Wiener Stadtwerke Sustainability Report 2021

Foreword

Materiality analysis Regular, structured dialogue helps the Wiener Stadtwerke Group ensure that it is oriented towards the interests, expectations and values of its stake holders both now and into the future.

The materiality matrix, which was created in 2018 as part of a transdisciplinary process, flags up sustainability issues that are relevant to the Wiener Stadtwerke Group. It is at the forefront of all sustainability activities and is the foundation of sustainability reporting. We meet the expectations of our corporate responsibility by securing jobs through generous investments in strengthening the business location. Our investments in the expansion of the public transport network and in renew able energy play a key role in terms of the growing interest in making the business location environmentally friendly. pursues the goal of reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency in public infrastructure. We actively shape living spaces, infrastructure, supply and communications pathways for the metropolitan region and view the topic of See chapter 4 biodiversity as a core topic in our reporting. Our decisions are driven by our business ethics with strict compliance regulations and our marked social conscience, as we have always believed that sustainable business activity also includes creating ideal, appreciative and socially compatible conditions for our 15,000 employees. See chapter 5

The year ahead will also see the materiality matrix revised and, for instance, brought in line with current EU requirements.

Notes

2021 sustainability breakfast In November 2021, we were once again able to host our annual sustainability breakfast with representatives of our relevant stakeholders in person. The sustainability breakfast offers attendees an opportunity to network and serves as a forum for direct dialogue and exchanging information. The morning provided many insights, including into the future business model of the Wiener Stadtwerke Group as a partner for climate protection in hydrogen technology, one of the major global talking points in relation to climate neutrality. Hydrogen has a key role to play in our plans, particularly in the energy and mobility sectors. In addition, the core topics surrounding our setting of sustainability goals were debated and discussed. Particular emphasis was on the current and increasing relevance of the Wiener Stadtwerke Group’s role as a pioneer in the fight against climate change and driving the energy revolution.
