Dance Composition: An Interrelated Arts Approach helps students investigate dance movement from a multidisciplinary perspective something that no other dance text or package does. The exercises examine traditional and contemporary art forms from around the world and explore ways to physically interpret what is heard, seen, spoken, and emoted through movement experimentation. Through these exercises, students observe a concept, explore it by working independently and watching others, and reflect on it with others. They then create and present a choreographic work based on their explorations and reflections. The choreography is discussed in a final group reflection and personal journal entries in which students can document their findings for future use.

By Clare Guss-West
The Western approach to dance is largely focused on control and mastery of technique, both of which are certainly necessary skills for improving performance. But mindful attention, despite its critical role in high performance, has gotten short shrift-until now. Attention and Focus in Dance, a how-to book rooted in the 20 years of attentional focus findings of researcher Gabriele Wulf, will help dancers unlock their power and stamina reserves, enabling efficient movement, heightening their sensory perception and releasing their dance potential.
Author Clare Guss-West-a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and holistic practitioner-presents a systematic, sciencebased approach to the mental work of dance. Her approach helps dancers hone the skills of attention, focus and self-cueing to replenish energy and enhance their physical and artistic performance.
Attention and Focus in Dance offers readers: A unique approach, connecting the foundations of Eastern movement with Western movement forms, research -based teaching practices in diverse contexts, including professional dance companies, private studios, and programmes for dancers with special needs or movement challenges, testimonies and tips from international professional dancers and dance educators who use the book's approach in their training and teaching and a dance-centric focus that can be easily integrated into existing training and teaching practice, in rehearsal, or in rehabilitation contexts to provide immediate and long-term benefits.

Written by a diverse group of authors from across the globe, Dance Cultures Around the World offers students a rich and indepth look at 25 different cultures of dance. Through a dynamic collaboration with the chapter authors, editors Lynn E. Frederiksen and Shih-Ming Li Chang have carefully created a unique multimedia resource that includes vetted links to dance videos, images, and other materials.
The text, suitable for high school and undergraduate general education and dance courses, addresses cross-cultural dynamics, colonialism, diaspora, politics, and more as critical factors in learning about cultures of dance around the world
Written by cultural insiders, the chapters illuminate contexts and histories of dances often misinterpreted through the notion of dance as a universal language. To ensure rich cross-cultural engagement, the insiders "translate" their dance cultures, showing how influential forces affect both the qualities of the dance and its place in society.
Dance Cultures Around the World offers a wealth of information It explores dance cultures in nine geopolitical regions. It reveals patterns that operate in each region, adjusting for historical, political, and geographical differences. It enriches the reader's experience of their own culture, as well as those of others, as they learn what dance is in various cultures, who dances, and why they dance. Each chapter begins with a vignette describing a signature dance or dance-related feature of the culture, followed by an introduction to its history and geography.

Most dance production books are written from the perspective of a production manager or designer, focusing on the technical aspects of a traditional dance production. Producing Dance takes a unique path-one that includes the voice of the choreographer and dancer in the journey to performance.
In doing so, the authors support the process of the entire creative team and cover all aspects of a production. They put those aspects in the context of real-world application, in sequence with other components, creating a toolbox for success for all involved. By the end of the book, readers will have discovered the many options available to them in the production setting and be able to choose the tool most needed at the time.
Producing Dance goes beyond the performance, covering evaluation, reflection, and opportunities for growth. And it offers guidance in two critical areas that are not addressed in other dance production books: creating dance performances in nontraditional spaces such as site-specific venues, dance and culture festivals, and audience-immersive experiences
Producing Dance makes that journey not only doable but also enjoyable. It provides readers the understanding and tools they need to realize their vision, explore and develop their voice, and further their growth and career development.

Teaching Dance as Art in Education is a comprehensive introductory textbook that helps dance education majors and dance specialists understand and incorporate the aesthetic foundations of educational dance in grades K-12. Unlike other models of teaching dance, this book delineates what a standards-oriented, aesthetically driven program should encompass for both the dance specialist and his or her K-12 students.
Teaching Dance as Art in Education fosters an understanding of dance as arts education and defines the dance specialist's roles and responsibilities, including how the national arts initiatives and student-centered inquiry affect the teaching of dance. It explains how to advance student growth in the areas most critical to teaching dance: the physical, mental, artistic, and social. Content is delineated through four cornerstones of dance as art in education:
• Dancing and performing
• Creating and composing
• Knowing history, culture, and context
• Analyzing and critiquing
It also presents a new instructional approach, the Eight-Step Plan, that facilities integration of all four dance education cornerstones into each unit to make the lessons more coherent. Further, the many features in the textbook help dance specialists become aware of not only their unique roles and responsibilities when teaching educational dance but also how to develop an arts-oriented, professional teaching portfolio.
