassal), and Julia Wheway (TAFE Queensland) and others as they share their stories and strategies in a session on ‘Supercharging Your People Power’ to explore how businesses are managing shifting attitudes and work ethic in young people and an ageing workforce; and how businesses have re-invented themselves and overcome limitations in a session on ‘Don’t tell me it can’t be done!’  Visit our website to register today!

Suzi Quatro’s Guitarist Nat Allison And Band Performing In Whitsundays

ince birth, all Nat Allison has wanted to do is perform.

Every Friday night at 6pm the Jubilee Tavern comes alive with the sweet tunes from a local and talented musician.

On Friday 10 May, The Jubes welcomes RebelQuin to the stage.

Originally from Melbourne, RebelQuin moved to the area 12 years ago.

From a young age she knew she wanted a career in music.

“I have studied music, it has stayed with me, I have always felt passionate about music, and I have never travelled without an instrument, but never felt confident till my 30’s to make it a full-time career,” she said.

RebelQuin has performed numerous gigs at the Airlie Beach Music Festival, as well as in venues up and down the east coast of Australia.

She captivates her audiences with her

Growing up in the 80’s only amplified this, she would see all the 80’s rock stars with their long hair and incredible guitar solos, wanting to be up on stage right alongside them.

This inspiring era has now culminated in her own show called ‘Rock Chick’ which she brings to The Pub later this

But it has been a long and exciting career

At the age of 12, Nat’s father realised she was taking music seriously and moved the family to Melbourne so she could be surrounded by better teachers. Then at the young age of 13, when Nat took on her first role as lead singer in Melbourne, the rest of the band were over 30!

When she was 18, Nat worked with

unique blend of blues and indie rock.

Her pure love for music is contagious and she says “music connects us all together and is always there for us through the highs and lows.”

“If I am going through a rough time, there is always a song that makes me feel and I know if that singer or songwriter can get through this, so can I, it reminds us we belong and that we are not alone at all.”

“This is also what I love about performing, if I can connect to just one person and make them not feel alone, I have done my job.”

Aside from performing RebelQuin is also working on an EP titled ‘Outta My Mind’ and it’s coming soon.

Australian songwriter and producer, Mike Chapman.

A few years down the line Mike was writing songs for Suzi Quatro and asked if Nat would like to go to London to play on Suzi’s record.

“He loved my guitar playing and he knew that it would be what he needed to achieve with the up-and-coming album,” said Nat.

From here, Nat and Suzi built a relationship and stayed in contact after the album was recorded.

Years later Suzi was in touch with Nat regarding an upcoming festival in Australia and, as she decided not to bring her band with her from London, she asked if Nat could put a band together.

Since then, Suzi has used that same band for all of her Australian shows and they have performed in Japan and Canada too.

As a performer Nat said she has grown and learned a lot from the experience.

“It’s just been a great learning experience for me too. Because obviously, like I have all throughout my career, you’re constantly learning through observation,

as well as your own personal practice. It’s been wonderful in that sense,” Nat explained.

“She’s just such a fantastic performer, she puts together a really great show and the crowds just absolutely love her.”

Learning from the best and now performing like the best, Nat Allison and her band are bringing their exceptional talent to The Pub, Airlie Beach Hotel.

Nat and her band are set to bring the audience the sensational ‘Rock Chick’ show, getting the crowd pumping with a range of classics spanning four different decades.

From Katy Perry to Tina Turner this fourpiece band will blow your socks off!

This will be the band’s first time in the Whitsundays and they are looking forward to getting some sunshine and meeting the people in this great region.

Whitsunday United Weekly Football Report

U13 Division 1 were keen to get their season underway, taking on Wanderers Rubies. The WUFC shifted it up a gear at the end to win 6-4.

A hat-trick of goals for Tyson, two for Charley and one for Alex rounded out the scoring.

A fantastic team effort, showing great commitment to the final whistle.

Buoyed by their round 1 result, the U13 Prem team were quietly confident of a positive result against Rangers, but the visitors had other ideas.

WUFC found themselves 2 - 0 down early and had to dig deep to stay in the game.

Goals from Nick M and Shannon got WUFC back into the game by early in the second half, only to concede again. With WUFC pushing hard and creating chances, Bayden popped up to draw level again.

With the full-time whistle approaching, the game seemed destined for a draw, but Rangers rode their luck to score a winner against the run of play. A highly entertaining and tense affair, 4-3 to Rangers.

U15 Div 1 side came up against Dolphins Blue in the first home fixture of the season.

The Whitsunday Ladies clashed with Mackay Lions in what is traditionally a tough match up.

The U23 Ladies was a tight affair with both teams determined to assert their dominance.

The first half saw Whitsunday controlling possession and creating several scoring opportunities with Nicole finding the back of the net, putting Whitsunday ahead 1-0 as they headed into halftime with a well-deserved lead.

The second half Whitsunday increase their lead to 2-0.

The Lions fought back to narrow the gap. A brilliant goal by Ellyse from outside the 18 yard box sealed the game for the home side 3-2.

The Whitsunday Premier ladies took on Lions who were last years Premiership winners and the team Whitsunday defeated in the grand final.

RUGBY LEAGUE

Round 1 fixtures for Whitsunday Brahmans against Souths Sharks in Mackay Saturday afternoon.

Not a great result overall but plenty to build on. Unfortunately, the reserve grade side were unable to field a team for the round 1 clash but are looking to put a strong side in for Round 2.

First grade should be near full strength in this weekend when they host their first home game of the year against Wests Tigers.

This also coincides with the club’s annual sponsors day where sponsors are thanked for their contribution to the club.

First game of the season saw U20’s come in with a lot of fresh faces and old, as the

In a game full of passion and determination with neither side willing to back down, saw a 0-0 draw at half time.

Throughout the match the defence stood strong making it difficult for either team to make a break through.

Though the second half saw Lions finding the back of the net after several remarkable saves from GK Chloe Baker. The match ended 3-0.

The Men U23s had a tough contest with several cards being handed to both sides. Jack Robertson had a brilliant performance in goals thwarting many attempts to keep Whitsunday in the game.

Zac Kelley successfully scored from a penalty kick to level scores at 1 all, the match ended 1-1.

The Premier boys went in full of confidence against second place Lions. Whit-

Lanie’s team had a wonderful carnival progressing to the Grand Final. Their opponent in the final was Thuringowa who were undefeated through the rounds and Semi Final.

Cannons At Australian Swim Champs

Oteam debut 9 players in their first taste of senior football.

Full time score for the U20’s was 24-6 to Souths, but as the coach, did not have a lot of time, he couldn’t fault the effort and maturity that came from the experienced senior players and debutants.

In first grade errors and lack of discipline saw a saw a strong South outfit take the lead early and never look back. A 30 - 0 half time score line ended in a 54 - 4 final result.

Plenty will be taken away from the game by the young Brahmans for sure. There is enough talent in the side to turn things around quickly this week against Wests.

DARTS

After a couple of week’s break, the players returned to Premier League action on Sunday morning at the Airlie Bowls Club.

Kameron Reason made it 2 wins from 2 after dispatching Jayden Lloyd in fine fashion by a 7/1 scoreline. That win places Kam nicely in 4th spot on the league table. On the other end of the spectrum Jayden is still searching for his 1st win of the year, with tough matches against Jamie Maher and Joe Wilson next to come.

The ladder made for better reading for Jamie Maher after his two matches on Sunday morning, recording back-to-back victories over Hawkeye Rick 7/4 and Arthur McMinn 7/1.

Those wins gave Jamie his first points of the year, leaving him in 5th place on 4 points. He also slotted home a beautiful 171 in that match against Hawkeye, who is the only other player besides Jayden yet to score league points.

Arthur McMinn bounced back from that defeat to Jamie, with a win of his own, a fine 7/4 victory over Naomi Mitchell. That win leaves Arthur beautifully positioned in 2nd place on the league table, just a point behind Joe Wilson who has played a game less than Arthur.

The Premier League is sponsored by Mika Airlie, Whitsunday Tattooing and Master Butchers Whitsundays.

Don’t forget to enter our Anzac Plate competition. We are now taking entries. To enter, simply find us on Facebook or message Jamie on 0405411865.

UPGRADE OF FOOTPATH ON RENWICK ROAD

We are upgrading 1,065m of footpath on Renwick Road to a 3m wide shared path, from Gardenia Street to Stanbury Street! The proposed project will commence from the Bruce Hwy end of Renwick Road from 22 April - end September, completed in several 200m stages to minimise impacts. The shared path will predominately be constructed above existing open drain, including the installation of new culverts that will improve amenity of the streetscape and enhance the experience for pedestrians and cyclists. Renwick Road forms an essential part of the Proserpine active transport network, servicing three schools, parkland and residential areas, making the shared path upgrade a valuable project for the community. The shared path upgrade is supported by the State Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program. Read more information about project impacts or keep up to date with construction via our Online Engagement Portal https://bit.ly/Renwickfootpath

NEW CELL AT KELSEY CREEK LANDFILL

We are developing a new cell at the Kelsey Creek Landfill, Proserpine, from 1 May - 31 October 2024 (subject to weather). The new cell will provide over 5 additional years of capacity for our waste system, servicing general waste for settlements in the south of the Region. During construction, the following impacts to services are expected:

• Non-recyclable industrial and commercial waste over 8T (GVM) or more than 2 axles will only be received by the Bowen landfill from 1 May – 31 October, while works on the Kelsey Creek landfill are undertaken.

• All landfills will only accept limited quantities of asbestos, up to 300kg per day, please contact Council to schedule delivery and acceptance via phone 1300 972 753 or, email wastemanagement@ whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au

• Recyclable industrial and commercial waste is still accepted at the Kelsey Creek Landfill, we encourage all users to sort and recycle their waste to help extend our landfill capacities!

• Residents will experience no changes to waste pick-up or drop off at landfills or satellite facilities. Some may notice an increase in skip bins travelling to Bowen, carrying domestic waste from rubbish trucks to help create the first soft layer of rubbish within the new Bowen landfill cell.
