PRACTICAL LEARNING

COME AS AN ENTHUSIASTIC NOVICE. BECOME A W E L L- P R E PA R E D PRACTITIONER. We have big-school facilities without big-school crowds or competition. You’ll be able to use labs and research facilities as an undergraduate, conducting hands-on experiments, designing prototypes, and programming animations.

Opportunities are available for you to partner with faculty and graduate students on wellfunded, high-level research projects. You’ll get to see how true innovators and solution-finders develop all kinds of things: reading devices for the visually impaired, algorithms that learn, and drones that refuel themselves.

LABS YOU’LL USE: Additive Manufacturing Lab: This lab houses state-of-the-art equipment to design and manufacture materials using 3D printing and high-resolution 3D scanning. You will be able to scan any existing part, redesign it with CAD and computational analysis software, and print it using our printers for metals, polymers, or electronics.

Immersive Visualization and Animation Theater: Students control virtual and augmented reality in this state-of-theart space. It includes head-mounted displays and tracking systems for fully immersive experiences. You will be able to work on enhanced data visualization and analysis, virtual experiments, and game development for training purposes.

Innopreneurship Laboratory: In this 8,000-square-foot maker space, your education will culminate with a major design challenge. You’ll test your knowledge, resourcefulness, and skills by devising a solution to a complex engineering problem within certain constraints.

“The most fun and gratifying part of my job was finding those pockets of good data, and being able to automate the content in a dashboard that everyone could then look at and splice the data they needed to do their jobs.”

With her academic success and family background, Kaitlyn Ellison of Piqua, Ohio, could have selected any number of colleges and career paths.

She was valedictorian of her high school class. Her father is an Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, running wire across the desert. Her mother works as a team leader for a dentist’s office. Her stepfather is a full-time farmer.

A Wright State professor visited her school to give a talk on mechanical and materials engineering.

Kaitlyn was intrigued—both by engineering and by Wright State.

She decided to apply.

Her excellent academic record won her a full scholarship that clinched her decision to attend the university.

Once she had settled in as an industrial and systems engineering student, Kaitlyn landed an internship with defense contractor L3Harris Technologies. A pioneer in space exploration, L3Harris is known for its technological and engineering expertise.

After earning her B.S. in 2021, Kaitlyn is now continuing on at Wright State to work toward her master’s degree.

And she’s received the Anthony J. Cacioppo, Ph.D., Memorial Scholarship to do so. This scholarship has special meaning to Kaitlyn because of all of the time she spent in the Cacioppo Lab, where engineering students collaborate, experiment, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

She knows it’s invaluable to have people to turn to for advice on how to survive and thrive in one’s chosen field. “The real learning is done on the job, and to get the job you need connections,” she says. “College is loaded with professors and peers who can help you with the connections. That is the biggest takeaway.”

Whether you like to play or cheer on the home team, Wright State competes in NCAA Division I for men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, cross country, and track and field—14 intercollegiate teams in all.

Our campus is designed as a circle, so getting lost here is hard to do.

ARTS We have one of the best performing arts programs in the country, so you’ll get to see plays, musicals, concerts, and dances

by Raider up-and-comers.

Our campus also houses a fine arts gallery and the Tom Hanks Center for Motion Pictures—yes, that Tom Hanks.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER If you come as a parent, then the child development center on campus supplies a safe and stimulating place for little ones to learn while you’re in class or lab.

The college has a variety of engineeringand technology-related clubs, like Engineers Without Borders and the Society of Women Engineers.

If you’re a new in-state student who completes your undergraduate degree in four years, we make you a promise: the cost of tuition, housing, and dining won’t change.

We recently redesigned our scholarship program to offer an increased number of awards that can reduce the cost of your education.

You can also count on this: Wright State’s tuition is among the lowest in Ohio for fouryear universities.

Just as we keep tuition costs low, we rank high in the economic mobility index.

This index looks at the cost of a four-year degree and compares that to postgraduate earnings. (You may sometimes hear this called return on investment.) Wright State is among the top 20 percent of universities and colleges in the country for economic mobility, and we’re #2 among public universities in Ohio.

Some scholarships are based on academic performance; some on financial need.

Award amounts vary, and most are renewable each year, as long as you continue to meet the stated criteria.
