Two scores for Warriors West Orange High School is celebrating four decades of education in West Orange County. The community is invited to a ceremony and reception Feb. 8.
The West Orange Times & Observer has added a new writer to its editorial staff. Danielle Hendrix joined the newspaper Jan. 6. She will cover news, features and sports. Hendrix holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in world comparative studies from the University of Central Florida.
Several former students have had musical and sports careers.
Attention shutterbugs Oakland Nature Preserve will host its two-part “Capture Your World” series from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 23 and 30, at 747 Machete Trail Oakland. Join photographer Scott Lineberger of Mist Catcher Media Inc., who will begin each series in the classroom covering theory and techniques. The fun will continue with a walk around the preserve to apply the principles in the field. Registration is required and can be done at oaklandnaturepreserve.org. Classes are free for members and $5 for nonmembers.

n Cori Yarckin, Class of 2000, is a singer. She first became known for her role as Camille in the Nickelodeon TV series “Noah Knows Best.” She has opened for musical acts such as 30 Seconds to Mars, Soul Asylum and the Jonas Brothers, and her music has appeared in several television shows.
ROUND FOR A REASON
The original West Orange High School building was designed by architect Eoghan Newman Kelley, of Sanford, whose designs were based on the early-1970s trend of the open-school concept. The outer building was composed of large, simple geometric shapes with no windows, and the interior of each module was so laid out with movable walls. The modernistic design called for the library to be an open, sunken design located in the center of the complex. Nearly all the floors and many of the walls were carpeted.
