CHARLES KOCH ARENA

• Wichita State put the finishing touches on a $25 million reconstruction and renovation plan just in time for the 2003 volleyball season. • Charles Koch Arena includes Devlin Court, the Taylor Concourse, the Preferred Health Systems Multi Purpose Center, Geist Student Services Building, Downing Academic Learning Center, a new weight room, a new athletic training complex and new locker rooms. • The Shockers hold a record of 159-34 in Charles Koch Arena since 2003.

ATHLETICS STUDENT CENTER • On Dec. 16, 2014, Koch Industries announced that it will contribute $4.5 million to help expand and renovate the facility named for Charles Koch in 2001 in recognition of his company’s $6 million gift to expand and improve what was then Henry Levitt Arena. Among improvements planned is a major expansion of the Student Athlete Success Center, which would house academic support services, nutrition services, and personal and career development for all student athletes.

TRADITION

• Wichita State has won 20 or more matches for 15-straight seasons. • Head Coach Chris Lamb is the all-time winningest coach at Wichita State with 413 victories. • WSU has made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and won seven Conference regularseason titles and four Tournament titles. • The Shockers have produced 46 all-conference players along with six conference Players-of-theYear, three conference Liberos-of-the-Year, six conference Newcomer/Freshmen-of-the-Year., two conference Defensive Players-of-the-Year. and two conference Setters of the Year.


NCAA TRADITION

• WSU has made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and has advanced to the second round seven times and to the Sweet 16 once. • The Shockers earned a national seed in 2017 and hosted the first and second rounds for the first time in school history. • The Shockers have an overall record of 8-11 in NCAA Tournament play. • WSU has made trips to the NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 11 years. • The Shockers have participated in NCAA Tournament play in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.


THE AMERICAN

• On April 7, 2017, Wichita State accepted an invitation to the American Athletic Conference. Commissioner Mike Aresco announced the addition of Wichita State to the American Athletic Conference beginning on July 1, 2017. The American’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept Wichita State as its newest member. • The Shockers officially joined The American on July 1, 2017 and conference members include the University of Central Florida, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Connecticut, East Carolina University, the University of Houston, the University of Memphis, Southern Methodist University, the University of South Florida, Temple University, Tulane University, University of Tulsa, the U.S. Naval Academy and Wichita State University. Navy is a football-only member and Wichita State is a basketball and Olympic sports-only member.


MVC CHAMPIONSHIPS • Wichita State was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference from 1992-2016. • The Shockers won six Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles and four Tournament titles. • WSU won six of the last 13 MVC regularseason titles with championships in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2015. • Wichita State hosted the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament four times. • The Shockers made 20 appearances in the MVC Tournament.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Zach Margolis • Wichita State's athletic department takes every step to provide student-athletes with the tools needed to be successful and strength and conditioning are vital to success in college athletics. The Shocker Strength and Conditioning Program, under the close supervision of Zach Margolis, is dedicated to developing every individual. • The Shockers moved into a new strength and conditioning facility in Charles Koch Arena in the fall of 2003. The new facility is over 7,000 square feet in size and offers more room for Margolis to conduct workouts.


ATHLETIC TRAINING

Wichita State’s student-athletes’ healthcare upon their arrival on campus is under the direction of five full-time certified athletic trainers and five certified graduate assistant athletic trainers. Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer, Dan Cahill, has worked at WSU since January of 2000 with a number of teams including baseball, women’s basketball, cheerleading, men’s and women’s cross country/track and field, men’s and women’s golf, softball, and volleyball. Dan is joined by four assistant athletic trainers including Kat Hollowell who works with the volleyball team. These certified athletic trainers provide prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of all injuries and illnesses for WSU’s student-athletes. Wichita State Athletic Training also works with the athletic training students from the WSU undergraduate athletic training education program. WSU athletic training also includes a staff of physicians who are a vital part of the student-athletes’ healthcare. They include team physicians Dr. Hossein Amirani, Dr. Doug Blackman, Dr. Brad Dart, Dr. John Fanning, Dr. Kyle Goerl, Dr. Ken Jansson, Dr. Brennen Lucas, Dr. Chris Moeller, Dr. Harry Morris, Dr. Andrew Porter, Dr. Dan Prohaska, Dr. Terra Reusser, and Dr. Ty Reusser.
