I acquired my first spinning wheel when I was 14 years old and quickly realized I wanted to be able to grow my own fiber. After 2 years of research I brought home Timothy and Posy, two bottlefed Angora goats, and so Cedar Hill Fiber Farm was born. I was continually sold out of their fiber, and so added more goats, Giant Angorarabbits, andsheepovertheyears as I finished up high school and college Our farm is 9 years old now and still continuing with the goal of providing soft andluxuriousspinningfiber.
Toprovideluxuriousnaturalfibersformy own family and as many others as possible
We have Angora goats, Giant Angora rabbits, Finnsheep, CVMs, and CVM/Romney crosses, as well as one token Shetland sheep. I select breeds/species that provide a high quantity of soft, easy to process fiber, and prefer animals with gentle personalities.Withlimitedlandresources I am passionate about finding the perfectfiberanimaltousethespace…so much so that one of the key workshops I teach is about getting started fiber farming with a large focus on proper breedselection!
So many people have been very influentialinstartingmyfiberartsjourney, but it all started with a pioneer spinning demonstration in 2004 I was completely enthralled with the spinning wheel, and the thought of making yarn from cute sheepinstantlybecamemydream.
I taught myself to spin after buying my first spinning wheel, and then my goat mentor taught me to shear and process Mohair. After that it has been lord of trial and error to refine and develop my own techniques. Now I am passionate about gettingothersstartedinfiberarts.
It’s hard enough to travel for fiber festivals with a farm to take care of, but now as a mother of littles it is next to impossible.IlovethatWAFAgivesmethe opportunity for a fiber community year roundandwithouttheneedfortravel!
Knitspin is a Indy Dyer, we handdyed by hand all of our Roving, Yarns, we love to dyed handmade fibers.

Book: Fiber Radical
Host: Jean Layton
Zoom Meeting
For centuries, fiber arts have influenced sciences as diverse as digital technology, mathematics, neuroscience, medicine and more Radical Fiber explores this relationship through contemporary art and historical artifacts that address five key themes: shape, machine, body, brain and community How did the accidental discovery of synthetic mauveine dye in 1856 pave the way for modern pharmaceuticals while also generating toxic waste? Why do we respond differently to a woven photograph than a printed one? These and other questions reframe the fiber/science intersection and ask how the medium can be used to improve our world for the future
Radical Fiber featuresa new artwork created by amateur and professional makers around the globe: the Saratoga Springs Satellite Reef, part of the Crochet Coral Reef project by Christine and Margaret Wertheim and the Institute For Figuring Alongside numerous unidentified artists, additional artists and creators include: Lia Cook, Brock Craft, Veronica Dry, Anna Dumitriu, Ellis Developments, Hanne Kekkonen, Kintra Fibers, Elaine Krajenke Ellison, Karen Norberg, William Henry Perkin, Helen Remick, Dario Robleto, Daniela Rosner, Samantha Shorey, John Sims, Soft Monitor (Victoria Manganiello and Julian Goldman), Daina Taimina, Cecilia Vicuna and Carolyn Yackel
