Dear Trade Partners,

We are only a few weeks away from Christmas, and I am sure you would agree with me that it is a tremendous time to work in retail! I have spent time in local and regional stores and can already see that the excitement we experienced at the Christmas and Summer Trade Show is translating into high energy within our stores.

Value is more important than ever for Australians this Christmas and Summer, and with your support, we continue to provide our customers with more options to find value in our stores. Through our Dropped for Christmas campaign, we have over 150 products on offer and another 350 as part of Dropped for Summer.

A meal isn’t complete without a centre of table at Christmas and we also know customers are firing up their BBQs as the weather warms up, so we have dropped the price of 26 lamb products by 20% to help our customers spend less this festive season.

Two products I would like to highlight are the lamb leg roast at $8kg, which is the lowest promotional price on lamb leg roasts since February 2017 and the lowest regular price on lamb since June 2013. We are also pleased to offer our award winning Australian half leg ham for the low price of $8 a kilo and they are selling very fast!

We know that by making the centre of plate as affordable as we can, our customers' dollar goes further and benefits other categories across the store.

I would like to thank every Trade Partner for engaging with us as we prepare to make this the best Christmas yet. I look forward to more conversations on how we can support every one of our Trade Partners in the new year to bring a little good to everyone every day.

Trophies with purpose Our Trade Partner of the Year 2023 trophies are more than just an award – they also celebrate the incredible work of the Caringbah Craft Centre. he Caringbah Craft Centre was established in 1976 to provide social interactions and activities for people recovering from strokes. In 2017, the program expanded to include people with disability.

Woolworths is proud to have partnered with Caringbah Craft Centre to hand-make our trophies for this year’s award ceremony. Their team delivered a high-quality product that was made with love and pure passion.

Located in Caringbah, NSW, the centre provides a place for people with disabilities to work alongside qualified staff and skilled volunteers to produce something really special. Whether it’s wooden toys for preschools or gifts for family and friends, there’s something for everyone.

Wally

the Wombat:

The tasty treat helping Aussie wildlife Wally the Wombat first appeared on Woolworths shelves in Christmas 2022, and brought joy to many customers by starring on their Christmas table. Now he’s back by popular demand!

B

rothers and owners of Buonissimo, David and Michael, developed Wally in their award-winning Sydney bakery. David said: “[Me and Michael] are both pastry chefs, having worked in various different patisseries and commercial bakeries. This, paired with our Italian heritage and desire to supply Woolworths, is how Buonissimo was born.”

The concept for Wally the Wombat was created out of a desire to create a special and uniquely Australian treat for the entire family to enjoy at Christmas. The native Australian animal representation and premium ingredients are Wally’s point of difference among the many other festive products available this Christmas.

David, Michael and the team at Buonissimo learned many lessons during the development process - Wally’s face and body shape took many attempts to perfect!

David told us: “Wally the Wombat is special to Buonissimo in so many ways. We love Wally and all the incredible ingredients and components that form him.”

“There was a lot of work behind the scenes to bring him to life, which makes it so much more special seeing him become such a great success.”

Not only is Wally delicious, but he represents an incredible cause. For every Wally the Wombat purchase, Woolworths donates $1 to support the rescue and care of native Australian wildlife.

WIRES CEO Leanne Taylor said: “The Woolworths and WIRES Food For Wildlife program has provided carers across Australia with extensive support to take care of injured or orphaned wildlife – we are extremely grateful to Woolworths for their support and are thrilled with the launch of Wally the Wombat in stores to help our animals in care get back into the wild in time for Christmas”.

One of these animals is Noël the bare-nosed wombat. This Christmas is an important milestone for Noël because it marks the one-year anniversary of coming into the care of Wild Hearts Rescue after his mother was sadly hit by a car.

Direct funding from the Food For Wildlife Program meant that Wild Hearts Rescue could provide Noël with enough milk to recover from his injuries and put on weight.

Now a teenager, Noël lives in a large prerelease enclosure where he practises digging burrows and skills for life in the wilderness.

David has shared his enthusiasm to support this important cause: “We're all massive lovers of animals here at Buonissimo, so to be given the opportunity to support wildlife and WIRES through making such a special product is something we’re incredibly proud of.”

Wally the Wombat is the perfect way to add a tasty treat to family celebrations these holidays while also doing good for real wombats such as Noël.

The teams behind Wally want him to become a household name beyond Christmas - watch this space!

Range Review 101 Part 2

Our customers' needs are ever-evolving. While some have their preferred brands and products, their buying behaviour is also influenced by seasonal shifts and the allure of new products and emerging trends. Balancing our range is key to meeting and exceeding our customers’ needs.

In our first edition of Curated, we covered the basics of a Range Review.

In this edition, we’re looking at the new changes we’re making to update and simplify our Range Review Process. Kane Rennie, Head of Category Development, explains what these changes are and what they mean for you as our Trade Partner.

Q Why were the updates made?

We’ve listened to and learned from our Trade Partners’ feedback through Voice of Supplier that this process needed review and improvement. It was identified that we needed to work better with our Trade Partners and allow for more flexibility and customisation.

The team has done an analysis of our Range Review Calendar and reporting, and pinpointed areas of opportunity.

Q What are the changes, and what does this mean for me?

We have recently revised and launched the end-to-end process and are excited to see your team experience the new simplified process. Some of the key benefits of these changes are: • ●A reduction in the number of reviews – This will enable a more purposeful approach to each Range Review.

• ●Adjustments to timelines – Your Category Manager may commence engagement with you earlier to give more time to the process where required, such as supplier engagement and submission.

• ●A change in the calculation of implementation time – This will enable a more accurate view of cost, time, and resources to be allocated.

Following on from these exciting changes, we will also be aiming to replace Minor Range Reviews with Range Refresh Reviews from F25 onwards.

This revised review type is a short, tactical, and smaller review based on criteria agreed upfront with your Category Manager. This enables speed to market for customers in line with the predetermined longer term category strategy set in the previous Major Reviews.

Q Will this change how I interact with the team at Woolworths?

Communication between you and your Category Manager will continue, and they will support and assist you throughout the updated process. Partner Hub and the Range Review Calendar will remain the key tools for you to use during a Range Review.

ur team was inspired by the conversations and experiences that took place during the Trade Show, and we look forward to seeing that engagement come to life for our customers as we head into the Christmas trading period.

Reducing hunger and food waste We partnered with OzHarvest and FoodBank for this year’s Trade Show to further enhance our approach to reducing hunger and food waste. We donated 7,080kg of food to OzHarvest and 2 entire truckloads of food to FoodBank – both of these organisations have distributed our samples to feed those in need.

Helping budgets go further We implement a number of value mechanics to help our customers find value when they shop at Woolworths.

These include seasonal Prices Dropped programs, a strong weekly promotional program, and our new Everyday Rewards program which continues to grow in popularity. Reach out to your Category Manager to see how you can get involved.

Low Price & Prices Dropped We have over 4,000 products on our red program.

Low Price provides consistent Everyday Value that customers can rely on and includes over 1,500 own brand products. Prices are maintained for at least 3 months from entering the program.

Prices Dropped includes both permanent and seasonal price reductions that are maintained for at least 3 months. A maximum of 3 promotions per season can be run off the Dropped price.

Specials Our yellow prices offer great value on key brands and products that customers buy most.

There are over 6,000 weekly specials across the store available to all customers.

Yellow offers appear in a few formats: • Discounts expressed in "Save $[X]" • Discounts expressed in "Save [X]%" • Multibuy Promotions (e.g. 2 for $5) • Online-only promotions Promotions typically have a duration of 1-4 weeks.

Everyday Rewards Customers can unlock additional value through membership of the Everyday Rewards program.

Sustainability update Trade Partner Sustainability Council

Showcase

I

n October, we invited all Trade Partners to take part in our third Trade Partner Sustainability Council Showcase.

The Showcase – viewed by more than 500 Trade Partners – was an excellent platform to deep dive into two council focus areas of Packaging & Recycling and Healthier Choices.

It was an opportunity for the Woolworths team to share our customer insights, progress, and updates on key initiatives, alongside celebrating successes to inspire best-practice with our Trade Partners.

Six Trade Partners also had the opportunity to share their individual case studies on how they were making an impact in the key sustainability areas.

Action Plan to

Phase Out PFAS in Fibre-Based Food Contact Packaging VERSION 2: DECEMBER 2022

Removal of PFAS PFAS are a family of chemicals that are used in some consumer goods and food packaging to provide stain resistance, water and oil repellency, and other properties.

PFAS does not occur naturally, and has been found to persist in humans, animals, and the environment for long periods of time.

In 2022, the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) published an action plan to phase out PFAS. This plan is designed to support businesses to voluntarily phase out intentionally added PFAS in fibre-based food contact packaging and products by December 2023, setting an expectation for industry to develop a strategy to transition away from using PFAS in all packaging and products.

Woolworths have launched a PFAS policy on our own branded fibre-based food contact products and packaging, which aims to remove intentionally added PFAS and restrict unintentionally added PFAS to less than 100ppm.

It is anticipated that PFAS regulations will be introduced as part of single-use plastic statebased regulations in the near future, and we highly encourage our Trade Partners to identify if their products contain added PFAS and start working to develop alternatives.

Launch of new Christmas bag To inspire holiday spirit and encourage customers to bring their bags when they shop, we are launching two new designs of our Christmas paper bags now available in store and online.

The bags – which have been available since November 8 – are available until stock runs out. The bags are made from at least 70% recycled paper and are designed to be repurposed as wrapping paper or gift tags.

Keep an eye out for the bags in store and online, and don’t forget to share the news with your family and friends!

Refresh of packaging guidance and resources on Partner Hub As part of Woolworths’ Trade Partner Sustainability Council for Packaging and Recycling, and in line with our growing focus on packaging, we have refreshed our packaging guidance and resources page in Partner Hub available here.

In addition to Woolworths guidance, this page now contains updated and additional Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) resources to encourage and assist all our Trade Partners in developing more sustainable packaging.

We have recently released:

Updates to Woolworths Australia’s Preferred Primary Packaging Materials List The updates now reflect APCO’s recyclability threshold changes over the past 12 months, including changes in soft plastics, rigid plastic (HDPE), and specific state regulations. These updates will support Trade Partners in the removal of problematic or hard-to-recycle packaging materials.

New ARL guidance for Trade Partners This guidance is a simple one pager to help our Trade Partners understand the Australian Recycling Label (ARL) and how to apply it to packaging. The document also guides smaller businesses to APCO’s ARL Marketplace, a platform providing free access to the ARL and relevant resources.

Sustainability guidance for secondary and tertiary packaging, along with guidance for in store displays, can also be found within the site.

Health Star Rating algorithm updates In October, we reminded our Trade Partners who utilise the Health Star Rating (HSR) of the November deadline for changes to the HSR algorithm. These changes were announced after the government’s Five Year Review of the Health Star Rating system in 2019, with recommendations and changes published in 2020.

Flushability Requirements and Labelling Policy update

If you supply any products that display a Health Star Rating, please ensure these ratings are corrected in line with the required methodology. If you require support as you review and update your data, please raise an Administration Case in Partner Hub. We also encourage you to keep connecting with your Category teams to see how we can support your progress in these areas.

To ensure clarity for our Trade Partners, we have updated the wording within the Woolworths Group’s Flushability Requirements and Labelling Policy to ensure the policy requirements are clear.

We are aware of the challenges that products that do not meet the government’s flushability standard can cause to wastewater infrastructure if flushed.

We want to enable customers to more clearly distinguish between products which can be flushed from those likely to cause damage to infrastructure or the environment.

From their family table to yours Small Australian brand Belladotti was created

by Sunshine Coast couple Melanie and Marco Guidotti in 2012 through a desire to create a connection between their Italian heritage, their passion for good food, and their skills and disciplines.

We had the opportunity to speak to co-founder Melanie Guidotti to learn more about the Belladotti story.

Q Can you tell us how the Belladotti brand was born and where the name came from?

Having serviced global customers in our respective fields for over 20 years, Marco and I decided to apply our disciplines and passion for healthy eating to our own gourmet-convenience venture - this is how Belladotti was born.

Marcus and I wanted to create a connection between our Italian heritage, our passion for good food, and the skills we’d picked up during our careers. We landed on focusing on creating healthy and quick meal solutions for busy home cooks without compromising ingredient quality.

We have taken authentic Italian recipes and scaled them up for production, and believe we have retained their quality by

predominantly hand-mixing and packaging Italian arborio rice, couscous, freeze-dried vegetables, and herbs and spices with no additives or preservatives.

As for the name Belladotti, “Bella” is the Italian word for ‘beautiful’ and “dotti” comes from the end of our surname.

Q Yourself and Marco have some fascinating experience in advertising and marketing - how have these skills helped you bring Belladotti to life?

Marco ran a very successful advertising agency for over two decades and has experience in creating eye-catching and award-winning packaging. My expertise lies in public relations and customer service, not to mention my experience in working as a food stylist.

At Belladotti, we truly live, eat, and sleep our consumer market and their needs. Anything we put our name on is regularly eaten and enjoyed at our own family table.

Q How did your partnership commence with Woolworths?

We were lucky enough to be sourced as a small local business under the “local sourcing banner” in a number of Queensland Woolworths stores.

Our sales, as well as many conversations with our Category Managers, meant we were able to secure a larger, national listing with Woolworths and achieve a major goal of ours.

This will be our third year on the national listing, and as a small business based on the Sunshine Coast, we are immensely proud of our association with Woolworths.

Q What have been the rewards of working with Woolworths?

We have loved working with Woolworths. We heard many stories about the larger retailers being difficult to work with prior to our own experience, but have found Woolworths to be very supportive of small local businesses and realistic in their expectations.

We have learnt so much during the process and owe a lot of our experience and growth to opportunities given by Woolworths.

It has required a lot of dedication, hard work, and persistence, but the process has definitely been positive and we would certainly recommend it as a route to market for other local suppliers.

Q What are your aspirations and goals for Belladotti? Are there any other exciting products or projects in the pipeline?

We are always working on new products to add to our range, as well as improvements within our current flavour profiles. Watch this space…

Q What have been some of the biggest lessons on your journey with Belladotti?

Don’t give up! When you feel that you’re banging your head against a wall, look for a new angle. Take full responsibility for your brand and don’t rely on others to do the work for you. Lead by example and action.

e’re always looking for ways to work collaboratively with our Trade Partners and aspire to bring a little bit of good to our customers every time they shop with us. An integral part of this is providing our Trade Partners and Field Teams access to data to identify and action on-shelf availability through the Compass app.

Compass is a free app available on the Apple Store and Google Play for Woolworths Trade Partners. It effortlessly enhances store visits for Field Teams by surfacing the most important, near-real-time information about your products and store layouts.

Easy to set up and easy to use, Compass provides Field Teams with important product information such as: • ●Store-specific planograms.

• ●Item search displaying item locations in store.

• ●Near-live stock on hand, on order, and in transit data.

• ●Promotional display commitments.

• ●Alerts for Trade Partners on products experiencing lost sales.

• ●The ability to request price tickets to be printed.

Compass will now include the ability to print missing tickets, and associate and disassociate Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) in stores.

To support you with these new features, a ‘Compass ESL Training Guide’ will be made available on Partner Hub in the coming weeks. The guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to update or download Compass, and how to associate and disassociate ESL tags through the app.

We’re always looking for ways to improve and enhance our offerings to Trade Partners, and the Compass app is no exception.

Keep an eye out for future updates and enhancements, as Compass will become your go-to tool in stores.

Visiting our fruit and vegetable Trade Partners M

any members of our Fruit and Vegetables team took to the highway back in September and October to visit some of our South Australian, Western Australian, and Queensland Trade Partners at their farms.

The team was delighted to have the opportunity to spend time with our Trade Partners face-to-face, discover the history of the farms - many of which have been family-owned for several generations - and learn more about the processes involved in growing and harvesting the high-quality produce our customers enjoy.

One of the Trade Partners our team visited is Qualipac, a sprawling farm growing broccoli, onions, and pumpkin across 2,400 acres in Queensland. Owners Troy and Bradley are always trying to stay at the forefront of technology and told us about their new farming robots that weed their paddocks using GPS. The robots weed around their plants, send status updates via text message, and park themselves at the end of the day.

These Trade Partner visits provide valuable insights for the team and allow us to learn more about each other as we work together as business partners.

The ultimate festive event in Toowoomba isn’t in December or January, it’s in September.

W

hen the colourful Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers rolls into town, the Woolworths team - led by Woolworths Drayton’s Store Manager Adrian - work incredibly hard to design and build a beautiful float for the Grand Central Floral Parade.

The theme for this year’s Carnival of Flowers was Create a Buzz, something that called for the Woolworths team to create something special to awe the crowds of Toowoomba.

This is no small feat. In previous years, the Carnival of Flowers has attracted more visitors than the Australian Grand Prix and the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival.

This is where Pine Valley Flowers stepped up to the challenge.

A well-established floral Trade Partner for our Queensland supermarkets, Pine Valley Flowers generously supplied and transported 400 potted plants, 150 flower bouquets, and thousands of individual blooms, grasses, and leaves to adorn the Woolworths float.

Queensland honey Trade Partner Capilano also offered their very own PhoeBee mascot

to dance alongside the float and bring joy to the onlooking crowds.

In the days before the parade, it was all hands on deck for the Woolworths team, and the final result of the team’s incredible efforts was a flowery float fit for the very special guests on board - the families of local team members and the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Woolworths float was a smashing success, winning the parade’s Best Corporate Entry and Grand Champion awards. The efforts of the team also raised $4,000 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation through the sale of flowers, specially-designed team shirts, and donated prize money.

When reflecting on the importance of the Carnival of Flowers, Adrian said: “The Carnival is an exciting time of the year for the entire Toowoomba team, the town comes alive as spring kicks in. Bringing the float to life each year is a special moment for myself and the team and we’re proud to be able to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation in all the work that they do.”

Curating our ice cream range In early October, we landed our Range Curation for ice cream.

This is the start of a multi-review transformation that will ultimately change how customers shop for ice cream in our stores.

Differentiating our offer

Given the current economic climate, value is more pertinent than ever. To support our customers through these difficult times, we’ve highlighted over one thousand bays nationally with Low Price or Dropped POS. This focus on value has also seen us relaunch a comprehensive own brand range, including some old favourites like 4L ice cream tubs and new products such as our Woolworths Loaded Pints.

As we continue to improve our offering, we’ve also had great success in truly differentiating our offer to the rest of the market. We’ve been able to support small Trade Partners like Pat & Sticks and Elato without compromising on supporting large local businesses, and have also been able to establish great grounding in the local milk industry.

Meaningful clusters To facilitate a better shopping experience for our customers, we’ve implemented five new clusters. These clusters evolve from a strong value-focused offer all the way to a range of super premium and decadent ice creams.

Our two variations on these clusters include both a specific health and/or bulk variation to better tailor our customer offer in a more micro-demographic.

New and exclusive products Last, but not least by any means, we have brought fun, excitement, and talkability to the aisle with the launch of many new and exclusive products. These fantastic brands include Tillamook, Lotus Biscoff Ice Cream, Doughlicious, Little Moons, and The Cheesecake Factory.

#MakeTextileWasteVanish T

extile waste continues to be a growing issue in Australia, with the average Australian discarding 23 kilograms of clothing and assorted textiles into landfill each year.

This equates to 6 tons of textile waste being discarded into landfill every ten minutes.

These statistics put Australia as the secondlargest consumer of textiles per person in the world after the United States.

Textile waste is also harmful to the environment. As they decompose in landfills, they release methane which impacts global warming and climate change.

Woolworths is excited to move into the second year of the #MakeTextileWasteVanish campaign with laundry brand Vanish and textile upcycler Upparel to help divert one million clothing items from landfill.

Woolworths customers who purchased any pack of Vanish Gold Multi Power during the campaign period of October 4 and to November 1 received a FREE Upparel pick-up for their preloved clothes.

Small Supplier Commercial Report

T

he Small Supplier Commercial Report, launched in November 2023, provides small Trade Partners with better visibility into their performance, helping them make more informed business decisions and drive more constructive conversations with the Commercial team.

The Small Supplier Commercial Report also includes a range of metrics at product level, some of which are the same metrics Category Managers use when making ranging decisions.

The report is available to businesses registered in Australia that are identified as a small business on the Small Business Identification tool and have less than $10 million in annual revenue.

The report is available for suppliers to view via the Quantium portal or download as an Excel file for further analysis of product insights. Over 51% of Woolworths’ small Trade Partners have already opted in to receive the report, and feedback has been positive:

Our new blastfreezing solution for Trade Partners We are pleased to share a new capability with our Trade Partners from Primary Connect Heathwood Chilled & Frozen Distribution Centre’s blast-freezing solution.

How does blast-freezing work?

A blast freezer is a freezer fitted with high-velocity fans, forcing very cold air around a product for a determined time.

It very rapidly brings down the temperature of products like ice cream, fresh produce, and meat freezing them for freshness.

Once the product is blast-frozen, it can be moved into a standard freezer for longer-term storage.

What are the benefits of blast-freezing?

The very rapid freezing within a blast freezer causes the crystals formed to be very small, which reduces potential damage to the product and preserves food at a higher quality.

Aside from the integrity, quality, and taste of the food, blast-freezing also offers a health and safety benefit in that extreme cold slows down the growth of bacteria.

Provided that the food is handled safely and put into the freezer immediately after preparation, there is a greatly reduced risk of contamination. This is one of the reasons why blast-freezing is very popular in commercial food preparation.

What is available for Woolworths Trade Partners?

Heathwood DC has four state-of-the-art blast-freezer chambers, fitting up to 48 pallets each and configurable to your product's unique blast freezer exposure requirements. There are also state-of-the-art inventory management systems available at the facility.

Primary Connect+ transport can pick up your product, bring it to Heathwood DC, blast-freeze it for you, and then store it on-site or deliver it to wherever you require it.

Highly-trained staff follow very strict guidelines required to handle your specific products and ensure product integrity is maintained.
