Jolly Phonics has had a huge impact on global literacy and is used in over 150 countries - supporting countless children to read and write. It uses engaging resources and a multi-sensory approach, appealing to a wide range of learning styles.
Phonics is a method of teaching reading and writing. It starts with learning the letter sounds of English. Children then learn how to ‘blend’ these letter sounds together to read a word, so that d-o-g becomes the spoken ‘dog’. They then learn how to ‘segment’ a word into its sounds, so that the spoken ‘dog’ is heard as d-o-g. This is necessary for writing. To put the learning into practice, suitable ‘decodable’ reading books are used.
Jolly Phonics programmes incorporate stories, songs, actions, and games - appealing to a variety of learning styles and needs. Involving multiple senses also helps reinforce children’s learning - making it easier for them to remember and apply new skills.

We recognise that choosing a Phonics programme is an investment and a decision with long-term impact for your school.
Our Phonics programme: extends from Kindergarten to Year 6 is aligned with the Science of Reading (a body of research into how children learn to read and write, and the most effective ways to teach them)
There is no one-size fits all approach and we encourage teachers to use their expertise and understanding of their pupils and class to adapt lessons as and when needed. Our range of resources enables teachers’ autonomy over their teaching, whilst providing extra support where needed.
Recommended Usage
We have put together 5 different packages for ways in which you may wish to use these resources. We understand, however, that each school is different with varying needs; these are purely our recommendations and not the way you have to structure the teaching throughout your school/class. This is a great option if you’re only wanting to use phonics learning in a Kindy Classroom or a great option for Early Learning Centres wanting to introduce phonics and the early stages of reading and writing to their children.

These books were originally targeted for UK school years, so schools here may find the years are pitched too low, so schools may want to move book 2 to year 1, book 3 to year 2 and so on, but that would be up to each individual school. This would mean Year 6 had no ‘structured’ lessons, but this year instead could be used for consolidation/boosting learners that have struggled. This approach allows for more flexibility and adaptability across the age ranges.
