What is a Club?

A club at Western Sydney University is a student-led organisation or society which helps students connect, engage, and find other, like-minded people to share fun activities, events, and build new interests and experiences with!

market, and present all parts of the vehicle. From mechatronics and robotics, to partnerships and social media, there’s space for everyone to thrive.

And there’s never been a better time to get involved!

Apex Motorsport will return to Western’s STEMFest during National Science Week 2025. This one-day showcase brings together student clubs for a day of practical STEM experiences, live demos, and networking, all centred on making science fun, inclusive, and inspiring. Later in the semester, the Apex team will host an industry networking night, where students can meet engineers, recruiters, and alumni working in robotics, automotive, aerospace, and other engineering industries.

Apex Motorsport is more than a club, it’s a launchpad for your future! Whether you’re chasing a STEM career or simply want to learn how to make cool things with great people, Apex Motorsport is for you.

THE CREATIVE SOCIETY

Uni life can be overwhelming, especially when you’re not sure where you belong. If you’ve ever wanted a creative, low-pressure and supportive space and where you can even be a little silly, The Creative Society (TCS) is for you!

WHY AND HOW THE CREATIVE SOCIETY WAS BORN

When I first enrolled at Western Sydney University (a very long time ago!), I found clubs to be an amazing way to connect with students beyond daunting lecture halls. But they could also feel intimidating - full of energy, crowds and busy events.

I wanted to build a space for students like me – creative but needing time to ease into friendships and socialising. That’s how TCS was born – as a safe, inclusive place where people with creative centred hobbies can explore or simply show up to connect.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or a shy first year student feeling lost at uni - you’re invited to try out until you feel comfortable!

BOB ROSS NIGHTS:

Our most popular event! We bring out the paints, follow along to a Bob Ross episode. Listen to Bob’s soothing voice and laugh through every happy little accident The vibe? Relaxing chaos.

CRAFT SESSIONS:

Into clay, leather making, cosplay, painting? Our regular in-person and online hangouts include craft kits and equipment focused on fun experimentation over perfection.

OPEN MIC NIGHT:

This event showcases our amazing and talented members. We’ve had every performance under the sun including monologues, poetry, stand-up, full D&D party performances, dancing, singing, and ukulele. It’s our club at its finest, and we also have pizza!

EXCURSIONS:

We take field trips to places like the Modern Art Gallery for a dose of touristy sense, creativity, photography opportunities, and of course, free lunch.

WHERE WE TRY TO DO IT ALL

TCS isn’t just about crafts, hobbies, or events. It’s about creating a space where people feel a little less alone at uni. Despite storage issues and event logistics, we’ve grown over two years into a kind, compassionate, and wonderfully creative community. TCS has always been a safe space with low pressure but high creativity.

All About Table-top Guild

TTG is a club focused on essentially any game played on a table, including board games, card games, and Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). Our weekly meetups at the Parramatta South Campus provides a fun, safe space away from the stress of class and assignments.

TTG maintains a vast collection of board games, alongside many other exciting events, on and off campus. Our club has a strong history as a queer inclusive space, with many queer students and executive team members feeling safe and welcomed.

Attending TTG events has always been one of my favourite activities of the week because they’re friendly, fun, and casual. Members can arrive and leave whenever they choose and are free to participate in whatever games we are playing, have a chat, or even relax in a corner!

Our members and executives have always been incredibly welcoming. We are always willing to explain games to newplayers, and introducing people to new games is really rewarding. The main reason I initially joined the club was the non-judgemental atmosphere. It gave me some distance from the stress of uni life.

WISA - A glimpse of Vietnam at WSU

In the first few weeks at Western Sydney University as an international student from Vietnam, I struggled with homesickness. I missed the familiar sounds of home, dinner with my parents, and casually speaking Vietnamese without having to think twice. At times, I questioned if I’d made the right decision.

That completely changed when I became a member of WVISA, the Western Vietnamese International Students Association. It’s truly one of the best decisions I’ve made during my time at uni.

WVISA’s main mission is to connect Vietnamese students at Western, while sharing our country’s rich culture with the wider student community. For over five years, the club has organised signature events like Tết (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), the Mid-Autumn Festival, and even National Independence Day, where we dress in traditional áo dài and recreate unique cultural activities. We’ve also run “The Amazing Race” - a campus-wide scavenger hunt that international students love. In 2024, WVISA’s Moon Festival event won Western’s ‘Best Club Event of the Year’ at the annual Student Leader’s Gala. Inspired by the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, the event recreated the legend of Cuội and Hằng Nga - two famous Vietnamese folk

parade. It was a proud moment for our team and created unforgettable memories for many Vietnamese students. For others, it was a warm introduction to our culture.

Here, every member treats WVISA as their second home. We share meals, celebrate traditions, lean on each other through hard times, and create memories that make university life feel a little less lonely. When you’re living far from home in a completely different country, finding a place where you’re seen, heard, and understood means everything.

And the best part? You don’t have to be Vietnamese to join! Whether you’re craving a connection, curious about Vietnamese culture, or just want some good food and warm company - WVISA welcomes you with open arms. Check us out on Instagram

BEYOND ARCHITECTURE

Broadening Students’ Experiences!

Social Gamers

Hello, my name is Sydney Chantamala, and I’m the Marketing Executive Officer for the Alliance of Social Gamers (ASG) at Western Sydney University. The Alliance of Social Gamers is a gaming club where individuals with a passion for gaming can join and participate in activities primarily through Discord.

We have a few events, such as Party Games Fridays and Social Deduction Saturdays, where members vote for their favourite games to play such as Jackbox, Codenames for PGF, and Among Us. We have Randomiser Wednesdays, where a game is randomly picked based on either executive suggestions or general discussion on our Discord server.

of architectural community which tests the limits of our potential, and challenges traditional architecture norms to explore new worlds of design, materials and concepts!

We foster a vibrant community of aspiring architects and design enthusiasts who are united by a shared passion for innovation, creativity, and driven ambition. We are committed to providing opportunities for our peers and changing the future of architecture through cooperation, mentorship,

lives through connection and creation!

Follow us on Instagram @b.eyondarchitecture and search ‘Beyond Architecture’ on WESTERNLife to join our group! Reach out to us via email at beyondarchitecture@student. westernsydney.edu.au

I’m very happy about my position as an ASG executive member. I enjoy promoting our club’s events both on and off campus. For example, we organise bowling and laser tag outings before exams, which bring participants great joy.

I joined as an Executive because I want to encourage people’s participation in social events and discover that university life is not just about studying and earning degrees; it’s a place where individuals with common interests come together.

ENVIRONMENT COLLECTIVE

The Environment Collective is made up of passionate environmental sustainability supporters, committed to education and best practice. 2025 has been one of our best years so far and there is so much more to come! The Collective is a great place to learn about sustainable individual and global action, including holding our university accountable where it could be better! Welcome Week 2025 was a great chance to get to know many of you and encourage you to form sustainable habits. Since then, we have hosted many events, including a ‘politics in the pub’ session with Greens Senator David Shoebridge, and an excellent bushwalk that gave many international students their first taste of the Aussie bush!

One of our biggest achievements so far has been the Parramatta South Vineyard creek transformation. On the 26th April, 2025, the Collective and other passionate volunteers removed the litter from its banks, unveiling shocking amounts of waste from years of neglect. Plastic from food and drinks made up most of the waste and served as a stark reminder to bring your

own containers and refuse single-use items whenever possible.

On the 27th May 2025 we collaborated with the Women’s Collective to host a morning tea and give away reusable period products. Access to reusable and nonplastic period products on campus is an economic win for our health and the environment and should be prioritised. Join the Environment Collective to keep up to date with our activities, get tips and tricks on eco-friendly living (we guarantee no greenwashing!), and empower you to act in our communities, campuses and cities.

You don’t have to be a bingereader to join Western Sydney University’s Book Club! Anyone who likes books or want to get into reading is more than welcome! We’d love you to join the awesome community we’ve created, both online and in-person.

Our Spring semester plans include a birdwatching walk, collaboration with the Festival of Action’s upcoming clothes swap, another creek cleanup, citrus picking and picnic, trivia (always popular, its staff versus students next time)!

Throughout the year, we run heaps of events to keep things fun. We host special group reads for highly anticipated books, followed by trivia, prizes, and friendly chats. Our most recent group read was Suzanne Collins’ novel ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’, which sparked plenty of great conversations (anyone else picture Haymitch as Woody Harrelson in a backwards propeller hat?). We run ‘Readings and Revision Rooms’ every Sunday during semester. These chill study sessions offer a quiet space, snacks, and good company to help you get in the academic zone. There’s even a Zoom option if you want to join remotely!

We care about our student community beyond books. Since Spring 2024 we’ve proudly run a weekly pantry at the Bankstown city campus in partnership with the University’s Food Security program. Students can drop in from 11 AM-1 PM every Friday during semester for free groceries! Online, we love chatting on Discord. From misunderstanding classic tropes to crying over an emotional book (‘Song of Achilles’ please have mercy), the Discord goes off.

If this sounds like your vibe, we’d love you to join Book Club! You can catch us on WESTERNLife or follow us on Instagram @wsubookclub
