13 June. Imagining Einstein by David Muller at the Guild Theatre at 10am. Albert Einstein’s work changed the thinking about the universe and opened up a new look at science, and at physics in particular. Cape Town actor, David Muller, has written and performs in a 70-minute single-hander, Imagining Einstein, which re-unites the audience with the four papers Einstein wrote in 1905 and which had such a lasting effect on how we observe the world. The play traces Einstein’s life from early childhood and his school days where he was unhappy to be learning by rote. It touches on his early adulthood, his time in the patent office, his marriages, his science achievements and the effect the World Wars had on a pacifist whose work was a catalyst for the atomic bomb. With a few of Einstein’s own words, David makes clear the highly complicated mathematics that arrived at E= MC squared. And with the help of his audience he will show how the speed of light is constant; he will explain the photo-electric effect and how the Brownian Motion works. David also touches on the science of others like Galileo, Isaac Newton and James Clerk Maxwell. Imagining Einstein is aimed at grades 10 and 11, although any high school learner will be entertained and edutained. Tickets R10 per learner.
