CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT
LETTER FROM PRESIDENT
Eocene Environmental Group understands the responsibility we have as a company and as individuals to strive to protect and improve all ecosystems, and to make positive environmental, social and economic impacts in the communities we serve. As a company in the environmental services industry, we strive to reduce our environmental footprint and adopt eco-friendly practices, advocating for a greener future. A sustainable business is good business, not only for our employees but also for our clients and the public.
At Eocene, we’re a leader in innovative solutions and value services that align with our core mission and values. As a 100% employee-owned company, our employees are at the forefront of every decision we make, and our employees are the ones behind our success as a company.
Our business practices and operations have multi-generational impacts; we strive to minimize negative impacts while maximizing positive ones. In addition, Eocene has an environmental impact and sustainability policy that instructs our employees to be aware of any issues that may apply to their current contract. Given our vast geographical span, each region identifies potential environmental and cultural resources that may appear in their area, as well as appropriate actions to remediate potential problems.
In March 2024, through a strategic alignment of values and goals, four Wright Service Corp. entities joined and integrated into one, forming Eocene Environmental Group. This report will reflect all four of our newly developed divisions, that were once operating on their own in 2023. This report highlights the progress we have made, and will continue to make, regarding:
• Safety
• Employee Well-Being
• Environmental Sustainability
• Community Engagement

Combatting Emerald Ash Borer – Urban Forestry EAB Management Plan
The city of River Falls’ Urban Forestry Department has a mission to preserve and perpetuate one of the community’s most valuable natural resources and assets – its municipal forest of trees on public property. This includes trees on boulevards, parks and other city properties.
The city is home to a high population of ash trees, many of which are considered high value. They experienced their first identified emerald ash borer (EAB) case July 1, 2019. Ash tree mortality is near 100% within approximately 1-2 decades after EAB introduction, and tree decline and mortality becomes exponentially higher after approximately 5-7 years from identification in a specific location. River Falls needed a response plan, so we were brought in to conduct an assessment and develop the response plan, including a solution to the insect infestation and eminent loss of a significant portion of the tree population. Ten issues were uncovered that required action on, after surveying trees on public and private lands, trees in maintained and natural areas, tree removal and replacement options, communication and resources, and EAB treatment options.
We developed a response plan as a comprehensive assessment of the city’s ash trees, along with an evaluation of their levels of EAB infestation, overall health condition, and characterization of their growing sites. Following the assessment, we posed three elements as a solution to the infestation and eminent loss of a significant portion of the tree population, all with the goal to attack the pest early on. The response plan proposed a means to confront EAB on the community’s terms, rather than do nothing and let the insect continue devastating the tree population.
In total, 7.27 square miles were surveyed and 1,400 ash trees were assessed and inventoried. The response plan proposed the removal of 730 trees.

Cultivating Cultural Heritage with Archeology Services
Our environmental division maintains cultural resource (archaeological) groups in each of its regions. Typical projects include those for stand-alone archaeological work, National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and, in California, California Environmental Protection Act (CEQA) efforts supporting the larger Eocene team. In support of this work, we conduct historical and archaeological assessments (including National Register of Historic Places [NRHP] requirements) for Section 106, Section 110, and Section 404 compliance. Other tasks include tribal consultation, development of mitigation plans, historic preservation, and agency database assistance.
Within our service area, we typically help clients comply with regulations enforced by federal agencies. Our team maintains permits to conduct archaeological investigations under these federal agencies, as well as the various Tribal, state (especially land and highway departments), county, and municipal jurisdictions we frequently work with.
Field activities associated with archaeological investigations typically include intensive pedestrian inventories of proposed project areas; identification, recordation, and evaluation of archaeological sites; and the

Our staff has extensive experience in prehistoric, ethnohistoric, and historic cultures, as well as artifact and human osteology analysis and evaluating and mitigating visual impacts to historic landscapes. We have conducted hundreds of technical studies directed at helping clients comply with federal and state historic preservation regulations for a variety of project types, including long-haul fiber optic, utility and transmission lines, abandoned mine reclamation, transportation, forestry, fire reclamation and development.

Streamlining Operations for Wright Tree Service with FieldNote Software
In early 2023, the technology and innovation division (formerly Terra Spectrum Technologies) began a partnership with affiliate company Wright Tree Service (WTS) to implement FieldNote software across various contracts in the U.S.
FieldNote is our geospatial data collection software, which is trusted throughout the industry and used by a multitude of clients. By using FieldNote, WTS was able to expand on their planning capabilities while also adding timesheet and production reporting.
Both companies were able to collaborate on application enhancements in real time and complete testing before going live. Additionally, Power BI reporting was implemented to create a core set of pages to review data for accuracy and errors. Overall, this streamlined the payroll and billing process, moving a 10-hour process down to less than an hour.
With this partnership, both companies were able to grow digitally and improve customer satisfaction through supporting end users. Ease of sharing information also positively impacts and improves safety in the field. FieldNote helped move WTS from an era of paper and manual processes to digital tracking and reporting.

SAFETY
Safety is our number one value. Our employees are trained on a consistent basis to ensure best safe practices are in place and to identify and mitigate any potential risks or jobsite hazards. Internal protocols are routinely reviewed and updated by our risk and safety departments with the latest trainings and procedures to ensure our employees arrive home safely each and every night. Our employees follow the Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper motto, striving to maintain a zero-harm workplace.
INCIDENT RATE
Eocene tracks and reports all incidents. They are tracked by division with goals and milestones established for reduction. These incidents and near misses are reviewed during training sessions to raise awareness and identify preventative actions to continually improve health and safety initiatives.
DART Rate
Days Away/Restricted or Transferred Rate (DART) represents OSHA injuries or illness that results in days away from work, restricted duty, or transfer of duties. This is because only the more severe OSHA recordable injuries and illnesses are included in the DART rate.
Incidents are often broken down into the following categories:
• Property Damage
• Auto Liability
• General Liability
• First Aid
• Lost Time
• Restricted Duty
• Medical
• Outage
Our 2023 DART Rate was 0.58 for the forestry and utility division and 0.0 for our other divisions.
In response to growing industry recognition of the limitations of the OSHArequired metrics such as Incident Rate and DART Rate, the risk compliance team has begun tracking incidents based on the ASTM E2920 standard. This standard serves to identify incidents with more significant outcomes, allowing focus and resources to be directed more strategically.

SAFETY TRAINING
With the recent transition to Eocene, safety programming is being aligned across the four divisions to create consistency for employees and reinforce the importance of safety as a fundamental value of Eocene. All employees go through safety training upon hiring. Additional training is mandated for employees working in particular regions or projects to ensure employees are aware of how to navigate site-specific safety hazards. Eocene encourages our employees to maintain their first aid, CPR and AED certifications.
FORESTRY & UTILITY DIVISION
Every new employee undergoes a safety onboarding training program during their first several weeks of work. Annually thereafter, training topics are discussed for at least 30 minutes each week as a safety refresh for all employees. There are also 4-hour-long safety trainings for all staff conducted quarterly. Topics include vehicle and equipment safety, ergonomics, injury and illness prevention, first aid and CPR training, and environmental hazard protection. Weather conditions such as natural disaster preparedness, wildfire safety and heat illness. Wildlife awareness training for hazardous plants, insect bites, canines and reptiles is also included. In 2023, the forestry and utility division safety task force developed and delivered a 6-part training series covering pertinent information from the ANSI Z133 American National Standard for Arboricultural Operations – Safety Requirements.
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION
New and existing employees go through extensive safety training. Eocene’s safety training is set up in a category system such that Category 1 includes basic office related safety for all personnel, Category 2 includes basic field related safety for field personnel, and Category 3 includes training(s) provided as an as needed basis for specific or less common activities. All field staff are certified in first aid, CPR, AED and bloodborne pathogen training from the Red Cross. Currently, 130 employees are first aid, CPR and AED certified. The safety team publishes a health and safety newsletter twice annually that chronicles past and upcoming safety events, other notable safety information and recognition of employees for outstanding safety actions or compliance. The environmental division’s safety recognition program recognizes two to four employees each month for outstanding safety actions or compliance and one to two employees for exceptional fleet safety. These employees are awarded a gift card and receive recognition in the newsletter.
VEHICLE SAFETY
Geotab & Lytx
The Eocene team employs Geotab, a fleet tracking/GPS platform that delivers tailored fleet management solutions to meet our client’s requirements for safety, productivity and efficiency. Geotab evaluates driver safety regarding seatbelts, speeding, idle time, harsh braking and cornering, as well as backing up. Lytx is a dash camera solution Eocene uses that grants managers an extra set of eyes within the cab of a vehicle. A set of two lenses capture internal and external (forward facing) footage that is reviewed and coached to improve driver safety and identify opportunities within the fleet to correct and improve unsafe behavior, as well as recognize drivers when exemplary behavior is exhibited.
Geotab Audible Alerts
a safety supervisor to the team. With the employee survey helping to provide important feedback, Eocene will continue to make improvements that protect our employees and fortify our safety culture.
Safety Steward Award
At Eocene, we like to say safety doesn’t happen by accident. In fact, it’s our safety slogan. It reminds us that we must take action and helps keep us accountable for our own safety and that of others, or as we call it – being a safety steward. Safety is our top value, and it requires a strong commitment, continuous learning, and participation from every member of the team to truly build a culture of safety. The forestry and utility division is proud to recognize 231 individuals for ending 2023 incident-free. This is a 25% increase in recipients from 2022. Recipients received a certificate and safety steward patch to honor their outstanding achievement.
Good Catch/Near-Miss
Our good catch/near-miss form is used by forestry and utility division employees to report everything from close calls to acts of safety that go above and beyond. In 2023, there were 218 submissions through the program, up 20% from 2022. Every event submitted was discussed during the all-hands weekly safety meeting to share lessons learned, raise team awareness, and recognize employees for being their brother’s and sister’s keepers.
In April 2023, Eocene activated what are known as audible alerts using the Geotab system. This update enabled the device to provide a beep sound audible to the driver anytime they engaged in a safety exception, such as speeding. Within the first two weeks of activating the audible alerts harsh cornering events reduced by 59%, harsh braking events reduced by 31%, and speeding events reduced by 51% across the forestry and utility division fleet.
Employee Survey Safety Statistics
We want to make sure we are doing everything in our power to provide a zero-harm work environment where our employees have all the necessary equipment and training to work safely. The forestry and utility division conducted an employee survey, and questions regarding safety were some of the highest scorings. As our number one value, Eocene will not cut corners on safety or take unnecessary risks, and we know that each one of our employees feels the same way. We expanded the health and safety department, first by putting a safety manager in place, and have since added
Safe Driver of the Month
The forestry and utility division safe driver of the month recognizes employees who demonstrated the highest level of safety and awareness when behind the wheel. The safe driver of the month is awarded to the driver that traveled the greatest number of miles throughout the month with the best overall driver analytics and safety scorecard. Each awardee had their picture taken for the forestry and utility monthly update. The driver was also recognized during the all-hands safety call at the end of the month.

CYBER SECURITY TRAINING
The information technology (IT) department is dedicated to cyber security and business continuity. Over the past five years, the information security team has been tasked with improving our security posture and executing strategic security roadmaps, updated annually; by doing so, this maintains and strengthens our company’s ability to protect company and client data. The team conducts an annual comprehensive security assessment in tandem with monthly Rapid7 vulnerability scans and remediates identified issues. Our SIEM platform, AlienVault, monitored 24/7/365 by ProCircular, is utilized to help improve our detection and prevention of attacks on our company’s equipment year-round.
On a monthly cadence, employees undergo training to spot ‘phishing’ scams and other malicious emails or attacks through our security awareness program. These fraudulent requests are sophisticated and can use known company contacts to lure others into sending funds to illegitimate recipients or compromise confidential data and information.
On a monthly basis, employees are tested internally and if the employee fails, they are required to go through additional training and, in some cases meet, with human resources (HR) and IT for performance improvement. As scams are ever-changing, training and tips are provided to arm our employees with the knowledge to be a digital Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper and ensure we protect our family of companies and their employees.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Conducted a tabletop exercise to prepare for any security emergency
• Conducted annual full environment penetration testing to ensure continued improvement

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMING
Forestry & Utility
The forestry and utility division is continually looking to enhance our workplace culture in a way that reflects our core values, particularly the core value of family. It can be difficult to cultivate and maintain a family feel with employees working remotely across North America. In recent years, the forestry & utility division has been leveraging Microsoft Teams to increase the ability of team members to collaborate, network and engage. In 2023, one of the channels with the highest engagement was
Eocene’s environmental division has extensive employee engagement programming to keep in-office, remote and field staff engaged. Their employee activity team meets once a month to brainstorm ideas for the coming months. Selected activities over the past year include lunch, snacks like ice cream day, national pet day, national wildlife day, national hug a tree day and making collages with staff photos. The division’s employee hub and feel-good forum is where employee activity team information is posted for employees, which allows employees to interact with each other’s posts.
In addition to the work the employee activity team plans, division leader Christy Holmes publishes a monthly newsletter that recognizes an outstanding employee for their hard work and dedication. The employee is awarded a day off work as a reward. Employees can nominate their peers for this award through the recognition portal.
Technology & Innovation
This year, the technology and innovation division continued a program which covers membership costs to an organization of each employee’s choosing. Employees selected a wide range of nonprofit organizations. A common theme across selected organizations was the connection to nature, such as Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and the Arbor Day Foundation.
Sustainability
2023 was a year of new employee engagement programming for the sustainability division. With a mostly remote team, it isn’t often all employees are together in one place at one time. This past winter, sustainability staff traveled from across the country to our headquarters in Des Moines for a full day of training and development.

The program consists of a two-day workshop at the corporate office in West Des Moines, Iowa. Women in our family of companies are nominated by leaders or colleagues to participate. The committee selects participants after thoroughly reviewing nominations based on criteria including training opportunities and strength of nomination. Those who were not selected for the workshop in a previous year can be nominated in the future.
The team completed trainings in personal development, True Colors, dining etiquette, and more. We wrapped up the day with a fun team bonding outing at Smash Park. Keeping the momentum going, the sustainability division announced two new committees to support employee engagement. The community outreach committee was created as a central point of contact for guidance and approval of charitable contributions and company-wide volunteer opportunities. The committee develops a yearly strategy and budget for charitable giving, reviews and approves contribution requests, coordinates volunteer activities, and records outreach metrics. With a more internal focus, the employee recognition committee seeks to highlight and appreciate the extraordinary work done by our employees by sharing employee stories, encouraging team communication, and sponsoring culture building events.
Translation Committee
The translation committee is dedicated to minimizing language barriers to promote effective communication within our organization. By procuring professional translations via our trusted vendor, our core mission is to ensure that language serves as a bridge rather than a barrier by facilitating knowledge sharing, collaboration and mutual understanding among individuals with diverse linguistic backgrounds.
We primarily provide Spanish and French-Canadian translations but offer several others to meet the needs of our diverse team. Employees can request translations through our shared services department liaison for items such as and not limited to internal communications, recruitment advertisements, procedures/training materials, HR materials, public-facing or external use documents, e-learning content, video and closed captioning/ subtitles, and websites.
In 2023, our translation committee achieved a significant milestone by successfully processing over 100,000 words across various departments and initiatives.
Women of Wright
The Women of Wright program began in 2021 to increase hiring and retaining a diverse workforce by empowering, developing and supporting employees at all levels to reach their fullest potential and equip them with the tools to excel as leaders in our industry.
The 2023 workshop focused around three main themes: connect, educate and empower. Each theme incorporated learning opportunities, exchange of ideas and application of new skills. Women left the workshop with tools to continue developing themselves personally and professionally.
From Eocene, 10 women participated in the program.
Ethical Standards
Eocene’s employee handbook outlines several employment policies, procedures and practices. This contains equal opportunity employment policies, a code of conduct policy, business ethics statement, a harassment policy and a protection against retaliation policy. Management and human resources staff have an open-door policy as well as programming that allows employees to report incidents and provide suggestions to improve the workplace.
COMPANY WIDE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMING
Education & Development

Some sample elective training topics include management, leadership, customer service, productivity, Microsoft training and much more. In addition, new employees are assigned training in WSCU that includes:
• Harassment and discrimination
• Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
• True Colors
• Customer service
• System training
• Retirement savings and enrolling in a 401(k) or Roth
• Accessing the company clothing and apparel store

This improves employee self-awareness and conflict resolution. We have three employees who are certified True Colors practitioners and are able to provide department workshops to teams who request it.
Individual Development
The training and development department offers our employees numerous individual development options. These can include team workshops, individual coaching, and mentoring depending on the need.
LEAD Program
LEAD provides opportunities that enable leaders to develop high-performing teams and grow themselves toward the next level of leadership.
The LEAD Program content focuses on increasing leadership competency in the following areas:
• Leading self
• Leading others
• Leading change
• Business knowledge
• Business results
The program is held at our company headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa. A few of the highlights include:
• Participating in a professional association
• Shadowing a person in a different role
• Participating in the LEAD Mentor Program
• Participating in online learning opportunities
• Presenting a capstone project

Forestry & Utility Division Leadership Academy
Each year the forestry and utility division hosts a week-long leadership academy for a group of division employees. The employees selected are nominated as potential future leaders in our organization. During leadership academy, attendees are provided leadership training by management, opportunities to network with teammates from across North America, visit the corporate office, meet support staff, as well as gain skills to enhance their careers.
Our 2023 cohort of leadership academy included 22 forestry and utility division employees that traveled from across the United States and Canadas. The 2023 cohort brings the Leadership Academy alumni count to 147 since the program’s inception in 2014.
HEALTH & WELLNESS

Benefits
Eocene provides both full-time and part-time positions with a benefits package that far exceeds the industry standard. Employees receive comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, wellness incentive programs, life insurance, disability, vacation and sick time, bereavement, identity theft protection, traditional pre-tax and Roth 401(k) retirement plan options, and employees are part of profit sharing through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
Health Insurance
Eocene offers medical with prescription coverage, dental and vision insurance to all eligible non-union employees. Plans are offered either as individual or family. Family plans are not limited to the number of dependents. The company pays a portion of these insurance fees to provide competitive premium rates for employee insurance packages.
There were 459 Eocene employees enrolled in health insurance in 2023.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a professional and confidential, short-term counseling service available to the employee and their immediate family. This is a company paid benefit and offered to the employee at no cost. Immediate telephone access to a counselor is available 24/7. Resources include up to three sessions for in-person appointments per separate issue per year, legal services, financial consultation, and eldercare resources.
Those in need can visit a doctor on their smartphone, tablet or computer from virtually anywhere and offered at no cost. Doctor on Demand offers no cost, virtual doctor visits with board-certified doctors who can treat most common medical conditions and prescribe medication.
A total of 60 Eocene employees reached milestones this year with five, 10, 15, 20, and 30 years of service.
Employee Ownership
Eocene is proud to be an employee-owned company. Through shared ownership, our ESOP helps promote a positive, unique organizational culture and supports company success. The ESOP is also designed to assist our employees with their retirement and provide them with a financial stake in the company. For our clients and partners, we are empowered to provide exceptional service and innovative solutions.
The ESOP enables employees to directly affect profitability and value and see the results. The ESOP has also allowed the company to protect jobs and support the communities we work in.
Only non-union employees who are at least 18 years of age, worked for the company for one year totaling at least 1,000 hours are eligible to enter the plan. Employees are automatically enrolled in the ESOP after meeting the qualifications on April 1 or October 1, following their 1-year anniversary date with the company.
LONGEVITY
Retirement
Eocene offers a comprehensive 401(k) retirement savings plan with the same eligibility requirements and entry dates as the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
Eocene has a Safe Harbor Match Program to the 401(K) offering, matching 100% of the first 3%, plus an additional 50% of the next 2% employees would contribute to their retirement savings. The matching funds are placed in the ESOP account. Meaning, employees should contribute at least 5% annually to receive the full company match. These company-matched contributions are 100% vested.
The automatic enrollment program is an automatic 3% pre-tax 401(k) enrollment process for all eligible employees which increases contributions from salary pay by 1% each year until 10% is reached with an opt-out available. This was enacted to ensure employees were taking steps for their financial security in the future.

EMPLOYEE WELL-BEING GOALS
Education & Development: Roll-out Project OneSource Program via Workday for efficient integration of company data storage and processing, employee records management and improvement of employee procedures which will include the reduction of paper.
Education & Development: Increase engagement in online learning by continuing to offer courses chosen through survey feedback, employee recommendations and leader input. Continue to package courses into manageable sizes through programming like “Learn in Less” and “Five-Minute Fridays.”
Education & Development: Gather data that will inform a sustainable leadership development strategy that supports the growth of our family of companies.
Diversity & Inclusion: Analyze employee gender and race/ethnicity information to establish benchmarks and goals for annual diversity growth.
Employee Well-being: Continue to provide our employees with more benefits education through regular newsletters, plan enrollment resources and new hire summaries.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
As an environmental services company, we strive to protect and preserve the ecosystems where we live and work. The process of cataloging and quantifying key impact areas to support the development of greenhouse gas accounting was started in 2022 (prior to our integration to Eocene). This includes an overview of electricity, fuel, waste and water. We are also committed to pursuing efficiency within our fleet. Geotab and Lytx software track driver safety and fuel and maintenance metrics, supporting improved resource use. Our work also allows us to support the sustainability strategies of our clients, providing top of line management while remaining cognizant of environmental impact.
PROJECT IMPACT
Forestry & Utility
Through the UVM inspection and auditing service offering, the forestry and utility division currently works across 40 states and two Canadian provinces. The division provides operational support to 43 utility clients, including 23 investor-owned utilities, seven cooperative utilities, three federal/provincial utilities, and two public utilities.
In 2023, our research and development team provided operational and strategic consulting services to five utilities in five U.S. states. Additionally, they conducted urban forest inventory projects for six municipalities in 2023. One such project included a comprehensive community forest management plan resulting from a public tree inventory. Our urban forestry team developed recommendations based on community engagement, the inventory of existing trees and potential planting locations. Management actions were prioritized for near-term operations and longer-term activities to ensure the plan was actionable while supporting client desired outcomes.
In 2023, the forestry and utility division inventoried over one million trees through projects across all our service lines.
Environmental
Eocene’s environmental division was chosen by the Washington County Water Conservancy District to conduct environmental compliance activities for the Red Cliffs/Warner Valley Land Exchange Project, situated in St. George, Utah. Pending approval, the proposed project would exchange federal land in the Warner Valley area for non-federal land within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area and Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.
The Reserve, established in 1996, plays a crucial role in safeguarding a vast and functional habitat for the Mojave Desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) amid the rapidly developing St. George metropolitan area. Successful completion of the project would reduce the risk of habitat loss through development and contribute to the consolidation of federal holdings of designated critical habitat for the Mojave Desert tortoise within the Reserve.
The team is preparing the project’s Environmental Assessment, ensuring compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act’s requirements. We are also facilitating the project’s adherence to Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and is under contract to complete Phase I ESAs for each parcel.
Technology & Innovation
The technology and innovation division’s foundational software, FieldNote, has expanded its functionality to include a new urban forestry and tree inventory module. The tree inventory module provides clients with the ability to map tree locations and provides pre-built configurable dashboards that aggregate valuable analytics. As clients continue to utilize the software, they can manipulate the different metrics captured to meet their specific needs.
The tree inventory module is especially beneficial for clients working in urban forestry due to the complexity of tracking different tree metrics across a wide range of locations within cities and towns.
Sustainability
The sustainability division’s conservation engineering and environmental compliance team provides survey, planning and conservation engineering technical assistance to farmers and ranchers. In 2023, this included the creation of new and updated nutrient management plans, which allowed for the spread of livestock manure across thousands of acres while reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. The team worked on new and existing wetland habitat developments across a variety of regions. Other conservation practice work included planning and initiation of saturated buffers, biodigestors, drainage tile outlets, terraces and diversions. These projects help to improve water quality and nutrient management, supporting environmental and performance outcomes for our clients.

RESOURCE USE
Fleet & Equipment
Eocene has had the opportunity to be front and center to several exciting things with Geotab. With the support and guidance of our Geotab reseller, Gridline, the company was one of the first in the world to see and experience, pilot and deploy a Geotab/Lytx integration that allows the Lytx user interface to be visible and interactive within Geotab.
Eocene was selected as a participant for the Geotab Signature Advisory Group. This group meets quarterly to “take a peek under the hood” of Geotab roadmap initiatives and strategies, with opportunities to contribute and collaborate with their product and service developers, other business partners, and Geotab leadership as well as other Geotab clients around the world.
The mobility program team is responsible for these relationships. As a team they collaborate with users to conceptualize capabilities, gather report requests, and complete troubleshooting. They quarterback conversations with subject matter experts for system enhancements, product and service recommendations, along with ensuring daily tasks and usual business within those systems can be completed unimpeded.
Eocene’s environmental division has fully deployed the Geotab and Lytx capabilities as well. With a fleet of roughly 50 assets, the environmental division has already begun leveraging the system capabilities to understand operational trends, engage drivers and identify opportunities for enhancement, or where additional inquiries or improvements can be made.
Fuel Usage
Geotab together with WEX (a fuel card that helps companies save costs with automated fuel expense tracking, employee spending controls, purchase alerts, and exclusive discounts) allows for the tracking of fuel efficiency. Some fuel is provided via bulk fueling or client fueled, which is not included in annual reporting. Bulk fuel, when available, is an efficient way to prepare the fleet without spending excess labor time and resources to travel to the nearest fueling station.
The 633 vehicles equipped with Geotab technology utilized by Eocene’s fleet traveled 10,452,869 miles in 2023. Unproductive idle time is currently being tracked along with miles per gallon efficiency.
Recycling
Eocene is committed to reducing our environmental footprint when possible. A key component of our sustainability programming includes our IT Department. The IT Department works to prioritize redeployment of technology over purchasing additional devices. Once the electronics are no longer functioning, our team works with an e-cycler to properly recycle and dispose of the various components of the electronics.
We are often the primary or direct link to Eocene for our vendor partners and provide feedback and guidance on how our companies utilize their products and services and collaborate to provide considerations for them on any potential development needs that may exist or present themselves.”

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
Fuel Use: Evaluate Geotab and Gridline reporting to improve efficiency through reduction of unproductive idle time.
Fuel Use: Add an electric vehicle to the company fleet.
GHG Accounting: Conduct Scope 3 screening and develop processes for related data collection by emissions category.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Eocene actively sponsors activities that benefit our employees and add value to the communities where we live and work. Through monetary and in-kind donations such as labor and education, we’re able to support various causes and organizations that align with our values. Over the years, as our company has grown, so has our community outreach. Current giving programs span across the United States. We take pride in building and developing relationships with our employees, clients and communities.
CONTRIBUTIONS
In 2023, Eocene gave $29,000 in sponsorships and contributions to nonprofits across the communities where our employees live and work. We also volunteered at and sponsored numerous events. The following are some highlights.
Tour des Trees
The annual Tour des Trees bike tour is a proud tradition that multiple Eocene employees participate in each year. In 2023, the ride started in Reno, Nevada, on Tuesday, September 26 and ended on Monday, October 2, in Half Moon Bay, California.
Among the six riders that participated, Eocene raised $20,005 for the TREE Fund. Money raised by TREE Fund goes towards their continued research and education programs which shape industry best practices, improve workforce safety and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our communities.
Representing the forestry and utility division were vice president Matthew Searels, director of research and development Randall H. Miller, regional supervisor Michelle Lejins, consulting utility forester (CUF) Karen Jenkins and lead CUF Tom Ordway. Technology consultant Nibo Urzua also joined the ride from the technology and innovation division. We are proud to have dedicated employees committed to giving back to causes that benefit our industry.

Arbor Day
Eocene annually supports Arbor Day with volunteer hours across the country planting trees and providing education on the care and importance of sustainability and protecting our planet’s natural resources. The forestry and utility division makes an annual donation to support the Arbor Day Foundation’s annual initiative. In 2023, that donation planted 500 trees in a forest of need in their honor.
Food Pantry Volunteerism
Several members of the sustainability division team volunteered with a food pantry network to build shelving for their warehouse. The network noted it would have taken them weeks to complete this project without the assistance of volunteers.
Ronald McDonald Clay Shoot Charity Event
The technology and innovation division’s senior vice president Travis Yordi participated in the 15th Annual Sporting Clays event in Des Moines, Iowa. Each year, this event raises money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa, a non profit which provides housing and other support at or near hospitals for families with critically ill children. Travis participated in the event along with employees from our subsidiary companies, ending in fifth place out of 18 other teams. In total, the event raised $135,000.
