Dear W rite On Friends, Write On, Door County began as a dream among a group who saw a space in the artistic community for writers and readers. Over the past nine years, we have grown into a thriving writers residency program that has welcomed hundreds of writers from 23 states and four countries, a beautiful writing center, and almost 60 acres of woods and meadow.

We invite you to join us this year.

Over the next several months, we have more than 40 ways to engage and inspire you, to spark your creativity, and to help you find community among other readers and writers.

Whether you're an experienced writer or an absolute beginner, you'll find offerings here that will meet your needs. We continue to grow in all ways. Our third staff member, Sam, joined us this past year and his work on this catalog is a testament to the passion we all share to bring you a variety of excellent programs.

We are thrilled to present a new series of Master Classes in 2022. These events were popular and sought after in 2021, so we encourage you to register soon! Two are already full. For those who would like a less intensive experience, we invite you to join us at one of our three weekend conferences. You can register for just one day or for the full conference. We have an amazing array of talent to engage and inspire you at our Health and Healing conference (May), Washington Island Literary Festival (September) and Children's Literature conference (October). We hope you’ll consider making the trip to Door County for a one-of-a-kind writing experience.

After two challenging years for us all, writing and the arts can help heal, inspire, and create. The writing community of Door County is vibrant and welcoming; we would love to welcome you into the Write On family.

ON URGENCY: A PROSE MASTER CLASS

ABOUT THE MASTER CLASS What does it mean to write creative nonfiction and memoir in 2022? How to write out of our personal urgency while also asking questions about community, survival, isolation, and power—all that is wrong with the world and all we’d like to make better? How does it feel to be alive right now? We’ll think about those questions, and more. alongside all the matters of craft: voice, structure, focus, aboutness, sonics, description, polarity, openings, closings. We’ll look at some excerpts of outside work, but your writing will be our primary text. There will be time for exercises. Along the way we’ll work hard, take care of each other, and make sure that joy and seriousness share the same space. $700 Intermediate / Advanced Monday, April 25 - Friday, April 29 9 a.m. - Noon

CLASS DETAILS The class will be held in-person Monday through Friday, April 25 – 29, 9 a.m. – noon, at Write On, 4210 Juddville Road, Fish Creek.

Class size is limited to 12 participants.

Write On will adhere to current public health guidelines regarding health and safety of all participants.

Individual brief consultations with Paul will be scheduled during the week.

The week includes a reading with Paul and some social opportunities.

Tuition for the master class is $700.

Write On members receive a 10% discount.

Lan Samantha Chang, Nan Cohen, & Kyoko Mori A special event for Write On members, we present a reading and reception with acclaimed writers Lan Samantha Chang, Nan Cohen, and Kyoko Mori.

Visit with the writers, learn more about their writing processes, and enjoy the company of reading and writing lovers.

Lan Samantha Chang is the author of novels and short stories, including The Family Chao, published in February 2022

by W. W. Norton.

Nan Cohen directs the poetry programs at the Napa Valley Writers Conference and is the author of three poetry collections.

Kyoko Mori has written several critically acclaimed books of fiction and nonfiction.

FICTION MASTER CLASS

Lan Samantha Chang This workshop is designed for people who are somewhere in the often surprising process of writing a novel. We will create a constructive and supportive novel-writing community and explore key aspects of the form and process.

How does a novel differ from real life? What are the parts of a novel and what obstacles does each pose to the writer? What are some of the greatest pleasures and frustrations of writing a novel, and how are they specifically related to the nature of the form?

Participants will share a chapter of up to 6,000 words as well as a one-page synopsis.

OUR HISTORY Write On, Door County started in the spring of 2012 as a way to encourage people of all ages to share their stories.

In the spring of 2013, an anonymous gift of property provided the organization a place to call home, and to create a home for writers.

The organization began in fall of 2013, and in January 2014, the organization received its nonprofit status. The first writers in residence came in April of 2014.

Since then, we have hosted hundreds of writers from around the world through our residency program. Classes and workshops have been offered to all ages in every part of the county.
