The Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) collection consists of four main species — shortleaf, longleaf, loblolly, and slash. Acknowledged for its strength and density, wood design standards for SYP are the highest of all softwood species commonly used in structural purposes. SYP has long been the desired species for pressure treatment because of its unique cellular structure that allows deep, constant color. Southern Pine offers a distinct grain pattern and an appealing golden color. Because of this natural beauty, exposed Southern Yellow Pine provides architectural appeal.

Wood modification involves a substance or other treatments to essentially modify the properties of wood and enhance its beauty. The existence of water in wood facilitates rot and is liable for shrinkage and growth, thermally-modified wood is less vulnerable to decay and is much more structurally stable.

Phase 1: Drying The temperature of the wood is rapidly raised to 100 degrees Celsius. After this process of heating, the temperature is increased steadily to 130 degrees Celsius, the wood is dried which causes the wood to become much less hydrophilic (water-loving).

Phase 2: Heat Treatment Temperature for this process is increased to 180 degrees Celsius or to 212 degrees Celsius using condensation. After the target level for temperature is reached, the temperature remains unceasing for 2 to 3 hours.

Phase 3: Cooling and Adapting In the final phase,temperature is reduced to 80-90 degrees Celsius before using a steam spray. According to the Thermowood Association, this process continues until the moisture content reaches 4 to 6%.

There are different treatment levels of Eco-Tempered Thermally Modified siding with different properties which allows our product to be specifically used for siding.

The higher treatment levels are indicated with the letter D (durability), which essentially describes the improved durability and treatment level according to the standard EN 350-1. The milder treatment levels are indicated with the letter T (treatment). At this milder treatment level, most products are especially suitable for interior applications.

Our Eco-Tempered table is referring to the woods natural durability to numerous environmental variables. Such as: rot decay, insect deterrent, fungi resistance, etc.

The modification treatment removes density of the material, thus giving a percentage of mass loss. The amount of mass loss helps determine the durability of the material after modification.

Clapboard, also called bevel siding, lap siding, and weatherboard, with local variation in the definition of these terms. This kind of timber siding is commonly used in the form of horizontal boards, often overlapping.

Wire-brushing is a method that eliminates the softer fibers of the wood and delivers a more distressed, beautiful, aged look. An exceptional textured feel of the grains is conveyed from the treatment. The process is simply having the wood boards sent through a machine that has fine wire brushes.

1/2 log look is a radius cut that provides a more rustic cabin look and feel.

This particular look adds a lot more character and depth to your home. The siding itself has a profile that allows for better water run-off.

The Kenzie Home Shiplap profile covers more square footage with components of the interior raw untreated shiplap. A specialized TG profile allows the panels to lock together with a designed channel to run a hidden fastener.

Our exterior version has the thermally modified application for: water, rot, insect, and fire resistance.

 Sustainability: Southern Yellow pine is a renewable resource. Since no chemicals are used in the modification process, the wood can be used in gardens and scraps turned into mulch. Less susceptible to ignition.

 Maintenance: Cedar must be regularly stained and sealed, at significant expense, to protect it from moisture penetration and possible rot, mold and warping

 Chemical-free: Our Southern Yellow Pine is completely processed chemical free. Most pressure-treated woods are produced with the use of toxic chemicals that breakdown the fasteners that hold the material in place.

The chemicals in the wood makes it harmful to touch, harmful to breathe the air that surrounds it and harmful to anything that comes in contact with it (skin, clothes, etc.)

 Non-insect repellent: Cedar not properly cared for will become susceptible to insects.

The increase in insects have been known to cause homeowners complications with numerous woodpecker holes throughout their cedar siding

Volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions measured by the ThermoWood researchers stated that VOC rapidly decreased ignition time by heat treatment. The research from VOC emissions concluded that TVOC (total amount of VOC) dropped 84% from original amount of untreated wood. The untreated sample was stated to be at 1486 TVOC and dropped to 235 from being heat treated (200-230 degrees Celsius).

fairly high insulating value, beautiful grain patterns, warm color, and soft tactility. However, despite these excellent qualities it also has one key restraining factor: it's natural susceptibility to absorb and hold moisture, resulting in swelling, warping, and ultimately, depreciation and decomposition.

We believe that thermally modified wood reduces that susceptibility to absorb and hold moisture that result in warping, rotting, and depreciation of the material we use. Eco-Tempered Thermally Modified siding is a chemical-free, well-maintained wood produced by exposing wood to high temperatures (up to 445°F) and steam under highly controlled conditions. This process, developed in Finland, converts the sugars in the wood into a form that minimizes consumption by insects or decay fungi.

This thermal modification process also stabilizes the wood, greatly reduces shrinkage, warping, and swelling. Eco-Tempered Thermally modified wood siding can be fastened using

different installation methods, however, we recommend to use your contractors installation guidelines.

Here are just a few tips of installation: When using the right installation, wood siding can last for decades in even the harshest weather conditions. Thermally modified wood siding is a material that can add an authentic quality to any renovation project and is easy to install. Siding is typically applied in overlapping horizontal boards ranging from 4 to 12 inches in width including an overlap of 1/2 to 2 inches.

There is a unique material that is used to prevent the infiltration of air and water to prevent rot and mold inside walls, and it is called Tyvek Homewrap.

When fastening, it is advised to use not just any nail or screw. Nails exposed to weather will always be vulnerable to corrosion, which is the product of a chemical reaction called oxidation-reduction. Galvanizing nails stems the corrosion process by protecting steel nails in a coating of zinc. However, eventually galvanized nails rust, but the process takes longer. Nail manufacturers recommend that you go with stainless steel fasteners when you're using thermally treated wood siding. Nails used for fastening should always be exterior-grade.
