What’s the 411? Atlanta: Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month Pastor’s Response to Today’s Topics…

In honor of Women's Month, what do you think about the recent decision to allow women to serve in combat? The subject of women in combat is not new. The pros and cons; combined with generalities and specifics have Biblical and historical precedence (Deborah and Joan of Arc). To cut through the fat of the matter, regardless of gender, a soldier should be assigned duties commensurate to the needs of the military, their personal desires, the existing prerequisites, and their demonstrated ability to accomplish the mission. While the role of the battlefield changes from war to war and time to time, the role of the infantry doesn’t. Lifting the ban on women in the Army Infantry Corps is where the rubber meets the road and where the height of my military background lies. In combat there are two truths about the infantry as identified in Army Field Manual (FM 3-21-8): 1) Infantrymen who are moving are attacking; 2) Infantrymen who are not attacking are preparing to attack. Being an infantry soldier is like driving an automobile…a full time job of engaging or preparing to engage the enemy. While every soldier has an infantry background, not every soldier desires the Military Occupational Skill (MOS) of an infantryman. For those that do, they are consistently in a combat zone with a relatively unidentifiable enemy, without specific battlefield lines, and dominated and sustained by urban warfare. I salute them constantly! With that understood, whosoever will -- let him/her come. Rev. Paul Tucker is the Pastor of True Fasting Christian Ministries in Jacksonville, FL and a retired Sergeant Major of 30 years in the United States Army. His assignments included service as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant in Viet Nam in 1967 and 1968. He was also an Equal Opportunity Sergeant for training the Department of the Army Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, DC from 1976 to 1984 when the roles for women in today’s military were being defined.

emotional abuse. This will be a day that a multitude of women can come together and rejoice in the Lord for a few hours and forget their issues of the present and their past. My name is Leticia A. Morton and I am the founder of Angel of God Outreach. This is a ministry that God entrusted me with seven years ago. My goal with this ministry is to bring awareness to the ever growing epidemic of domestic violence. I have been a resident of Georgia all of my life and Georgia is one of the most rapidly growing states in the nation. With the increase of population comes an increase in crime and a vast majority of these crimes are brutal crimes against women. Georgia ranks number six in the nation for domestic violence and ranks first in the nation for teen dating violence. These statistics are outrageous. We have to put a stop to this ever increasing act of violence. The mission of Angel of god Outreach is to bring women together who have been victims or know someone who has been a victim of domestic violence, rape,
