LEADERSHIP 2022 WW W W aagshul gshul oonders nders W W

As I sit here reflecting what words of wisdom I can share, it is hard to believe that a full year has passed since the publication of the first "Wagshul Wonders." This one now in your hands is edition #2. If you missed how this publication came to be, I will share a snippet.
A final note to mention. At the end of this publication is a word cloud. All the words on the back cover were chosen because during our selection process, these words were in the writings and art works we received, reviewed, discussed, and selected. These words exemplified what our student contributors thought a leader should possess, what leadership embodies. Add some of your own if you are inspired.
A Letter
Last year my long term service as a first grade educator was honored at the annual Wornick school Gala. First grade is a year where literacy unfolds for young students and the world of reading and writing magically evolves. Alongside this, in my own personal and professional journey, the creative arts weaved in and out. On the suggestion of Head of School, Adam Eilath, a yearly tribute began, incorporating the two disciplines that I am most passionate about, literacy and art.
This year the theme is Leadership 2022. The theme of the year is open to interpretation, as well as to any medium a student cares to use. Leaders are involved in all aspects of our lives, especially helping us navigate the many back and forth changes and new realities we all live with in this new backdrop of Covid. The purpose of these yearly publications is to encourage young artists and writers to submit work that embraces the theme It is open to our entire school community TK 8
A big shout out and thanks to Adam Eilath, Dana Izenson, Ginger Slonaker, and a few other staff members, who with their vision, support and talents, participated in this shared endeavor to create the second annual Wagshul Wonders literary journal publication LEADERSHIP 2022. With appreciation and much gratitude, Karen Wagshul From KAREN WAGSHUL
The dictionary defines a leader as a trailblazer. They have the ability to "lead," influence, or guide others. They articulate a clear vision and get others to work toward achieving that visionary goal by instilling excitement, motivation, and inspiration along the way. Leaders have to make sound, and sometimes difficult, decisions. They are problem solvers, innovative thinkers, having strong communication skills, are great listeners, know how to manage, are willing to take risks to move forward, are open to change, confident in a respectful way, creative of thought, persevere in the face of failure, levelheaded in times of a crisis, and empathic when needed. Leaders are found in all aspects of our society, all areas of knowledge and specialty, all ethnic and religious groups, all sizes, shapes, and gender identification. They provide the knowledge and tools necessary for all of the above. So, I ask all of you to mull over a few questions: What leadership traits do you possess? Are you an influencer? Are you a positive role model for others to follow? How can you make a difference along the way?

I learned at school about leadership and I believe that everyone can be a good leader if they want. Let me show you how.

AMIT S. 2nd Grade 2
My art is based on the famous Israeli artist Hanoch Piven who used objects he has at home that he doesn’t need any more to create people and by this he keeps the world clean and nice. This is Hanoch Piven and an example of his work: I built my leader from many toys I have at home:

The legs show balance that a leader needs.
The hands One hand is based on a flashlight with a compass because a leader should know and show people the right path to go. The leader believes and shows you that his way is to make a clean and green world.
Part 1 The body - I built it from puzzle pieces to show that a leader needs to know how to connect people together like you connect puzzle pieces.
The other leg shows Captain America defending people to keep them safe and an emoji that makes a sign that he made it. This leg shows success.
I built the leader with two parts.
Part 1 are things that belong to leadership and I made the body with them.
Part 2 are things that my leader likes and made the face with them.
It means a leader needs to keep trying even if they fail until it works and not get annoyed until they succeed.
The neck is based on Spiderman because Spiderman is strong and brave and he is climbing towards his goals (the head). A leader should be first and brave to lead people and make sure that the way is safe. Part 2
Me! BUILD YOUR OWN LEADER! Collage of mixed materials (displayed on page 1) 25x13" 3
One leg has a hole in the balloon to show failure.
The other hand is based on the idea that a leader should lend a hand to people and hold a mirror to teach them that everyone can look in the mirror and make a change in the world if they want to. They just need to believe in themselves. This is the beginning of leadership.
The things in the face are all things that my leader has and likes to do. He likes to draw pictures with lots of colors, play soccer, video games, cars and Lego. He also likes math, listening to music, and he loves America and Israel. If you like it, you can try to build your own leader. But before that, can you guess which leader I built?
MUSIC
MIA G. Kindergarten 4
Leading a marching band creates music, which makes everyone feel good! The marching band leader sets the beat of the band's music by playing a drum and the band members follow the beat by playing their instruments. A band leader creates a happy environment so the band members can play their instruments together to create beautiful music. A band leader must also solve problems such as correcting the band members if they play a wrong note. MAKES EVERYONE FEEL HAPPY! Paper and crayons 11x8.5"

A teacher shows leadership by teaching and supporting her students. A queen shows leadership by helping her subjects and leading them. A winner shows leadership by showing kids what they can do to win as well. A rebel leader shows leadership by leading a rebellion. RESPONSIBILITIES OF LEADERSHIP
“Responsibilities of Leadership” represents both the good and the bad of being a leader. Leadership is about taking responsibility and the girl in the drawing is holding up all of her responsibilities as a leader. While that makes her strong enough to be a good leader, it also holds her back in some ways because leadership is about representing a team, and staying strong for others as well as yourself.

CAPTAIN'S POLICE DOG
The Captain's Police Dog leads everyone to safety, finds clues first, and makes our world a better place. The reason “The Captain's Police Dog” shows leadership is because it leads the police to find criminals. A police dog is brave, kind and fierce when it needs to be. A dog is a policeman’s friend. The police dog and the police are partners and help each other. They are a leadership team!

11x8.5" I drew an anime style girl because I like reading manga and watching anime. Manga and anime are a style of art and storytelling that I like because they tell stories about love, school life, fantasy, sports, or adventure. Many manga (or manhua or manwha) are translated into English, which makes it easier to understand the story. But even those that are written in Japanese, Chinese or Korean tell their stories through expressive drawings. I draw manga-style art a lot because I like to make art that expresses feelings. I am especially inspired by the manga of Julietta Suzuki, who draws girls who are brave, loving, and fight hard for what they want. The girl in my art piece is describing what good leaders do. They help and inspire others, like Mother Teresa. They want to include everyone, like Malala Yousafzai and Susan B. Anthony. They follow the rules, like Ruth Bader Ginsburg. They always participate and lead by example, like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. The girl in my art piece is making the peace sign because good leaders should inspire changes through peaceful ways, not war. These leaders inspire me, and I want to inspire others.

Now, I don’t think that all leaders have to be girls, and all girls don’t need to look like what I drew. People come in all shapes and sizes. But, I have a reason that I drew a school girl. I want to encourage and inspire other girls to become good leaders. Some people may think that boys are better than girls, but I want to prove them wrong because I believe girls can do anything!

WAIT FOR TOMORROW
Poem This poem represents leadership, because to be united and to overcome the obstacles in life that block our way, there must be a brave leader that has the courage to put everything in order and lead the way through sorrow and storms. At the end of the poem I invite the reader to “be the one,” the leader.

We were born to be free, Have what we need, And live in love, And tranquility, In the mountains, In the meadows we live, Standing strong as we are, This is us, We lead through the night, Wherever we are, We stalk through the day, Wherever we are, Restless yet waiting, We help each other up, Waiting for the day, When we all come together, Be the one Wait, For tomorrow The sorrow takes over, But we must wait for tomorrow, To wash away the sorrow, That makes our hearts sad and hollow, If we give up, nothing will be achieved, And none believed, We are not yet trying to achieve, And not yet trying to believe, We just must wait for tomorrow, So the happiness will be in our grasps, So our actions will be good, Good for the better, We will refill our hearts with love, We will be even better than the above, We will try to be pure, For us, good we must lure, We have to fight for what we need, Even if it is through rain, Sun, And storm,

UNDERSTAND Markers and pencils and paper
Leadership is important because leaders make a difference in the world. I picked “Understanding” to describe what’s important in leadership because it is very important for leaders to understand people. This way they can lead something that people like and agree with or are excited about. Without understanding, nobody would like or want to follow the leader.

Space has thousands of galaxies and millions of stars. Space has an infinite feeling. It is open to so many dreams. For six months, Neil Armstrong trained harder than he had ever before in his life. On July 16, 1969, Neil Armstrong traveled to space. It took him three days to get to the moon. Everyone watched as he planted the U.S. American flag on the moon. This had never happened before. This became the biggest accomplishment of that year. For two weeks, he stayed in the ship in a small room in space. He became famous all over the world. This accomplishment made it possible for others to dream to go to space. If he could go, why couldn't other everyday people go also one day? Well those dreams of this leader in space did inspire others to go. Jeff Bezos went, Richard Branson went, Michael Strahan went, billionaires have gone and even some regular people with little training have gone. Maybe one day the dreams of your family, like your mom and dad and siblings will go. Maybe you too? We are inspired by the leadership of Neil Armstrong to follow our dreams and do whatever we think may not be possible. Well Neil Armstrong showed us that it is possible. Just like a dream has no limit, the sky and outer space has no limit. Now we have our own dreams of leadership and being leaders to inspire others. We have a small website that is not public yet. On this website, we post comics we have made. We even try selling some and giving away some comics for free. One day, we may aim high to win the Nobel Prize. Who knows?
