Alabaster Quartet with/out Major D (CH) Fifth Moonlightdrive - Psychedelic jazz Sa 21 - Do 22
Il gruppo si forma durante più fasi ciascuna delle quali fu ostensibilmente presidiata dal generale Mr. D. Generate. L’organizzazione prevede 4 musicisti tormentati dalla figura polifonica del generale: un anima dagli indugi equivoci ed erranti. Nel 2007 comunicò il suo ritorno agli elementi del quartetto mentre essi si preparavano ad approdare e rovesciare l’oggetto della monomania del generale. Tuttavia, durante la traversata dell’arcipelago la timorosa elusività della bianchezza (whiteness) cominciò a pervadere i musicisti che si arresero di fronte all’insoffribile senso lugubro. L’ insormontabile oceano pervaso da imagini riflesse obbliga il quartetto ad adunare sulle rive sedentarie di Lugano in attesa del richiamo nomadofonico di Major D. Generate. The group takes shape during several phases, each one visibly watched over by general Mr. D. Generate. The organization will include 4 musicians tormented by the polyphonic figure of the general: a soul full of ambiguous and roaming hesitations. In 2007, he announced his return to the members of the quartet while they were getting ready to settle and overturn the general’s monomania. However, during the crossing of the archipelago, the fearful elusiveness of the whiteness began to pervade the musicians who surrendered before the unbearable eerie sensation. The overwhelming ocean, pervaded by reflected images, forces the quartet to assemble on the sedentary banks of Lugano, waiting for the nomadophonic call of Major D. Generate.

Alex Barti (DK) Puppet show Me 18 - Gio 19 - Ve 20
Il Barti Show, spettacolo senza testo, è una performance di marionette per tutte le età. Tutta la storia e lo show sono narrati dai movimenti e dalla musica; Barti è infatti un musicista che performa attraverso la musica e il mimo i suoi numeri. Il contatto col pubblico è un filo che attraversa tutta la performance, dall’inizio alla fine. Nel Barti Puppetshow lui è il capo di numerose corde, non può compiere nessun movimento col suo proprio corpo. A causa di questo tutta la sua espressività confluisce in quest’unica forma comunicativa: la marionetta. The Barti Puppet Show, has no scheduled script, it is a marionette performance for crowds of all ages. The theme of their story however, is told simply through the music and movement of his puppets. Barti, a complete musician and mime, uses his skills as a master. Throughout the show he establishes a strong link with his spectators, moving his ‘musician-puppets’ to perform hit tracks. Since 1986 the Barti Puppet Show has become more and more sophisticated and complex, and though performing semi-still, he enthusiasms the crowds with the strings commanding the antics of his fabulously funny marionettes!
Andrea Bignasca (CH) c/o Vermillion Rouge) Music - Rock Me 18 - Ve 20
Andrea Bignasca è il cantante dei Vermillion Rouge, band ormai espansa a Zurigo e Losanna. Il rock, le sue radici ed i suoi sviluppi più recenti intridono gli accordi e le note della formazione ridotta al minimo: voce, chitarra, e anima. Andrea Bignasca is the lead-singer of the Vermillion Rouge, a well-known rock band, especially popular in Zurich and Lausanne. Rock music roots and a progressive sound characterize Andrea’s solo performances, essentially voice, guitar and lots of feeling. 15
ANNINA SEDLÁČEK (CH) Il baule volante Me 18
Con quattro sedie, una fisarmonica ed un baule l’attrice Annina Sedláček vola in terre lontane. Nel pezzo “La valisch sgoulanta” la giovane engadinese racconta del figlio dell’affarista che aveva dilapidato tutti i suoi averi ed era rimasto con solo la camicia da notte e le pantofole. Un suo amico gli regala un baule magico e il viaggio avventuroso incomincia. Annina Sedláček si è ispirata al racconto di Hans Christian Andersen “Il baule volante”. With the help of four chairs, an accordion and a big trunk, the actress Annina Sedláček flies off to far-away places. In her act, ‘La Valisch Sgoulanta’, the young Engandinese protagonist of the performance narrates a story about the son of a rich business broker who squanders his fortune, retaining only a nightshirt and a pair of slippers. One day a friend gives him a magic trunk, in which a magic voyage will take him to great adventures. Annina takes inspiration from a fable by Hans Christian Anderson, called “the flying trunk”.
BABYLOU AND THE BALKAN LOVERS (CH) Balkan Sa 21 - Do 22
BabyLou and the Balkan Lovers presentano uno spettacolo carico di allegria. Un giro del mondo dal Brasile ai Balcani tra Jazz, Bossanova, ritmi in 7/8, canzoni tradizionali e classiche, in un miscuglio Gipsy unico ed emozionante fatto d’improvvisazioni e poesia. BabyLou and the Balkan Lovers present a show full of cheerfulness. A tour of the world from Brazil to the Balkans, with Jazz, Bossanova, rhythms in 7/8, traditional and classic songs, in a unique and thrilling Gypsy mixture, made of improvisations and poetry.

BLACK LIPS (USA) Psychedelic punk Sa 21 (Caso pioggia: Il Foce)
I Black Lips – Cole Alexander cantante-bassista, Jared Swilley cantante-chitarrista, Ian St. Pé e il cantante-batterista Joe Bradley – non hanno mai collaborato con un produttore prima di imbarcarsi nell’attuale album. Tuttavia stavolta la band ha deciso di collaborare con uno dei produttori presenti nella loro breve lista: Mark Ronson, il produttore inglese conosciuto per entrambi i suoi sharplyhoned album solo Version and Record Collection e il suo lavoro di produzione secondo i gusti di Sean Paul, Nas, Adele, Kaiser Chiefs, Duran Duran, Lily Allen, e i più notevoli divi inglesi di soul-pop. “Quando la cosa venne fuori pensammo che per il pop da mainstream il suo lavoro aveva le ragioni di un gusto retro che apprezzavamo”, dice Cole. “Sapevamo di avere il potenziale per ottenere un sound più antico. Non siamo dei puristi che semplicemente ricercano un sound vecchio, ma ci sono alcune tecniche di registrazione che venivano usate molto tempo fa e che suonano veramente bene, e che possono essere usate nel contesto odierno. Ci siamo accorti che lui capiva questo”. The Black Lips have never worked with a producer before embarking on the present album. But this time the band has decided to collaborate with one of the producers appearing on their short list: Mark Ronson, the English producer known for both his sharply-honed solo album Version and Record Collection, and his production work according to the taste of Sean Paul, Nas, Adele, Kaiser Chiefs, Duran Duran, Lily Allen and the most renowned English soul-pop stars. “When we started thinking about it, we thought that as for mainstream pop, his work had a vintage taste which we loved”, says Cole. “We knew that we could produce an older sound. We are not purists who simply seek a sound from the past, but there are some recording techniques which were used a long time ago that sound really good and that can still be used today. 17
Bloody Malmör (CH) Raw blues rock Me 18 - Gio 19
“Music by people who doesn’t play for people who doesn’t listen” Timido e simpatico questo duo lascerà spuntare le sue note fra i luoghi più insoliti. La sua scarna strumentazione potrebbe impedirgli di superare i muri di foglie, di diffidenza, di acqua, di indifferenza, ma l’energia trasmessa dai musicisti agli strumenti e di qui all’etere sotto forma di onde potrebbe infrangere le verità degli studi di fisica del suono. “Music by people who don’t play, for people who don’t listen”. This nice, shy and unusual music duo plays their tracks in some very unusual locations. Their elementary instruments could represent an obstacle in overcoming the barriers of leaves, water, mistrust and especially indifference, but the energy the musicians put into their instruments and then into the air form potent sound-waves capable of shattering any truth regarding the physics of sound.
Bängditos (D) Crazy firefighters comedy Ve 20 - Sa 21 Hanno detto che sarebbero arrivati con un camion dei pompieri. Hanno detto che vorrebbero collaborare con i vigili del fuoco locali. Hanno mandato una lista di petardi chiedendo quali erano legali dalle nostre parti. Hanno bisogno di 1000 litri d’acqua e diversi volontari. Quindi facciamoli arrivare e vediamo quel che succederà. They said they would arrive with a truckload of firefighters. They said they would like to collaborate with the local firefighters. They sent a list of firecrackers, asking which ones would be legal in our area. They need 1000 liters of water and several volunteers. So let them come and let’s see what happens. 18
Chris Lynam (UK) Crazy comedy Ve 20 - Sa 21
Why this job? I do this job because if I hit people in real life I would be in prison, but now I can do it & people laugh. What makes you happy? Money makes me happy, but also unhappy, because when I have some, I spend it, and then I realise its not enough! Whaaaaaaa! What’s funny for you? Buster Keaton is funny for me, and when children fall over when they are learning to walk, & the things they say when they are learning to talk. What drives you doing this? There is a big Clown God with a big stick, & if I don’t make people laugh, I get a big smak on the bum! That’s not the first time you come here: which experiences have you had in Lugano? I love the desert in Lugano, and the way everybody speaks Japanese and looks Japanese and all the Japanese restaurants and Japanese cars, motorbikes and boats. I also love the way the fish come out of the lake at night and have private parties in the park. Its a pity there are so many mountains. If you like, I could spend a few days after the festival taking them down and making sure everything was flat!

Cortomobile (I) Il cinema piú piccolo del mondo Me 18 - Gio 19 - Ve 20 - Sa 21 - Do
Cortomobile, il cinema più piccolo del mondo viaggia a bordo dell’ALFA ROMEO 2000 Berlina, prima serie del 1974, color verde pino. E’un cinema su quattro ruote che proietta una scelta di 70 cortometraggi di Hulot Distribution. Gli spettatori ordinano il cortometraggio preferito dal CORTOMENU’ o, affidandosi al destino, pescano il corto in formato pergamena da un’ ampolla gigante di vetro, la maschera apre le portiere e poi entrano dentro Cortomobile, accomodandosi sui sedili color biscotto. Tirate le tendine di raso bordeaux, buio in sala, il proiettore sulla bauliera proietta la pellicola sullo schermo sopra il volante di legno e dalle casse degli anni settanta parte il sonoro. Inizia lo spettacolo, il pubblico è catapultato dentro la storia: sembra di poter prendere per mano i protagonisti, fare un passo ed entrare nello schermo. L’abitacolo diventa una scatola magica. ‘Cortomobile’, the world’s smallest cinema, travels aboard a 1974, pine-green Alfa Romeo 2000 saloon car! It is a movie-house with 4 wheels, offering two spectators a choice of 70 short-films, provided by Hulot Distribution, picked, either through the on-demand ‘SHORT-MENU’ or chosen at random, in a ‘lucky-dip’ where they fish a parchment with the title from an incongruously gigantic glass vase… Then the usherette opens the ‘Cortomobile’ doors to the spectator/s who take place in the biscuit-colored seats before the plush, purple window-curtains are closed. The show starts in the dark space, the projector, located in the back trunk animates the screen sited above the wooden steering wheel, while classic 1970 speakers provide hi-fi sound. The spectators are surrounded by the story they chose, catapulted among the movie’s protagonists, one-step away from the action. The car’s interior becomes a truly magical box. 20
Dado (CAN) Visual comedy Me 18 - Gio 19 - Ve 20 - Sa 21 - Do 22
DADO delizia il pubblico col suo silenzioso e clownesco personaggio “Mon Oncle le bossu”. Questo simpatico gobbo porta sul palco comicità unita a sentimento. Mon Oncle presenta un misto di magia, improvvisazione e comica gestualità . È capace di divorare palline da ping-pong, palloncini e pure cagnolini. A volte la gente è cosi affascinata da lui che non importa quanto il suo show possa sembrare assurdo, anche suonare delle galline vi sembrerà fantastico. Se permetterete al vostro cuore di librarsi in volo e alla vostra mente di aprirsi alla pazzia di Mon Oncle le bossu, le risate saranno assicurate! DADO (Comedian Daniel Warr) delights his audience with his silent clown cliché act, ‘Mon Oncle le Bossu’. This likeable hunchback’s art, combines comedy and sentiment. Mon Oncle‘s performance includes a touch of magic, improvisation and slapstick comedy. He can swallow table-tennis balls, balloons and even little dogs. He astonishes watchers to the extent that they enjoy the utter absurdities of his acts… surprises galore, like playing music with chickens! If you release your heart and let your mind fly together with the madness of Mon Oncle le Bossu, you will laugh yourself silly!

Dimitar Germanov - Memento (BG) Crystal ball dance Sa 21 - Do 22
La percezione quotidiana è quella dell’ininterrotto scorrere del tempo. Noi esseri umani seguiamo nella nostra vita un sentiero già pensato per noi da qualche forza superiore. La gravità? Noi reagiamo agli eventi che ci si fanno incontro. Gli avvenimenti del tempo personale originano micromondi, storie, parole, sguardi che noi lanciamo come palle che corrono attraverso lo spazio e cadono nella buca della nostra esistenza. Lo show prova a comunicare il sentimento che uno ha al momento della morte, quando vediamo tutti i momenti e le memorie (Mementos) della nostra vita che scorrono davanti ai nostri occhi come la pellicola di un film - per ricordare ciò che abbiamo sempre saputo - che non c’è tempo. The day to day perception is that of the passing of time. During their life, humans follow a path preordained by some superior force. Gravity? We react to the events that we encounter. Our personal events generate micro-worlds, stories, words, glances which we cast like balls that hurtle through space and fall into the hole of our existence. The show tries to communicate the feeling one has at the time of death, when we see all our moments and memories (Mementos) of our life stream before our eyes like a movie – to remind us of what we have always known – that there is no time.

Quelli che sono sempre stati i luoghi prediletti dal punk stanno lentamente aprendo le loro porte a turbolente e chiassose variazioni del blues. Dopo anni di rumore, chitarre distorte e numerosi amplificatori da trasportare, Huck, Johnny e Max hanno deciso di avviare un’acoustic band con la quale i concerti nelle strade e nei piccoli bar fossero possibili. Chris non aveva nient’altro da fare oltre a curare i cani, così ha acquistato un contrabbasso al mercato delle pulci. Electric Circus è un duo Tedesco che combina l’arte classica delle marionette con le moderne tecniche dei robot. Hanno creato un piccolo circo con una scimmia che sembra essere veramente viva. Salta e urla, va in bicicletta, esegue performance musicali ed elabora i suoi tricks… Ma soprattutto questa piccola scimmia è capace di colpire dritto al cuore giovani e vecchi. Electric Circus is a German duo combining the traditional art of puppet-shows with modern robot techniques. They have created a tiny ‘circus’ with a monkey that really seems alive, riding its bike, jumping and screaming hilariously, as it performs everything from songs to acrobatic tricks. Their little creature has the gift to equally move both adults and kids! The duo will perform a new show called ‘Dirk’, which envisages a clochard-robot marionette who moves around the streets, greatly surprising all those he bumps into!
Emilio e una nota (CH) Young rock Do 22
Ufficialmente è una colonia musicale per ragazzi tra i 13 e 16 anni, in realtà è un’esperienza di vita. Restano tre settimane in una capanna sotto la diga del Luzzone dove scrivono canzoni, imparano a suonare strumenti, ascoltano musica e passeggiano tra le montagne. La colonia si conclude con la stampa di un album che presenteranno in concerto al buskers. Dei grandi. Officially, this is a music camp for youngsters 13 to 16 years of age, but in reality it is a life changing experience. They will stay for three weeks in a hut at the foot of the Luzzone dam, where they will be writing songs, learning how to play instruments, listening to music and taking walks in the mountains. The camp ends with the recording of an album that they will present.

Partiti dal repertorio tradizionale della musica Yiddish, sviluppano la loro musica lungo direzioni differenti, proposte dalle altrettanto differenti esperienze dei singoli componenti. Infatti il gruppo è formato da sei giovani musicisti di differente formazione (musica classica, contemporanea, jazz, popolare) amalgamati in un ensemble colorato dal coinvolgente pigmento della “banda” e della danza, capace però di sfumare su toni più cameristici, adatti a situazioni anche formali. Gli Errichetta Underground propongono un programma divertente e coinvolgente, rivisitando l’affascinante repertorio klezmer, genere musicale di tradizione ebraica divenuto ormai un classico in tutto il mondo, con la sua irresistibile miscela di stilemi dell’area est-europea. Uniti dalla gioia di suonare insieme, colorano di rinnovata allegria pietre miliari della musica Klezmer, senza nulla togliere al profumo mistico della tradizione. Un semplice obiettivo: divertirsi e divertire suonando... Un concerto da ascoltare e da ballare “Play with joy or do not play!” Strongly involved in the traditional repertoires of Yiddish music, the richness and originality of Errichetta springs from the diverse experiences of the band members. In fact the group is composed of six young musicians, trained in different genres, from jazz to contemporary classical avant-garde, jazz, folk music, joined together in a colorful performance with the hues of folk dance and traditional band music with the capability to switch into proper chamber music, when formal situations require. The Enrichettas offer a joyful selection of famed and sophisticated Yiddish repertoire, playing with great energy the Klezmer genre which has become famous worldwide for the appealing eastEuropean musical strains. 25

Entrambi inglesi, dopo essersi incontrati nel 2009 a Nelson in Nuova Zelanda, Dave Crowe e Andy Balcon hannno girato in tour tutta la east coast del sud dell’isola con le loro performance di strada fino a Cristchurch. Mentre guadagnavano l’attenzione dei media e dei giornali neozelandesi, gli Heymoonshaker sono stati scritturati dal Global Busking Festival di Cristchurch, stipulando un contratto con Backyard Music productions, un agente per eventi locali. Both English, after meeting in 2009 in Nelson, New Zealand, Dave Crowe and Andy Balcon have toured with their street performance the entire east coast of South Island, up to Christchurch. While they were garnering the attention of the media and of the New Zealand press, the Heymoonshaker were hired by the Global Busking Festival of Christchurch, negotiating a contract with the production house Backyard Music, an agency for local events. 29

The ‘I Camillas’ were born in Pordenone, in 1964, and formed by Ruben Camillas (guitars, xylophone, voice) and Zagor Camillas, (keyboards, cymbal, voice); for 40 years they are inactive in the music scene, until, in 2004, something clicks, and the Rock’n’Roll scenario acclaims them… they quickly accept, and here they are.

Anche quando magari non si è più bambini… Lasciamoci sorprendere per strada, nel bel mezzo del traffico urbano, in una piazza, su una scalinata o in un parco da uno strano duo di “pronto racconto” che ci sussurra nelle orecchie piccole storie, aneddoti, favole e poesie attraverso il magico strumento de l’imbutubi®. Reazioni del pubblico? Questo semplice modo di raccontare suscita la curiosità dei passanti, la gente si ferma, osserva, vuole provare. Si creano code di persone in attesa, lo spazio si anima. Con gli occhi chiusi si assapora la storia prescelta e in soli due minuti la cura del sorriso è assicurata! It’s always nice to listen to stories. Even when one is no longer a child. Let us be surprised on the street, in the very middle of urban traffic, in a square, on a flight of stairs or in a park, by a strange duo of “pronto racconto” [“ready tale”] who whispers in our ears little stories, anecdotes, fables and poems through the magical instrument of the imbutubi®. The reactions of the public? This simple means of narration arouses the curiosity of the passers-by. People stop, observe, want to try. Lines of people form waiting their turn, the place gets lively. With eyes shut one savours the chosen tale and in only two minutes the smile therapy will do the trick. 31

Joan Wasser, nome d’arte Joan As Police Woman, è nata nello stato americano del Maine e cresciuta in Connecticut. Studia pianoforte dall’età di sei anni, ma si innamora presto del violino. Suonando questo strumento inizia la sua carriera musicale unendosi alla band dei Dambuilders. L’entusiasmo e la sua voglia di percorrere nuovi ambiti musicali la porta a lavorare con artisti come Lou Reed, Elthon John e Rufus Wainwright. Si trasferisce a New York nel 2002 ed è nella Grande Mela che prende forma il suo nome d’arte. “Police Woman” era una serie televisiva degli anni ’70 con Angie Dickinson. Lei era una poliziotta infiltrata ed era veramente tosta. Mi piaceva molto, spiega. L’ultimo lavoro della cantante si chiama “The Deep Field”. Il titolo è ispirato a un’immagine catturata dal telescopio spaziale Hubble in orbita intorno al nostro pianeta. Trae ispirazione dalla bellezza della vita e vuole cantare della gioia che sente. In un mondo come il nostro dove la negatività e le brutte notizie sono ormai all’ordine del giorno, l’artista sceglie di scrivere canzoni che parlano di speranza. Joan Wasser, aka Joan As Police Woman, was born in the American state of Maine and grew up in Connecticut. She began to study piano at six, but very soon she fell in love with the violin. Her career started when she joined the Dambuilders band. Her enthusiasm and her desire to explore new musical frontiers led her to work with artists like Lou Reed, Elton John and Rufus Wainwright. She moved to New York in 2002 and it was in the Big Apple that her stage name took shape. The singer’s last work is entitled “The Deep Field”. The title derives from an image captured by the space telescope Hubble in orbit around our planet. She is inspired by life’s beauty and wants to sing about the joy she feels. In a world like ours where negativity and bad news are by now the order of the day, the artist chooses to write songs that speak of hope. 32
Julot (F) Flying comedy Me 18 - Gio 19 - Ve 20 - Sa 21 Un palo che si eleva tra quadrati colorati, degli hula hoops sospesi su alcuni cavi… Ed ecco il nostro uomo, dall’andatura ciondolante, che con la stessa energia, comincerà a farneticare nei dintorni del palo, per poi dare vita ad alcuni cerchi, grazie al ritmo del suo corpo, felicemente ispirato dai colori e dalla musica… fino a trovarsi , tra vertigini e pericolosi ondeggiamenti,… a nove metri d’altezza! Nella tradizione del circo e delle sue imprese, tra il cielo e la terra, Julot ci spaventa e ci fa ridere. Ci farà ritrovare il delizioso gusto della vertigine. A pole arising among colored squares, hula-hoops hanging from cables, the simplest of sets for our Man… Julot’s springing pace brings him to start working frenetically around his pole, eventually beginning to rotate the hoops to the rhythm of his body, enhanced by the lively colors and music, rising slowly until - with spells of vertigo and faux-passes, climbing slowly, he reaches the pole’s 9 meter summit ! Following circus traditions, the acrobat or flying comedian, suspended between land and sky, at the same time holds everyone’s attention by amusing and frightening the spectators, projecting the fear of heights to all the giggling crowds.

La Longleic Butic è un atelier d’illustrazione all’aperto travestita però da negozietto di souvenirs, un po’ kitsch, come se ne trovano in tutti i luoghi turistici del mondo. La differenza è però che tutti gli articoli che si trovano alla Longleic Butic sono realizzati dagli illustratori (cartoline, t-shirts, statuette...). I passanti, abitanti e turisti, possono fermarsi a guardare gli artisti lavorare, fare due chiacchiere con loro, ma anche acquistare a dei prezzi simbolici i pezzi unici presenti nella boutique e tutto questo passeggiando nel centro città. Tutte le creazioni hanno il tema ricorrente della vacanza, dell’ozio, della natura e del lago. Una bella iniziativa per sorprendere i passanti con l’arte del souvenir e per rivalutare questo tipo di oggetto riportandolo, dalla produzione seriale made in china, alla creazione unica d’autore. La casetta di legno che ospiterà questa particolare boutique sarà posizionata a partire dal 17 luglio in Piazza Manzoni. Ursula e Antoine vi aspettano! “Make Plain“: una semplice espressione inglese “rendere semplice“. Dal settembre 2011 Luca e Andrea, entrambi coinvolti anche in gruppi rock, fanno di questa espressione uno stile di vita, una sorta di filosofia musicale che si aggrappa ad un genere altrettanto semplice come quello della country music. Una formazione essenziale che permette di offrire al mondo della musica la pura semplicità del suono di due chitarre sommata all’armonia di due voci ; il tutto viene sorretto dal ritmo assiduo di un treno merci, che generato da una grancassa sostiene ostinatamente le loro canzoni. “Make Plain”- a simple English expression meaning ‘“simplify”, is this duo’s name. Luca and Andrea joined forces in September 2011- merging their prior experiences in other rock bands. Their music philosophy and lifestyle converge, and the choice of expressing themselves through the simplest genre of country music, confirms their approach. Two guitars and a bass drum plus their own voices form the essence of their sound. The persistent beat from the bass drum gives body and a characteristic sound to the songs performed by this elementary rock’n’roll duo.

Mirtillo & The Fruits (CH) Swing jazz Do 22
I “Mirtillo & The Fruits” nascono quasi per gioco. Percussioni improvvisate, linee vocali, una chitarra in stile “manouche”, il celebre genere che tanto piaceva a Django Reinhardt, sonorità gipsy, blues, jazz, tutto intrecciato nel piacere di produrre del suono che non per forza necessiti di supporti elettronici per far udire la voce. Non mancano inoltre gli standard della tradizione jazzistica afroamericana e non si tralascia nemmeno una vena di blues arcaico. “Mirtillo & the Fruits” were born almost in jest. Improvised percussions, vocal lines, a guitar “manouche” style, the famous genre that Django Reinhardt liked so much, gypsy tunes, blues, jazz, all this interwoven in the pleasure of producing a sound that would not necessarily need electronic supports to make its voice audible. There are standard pieces of the Afro-American jazz tradition with a vein of archaic blues.

Nadine Carina è una cantante folk e scrittrice di musica sperimentale, metà italiana metà croata, nata in Svizzera e con base nel Regno Unito. Componendo musica con la sua chitarra, un pianoforte e altri bizzarri strumenti sulla sua MIDI Keyboard, ha realizzato 3 homemade EPs e si è spostata in Inghilterra dove ha lanciato il suo primo album. “Magic box” è stato realizzato dalla Stattmusik Records nel settembre del 2011 e nominato “Album of The Week” su Radio Kanal K. Il suo prossimo EP sarà un insieme di 4 tracce, e s’intitola “Things that people Love to remember”. Realizzato da sola e atteso per l’Estate del 2012. Nadine Carina is a folk singer and a composer of experimental music, half Italian and half Croatian, born in Switzerland and based in the United Kingdom. Composing music with her guitar, a piano and other odd instruments on her MIDI Keyboard, she has produced three homemade EPs and has moved to England where she launched her first album. “Magic box” was produced by Stattmusik Records in September 2011, and was named “Album of the Week” on Radio Kanal K. Her next EP will be an ensemble of 4 tracks, and is entitled “Things that people Love to remember”. Produced by herself alone and expected by the Summer of 2012. 39

La Old Fish Jazzband è formata da membri troppo stupidi per morire, haferflockenswingers, cyclowncircus e altri. Con una strumentazione tipica degli anni ’10 e ’20 del Novecento suonano il jazz più antico del mondo, che a suo tempo era chiamato ragtime, nato a New Orleans ed esploso dal blues e dai negro spirituals al tempo della segregazione e delle Leggi Jim Crow. Al giorno d’oggi, questo stile unico è sempre più difficile da trovare e non può essere imparato in nessuna scuola o conservatorio. Deve essere studiato dalle vecchie registrazioni, dai libri e dalle biografie. Questa musica si adatta perfettamente a bar pieni di fumo e taverne, happening di swing-dance, dinnerparties e anche all’angolo della porta di casa tua. The Old Fish Jazzband is composed of musicians who define themselves ‘too stupid to die’... haferflocken-swingers, cyclown-circus, and others. Using instruments dating back to 1910, 1920, their music is the very origins of Jazz, once knows as Ragtime, born in black New Orleans, springing from the ‘Negro-Spirituals’ reacting to the terrible Jim Crow segregation laws . Nowadays this unique style is rare to find and is not taught in music schools or conservatories, it can be learnt through old recordings, biographies and books. It is a music which seems to fit into smoky bars and pubs, swing-dance dinner parties or wherever a sensitive crowd is gathered. 40

A women and a man play together the drumbeat, guitar’n’drum based on fife’n’drum music, they like to play long shows, they like to play groovy and raw, they free to sing what they want and they don’t lick somebody’s ass, they proud and try not to lie. Strange finger picking, sliding with bottleneck and butter knife, open tuned guitar where rhythm is king. Lo spettacolo di strada di Peter Weyel gira da più di 20 anni per i festival di teatro di strada in tutta l´Europa. Apparentemente di pessimo umore, Peter Weyel presenta un fuoco d´artificio di spettacolo artistico. Il contatto diretto col pubblico, che si crea come per caso, si sviluppa in una performance travolgente, nella quale gli spettacolari trucchi vengono presentati casualmente e come imprevisti. Un piatto rotto, una tigre addestrata e biancheria intima all’ultima moda, portano lo spettatore a domandarsi se Peter Weyel é pazzo oppure é geniale. Sicuramente non é uno spettacolo ordinario, ma di sicuro è un’esibizione che diventa materia di discussione ad ogni festival e lascia ogni volta tanti spettatori entusiasti. Peter Weyel’s street performance has been on the road for over 20 years now, recurring in most Street Theatre Festivals all over Europe. His approach is unusual, as he appears in a terrible temper, while arranging his explosive show. He creates an unusual, off-hand bond with his spectators drawing them into his roaring show, where some of his tricks seem to happen by pure chance. From a broken plate to a tamed tiger, or latest fashion in underwear, the performance elements keep people wondering whether Peter is out of his mind or pure genius! This show is far from being ordinary and is undoubtedly the object of discussion in every Festival where his lucky spectators are always enthusiastic. 42
Reverend Beat-Man (CH) Blues Trash Ve 20 (Caso pioggia: Il Foce) Sicuramente uno dei personaggi più misteriosi del Buskers. Predicare è il linguaggio che preferisce, non perchè abbia davvero una coscienza ma perchè secondo lui il vero valore delle cose sta nella musica, i vinili, le donne e la Voodoo Rhythm Records, casa discografica di cui è padrone e soprattutto padre. Non è bellissimo ma è bellissimo. Definitely one of the most mysterious characters of the Buskers. Preaching is his language of preference, not because he really has a conscience, but because, according to him, the true value of all things resides in music, vinyl records, women, and the Voodoo Rhythm Records, a record label he owns and, above all, he founded. He’s not very beautiful but he’s very beautiful.

“The Reverend and the Lady” ovvero: Mauro Ferrarese voce, chitarra resofonica & dodici corde, banjo, autoharp e Alessandra Cecala contrabbasso e voce. “Tracks from ol’ station” è il loro primo lavoro in duo registrato durante tre giorni di session live alla vecchia stazione dei treni per la Val di Fiemme a Ora in Sudtirol. Si tratta di una selezione eterogenea di musica popolare nata tra gli anni ‘20 e gli anni ‘40 del sud degli Stati Uniti. Si spazia dal country blues alla musica old time, passando per il blues più “urbano” delle cantanti dell’epoca, dalle ballad e dagli spirituals. ‘The Reverend and the Lady’, AKA Mauro Ferrarese (Voice, 12-chord & steelguitar, banjo, autoharp) and Alessandra Cecala (double- bass and Voice) both members of band ‘The Red Wine Serenaders’. “Tracks from ol’ station” is the first duo project of the new formation: this fine, live-recording was produced in a 3-day session, at the Val di Flemme, Old Train Station, located in Ora, SouthTyrol. The collection is a varied mix of folk and popular Southern States’ American music themes, dating back between the 20ies and the 40ies. Many of the tracks originate within the Afro-American tradition and the album ranges from old-time, country blues, to newer urban blues, ballads and spirituals, including many hits sung by the stars of those decades. 44

T. Andrew è uno scrittore di canzoni indipendente: chitarrista e cantante, vive in Ticino. Scrive musica in inglese ed è un autodidatta della chitarra. Il nuovo album, “New Waves”, è pieno di emozioni e cambiamenti. Parla degli eventi recenti e dei grandi cambiamenti della sua vita; parla sinceramente col cuore e ed è qeullo che lo rende speciale. Ha abbandonato la sua carriera nel campo del business perché crede di poter dare al mondo e ai suoi spettatori qualcosa di speciale. T. Andrew is an independent songwriter, singer and guitar-player, who lives in Ticino, writes his lyrics in English and has learnt to play the guitar by himself. The new album, titled ‘New Waves’ expresses strong emotions and new approaches. It is centered around major changes in society and in the author’s life; it is a very special project, because he opens his heart to his art. Andrew declares: “I left my business because I feel I can give the world and my audience something really unique”.

Teatrino dei piedi (ARG/I) Visual comedy Sa 21 - Do 22 Veronica Gonzalez è nata a Buenos Aires (Argentina) e dal 2000 vive in Italia e partecipa ai festival di teatro di figura a livello nazionale e internazionale. All’età di 15 anni ha realizzato il suo primo lavoro come burattinaia presso una compagnia professionale a Buenos Aires e ha continuato il suo percorso artistico investigando diverse discipline come la musica e la recitazione. In Italia conosce Laura Kibel e da lei impara la tecnica del teatro dei piedi dove le gambe e i piedi diventano buffi personaggi capaci di trasmettere al pubblico le più variate emozioni. Veronica Gonzalez was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and has lived in Italy since the year 2000 and participates in puppet theatre festivals at national and international level. At the age of 15, she got her first job as a puppeteer with a professional company in Buenos Aires, and has continued her artistic career investigating various disciplines like music and acting. In Italy, she meets Laura Kibel, from whom she learns the technique of “legpuppets” where legs and feet become comic characters capable of transmitting to the public a whole range of emotions.

I Faina sono l’unica band country-blues del bellinzonese, composta da Denni Faina, Nick Faina & Z; tre country-boys un po’ punk...Fanno un mix di cover rock n roll - country blues e pezzi loro. Il loro idoli sono John Lee Hoocker e John Denver, le leggende. Chitarra acustica, contrabbasso, armonica, cassa e rullante… la strada é l’unico vero palco per le faine. The Faina are the only country-blues band in the area around Bellinzona. Members are Denni Faina, Nick Faina, & Z, three country-fans, with a touch of punk. Their repertoire contains plenty of rock’n’roll cover hits, country-blues, and a few of their own songs. Acoustic guitar, double-base, accordion, base and snare drums... the streets are the only real venue for the Faina.

Nascono nel 2010 e la musica che suonano è semplice, sincera, e conduce ad atmosfere e immaginari che richiamano alla mente visioni di ragazzi che sfidano le rapide del Mississippi, l’edera scossa dai soffi di vento nella campagna inglese o le fiabe raccontate nella notte della savana africana. The Wife suona il folk, The Woman il blues, The Thieves il country; insieme la band propone un rock acustico mescolato a un pizzico di world music. Nessun uso di effetti, nessun additivo o colorante artificiale. The music we play is simple, but very sincere, conveying atmospheres and visual meanings recalling images of boys rafting on the Mississippi, of wind shaking the heather on the English countryside or of lullabies told at night in the African savannah. The Wife plays folk, the Woman plays blues, and The Thieves plays country and the band plays acoustic rock with a little hint of world music. No use of effects, no additives or artificial coloring.

Sono nati come band di strada, hanno imparato a fare scempio degli strumenti acustici per ottenere la stessa intensità e lo stesso casino che si ottiene da quelli elettrici. Il “Busking Tour” si propone di sottolineare la loro urgenza folk senza sacrificare un briciolo d’energia, anzi. Nei primi tre mesi di tour elettrico hanno girato in lungo e in largo: uno zoom viscerale fin sulle rughe e le scarpe di marca degli ultimi degli ultimi, coloro che per scelta, per forza o per vocazione la vita la subiscono e basta: i nati per subire. Un po’ tutti gli altri, ma un po’ tutti noi. Perché la questione non è se Dio esiste o meno, ma se esistiamo noi ed in che misura. Piccole preghiere pagane, fotografie impietose, lacrime da coccodrillo, strade che non portano a nulla, speranze e sogni infranti presi a colpi di tosse e vino scadente, risate amare, cattivi che generano altri cattivi e via così, a spasso nella voglia di vivere (e morire) nonostante tutto. They originate as a street band, and during the experience they have learnt to humiliate their acoustic instruments, forcing the same intensity and amps one generally expects from electric ones. The ‘Busking Tour’ aims at stressing their Folk background, without giving up one iota of energy, in fact … In the initial 3 months of gigs they want to zoom deeply into the wrinkles, into the famous brands of our humblest spectators’ shoes, exploring the lives of those who by choice, by force, by vocation, are forced to undergo life’s rules. The underdogs. Part of whom we are. Because the question is not if God does exist or not, it is whether we exist and how. Small pagan prayers, uncharitable photos, crocodile’s tears, roads leading nowhere, lost dreams, lost hope, shredded by coughing and cheap wine, cruel bitter laughing, the bad who generate the worse, … and so forth, meandering forth wanting to live (and to die) despite it all. 49
Tim Holehouse (UK) Delta blues Me 18 - Gio 19
Immaginatevi l’archetipica immagine di un bluesman, emarginato dalla società e perseguitato da demoni personali. Uno che suonava la chitarra enfatizzando il ritmo e l’uso del “bottleneck” slide. Uno che, in qualsiasi città, avreste potuto trovare a cantare all’angolo di una strada, di fronte al barbiere o davanti al ristorante locale. Un musicista capace di stabilire un rapporto con il suo pubblico. Uno che in ogni città in cui si sarebbe fermato, sarebbe riuscito a stabilire con la comunità locale dei legami che gli sarebbero stati utili in occasione di un suo futuro passaggio nei mesi o negli anni successivi. Ok, queste cose sono state scritte a proposito dei bluesman del Delta degli anni ’20 e ’30 del secolo scorso, ma riassumono quello che io sto cercando di fare ora. Io viaggio, suono per il gusto stesso di fare musica. Essa, influenzata dalla mia interpretazione personale, ha le sue radici nel Delta blues. Vive secondo le sue regole e queste regole sono riassunte nel migliore dei modi da una cosa che una volta gli disse un amico di Winnipeg: creatività, avventura e persone. Ci sono alcune cose che lui dice che non farà mai: apparire nei suoi video musicali! Portare il suo nome o la sua faccia su di una maglietta! Vendere la sua anima! Lui si diverte a far musica. Let the good times roll! Try to picture the archetypal image of a blues musician, outcast from society and persecuted by personal demons. A bluesman strumming his guitar with emphasis on both rhythm and a “bottleneck” slide. A typical street busker playing on any urban corner in front of the local barber-shop or restaurant. An artist with enough soul to establish a bond with his audience in whichever city he chooses, making friends with the local community, creating relationships which last until he passes through the city once more, be it a month or years later. Ok, these habits once applied to Delta Blues Musicians back in the 20ies and 30ies, last century - but they still sum up what Tim is doing nowadays. Traveling, playing for the sake of playing his blues, which has its roots deep in the Delta area with a touch of personal rhythm. Holehouse lives by his personal rules and those rules are best explained by something Tim’s friend from Winnipeg once quoted: Creativity, Adventure and People. Tim enjoys playing his music, so just let the good times roll! 50
