Why Choose the WWL Eye Unit?

The WWL Eye Unit is now located in Boston House, Wigan (Wigan Health Centre).

The Unit, over two floors, is modern, clean and highly effective for the delivery of a wide range of eye services. The Unit is family friendly, as we provide paediatric, as well as adult services. Boston House is very easy to get to, being located close to Wigan Town Centre, and has free parking facilities. There is also a pharmacy on site.

A recent external review found the department to be “A highly efficient and effective unit�. The service provides a full range of general ophthalmic care including cataracts. There are specialist services for oculoplastics, children, squints, retinal disorders including age-related macula degeneration and glaucoma.

In addition the department provides the diabetic retinopathy screening program.

The dedicated and highly skilled Ophthalmology Team aim to provide the best possible care and produce excellent clinical outcomes, that are carefully audited.

Last year the department had over 65,000 visits for diagnosis, treatment and surgery.

How to Find Us Directions from the North • Leave the M6 at junction 27 (sign posted Wigan, Parbold, A5209), then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A5209 • At T-junction turn right onto the A5209 • At traffic signals turn right onto A49 • At roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A49 • Follow A49 (Wigan Road), pass the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and continue on through Wigan Centre • Continue past Wigan and Leigh College (on your right) and along Frog Lane. Go under the railway bridge and arrive at Wigan Health Centre (Boston House) on your right

Directions from the South • Leave the M6 at junction 25, exit onto A49 (Turn left at roundabout following A49) • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto B5238/Poolstock Ln. Continue to follow B5238. Cross mini roundabout • Turn left at traffic lights following B5238/Chapel Ln. Continue to follow Chapel Ln. • Continue to follow A49 / River Way • Turn left at traffic lights (Mercure Oak Hotel on right) onto Powell Street / Northway • Continue past Wigan and Leigh College (on your right) and along Frog Lane.
