AS Photography (may also be available as A‐level) Board: Eduqas What will I study? The AS photography course is specifically aimed at students who wish to pursue an ar s c subject but lack any technical art skills. Students will be taught both wet and digital image making. They will be expected to work in a crea ve way, responding to prac cal demonstra ons and one to one tutorials. They will explore composi on, texture, pa ern, form and people over the first unit which culminates in them developing their own chosen theme. No previous experience is necessary, but access to a digital camera is essen al.

For excep onal students there is a chance to take the full A‐level over two years but many students choose to take the AS op on over the same two year period. A standard charge of £20 per term covers all usual materials expenses. However we do make some gallery visits which may incur a charge. This is usually a maximum of £20 and is charged at cost price.

How will I be assessed? AS Level ‐ Candidates will produce two units of work: A coursework por olio (60% of the AS mark) and an externally set exam project (40% of the AS mark). Each unit is marked using four assess‐ ment criteria: Research, Development, Cri cal thinking and Final Artefact.

EPQ (Extended Project Qualifica on) Board:AQA How does it work? The course begins midway through Year 12. Students are given lessons on a variety of skills that will be required to complete the qualifica on – e.g. presenta on, researching, referencing Students complete an independent research project on a ques on of their own choice. The project involves the comple on of a 5000 word essay or 1000 words plus an artefact.

Each student is appointed a staff supervisor with whom they meet at regular intervals to review progress.

How will I be assessed? Assessment is through the produc on of a research log, a presenta on, the research project itself and a review. The qualifica on gives UCAS points up to A* equivalent to half an A‐level. There are two assessment opportuni es, with the deadlines in October or March of Year 13 35
