What are politics of 63rd District? By Larry Lough

Will it be a Democrat or a Republican who wins the Illinois House District 63 seat this year? Democrat Jack Franks of Marengo won his first term in the Illinois House in 1998 by only 138 votes and went on to serve 18 years as representative of
the Woodstock-centered legislative district. “I ran as a Democrat because it was a Republican district,” Franks said. “I wanted to show we have a two-party system. If it had been a Democratic district, I would have run as a Republican.” He gave up the seat to run for, and win, the office of McHenry County Board chairman in 2016.
Republican Steve Reick of Woodstock, who has held the seat since Franks stepped aside, hopes to win a third term in November. Despite the district’s political leaning that seemed to favor them, Republicans sometimes didn’t bother to put up a candidate against Franks, such as 2008 and 2012. When Reick challenged
