Why Woodhouse Grove?
Woodhouse Grove School is an independent, co educa onal day and boarding school ini ally founded by the Methodist Conference in 1812 for the educa on of the sons of Methodist ministers. Situated between Leeds and Bradford on a 70‐acre campus with extensive grounds yet conveniently located 1 hour from Manchester Airport, Woodhouse Grove provides a first‐class all‐round educa on for boys and girls. Our Summer School..
Will give children the opportunity to experience life as a Grovian; to live in our community for 2 weeks and be exposed to Bri sh culture along with gaining a deeper understanding of the English Language.
Our unique loca on and fantas c facili es give us the opportunity to host an extensive and diverse ac vi es and excursion programme, on site and in the local area.
Our Programmes
12 hours of academic teaching me each week (in the morning), followed by an extensive ac vi es and excursion programme in the evenings including 4 full excursion days.
Supported by our pastoral team, pupils will se le in quickly and immerse themselves in all aspects that the programme has to offer.
Aged 11‐14 years
English Language & Ac vi es Programme
A structured, 2 week exam prepara on course for those wishing to sit a formal examina on at an official test centre upon comple on of the two week course.
An official exam cer ficate will be issued by the Examina on Board recognising their current English level. Trinity Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) are approved for applica ons to UKVI for visas, UK visa renewal, Bri sh Ci zenship, Se lement and Leave to Remain.

Interna onal Business and Leadership + Ac vi es Programme
Pupils will focus on developing self awareness, self confidence, ini a ve and resilience whilst improving their cri cal thinking, communica on and teamwork skills.
The interna onal rela ons element of this course examines how our global society influences the way in which people, teams, organisa ons and countries interact with one another. Pupils will gain a be er understanding of how to appreciate and learn from diversity to facilitate success in our mul cultural world.
Both programmes our fully inclusive of all meals and accommoda on and include our Grove Ac vi es & Excursion programme—detailed later in brochure.
Activities Programme
Our Ac vi es programme has an emphasis on keeping pupils busy, fit and healthy along with experiencing our local culture; yet incorpora ng me to relax, make friends and simply enjoy the school site.
Pupils can enjoy a range of different sports on‐site led by our team of staff. On site ac vi es may include:
Climbing, Football, Rugby, Tennis, Badminton, Cricket, Netball, Swimming, Basketball, Fencing, Fitness Suite, Table Tennis and Volleyball.
Our Ac vi es Programme will run on all a ernoons and evenings allowing our pupils to ‘Explore Yorkshire’ as well as accessing our fantasc c on‐site facili es. There will be balance of on site ac vi es and trips out of school; excursions.
Excursions
Based in Yorkshire with the dales on our doorstep, but within 10 minutes to Leeds City Centre on the train, our local excursions give pupils the opportunity to explore, enjoy and appreciate our truly unique loca on. From Abbeys and canals to shopping in Leeds and walks in the dales, pupils are sure to enjoy the wealth of experiences available in this incredible part of the Bri sh Isles.
4 full day excursions over the 2 week programme offer the opportunity to fully experience Bri sh Culture.
Our a ernoon excursions will take in heritage sites, shopping centres, Abbeys, na onal parks and or course the home of the Brontë sister’s, Haworth.
Our full day excursions will head further afield for a full day of adventure! Including a day at the seaside where pupils will experience our local delicacy, fish and chips (and maybe an ice cream!).
Full Day Excursions ‐ Wednesday’s and Sunday. Saturday will be an on‐site ac vi es day.

Food
All food is included in our Summer Camp fee; breakfast, lunch (this might be made to takeaway for excursions) and dinner. There is also fruit and cereal available in the Boarding House.
Meal mes at Woodhouse Grove have always been a favourite part of our pupils’ day; our pupils certainly enjoy the variety of meals on offer. Our beau ful dining hall combines a tradi onal se ng with a modern, efficient serving area and kitchens that meet the high quality food standards expected. We operate a nut free site in school for all catered meals. Allergen sheets are available throughout food service should any pupils need to check a par cular dish. We cater for a variety of dietary needs; there are always vegetarian op ons at every meal and gluten free/dairy free diets can be easily catered for with advance no ce. The school is use to catering for our Interna onal Boarders and the menus are always full of interna onal food choices as well typical English dishes; the food is varied and there are always a couple of choices available at each meal to cater for different preferences.
An Inspiring Place To Live & Learn
A caring and secure environment is maintained by our pastoral staff and all campers will have regular catch ups with staff in the House, to make sure they are se ling in and do not have any concerns.
Staff understand that it’s perfectly natural that campers may need different lengths of me to se le in and they tailor their support to the needs of every individual child.
Our staff aim to make children feel happy and content so they can gain as much as possible from the experience.
Each of our Boarding Houses has WiFi and modern homely comforts and has a unique character. They have modern ameni es, kitchens for snacks and drinks, well appointed bedrooms and relaxing common rooms. Bedrooms are usually twin rooms and a bathroom is shared by about 3 rooms. Alloca on of rooms will be carefully considered to provide support and friendship.
Our school is a place where maturity, confidence, versa lity and self mo va on are encouraged and developed, where pupils feel s mulated and invigorated by a wealth of challenges and experiences… a place where they feel truly at home.
We hope that our campers will experience this in the 2 weeks they are at The Grove.
Our Summer Camp Aims
ENGAGE
All our campers will engage in our learning and activities programme. We will encourage them to be intrepid and to ignite their learning by taking every opportunity available.
CHALLENGE
Our team will challenge our campers to try new things, step out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of making mistakes. Also to have fun at the same time!

Our highly skilled team will inspire our campers in the classroom on our activities programme and through excursions, opening up possibilities in their minds.
LEAD
Our campers will get the opportunity to learn about leadership and be inspired by our camp leaders. To be independent and make their own decisions.
Useful Information
Transport
Campers can arrive directly to the school on Sunday from 10.30am or take advantage of our inclusive transport support. We ask all campers to leave the site by 12 noon on 22nd July, lunch will not be provided on this day but packed lunches will be available if required.
Arriving by Plane: We will operate a free collec on service from Manchester Airport & Leeds‐Bradford Interna onal Airport on Sat 8th July and a return service on Sat 22nd July. For arrivals into Manchester Airport there will be 2 scheduled pick up mes and departure mes that will be shared when camps have been booked. Transfers at different mes can be accommodated but will incur addi onal costs. For arrivals into Leeds Bradford Airport this will be a more frequent collec on service due to locality.
Arriving by Train:
We are located a 5 minute walk away from Apperley Bridge train sta on which connects from Leeds in 9 minutes. Campers can simply walk across to the school from the exit of the sta on and be met by our staff team. This is the best transport method for arrivals from London.
Laundry
A laundry service will be available for campers. Campers must bring their own towels but bedding is provided.
Money
All meals (3 a day) and ac vi es are included, but pupils may wish to bring money for personal items or to purchase souvenir of their me on the camp. Snacks and fruit will also be available.
