

Activities - Unit 6 2025
For Unit 6 the following dates are important:
Friday 12 September: Online ballot opens Students emailed login details
Tuesday 16 September: Initial online ballot closes at 10.30am
Wednesday 17 September: Restricted online balloting closes at 10.30am
Unit 6 Dates: October 20, 24, 27, 29, 31, November 7, 10, 12, 17, 21, 24, 28.
Students who do not complete an initial online ballot (by 10.30am September 16, will have to complete a restricted online ballot. Th is will mean that students will have reduced choices or may need to complete a further restricted paper ballot if most of the Activities are full. Students who do not complete a ballot after the fi nal date will be placed into an Activity. Please choose carefully as you can be placed into any of your six selections.
To Students in Years 7 - 10
An outline of each Activity is given in the following pages. You should read the details carefully, be aware of any special requirements such as cost, equipment or materials and discuss your choice with your parents. If you need more information, you should contact the teacher in charge of the Activity, or the Head of Activities, Mr Azzopardi. When you ballot for an Activity, you must be prepared to accept the Activity of your choice. Please choose carefully as you can be placed into any of your six selections.
To Parents
Some Activities may incur a cost ($) where individual coaching or special equipment is required. Costs are shown within this pamphlet and will be charged to the term’s account. If your child undertakes an Activity where there is a cost, you will be notified via Operoo.
Reminders
Over the school year you are encouraged to select Activities from a minimum of three of the following categories: Academic Enrichment/Challenge; Leadership; Visual and Performing Arts; Sport and Physical Development; Health, Lifestyle and Practical Skills; Technology and ICT; Community Partnerships.
Practical Activities and Sunsmart
In sporting Activities you will need your sports uniform and appropriate footwear. Students involved in outdoor activities need to supply their own hat and sunscreen. Sunscreen is also available in each Homestead, the Sustainability Centre, with staff at outdoor venues and at the Gym in case you forget. Students must wear clothing that covers their shoulders, e.g. Woodleigh Polo Sports Shirt.
Non-Participants
Students attending Non-Participants complete written tasks (no ICT), quiet reading, or undertake school service around the school. If you miss your bus you must go to the non-participants room. If you forget your gear or have a minor injury, please discuss staying in your Activity and assisting with the teacher in charge. If you are ill or injured and unable to take part in your Activity, you must bring a note of explanation for the teacher in charge of the Activity. If you become ill during the day you must report to the Nurse for assessment prior to attending Non-Participants.
Activities Leaving School Grounds
Some Activities may run during lunchtime, particularly those where students are leaving the school. Students need to consider this when balloting and be aware that they may need to take and eat their lunch on the journey from school or back to school.
Additional Health and Safety Information
The health and safety of all in our community remains foremost in our planning. We are establishing ongoing protocols to ensure the physical safety of our community. For this reason some of our Activities will be adapted to provide reasonable precautions and a safe learning environment over the Unit. All Activities will abide by Government regulations.
Important Notes for Adventure-Based Activities (as indicated by a )
Some Activities are regarded as adventured-based. Being involved may have some higher elements of risk and the possibility of injury, both of a minor and serious nature. It is important that both students and parents are aware of this fact. It is also important that you have an understanding of the nature of the Activity, if you have any questions in regard to a specific Activity please contact the teacher in charge of the Activity or the Head of Activities, Mr Azzopardi. If a student undertakes an adventure-based Activity, they may need approval from a parent via Operoo.
Academic Enrichment

Mr Scott Students wishing to either start or continue with their training can ballot for this unit. Please contact Mr Scott (mscott@woodleigh.vic.edu.au) before balloting for more information. Basic Aeronautical theory taught during this unit will depend on group needs. Practical flying lessons will be tailored to the individual. Advanced STEAM Club (Yrs 7-10)

Join this Activity unit focused on laser cutting, 3D printing, emerging technologies, robot building, coding, and programming. In this unique program, you'll have the opportunity to explore the world of innovation and gain hands-on experience with various technologies. Discover the art of laser cutting and 3D printing, where you can turn your creative ideas into tangible objects. Dive into the realm of emerging technologies, robotics, coding, and programming. Create interactive experiences with LEGO Mindstorms, BBC Microbit, Makey Makey controllers and more! All experience levels are welcome, but a desire to learn and try new things is absolutely necessary!
Regenerative Futures Project (Yr 10 Only) Ms Twist & Mr Barnett Th is Activity is designed to help you complete, refine, or take action on the work you've already started in your Regenerative Futures Project classes. Whether you're ready to implement your project or need time to prepare for next steps, this is your chance to make a real impact in your community. You may not need all sessions for your project work—so the remaining time can be used to build your study skills, catch up on coursework, or prepare for upcoming exams. It’s a flexible space that supports both your project goals and your academic success. Let’s finish what you started—and make a difference!

From Pen to Performance (Yrs 7-10) Ms James Welcome to From Pen to Performance, a hands-on drama Activity where you get to be both the writer and the star! You'll transform a blank page into a living story by writing your own script, creating compelling dialogue, and developing unique characters. Then, you'll work together with your peers to bring your words to life on the stage. It's a chance to build confidence, spark your creativity, and discover the magic of collaborative storytelling. As well as take the roles of actor, director, and writer!
Knitting Teddy Bears (Yrs 7-10)
Ms Ley
Join this community-based Activity - knitting Trauma Teddies for local hospitals. These comforting companions are given to children in emergency situations to help ease their anxiety and fear. If you're an experienced knitter and want to make a meaningful difference through your skills, this is the perfect opportunity to lend a helping hand. Yarn and patterns will be provided. All teddies will be donated to hospitals and emergency services.
Mandalas, Mindfulness & Clay Works (Yrs 7-10)
Ms Norman Want some chill time away from your computer? Want to benefit from calmness and creativity? Explore the therapeutic art of using patterns and repetition to create beautiful designs that ease the mind and inspire focus. In this Activity, you will learn how to create your own meditative artworks on paper and with clay. This session is ideal for anyone seeking relaxation through a creative outlet, where you can cultivate mindfulness in a relaxed environment.

Design and make a mosaic mirror; a decorative addition to your space using an ancient technique. Th is Activity will teach you how to design, glue and grout a framed mirror, ensuring that you love your creation and take it home to feature in your bedroom or outside your home. Once you understand the technique, you will be inspired to make your own tiles, cover tabletops, bedside tables, plinths, or an artwork. Bring along discarded ceramics, plates, teacups, marbles, or glass objects to entwine throughout your design. All materials will be provided. It is advised that you wear clothing that reflects that you are ready to use tile cutters, hammers, grout, and tile glue.
Pebble Art (Yrs 7-10)

Join the growing world of the Pebble Artist. In this Activity, you will be given the opportunity to embrace your inner creative mind by decorating and painting pebbles. You can design individually decorated pieces or a whole series or artworks linked by a theme. The world is your oyster (or pebble!!!). As you investigate different styles appropriate to this art form you will also develop your organisation and planning skills. You will be given a series of steps to help plan your final creative work. You will be encouraged to use your imagination to make colourful and quirky keepsakes, decorations for your garden or a present for a family member or friend.
Perberkoong Ensemble (Yrs 7-10)

Do you love Christmas? Embrace it early this year and be part of the Carols Ensemble. Th is Activity is for experienced instrumental students who would like to play in the accompanying ensemble for the Nativity during Perberkoong at the end of the school year. You will play all the old favourites, plus something new. We will also hopefully spread the Christmas Cheer even further and take this ensemble to at least one other performance, such as a shopping centre, nearby primary school or retirement village. For more information, please come and talk to one of the friendly staff down in Jago.
Sustainable Surf (Yrs 7-10) Mr Colcott
Surfing and sustainability don’t always go hand in hand. In this Activity, students take a closer look at the waste created by the surf industry and fi nd practical ways to turn it into something new.
Working with leftover resin, billboard vinyl, and fiberglass cloth from local surfboard factories, students will make:
•A fin key/keyring from recycled resin
• A “wetsuit bucket” from old billboard material
• A surfboard fin from discarded textiles and fiberglass
The aim is simple: keep plastics out of landfi ll and show how waste can be turned into useful surf hardware with almost no extra energy.
The Big Gundam Model Project (Yrs 7-10)

Do you like model making? Curious about what hobby has taken Japan by storm? Gundam’s are highly detailed plastic model kits of robots, made popular in Japan. Team up with a friend or fellow hobby enthusiast to challenge yourselves in constructing a highly detailed Gundam model. Follow the process of refining, painting and applying decals to your kits. Patience required when building these models!
Badminton and Pickleball (Yrs 7-10)

During this Activity you will get the chance to participate in the racquet sports of Badminton and Pickleball. Sessions will be undertaken at Somerville Recreation Centre with team and individual competitions and challenges being the order of the day. Basketball Academy - Skill Development (Yrs 7-9) Mr Paxino If you already play basketball and want to take your skills to the next level, sign up for this unit as we will be participating in sessions run by highly skilled coaches from Hoop Culture. The training sessions with Hoop Culture will take you through a range of different skills and tactics to take your game to the next level. Some sessions will be held at Somerville Rec Centre also. Ms Kesterson & Mr Angelico Get ready to tee off and elevate your golf game to new heights! Join us for enriching sessions designed to enhance your skills and deepen your passion for golf. From novices to intermediate players, everyone is welcome to join us at Centenary Park Golf Club in Frankston where you'll work closely with a seasoned Professional. Golf clubs and balls are on the house, but don't forget to bring your own hat, glove, and suitable footwear. It's time to swing into action and make your mark on the green! Priority will be given to those who haven’t participated in this Activity before. Indoor & Outdoor Sports (Yrs 7-10)

Th is Activity is for students who want to improve their indoor sports skills, game strategy and fitness. You will be required to set specific performance goals for yourself and work to achieve them throughout the unit. Sessions will be a combination of specific training and conditioning for soccer, basketball and other sports. Come along to supplement your other sports training and to meet other, like-minded students. Active wear and runners are required. Sessions will take place on the Woodleigh multi courts and soccer oval. Sunsmart applies for outdoor sessions.

Whether you're a seasoned climber or trying it out for the first time, our indoor climbing Activity offers a thrilling opportunity to conquer vertical challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Test your strength, agility, and problem-solving skills as you navigate a variety of routes suited to all experience levels. Our certified instructors will provide guidance and ensure your safety throughout the session. Priority will be given to those who haven’t participated in this Activity before. $ PADI Open Water Scuba Diver Course (Pre-book)

During the unit, you will have opportunity to complete the fi rst component of this course, covering most of the theory through the PADI online portal with the support of Woodleigh staff who are qualified SCUBA divers. Topics include: the structure and function of SCUBA equipment, safety requirements of SCUBA diving, understanding the necessary skills of SCUBA diving, and using dive tables to calculate safe dive times and depths. There may be some sessions where you will have the opportunity to practice your water skills at either Core24 in Somerville or PARC in Frankston. The second practical component will be overseen by Bayplay where students independently join one of Bayplay’s diving courses held at their premises over the Summer break. $ Snorkelling (Yrs 7-9) Mr Benton Escape to a different world and experience a connection with nature. Th is Activity is full of tips and advice to help make snorkelling easier and more fun. Initial basic skills will be undertaken in the swimming pool at Core24 Health and Fitness in Somerville or PARC Frankston. You will learn about the equipment, surface techniques, the skills needed to snorkel underwater as well as the main safety aspects. Open water snorkel sessions will be conducted at a variety of locations around Mornington which may include Mornington Pier, Schnapper Point and Fishermans Beach depending on weather conditions. Students will be provided with a wetsuit and snorkel gear and will be required to change at the outdoor location. Mr Adams Embark on a journey into the world of espresso mastery with our Barista Activity! You will unlock the secrets of crafting the perfect coffee, mastering every step from bean to cup. Dive deep into the art of espresso extraction, steam and froth milk to velvety perfection, and even learn the intricate techniques of coffee art. With each session, you'll hone your skills, gaining the confidence and expertise to create exceptional coffee creations that will delight friends and family.
Soul Circus (Yrs 7-8)

Th is Activity offers an amazing opportunity to attend Soul Circus, Circus School in Mornington, where you will be instructed by experienced coaches in a variety of mediums which may include Tight Rope, Silks, Walking Globe Trapeze, floor, Mini tramp and possibly Table Sliding. You will move from one apparatus to the next, each working on different muscle groups providing a full body workout, circus style! Sessions will take place at Soul Circus in Mornington. In this hands-on Activity, you’ll design and develop your very own app or program using Python — one of the most popular and beginner-friendly programming languages out there. Are you interested in learning the skills to be able to operate the various technical elements found within the entertainment industry? Join this Activity and you will discover what all the faders and dials on an audio console do, how the lights at a stadium concert work, or how to design and project image and animation for stadium screens. We will be running from the basic operations level and developing skills from there. Come and be creative with us and immerse yourself in the world of backstage theatre production.
Woodleigh Esports - Girl Gamers (Yrs 7-10)

Are you a non-male Woodleigh gamer? Are you keen to explore this interest with other passionate, supportive gamers? Th is Activity will be focused on building Woodleigh’s non-male video game community, introducing students to the world of esports and helping them prepare for possible participation in future competitions. In this unit, teammates will practice the skills essential for success in Mario Kart, Smash Bros., and/or Rocket League. They will also review gameplay footage to improve techniques, hone expert techniques, and participate in activities to help maintain positive mindsets, respectful competitiveness, and healthy approaches to gaming. Brian Henderson Reserve (Yrs 7-10)

Are you interested in wildlife and the environment? Do you like being in the great outdoors? In this Activity you will support the day-to-day management of the Brian Henderson Reserve. You might feed the animals, contribute to enclosure set-up and maintenance, remove weeds, assist with pest animal control, plant new plants, collect bush foods, prepare animal meals, perform biodiversity surveys and carry out fence and track maintenance. Some tasks may also be performed outside the boundaries of the Reserve. If the weather is too hot/cold, we meet in the Science building and can tend to the animals kept there. Closed-toe sturdy shoes and long pants are required. Water bottle recommended. Sunsmart applies.
Brick by Brick – Build and Give Challenge (Yrs 7-10) Mr Fraser
Are you a future LEGO Master, problem solver, detective or creative? Do you love designing, sorting and organising? If so, then come and join Brick by Brick – the Build and Give Challenge. We have had some Lego donations, and the goal is to rebuild sets to share with several of the schools and organisations that we support. You’ll team up to design your own original LEGO model with the parts available, build it step-by-step, and create an instruction booklet like the pros do. Once your kit is complete, it’ll be packaged and donated to young people in need.
The Woodleigh Farm (Yrs 7-10)

The Woodleigh Farm is an excellent opportunity for students to immerse themselves in practical tasks and learn a variety of new skills. Students will complete a variety of hands-on seasonal tasks including growing plants, identify edible and non-edible plants, botanical drawing, farm weeding and maintenance, revegetating bush gardens, and simple garden landscaping projects. They will also learn about the digestive systems of sheep, goats and horses and help feed the animals during the afternoon sessions. Students will gain an understanding of where their food comes from and begin to understand sustainable agriculture and food production. Sunsmart applies.
