The Riptide
"Never take life for granted because in a blink of an eye everything could change." This is a quote I have learned to live by ever since Spring Break 2017, when I was close to losing my mom and my sister after a riptide pulled them out to sea at Hapuna Beach in Hawaii. Before I went to Hawaii I acted like I would always have the things I had and I never thought of them as things I was lucky to have. For example I thought I would always have friends and family who loved me and I never really thought that could ever change. I would even spend my weekends on my phone in my room instead of with my friends and family. Though since my experience in Hawaii I spend as much time as I can with the people I love because I now know that...show more content...
Kelsey, who was more of a dare devil than me when it came to water, wanted to keep going deeper where the waves were bigger though I was paranoid something would happen to me if I went deeper so I decided to stay close to the shore where I felt safer. My mom went with my sister since she knew it would be more dangerous where she was going. As they swam deeper, I continued to use my boogie board and just as I was about to catch a wave my mouth filled with water that was so salty it burned my throat. So I decided I was going to take a break and get a drink of water to get rid of the salty taste in my mouth. Though once I got to the sand and looked back to signal to my mom that I was going to go get water I couldn't find where she was so I looked up and down the shore to see if she came out of the water although the only thing I saw was people coming out of the water and crowding on to the beach. I raced out of the water to see what was happening and to hopefully find my mom and sister.
I immediately went to where our lounge chair was, thinking that at least one of them would be there waiting for me to come out of the water when I saw other people coming out of the water, though to my surprise no one was there. I started to panic but it didn't really occur to me that something bad could have happened to them. I began walking up and down the beach hoping to find them but all I saw was lifeguards riding out on wave runners and I heard other

In this paper one will learn the different parts of the brain and their functions. Although the brain isn't the largest organ of the human body it is the most complex and controlling organ. It is amazing how complicated the brain is. The brain controls every action within and out of your body. The brain has main areas that contain different areas that have specific functions. For instance the basal ganglia holds the lentiform and the caudate. The brain isn't just "THE BRAIN" it is actually a group of many parts. They help to inform the brain on the things going on with the human body. The brain is split in to two main parts, the left and the right hemisphere. The left hemisphere has about the same areas as the right hemisphere. The only...show more content...
The corpus callosum is a bundle of nerves that connects the two hemispheres. The area that passes and processes information concerning touch, pain, temperature, and pressure on skin is the thalamus. The limbic system controls your behavior and emotions. It is involved in emotions such as fear, rage, pleasure, and sorrow. In the prefrontal area of the frontal lobe emotional traits are controlled. In the temporal lobe expressed behavior is controlled. The parietal lobe discriminates sensory. The occipital lobe is where visual interpretation takes place. Pons is a crossroad for nerves going up to the cortex, to the cerebellum and then down the spinal cord. The cortex is the outer gray area where thinking takes place. The olfactory cortex receives senses from the nose that it then sorts out. The area that identifies what we see by working out movements, colors, and shapes is the visual cortex. The area that receives taste senses is called gustatory cortex. The area responsible for analyzing data, performing memory functions, learning new information, forming thoughts, and making decisions is the cerebral cortex. The motor cortex is involved in muscle movement. The cerebellum is vital when carrying out complicated, skilled movements. It is much like a mini brain. If before you read this paper you thought the brain was a "one man machine" I'm sure your opinion has changed after reading his paper. It is amazing how god has created the brain to have so many areas

After Germany i'm heading to France, where i'm going to the capital, Paris, to enjoy the feeling of love in the air. In Paris i'm hoping to see the Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame de Paris, and the Sainte Chapelle. Some interesting facts about this place are Paris was once a Roman City called "Lutetia." To get to the top of the Eiffel tower you would have to climb 1,665 steps, unless you take the elevator, woh! Also, there are at least three replicas of the Statue of Liberty in Paris, weird! Finally, there are 6,100 streets in Paris, wow!
