A TOUCH OF RHYTHM IS ALWAYS WELCOME AT HOME AND EVEN MORE SO IF IT’S JAZZ. “Come on babe, why don’t we paint the town, and all that jazz” is the first line of All That Jazz, the opening song of Chicago, Bob Fosse’s mythical musical. Inviting us to step out on the dance floor, the rhythm is infectious and arouses all the senses. Lladró turned its gaze on jazz dance to create one of the most energetic pieces in its catalogue. The sculpture is decorated with the most vibrant colors
in its palette: deep black, chic purple, sophisticated make-up and the reddish tone of the dancer’s hair that gives her such a bold look. But if there is one thing that characterizes this genre of dance, it is the dancers’ movements: the torso, legs, arms, hands, shoulders… the whole body conveys emotions in this dance which is made to be listened to with the senses and not the mind. DAISY, A NEW CONCEPT VASE TO CREATE FABULOUS HEADDRESSES. We all have an innate need to connect with Nature, which is why we like to surround ourselves with flowers and plants, something we are increasingly seeing in interior design. Lladrรณ is also joining this trend with the presentation of Daisy, a new concept vase. Daisy is the bust of a woman made in matte porcelain with touches of glaze that also doubles as a vase and takes on many different forms depending on the headdress we create for it. SPEAK TO ME OF ASIA
PIECES THAT AWAKEN A FASCINATION FOR THE WEALTH OF ASIAN CULTURES. According to legend, a beautiful Japanese goddess grew sad when her love was unrequited and the islands that make up the archipelago of the Rising Sun came from the tears she shed. Many, many years later, these very same islands were protected by samurai, the brave warrior-knights who stood guard over their coasts for many centuries. Lladrรณ has taken its inspiration from these warriors of pre-modern Japan to give life to a striking sculpture that captures the qualities of these protective guardians, known for maintaining a balance
between contention and force. Samurai warrior is made in gres, the ideal material for creating large sculptures in dark tones that require the application of enamels. When crystalizing in the kiln, this type of pigment takes on endless subtle nuances that, in addition, are different in each individual piece, making every sculpture unique and unrepeatable. The overall artistry of this piece is completed by the work of the Lladrรณ ornamentalist artists in the armor, the helmet and the scabbard, etched entirely by hand.

TRADITIONS IN PORCELAIN PASSED DOWN FROM PARENTS TO CHILDREN IN A MAGICAL LEGACY. The gift of a Hina Doll to a newborn baby girl in Japan is the best way of wishing her a prosperous, healthy and happy life. When spring arrives to the Land of the Rising Sun, these dolls are put on display on a platform called Hina ningyo at the entrance to homes to celebrate Hina Matsuri or Girls’ Day. Lladró has once again given life to the two main characters of the composition, the Emperor and the Empress in bright, colorful pieces with the attributes of the imperial court: the sword, the palette, the scepter, the crown and the kimo-
nos with their luxurious fabrics and multiple layers. Boys also have their own day in Japan, Tango no Sekku, on May 5th. On this day houses are decked out with figures of samurai with helmets and other traditional objects. Lladró pays tribute to this tradition by recreating in porcelain these Waka Musha or boy warriors, to which it is now adding a new limited edition version with intricate decoration that includes touches of platinum luster. This creation has great symbolic power, encouraging Japanese boys to grow up strong, courageous and steadfast.

LORD SHIVA, THE HINDU GOD OF MEDITATION AND ART. Ancient Indian epics tell the story of how Shiva drank a deadly poison in order to protect the world and all its living creatures, but his wife Parvarti saved his life by tying a snake around his throat to stop him from swallowing it. Shiva, the Hindu god of meditation and art, has now arrived in a limited edition of 720 units made in High Porcelain, the brand’s maximum artistic category. Fascinated by the wealth of Indian iconography, Lladró artists used bright colors on the god’s greyish blue skin, applying various different complex techniques, such as the golden luster that underscores Shiva’s majestic character. The decorative abundance can also be appreciated in the bracelets, the ribbons tying his hair and the flowers that adorn his
headdress and the garland, made entirely by hand, as in all Lladró creations. The god’s many attributes are defined and finely worked with a wealth of detail: the snake; the trident, a symbol of his power; the drum which marks the rhythm of the cosmos; the bands of Rudraksha, the sacred seed with medicinal powers; and the bun in his hair from which the river Ganges flows which the god intercepts as it falls to stop the world from being flooded with its torrential force. This piece invites calm and reflection and is completed with a specially shaped base that is prepared for the optional piece Lingam, a sacred symbol used to worship Shiva and to overcome any situation that impedes personal growth.

A CASCADE OF FAIRIES, A SHOWER OF LEAVES. PURE FANTASY. The most impressive chandeliers in the Lladró catalogue are introducing a new format with a 53 ¼” diam - 135 cm diameter, to add to the existing models with 23 ½” diam – 60 cm, 31 ½” diam – 80 cm and 78 ¾” diam - 200 cm. Both versions, the Niagara, with fairies and the Magic Forest with leaves include around 150 porcelain pieces and are based on the styles created by the German designer Bodo Sperlein for the brand using some of the core el-
ements of Lladró creations. The two versions are available in white, and the Niagara version is also available with the fairies decorated in golden luster. Each one of the fairies fluttering in the Niagara Chandelier and each one of the leaves in Magic Forest are handmade in porcelain. Pure creativity is combined with state-of-the-art fiber optic technology to create subtle points of light that bring porcelain to life.

OUR WILD SIDE
LLADRÓ RECREATES QUARTER HORSE IN HIGH PORCELAIN. One of the oldest American breeds, quarter horses are said to be able to ‘stop on a dime’ from a full gallop. Lladró has instilled life into a beautiful specimen of this strong, powerful animal in High Porcelain, the brand’s maximum artistic category. Thanks to the brand’s mastery and its long-standing tradition in the art of depicting horses—a key element in Lladró’s work—all the features of the quarter horse are captured to perfection: its well-proportioned head and neck, its broad strong body, its powerful muscles and the chestnut color common to this breed. Worth underscoring from an artistic viewpoint is the saddle, decorated in silver and gold tones
using the complex luster technique that requires the steady hand of Lladró’s best artists. Technically speaking, one of the biggest challenges in this kind of creation is to maintain the correct balance when passing through the kiln. In the firing process pieces undergo a reduction in size of around 15% due to water loss. Therefore, succeeding in keeping the right proportions of a piece is a great achievement, especially for a horse which is supported solely on its four slender legs. The end result is a worthy descendant of those horses accompanying the settlers who arrived in Virginia on their journey west, which would end up becoming the fastest in quarter mile races.

Lladró wanted to pay tribute in porcelain to this Albanian-born nun who dedicated her life to “the poorest of the poor” in India. And it has portrayed her as she was, with a tender loving gesture, her simple white sari with a blue border, the humble fisherman’s
sandals and the small cross she always wore. In her arms she is holding a little boy, one of the many children she saved from absolute misery. The great moral strength of this slight little woman will be officially recognized this fall with her canonization. Here we wished to display her with the piece Siblings, dedicated to one of the most affectionate bonds that exists in this world.
