Progress here we are, celebrating thirty years in Ministry. Thirty years by God's grace and protection so we wouldn't be consumed by the enemies that surround us. All the glory belongs to God. Psalms 23:20 says, "We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield." 1. The Lord is our help The Hebrew translation of “LORD; He is our help” is. “Yehovah Ezer” or Jehovah Ezer which means Lord our. help. We should take full possession of this verse, That God is our Help.
Numbers have meaning in scriptures.
The meaning of 30 comes, in part, from it symbolizing dedication to a particular task or calling. Aaronic priests were initially dedicated to serving at thirty years of age (Numbers 4:3).
John the Baptist began his ministry at age 30.
Jesus began his public ministry at the age of 30.
God likely choose 30 because it was when a person reached both physical and mental maturity and could therefore handle major responsibilities.
It has been said that we live forward and learn backward. We stepped out by faith in Ministry 30 years ago and the knowledge came after to define our purpose and destiny. May I say Progress this is where we truly understand our service unto the Lord. Progress Church at 30 years is now able to handle God's kingdom agenda with maturity.
Our theme this year is, 'The Foundation of a Solid Church Built on the Solid Rock:' Lamentation 3: 22 – 23 "Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." Amen!
As shepherds over this house, we celebrate this milestone of 30 years and going on in Christ Jesus, standing on Colossians 1:28-29; that Jesus Christ, "He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me."
To God be All the glory!
With Love,
ApostleDr.LovelaceStJohn&PastorEstherSt.John
The vision of Progress Church is to EVANGELIZE the lost, DISCIPLE every believer, Equip its members for MINISTRY; Encourage each other through FELLOWSHIP, and Celebrate God through WORSHIP.
The mission of Progress Church is to fulfill the great commission of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through: Evangelizing, Discipling, Ministering, Fellowshipping and Worshipping.
Evangelism: Every day is an opportunity to share about our great God with everyone we meet.
Discipleship: Discipleship is not a program, but the process whereby we as Christians grow more in the Lord becoming more Christ-like and being eager to see others become disciples also.
Equipping: God has called you to serve in His body. Speak to one of the ministry leaders and start serving in the Ministry today.
Fellowship: Look out amongst you, befriend someone, encourage someone, edify someone. We regularly have fun fellowship sessions and hope you attend.
Worship: “For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit … ” Phil 3:3. So let us worship in our homes, our communities, and in the marketplace.
Welcome to our 30th Anniversary Service and Leaders’ Appreciation. Today we want to take a moment to look back, and give God thanks for what He has done. And, to look ahead with great anticipation of what He is going to do. This journey began on the second Sunday of March, 1994 at the corner of Kennedy Road and Progress Avenue.
Some of you were here when that journey began 30 years ago, others have moved on and many are still serving God, and other ministries in the city of Toronto. While we would have loved to see many remain amongst us, we know the lives of people are more mobile than in years past. And while it was hard to see them go, those who continue in the faith serving God and His work have given us great joy.
In 2004, we moved to Midland Avenue from our Progress Avenue beginning. Prior to moving to Midland our present leadership structure of Eldership was put in place to help us do the work of ministry. In 2006 our leaders came to us desiring to launch the Forward in Faith stewardship campaign in preparation for the purchase of a property in three years’ time. By the end of the second year in 2008 God answered our prayers, giving us a property at Kingston Road and Galloway Road.
At the time the Kingston Road/Galloway area seemed like the type of neighbourhood that would give you second thoughts about moving, because of the negative news that plagued the community. But to us, this place was our Goshen (the prepared place of the commanded blessings of our Lord). Since moving here we have seen the rejuvenation of the community, the steady decline of negative publicity, and new housing going up all around us. Through your giving we were able to complete the renovations of this property in 2014 ontime and below budget. Your prayers as a church body make a difference.
Progress Church is a voice that is sought after in this community. We have various ministries that are called upon to contribute their opinions, recommendations, and help, on matters affecting this surrounding district.
As our pastors have taught us, we are called to be a church with impact both locally and globally.
By no means have we impacted this community to the degree God has commissioned, but together we can reach one person, one family, until this area is filled with the glory of God. Your giving-and-going has touched lives globally. You’ve affected lives with your prayers. You have influenced the city of Toronto. With support and counsel, you’ve given money and moral support to many pastors and churches. Spreading beyond our borders, we continue to make a lasting impression on the nation of Canada with the leadership counsel given to churches through the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies. Through this ministry we’ve seen our direct impact on churches right here in the GTA, and in Halifax Nova Scotia. In addition, our partnering with, and fortification through Zadok Ministries International, have helped to strengthen churches globally.
Don’t despise the day of small beginnings. We may not be a mega-ministry at this time, but we are doing what we are called to do of our Lord. It is through your insight, your counsel, your sacrifices, and your love for God and His people, that much of our accomplishments have been achieved these thirty years. Many of you and your family have walked before us in integrity. Your lives have been an example to this church and beyond, and we are better because of you.
In whatever capacity you serve, we Progress Church say a big thank you. As a family, we truly believe that as we look ahead, look around, and look up, your integrity, your faithfulness, your determination, and your leadership, will inspire us to continue reaching the neighbourhood of Kingston Road and Galloway with the gospel of the Kingdom. We commit ourselves to walking in unity for the next chapter of the history of Progress Church. Great things are ahead of us.
Progress, thank you for your faithfulness, your giving, your sacrifice, and your service. Should the Lord tarry, we plan to make this a memorable thirtieth year.
