FOCUS ON MANUFACTURING CONFERENCE: MANUFACTURERS FORUM The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) together with major manufacturers have identified the future of manufacturing and its implications on business process, people, the environment and society as an important subject for the entire sporting goods industry’s future activity. Active members of the Manufacturers Committee get first access to emerging knowledge, reports and recommendations that will shape the industry, before its general public release. All members have access to the Members Only area of www.wfsgi.org, where they can access confidential background information, committee minutes, and other timely updates about important changes to industry norms and standards.

Members receive free initial advice and discount legal fee at WFSGI Trade Helpdesk & WFSGI Legal Helpdesk; the CR Helpdesk is free.

Other information services include the WFSGI newsletter, with news alerts and industry updates; the annual magazine, our communication flagship and a high-profile source of a expert insights and current trends; and the exclusive online Job Market, which reaches over 500,000 industry executives.

Our Trade Helpdesk provides guidance and opinions on international trade law, customs law (including classification, valuation and rules of origin), trade regulations and policy (e.g. anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard investigations), trade barriers and counterfeit issues, and WTO law, practices, and dispute settlement proceedings. Our Legal Helpdesk advises on matters including international intellectual property coverage management, product safety, direct investments (purchase or sale of assets, shares or brands, etc.), arbitration and mediation, compliance issues and programs, and more. Our CR Helpdesk provides support in four general topic areas including environmental protection (including energy efficiency, materials and waste, water supply and systems, air emission control and noise protection etc.), occupational health and safety (including machine safety, ergonomics at workplaces, usage of chemicals, protection for workers, etc.), management to ISO standards (including Environment ISO 14001 or European EMAS-system, Health and safety OHSAS 18001, Quality ISO 9001, upcoming energy management ISO 16001). The CR Helpdesk also provides guidance on sustainable development as a modern philosophy to keep companies “fit for the future” and achieve a parallel and equal balance between economical, ecological and social aspects. This could involve waste free materials and products, no impact on materials by chemicals, CO2-free production, or carbon or water footprint analysis.

HOW WE WORK The WFSGI is composed of Executive and Board members, and 8 Committees which exchange information on various issues and topics. WFSGI Members meet at least once per year in an Ordinary General Assembly called the “Annual Meeting�. The General Assembly approves the budget and strategic direction of the WFSGI as proposed by the Board, and elects the Board, President and Committee members for three year terms.

Corporate Responsibility: Developing and promoting an understanding within the World Federation about the relevance of global societal, social and environmental trends like climate change, resource depletion, labor and health issues. International Sports Organizations (CISO): Represent the WFSGI as the industry consensus voice to all sports federations and organizations.

Trade: Address international trade issues facing the global sporting goods industry. Federations: Ad hoc collaboration with and between regional and national sporting goods industry member federations to develop, exchange and promote best practices, industry trends, market research, collaborative programming and problem solving.

Bicycle: Represent leading brands all levels (sport, trade, social and environmental issues), also the voice of the bicycle industry towards the UCI and the International Olympic Committee and protection against counterfeit.

Manufacturers: As a hub for manufacturers and manufacturing issues WFSGI is working on joint approaches to tackle common challenges and to identify key issues.

Legal: Facilitate and enhance the interaction, information exchange and co-operation between the WFSGI members on the latest international legal developments within the SGI.

ABOUT THE WFSGI WFSGI is an independent not-for-profit association. We have over 280 direct members (30% in Asia) and 5’000 indirect members, collectively representing 70% of global industry turnover, and the largest names in the industry. WFSGI was founded in 1978 with a mandate to unite and serve sports and sports-inspired leisure brands, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, national/regional federations, industry and trade associations and all sporting goods industry related businesses. WFSGI is the industry contact toward organizations and federations, governmental and intergovernmental bodies at international level (ILO, WTO, UN, etc.) and international sport organizations: International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Sports Federations (IFs).
