Sixth Form News We aim to ensure that the transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form is as smooth and stress free as possible. Our Year 11s have already been into Sixth Form for an experience day so they know what to expect next year and our Year 12 had a fantastic activity day, allowing students joining us for Sixth Form to get to know their peers. Sixth Form students have also been out visiting a number of different local companies as part of Bradford Manufacturing Week.

Welcome back We are delighted to welcome back our current boarders as well as many new ones for this academic year. It is wonderful to see our boarding houses flourishing.

We have a number of new appointments within boarding; Mr Dan King has been appointed Head of Boarding with Mr Matthew Dobson, Head of Boys Boarding.

We also welcome new staff to Woodhouse Grove with Mrs Nicola Bradburne, Head of Girls’ Boarding and Miss Poppy Winks who is working closely with Nicola in Miller House.

Getting to know you

Alton Towers

A very busy start to the term getting to know, not only the other pupils in their boarding House, but also the full boarding community. There were some team building and ice breaker games on our first weekend including Human Bingo and portrait drawing followed by a trip to Leeds City Centre for a spot of shopping and sightseeing on the second weekend of term.

At the end of September, the whole of boarding had an early start for their day trip to Alton Towers Theme Park in Staffordshire.

It was a fantastic day and it seems that we have a few thrill seekers in our boarding team, including the staff!

Academic Trips

Pumpkin Picking and Halloween

Boarders and day pupils spent time out of school collecting official data for A-level field projects and immersing themselves fully into their subjects.

We decided to celebrate Halloween a little early so that all of our Boarders could get involved before the half term break. What an amazing amount of activity - our boarders and our pumpkins all looked fantastic and the pumpkin pie was delicious!

The A-level Biology trip included river studies at Cranedale and estuary sampling at Filey Beck.

A fun packed English A-level and Media trip to London, which included; students making their own film at Pinewood Studios; a roaring 20s evening at the immersive Gatsby experience; going backstage at the National theatre; a look behind the scenes at the Harry Potter studios and learning about set design for The Crucible.

Co-curricular Involvement

Boarding Snapshot

Our boarders have thrown themselves into day-to-day life at WGS. This has included showing families around on tours for Open Day, helping staff members to lead Co-Curricular activities and getting involved with sporting competitions.

Some of our boarders played in the Friday Nights Lights game v Sedbergh in September at Wharfedale Rugby Club and many of the boarders went along to show their support.

The rewards wheel of fortune is back.

Brodwell boys spun the wheel for treats such as an extra ten minutes before lights out or free tuck for a week; or they found they had extra kitchen duties if they lost!
