An Argument Against Gun Control As long ago as 1789, the creators of the Constitution realized the importance of guns in American society. The Second Amendment states,"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep andbear Arms, shall not be infringed." Gun Control

The topic of gun control is a a very talked about and subjective topic and has many different opinions and various extremes. First off, gun control can mean anything from having background checks or waiting periods when buying guns to taking away guns completely. Most people agree that background checks are necessary to keep guns out of people with bad intentions hands because a gun itself is a very neutral object and can be used for any amount of good or bad as can any other object. However, it is much easier for a person with bad intent to hurt more people with a gun then say a stick or another neutral object. The danger of a weapon is completely up to the person in control of the weapon. The first argument of people in favor of gun control is, of course, If people don't have guns, they can't kill people (or as many people). This makes sense because most mass mass killings and murders are a result of a person with bad intent gaining possession of a gun. However, would a stricter gun policy really help? People against gun control think not. There are various subjective arguments but the facts are simple, the correlation between accessibility of guns and crime with guns, if any, is that the less accessible the guns are the higher the gun violence is. This is made very clear with studies from other countries who have very strict gun control policies. Which only brings us back to the idea that guns are just neutral objects and can only be controlled by the person in possession of the weapon.

One major problem that those against gun control have is that having guns is a right to every American Citizen listed in the Second Amendment. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" ("Second Amendment"). This is one of the major obstacles of those in a favor of gun control and a key point in the argument of those against gun control. This is argued subjectively by those in favor of gun control with saying that times have changed and guns are no longer needed in today's society. However, as long as the Second Amendment is in place, guns will be legal.

Although gun control laws are made to prevent violent outcomes, the influence which laws carry are the complete opposite to what one would think. Ever since the ratification of the Second Amendment, the debate on gun control has become a very heated topic. There is one side that believes that guns should be banned in order to stop any future tragedies from occurring. In the past twenty years, there has been an increase of major gun laws that have been able to prevent some tragedies and the wrongful sale of guns. The arguments posed in these debates vary widely concerning the possible solutions to solving the problem of violent crime due to the possession of firearms. This paper introduces three different views concerning gun control. The first illustrates the freedom to own firearms. Gun Control In discussion of gun control, one controversial belief has been that banning certain guns, ammo, and clips will reduce the amount of crime involving guns. On one hand, liberals argue that this will decrease the amount of crimes because there are less guns out there. On the other hand, conservatives contend that this is not true. These are innocent children and teachers that are being killed by lunatics carrying a gun. Adam Lanza was the shooter in the Sandy Hook shooting that killed twelve students, six school employees, and his mother. Adam had many untreated disorders such as anxiety, excessive–compulsive disorder, anorexia, and aspergers. This proves that if we had stronger background checks this may never have happened. The gun sellers simply don't care about who is buying their guns, all they care about is making money. Adam was also using an AR–15 which is an assault weapon that should be outlawed for civilians. James Holmes was responsible for the mass movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. This shooting killed 12 people and injured 70 others. Experts say the reason why James shot up the movie theater was because he had an untreated schizophrenia disorder. In these two incidences the killers were able to get guns, even though they were mentally ill. They were guilty of the crimes, but sometimes our Judicial System will find them innocent for reasons of insanity and may eventually be let back into society. The definition of gun control is "the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians." With the horrific events that have occurred lately in our country, I believe that the laws on gun control are not strict enough. There are only a handful of people who cannot possess a gun, leaving millions of other individuals with the ability to own a firearm. Almost anyone can buy a gun, but not just "anyone" should be allowed to have one. A gun is a very dangerous weapon that needs to be taken care of by a responsible person. The person behind the trigger must know exactly how to hold, use, and shoot a firearm. Many people have been killed or severely injured when encountering one of these deadly weapons. Gun control is no joke, our politicians need to unite and help our country become a safer, gun reduced place. We as a nation are tired of waking up and casually hearing about another mass shooting that could have been prevented.

According to Every Town Research, "On an average day 93 Americans are killed with guns." Also, "America's gun homicide rate is more than 25 times the average of other developed countries" If gun laws were stricter, these statistics would instantly decrease. Obviously, our country has a problem if our homicidal gun rate is that much higher than every other country. We need to consider other countries gun laws to see what they are doing, maybe that would help us decrease the death rate across America. America just suffered a huge loss in the Las Vegas shooting. 58 people dead and 500 injured. It is ridiculous how one man could take so many lives and then take his own life. Reported by CNN, "No one knows why Paddock morphed from a retired accountant to the deadliest mass shooter in modern US history." If he did not have access to the military style rifles that he owned, maybe none of this would have happened. Paddock was reported to be possessing 42 guns and an excessive amount of ammunition. How in the world was this man not questioned when he was buying a surplus amount of ammunition, along with those insanely powerful machines? No single person

Gun control, one of the most sensitive issues in America today; should we the people believe in gun control or should we discard it as futile. The American constitution states in the second amendment " A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed", and so why should there be a need to put regulations on gun ownership.
