What’s the 411? Atlanta: Christian Events

Christian Events This month offers up another great line up of gospel plays and events that are sure to inspire. LJEG is dedicated to opening minds and healing souls through words; musical and theatre. We believe that through every pain, joy comes in the form of lyrical expression.

Interview with Playwright, Learical Jonez Your recent production "A Thin Line" was a great play with well developed characters. Where do you get the ideas for your characters? I get the characters from my life as well as friends and family. Everything that I write about has happened before. I just so happen to put a "LJEG" spin to it. Based on the quality of your last production, it shows that you are not new to playwriting. How long have you been a playwright? I've been writing and performing poetry for about 8 years but I knew I wanted to get much deeper. My very first production was February 2011...I wrote it December 2010. Why should people come out and see “Sunday”?

Sunday

May 13th, 20th, 22nd 27th and 29th at 8 pm $10 Tickets King Plow Arts Center, Atlanta www.ljegroup.com "What happens in your family on the Lord's day?" With twists and turns, "Sunday" is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. Starring Candace Nicole, Bridgette Levi, Wiley Battle, MD the Great, Jessica Dancey and many more!!!

May 2012

Sunday tells everything that everyone is afraid to reveal about church and family. LJEG always speaks the truth through theatre...and this production will be no different. You will see that the characters portrayed will actually be someone in your immediate family or people you may deal with on a daily basis. In the African American church, we tend to sweep things under the rug because there is a certain persona that has to be kept...but who are we keeping it for when the next man’s or woman’s problems maybe far worst than yours.

Broken

Interview with Playwright, Shenise Blake

June 2nd at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm Georgia Tech Student Center Theater, Atlanta Tickets $15 in advance, Package Deal 2 for $25 http://brokentheplay.eventbrite.com Broken is a story of forgiveness, faith and facades. When the matriarch of the family passes away, the dynamics of the family change. Can the family survive the lies, hurt and pain or will they stay broken? The play focuses on four sisters and their not so traditional views of grief. The comedic nuances and powerful singing by this dynamic cast is sure to be a hit that you don’t want to miss. Special appearance by Jermel Howard from the films “The Brave One” and “Queen of Media”. About GIPSEE Production GIPSEE is an acronym that means “God’s Inspired Poetic Scribes Enlighten Everyone.” A percentage of GIPSEE Productions proceeds will go to Sophie’s Voice Foundation and the Fuller Center for Housing.

May 2012

What inspired you to write this play? After suffering the devastating loss of my mother, I poured my grief into writing the explosive play “Broken” which deals with the very real aftermath of grief’s impact on the family left behind after a sudden death. What advice would you offer to others on how to heal from the loss of a mother? Reflect on the good times you had with her, give yourself permission to grieve, don't dwell on what you didn't do and lean on God. Know that there is no 'right' way to grieve but with time, love and God, there is healing after you have been broken.

This play uses the lens of motherhood to address the concerns of delayed expressions of gratitude, appreciation, and love for those who have significantly impacted our lives. ‘Tears’ hopes to inspire its viewers to examine their own lives in order to express these emotions to a parent, sibling, relative, or friend. Some of the scenarios include: a woman who questions her motherhood when losing her child; a mother who adopts a child; a man who misses his mother’s funeral while incarcerated. “ Tears of A Rose” was formerly titled “Fading Flowers”.
