Mexico's preliminary Football World Cup team was announced on October 26. This was done before a friendly match against Iraq in Spain on November 9. Martino will use the results of that game to choose the 26 players he will take to Qatar. Before going to Qatar, El Tri will set up camp in Girona, Spain. They will play Iraq on November 9 and Sweden on November 16. On November 22, they will play Poland for the first time in Group C.

Martino will choose his final 26-player roster after the friendly against Iraq in Girona, Spain. After Mexico said that Jesus Manuel "Tecatito" Corona will not be back from his injury in time for the Football World Cup, he will only have to cut four players from the 31-person preliminary roster that was released in late October. The team in question would have to send a medical report to FIFA, and if the world governing body decides "the injury or illness is serious enough to keep the player from playing in the FIFA World Cup," then the replacement player will be allowed.
