Foodinsecurityremainsoneofthemostpersistentandunder-discussedissuesimpactingour nation’sVeterans.Afteryearsofserviceandsacrifice,toomanyofourheroesstruggletoput fresh,nutritiousfoodonthetableProjectNewHope(PNH)recognizesthisinjusticeandis steppingupagaintoensurenoVeterangoeshungry.
ThisJuly,theVeterans’FarmersMarketismakingamuch-anticipatedreturntotheWorcesterVA OutpatientClinicat403BelmontStreet.Themarketwillofferfreefruitsandvegetablesto Veteransandtheirfamiliesonthe1stand3rdFridaysofeachmonth,from11:00AMto1:00PM.In addition,PNH’sWestfieldofficewillreceivefreshproducedeliveriesonthe1stand3rdMondaysof eachmonth,furtherexpandingaccesstohealthyfood.
Thisisn’tjustaboutfruitsandvegetables.It’saboutrestoringdignityandhealthtothosewho’ve givensomuch.Thesemarketsprovideacriticalsupplementtoexistingfoodassistanceefforts andensurethatVeteransandtheirlovedonesdon’thavetosacrificenutritionduetofinancial strain.
TheVeterans’FarmersMarketinitiativeisaboutequity,ensuringVeteranscannourishthemselves andtheirfamilieswithoutcompromise.PNHalsoworkstobuildconnectionswithVeteransand strengthenthefabricofourcommunities.
Sully’sFoodandBabyPantries:SupportingBeyondtheMarket
InadditiontotheFarmersMarket,ProjectNewHopecontinuesitsworkthroughSully’sFoodPantry andSully’sBabyPantry.Theseessentialprogramsoffer:
Weeklyfooddistributions,includingstaplesandfreshitems. Diapers,formula,babyfood,andhygieneproductsforinfantsandtoddlers
Ongoingsupportforlow-incomeandfood-insecureVeteransandMilitaryFamilies.
Thesepantriescatertoagrowingneed,especiallyamongVeteranswithyoungchildrenorliving onafixedincome.Formany,Sully’sPantryisn’tjustaservice,it’salifesaver.
Atitscore,ProjectNewHopeisaboutformingmeaningfulconnectionsbetweenVeteransandthe people,services,andresourcesthattrulybenefitthem.FoundedbydisabledAirForceVeteran WilliamH.Moore,PNHisaVeteran-lednonprofitwithamissiontosupportVeterans,service members,andtheirFamiliesthroughcompassionate,practicalservicesthatrestorehope. Whetherthroughfoodprograms,wellnessretreats,oradvocacy,everyinitiativeatPNHiscrafted withtheunderstandingthatone-size-fits-allsolutionsdon’tworkTheylisten,adapt,andbuild programsthatresponddirectlytothereal,livedexperiencesoftheVeterancommunity.

Wealsosawintergenerationalgivingatitsfinestwhen14-year-oldConnorLeblanc,alongside OfficerMike“Lombo”Lombardozzi,cleaneduproadsidecansinLeicester.Theircollectionwas upportcomesinallagesandfromallcorners. smarais,w onof ubgrantw Veteran theway.
Ourcalendarwasfilledwithmeaningfulgatheringsthatfosteredconnectionandawareness. OnemajorhighlightwastheDepartureCeremonyofthe182ndMedicalCompany(AS).Known asthe“WitchDoctors,”thishistoricunitisheadingtoPolandinsupportofOperationAtlantic ResolvePNHstoodproudlybesidethemattheirsend-off,reaffirmingourunwavering commitmenttoeverybranchandeverymission.
AnotherheartwarmingeventwastheEarthDayCleanupatVernonHillAmericanLegionPost 435,organizedbyCommanderBillMooreandDebbieErickson.Volunteersjoinedforcesto cleanthegroundsandsurroundingareas,turningthedayintobothaserviceprojectanda celebrationofcommunitypride.Thebefore-and-afterphotoswereatestamenttowhata motivatedgroupcanachieveinasingleday.
ThentherewasVOICE(VeteransOutreachIntoCommunityEngagement) apowerful collaborativemeetingattheAmericanLegionPost#266inGranby.Byunitingstate,federal, andnonprofitleaders,thisinitiativeishelpingtostreamlineservicesandgetcritical informationintothehandsofVeteranswhoneedit.PNHwasproudtohaverepresentativesat thetable.
AprilalsosawourVeterans’MindfulnessMeditationRetreatcometoa close.ThisuniqueexperienceallowedVeteranstostepawayfromthe demandsofdailylifeandreconnectwiththeirinnerselvesthrough meditation,silence,andreflection.Thefeedbackfromparticipantswas overwhelminglypositive,withmanycallingittransformative.These retreatsprovidespacetohealemotionallyandmentally;vitalsupport that’softenhardtofind.
