HOW DID YOUR BUSINESS GET STARTED? II began spinning about two and a half years ago, when I finally caved to the influence of my best friend, who is a knitter, and it was actually my first fiber art! I have now learned to knit, weave, and crochet. Now, as a second year veterinary student, I spin to stay sane!

The decision to begin selling my yarn came from two main motivations: To make a little money to buy more fiber and because I was making so much yarn that our little apartment was overflowing! Yarns from Vet School was officially established in 2023

WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS'S GOAL To help inspire the next generation of fiber artists! I recently came into ownership of several antique spinning wheels. Through my journey of learning about the wheels and figuring out the logistics of transporting and storing them, I came into contact with a portion of the fiber arts community that is particularly invested in the preservation of antique tools like these wheels. I quickly learned that the very wheels I had purchased had sparked a discussion when they were first listed for sale! There was a lot of concern about the fate of the cherished collections of many artists, due to a lack of enthusiasm and knowledge in the rising generation. It brought me so much joy to be able to share that the wheels had come to a spinner, and that I would do my best to ensure that they went to homes where they would be loved and used!

HOW DID YOU LEARN YOUR CRAFT? WAS THERE SOMEONE WHO INSPIRED YOU IN YOUR FIBER ARTS JOURNEY? The first person would be my best friend, Whitney. As I mentioned above, she was my first true introduction to the fiber arts world.

Then, when I finally picked up my first drop spindle, she was right there, learning with me!

The second person is Jean, from Marie Feather Fiber Crafts! What started out as a casual exchange about a custom blend has turned into the most wonderful friendship and business partner I could ask for! Without her support and encouragement, there is no way my business would be where it is today.

We push each other to try new things and love to bounce ideas off of each other!

My best friend and I first learned to spin on drop spindles by watching tutorials on YouTube. Then, a few months later, I took a beginning spinners class at Heindselman's in Provo, UT (the oldest yarn shop in the US)!

Having someone there to give me such personalized and expert feedback made all the difference.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE FIBER BLEND? Yes! I love silk blends, especially BFL/silk and, my newest love, Shetland/Silk!

DO YOU HAVE FIBER ANIMALS? Only if you count dogs that shed! A lot!

WHAT MAKES WAFA SPECIAL FOR YOU? Definitely the community! I love having a place to ask questions, share my achievements, and see the beautiful things everyone else creates!

WAFA also fills the space of a local yarn shop for me! I don't live close to a yarn shop or many festivals, and it is amazing to be able to see the work of the amazing vendors. I feel honored to be able to sell among them!
