ORDERS Marenco Swisshelicopter Boosts Order Book Marenco Swisshelicopter has added a further 23 orders for its SKYe SH09 single-engined light helicopter, the company has revealed. The deals, which were completed at Heli-Expo 2012 in Dallas, take the total orders for the aircraft up to 34 units. Speaking at the show, Martin Stucki, CEO of Marenco Swisshelicopter, described how the company’s largest share of orders had come from the US. Four orders were taken the day before the show opened while the orders have come from a mix fleet operators and private individuals.

Belgian operator Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen (NHV) is expanding its fleet through a €150 million order for ten EC175 medium utility helicopters. Eurocopter and NHV signed the agreement at Heli-Expo. First aircraft deliveries are due to begin at the end of 2013 and continue through to 2015.

At Heli-Expo it was announced that LCI, which is the aviation division of the Libra Group, had signed a $400 million agreement for purchase of a fleet of AW139, AW169 and AW189 helicopters.

Air Engiadina has operated an S-76A+ for more than 20 years in the VIP transport role in the United Kingdom under PremiAir Aviation's air operator certificate. The company added an S-76C++ helicopter in 2009. The new S-76D aircraft will be operated in the UK or Switzerland for VIP and passenger flights. Sikorsky says the new EASA-certified aircraft will be delivered to Air Engiadina's European operation in 2013. Following the contract signing, NHV CEO, Eric Van Hal said that the order was part of a major investment plan and the company was looking to purchase an additional €100 million worth of aircraft in coming years. NHV already operates EC155 B1, AS365 Dauphin, EC145 and EC120B helicopters Van Hal said the EC175s would be equipped for transportation flights for the oil and gas sector, and will also be used for SAR mission. While the benefits of the leasing model had obvious appeal for smaller operators, Kelly said they had been surprised at the level of interest shown by the larger operators. Milestone has signed agreements with Bristow, CHC and Inaer. The 16 EC225s will be delivered over three years from 2013 and will be configured as per operator demand.

The company hopes to build 10 examples in the first year and double production in the second year before increasing to 40 in the third year. It added that the it could be building between as many as 80 to 100 examples a year by 2020.

The company has embarked on the assembly of the first prototype in a hangar at Mollis airfield near Zurich. A maiden flight is planned before the end of the year with first customer deliveries planned for 2015.

In a further indication of the health of the helicopter leasing sector, Milestone Aviation, based in Ireland and the USA, have signed a $480 million order for 16 EC225 helicopters during Heli-Expo. Milestone Aviation CEO William Kelly said that the company was excited about this first partnership with Eurocopter and the company was pleased to remove the ‘capital hurdle’ of operating the aircraft for users. Kelly said since launching in August 2010, the company had provided more than $600 million in financing to a number of operators around the world.
Alongside the Eurocopter order, the company also signed a contract at Heli-Expo to purchase three S-92 helicopters. While Milestone is the first global aircraft leasing company to focus exclusively on helicopters, the company recently received competition in the form of Lease Corporation International’s (LCI) new helicopter division.
