As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will be best suited to meet their needs. There are many different opinions as top what the most effective or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is essential that we keep this in mind as we help the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students to try new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way.

I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and by doing so exclude the students who are gifted with other abilities that are equally important and useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined through a traditional four year college.
As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of the concepts they are taught. For myself this is especially notable in mathematical applications. As teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a stream of numbers and formulas that students memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget. By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future.
Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level. Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first choices of classes I would like to teach, but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I was considered a middle–average student. I only averaged a low C in grade school and middle school math. Why? I was bored with it. Doing long division in your head is stupid. So freshman algebra rolled around and I loved it. After two weeks in the class I was three and one half chapters ahead of the teacher. He would only assign the odd problems for homework, but I'd do them all. Geometry was even cooler. But thinking back, not one of the teachers even commended me for doing so well. My father noticed I was good at it, but I thought he had to tell me I was good; he was my father. The next year, my junior year, I started to become a more social person. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. My educational background began with me attending public school for about three years, then I went to catholic school. Middle school was the best part of my education. In middle school I was given the opportunity to express myself creatively through dance, drama, writing, and with my voice. I attended a school of arts for one year; I noticed some changes that I was not familiar with when I was at student at catholic school. While in catholic school we studied a curriculum that included science, math, language, and social studies, but religion was dominant over all the material. At the school of the arts, I studied the same materials but the religion was absent, instead we were offered creative classes such as dance, drama, band, and vocal chorus. Starting in Nana's Nuggets preschool, which had a lot of interactive learning, I began my first venture into organized education. This was a very warm environment, same as in my home, where caring and working with others was very important. I made a lot of friends in this school that I actually stayed with through all of high school. When this short stint was finished, I graduated onto Seward Elementary School, located in the same buildings as the Middle and High Schools, where I first learned that kissing a girl on the hand in kindergarten at story time wasn't a good idea. In the Seward Community Schools system, ones learns a lot about the natural world around them, and about Alaska in general, being as it is one of the worlds greatest natural resources. After first grade, there was a new building necessary, as the population of Seward, like any other place on earth, was growing. There have been far more good ones than bad ones. These teachers have a major impact on the students that they teach day in and day out. Each teacher and professor has his or her own teaching style. What works for one does not necessarily work for the other. On the other hand, each teaching style does not always work well with some individual students. It is the teacher who can adapt to these circumstances students who can really have a profound effect on their students. I had one the best professors I have ever met. His name was Dr. Hammond. He was a professor in the Political Science department. Dr. Hammond used many nontraditional teaching methods, but that was what made him so great.
There are many different teaching methods out there. Dr. Hammond's teaching method is something of a new method. Professor Hammond's classroom was very simple. There was no video equipment, there was no projector, and there was no computer. He simply had one small blackboard that he used sparingly. He believed that students learn best when there is an open discussion every class period on the subject material that was being studied any given day. His classroom was extremely informal. Students were allowed to sit wherever they wanted, eat, and drink whatever they wanted also. Dr. Hammond believed that students learned best when they felt the most comfortable.

In order to create an inclusive environment, the teacher should assure that all students feel included and understood. When students come from a different backgrounds, the teacher should learn about their cultures and integrate that knowledge into the learning environment. The teacher should also strive to foster acceptance and value in classroom diversity among students.
Resources
Students shouldn't suffer because they are unable to afford basic resources needed for school. If a parent is unable to provide the student with what they need, I would have available extra supplies including, notebooks, binders, and pens on hand for student use. Additionally, I think it's important to acknowledge that sometimes the resources students are lacking stretch beyond the walls of the classroom. The problem might be as simple as not getting breakfast in the morning, or as complicated as not having a place to live. Obviously, as teachers we probably have the ability to fix the first one (free school breakfast application help), but not the later. We can, however, be empathetic to a student's situation and treat them with understanding instead of frustration.

My family, culture, educational, professional experiences have all been positive. The different teachers that I have had; guided me into considering the teaching career for many reasons. First, my family has guided me, my mom and dad have always found the right schools for me. They have pushed me to do hard things that make me scared. They have had faith in the school's that I chose were the right choices, and they will grow on me. My cultural experience is also a factor of why I want to be a teacher. My schools have been centered on helping students who have learning differences, so I have always been open about having a learning difference to other people. My educational experience has been amazing. It has been positive for me because the schools I have gone to were safe places that I could be myself. The teachers at my schools made a significant impact on me starting at a young age. The professional experience has been limited but beneficial. The article begins by the author explaining that men have privilege over women. "Denials which amount to taboos surround the subject of advantages which men gain from women's disadvantages. These denials protect male privilege from being fully acknowledged, lessened or ended," (McIntosh, 1998. P. 1). Then the article proceeds to discuss how whites, whether they realize it or not, have a considerable advantage over other races. She lists twenty–six ways that whites have the upper hand. McIntosh explains that as a white person she had been sheltered from the privileges that she had. There is a black Ms. America and a Black Ms. America, yet the former Ms. America was black. There are sororities that are specifically for particular races yet regular sororities cannot discriminate on race but the race specific ones can. I feel that no matter what race you are you experience discrimination in your lifetime. Coming to Temple and living around Temple, I feel like the minority when I walk on the streets. I feel that it doesn't matter what color skin you are, sometimes you will have the upper hand and sometimes you will have the lower hand. That is just how life is.
As a teacher I am going to make sure all my children, no matter what race they are, receive equal amount of attention, knowledge, and opportunities within my classroom. I will do this by shaping the curriculum around a multicultural perspective. "Multicultural education, on the other hand, encourages a culturally responsive curriculum in which diversity is integrated throughout the courses activities and interactions in the classroom,"(Gollnick & Chinn, 2009, p. 72). I will not let my race overpower the way I write and deliver my lessons. I will use Race and Ethnicity within my curriculum to teach my students to be aware of all cultures and races so they aren't blinded by the dominant culture of America. Any child can succeed and do well no matter where they come from.
