Rugby World Cup Finalist It was a privilege to welcome back Grovian, Ellie Kildunne, shortly after return from New Zealand where scored the first try for England in Rugby World Cup Final.

Ellie spoke to Years 7 and 8 about her career to date, how it felt to score that first try and her sporting heroes before coaching them in their PE lesson.

Ellie also offered personal advice to students on our Grove Athletic Education Programme about creating a good sport/ school balance.

HMC Scholars Projects Day In November our HMC Scholars attended the inaugural HMC Projects Day hosted by Barnard Castle School. They were given background information to the HMC programme as well as a personal development session, and the opportunity to meet scholars from their own country based at other HMC schools. They were great ambassadors for the school and the highlight of their day was a visit to The Bowes Museum, where they saw paintings

by Canaletto, Goya and others. We look forward to hosting next year’s regional event.

Anti-Bullying Week

Bradford Manufacturing Week

There were lots of activities organised throughout school for Anti-Bullying Week.

Our themed assemblies concentrated on this year’s message, Reach Out, and were complemented by Odd Socks Day, bunting with kind messages written on and Friday lunchtime buns. Girls’ Boarding embraced the school activity of ‘I’ve heard a whisper you’ve been kind’ by sharing thank you notes for acts of kindness shown to them.

In October, senior students visited a number of local companies as part of Bradford Manufacturing Week.

Our Design and Technology students visited TF Automation, gaining hands on experience of industrial robotics and an insight into the world of manufacturing.

WGS Tour of Park Runs We are encouraging our extended Grovian community to participate in five local Park runs this academic year, benefitting from fresh air and communal exercise. The first of these took place at Roundhay Park in November and we were delighted that despite the rain, more than 40 students, staff and supporting parents joined us for the 5km course, including a team from Miller House.

At Airedale International Air Conditioning sixth formers observed activity on the highly computerised shop floor and listened to talks from the Managing Director and Global Head of Marketing.

Students who visited Christeyns UK toured the production plant before splitting into teams to design, produce and market their own washing up liquid, which they then had to present to the Finance Director.

Christmas Boarding Weekend

Boarders have been busy making the Houses look very festive with Christmas trees and decorations and a lovely Christmas craft afternoon (including hot chocolate) with boarding tutor, Ms Evers. Miller Girls also helped Reverend Drost to decorate Chapel ahead of the Carol Services and Christmas Eve Service.

What a fabulous final weekend of term for our boarders! An atmospheric Christmas meal in the beautiful candlelit dining room, followed by all the fun at the fair.

Life in Leeds...

Blue Stockings—Senior Drama

Our boarders have had some great fun in Leeds in recent weeks. A fantastic afternoon of ice skating and Christmas shopping at the end of November was followed by a lot of jumping and laughter at Jump Inc Trampoline Park in December. A well earned tea of pizza and slush puppies followed.

Our boarders had a fabulous time watching our Senior School Play, Blue Stockings. The play is based on the true story of four women and their fight for the right to education. The boarders went to support Rainie, Laura, Yuliia and Ms Evers who were all heavily involved in the production.

Headmaster, Mr Lockwood said, “The Senior School production of Blue Stockings was probably the best serious drama production I have seen in 25 years of teaching. What a tremendous achievement by everyone involved .”
